Pinpoints of Light: Escaping the Abyss of Abuse

Rate this book
Mental illness. Addiction. Pain. Fear. Control. Abuse.

What images do those words stir in your mind's eye? Domestic Violence/abuse.

What does abuse feel like?
It feels heavy, tangible, scary, and hopeless. The psychotic inky darkness of abuse from my former spouse was complex. He wove in and out of the reality of his mind. His darkness surrounded us, chocked, and suffocated us till no hope was left, but for a pinpoint of light.

How can you recognize abuse?
I describe domestic violence/abuse in two the hunter and the caged animal. Both ultimately have control as the foundation.

What if you could escape your abyss of abuse? Do you know how to make your exit plan?
After nine years of surviving in the abyss, I finally hit the bottom. I knew I needed to escape. I had tried before and failed; it nearly cost me my life. Yet, a pinpoint of light was given again. I discovered the key to my escape. Through my true-life story, you see the key, and the plan I developed towards freedom.

Why do I share this story? I write it for the victims, survivors, and supporters to give them hope! There is more than hope; there is light! With that light, you can escape. There is a way out of abuse. Make a plan; you can. It is up to you to develop that plan. You know your situation best. You are in control of it. You!

Why? Because you are worth saving. You are worth fighting for. You are light! I believe in you. Follow your pinpoint of light and find your freedom today!

For everyone who asks, “Why didn’t she just leave?” Domestic Violence is a topic many people shy away from. Not April. April T. Giauque tells us the truth about how quickly one’s life can unravel through the actions of another. What can be worse than having the person that you promised to love for the rest of your life, and who promised to love you, become the greatest threat to you? When he also becomes the greatest threat to the lives of your children. This is what happened to April. This is what happens to so many other women every single day. April not only lived through this; April saved the lives of her children. April saved her own life. Sharing her devastating experience through this book, April hopes to save the lives of other women in similar positions who think there is no way out. Let’s help her. Buy this book. Share her message. Become a point of light. ~Karen Creamer, RN, author of Honor Your Health.

Just listened to the audible version of this book. As a clinical psychologist, I can tell you that this is an important book for so many people who think they are trapped in domestic abuse. This true story is riveting, captures your emotions, and provides you with hope. April T. Giauque gives voice to the nightmare she lived that is all too real for so many other women. This is a book I will recommend to clients. Very well written, and I love that the author narrates the audio version. Extremely well done! Bravo, April!

I couldn't put it down, and I rarely say that about nonfictions! It's told in story form and it starts out as a sweet love story. Sadly it doesn't stay that way and way too many people can relate to that. This book let me get into the mind of someone in an abusive relationship and hopefully when I know someone in that situation I'll be able to understand them a little bit better and offer them support and a listening ear.
And reading about her husband's mental illness was way interesting!!

The journey of escaping in this book was gripping. It reached far beyond a woman's quest to escape abuse. Within each ripple were the unique needs of her children, which she navigated so tenderly, lovingly, and patiently. Through all her trials, her faith remained strong, which was a beautiful reminder of God's unfailing love, and our inherent ability to strive for the same. As revealed in this book, we do not know what God's plans are nor the path we will take, however, April lived her life out with faithful obedience. This was an excellent book of courage, faith, and love. Quite the story and filled with hope.
