A book that reveals the brighter side of human nature in a surprising way. Good Man, Dalton is a sweet confection you’ll savor as Midwesterner Greta Hansen arrives in New York City for a job that doesn’t exist—and discovers something better than money or fame.
This book was very heart-warming, cute and it revealed the nicer side of human nature. The storyline was fresh and I really enjoyed the two different character perspectives, both characters are very likeable and the book was very fun to read! I really enjoyed it and would like to read more books by this author. “When you’re young, you have time but not enough money and when you’re older, you have money but not enough time.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 and half stars).
I was fortunate to be able to read an advanced copy of this book. From the opening pages I was drawn into Greta's life as she embarks on a new experience. Dalton is equally as fascinating and likable. This is a great love story, but it's so much more than that. As we get into Cece's world, the book shows some important things to make us think about social media, the internet, and the face we show to everyone else out there. The book also sheds a light on homelessness, especially that of Vets. This was a fast read, but savor the writing and let it sweep you away. Excellent reading.
I absolutely adored this book! Ms. McQuestion took me behind the scenes into the life of the ultra rich with the characters of Cece and Greta. She also took me out on the streets of the city with Dalton to "experience" what homelessness is like and how someone who lives on the streets struggles with the conditions and circumstances they're in. Public impressions of people aren't always what their private lives are like and in the case of Cece it wasn't anything the same. Ms. McQuestion wrote an amazing story interacting the two scenarios, homelessness and high society, together with such likeable and delightful characters. I loved Dalton immediately and his heart for helping others. Cece and Greta had an instant connection with each other like they had been best friends since childhood. How the three end up meeting and the adventures that ensue are ones that bring each character to realize what's important to them and what they really want for their futures and that being who they are is enough. I really like this passage when Greta realizes this. "Ever since she was a little girl, she'd thought her cousin had the perfect life, but she'd found that appearances could be deceiving, and now she wouldn't trade places with Cece for anything." This book is a delight. It has a bit of suspense, some challenges, and heartwarming, sweet romance. For me what I felt most in the book was the compassion for others and wanting the best for them. I loved the setting of this story. I felt like I was in NYC and taking in the experience of city life. The good and the bad. From the very bottom of the social realm to the very highest. I wanted to be with the characters and be a part of their stories. I was emotionally engaged and felt like I was part of the story. This book was so much fun to read! I loved it from the very first page all the way to the last one. I want to thank Ms. McQuestion, Netgalley, and Lake Union for the awesome opportunity to read this book. It's a five star read for me. It made me happy!
Greta Hansen needs an internship to set her apart. Lucky for her, she has a distant connection with the fabulous Vanderhaven Corporation all the way in New York city. She arrives to take on her internship and realizes she has really been brought in to help manage her cousin Cece's image. Can she keep Cece from scandal?
Dalton Bishop is on a mission. Conduct a social experiment to learn what homeless people need. But when he sees Greta, he feels an instant connection. And when he saves Cece from scandal and she invites him to be her date for the Forgotten Man Ball, he gets to see if Greta feels the connection too.
What is life like inside the fishbowl of social media? Why is image so important? Greta finds all this out firsthand, and helps her cousin Cece find her voice and take charge of her own image. A charming tale of destiny and love at first sight. Karen McQuestion writes witty and fun books with heart.
Good Man, Dalton is a heartwarming story that will entertain readers with its charming characters and unique storyline. Dalton comes from a wealthy family, but decides to experience what life is like for the homeless living in New York City. Greta, who is from Wisconsin, eagerly accepts an invitation to intern for her wealthy cousins in New York City. Their lives converge in unexpected ways as Greta accompanies her famous cousin Cece, who is a social media sensation. Entertaining, filled with tender moments, and a peek into the lives of the rich and famous, Good Man, Dalton is a great read!
I loved everything about this book. The characters were wonderfully developed. The scenery made you feel you were actually there. The ups and downs. I loved that this author told how people can end up homeless. It’s not that people want to be there. It’s they almost always have no choice and there are way to many of our veterans out there struggling with things we can’t imagine. Two cousins who had never met became fast best friends. Greta from a farm town and Cece from NY. Greta had a loving caring homelife with a mother who adored her. Cece was from a rich family but very lacking in the loving caring department. Both had envied the other’s lives for years via Christmas cards each family received. Cece was treated like she had no mind of her own. She had a beautiful rich life but was very lonely. Even her best friends didn’t really care what she wanted. It was a job and they had to make sure things were done a certain way. Cece’s parents were not around much at all. Her little sister, Brenna, and the Nanny, were basically her family. She longed to be let in and allowed to live a real life. Until Greta arrived it was impossible. Greta was shy and didn’t have much confidence in herself until she got the internship at her cousin Cece’s. She had a wonderful loving homelife but not a lot of experience in big city life at all. She had always wanted to meet her cousin and with a job awaiting her she was able to meet and become fast best friends with her. Together they go on an adventure that changes both their lives. They meet Dalton, the “homeless” man that they invite to a formal event. Dalton and Greta had made eye contact earlier and he felt a connection to her. The three of them have a wonderful night with a few hiccups along the way, but it was a night to change so many lives. Cece’s to be able to make decisions on her own. Greta to fall in love and also to be a real friend to Cece, not just a paid employee. Dalton to help so many who were alone with no help and no place to live. This book touches on a subject that is so sadly a part of this country. To many people are without a home, food, medical help or caring friends. There is only so much a shelter can do. But with the right kind of help I believe there could be such a big difference made. With the type of medical and emotional care they can get back confidence they need to move forward. This was such a touching story. I could feel the sadness in the characters. I could feel the happiness and love also. You feel like you are there with them during their outing. The biggest adventure of both Cece and Greta’s lives. You want to be there. To feel the freedom they feel.
This was a very good book. It will touch your heart in ways you may not expect.
I love this author’s work and will be reading more of it. Another bit 5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley, Lake Union and Karen McQuestion for the honor of having an ARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. It was wonderful.
This was one of those books I found myself reading whenever I found the chance. This was also one of those books I kept thinking about when when I was finished. But it is a Karen Mcquestion book- would it be anything different? I think Karen could write on the side of a cereal box, and I would read it!
What I really enjoy about Karen's books is that each one is unique. I am not getting the same cookie cutter story every time I pick up one of her books, and I love it. I also know each story is going to have a well written story line and interesting characters. This story is no different. It starts out on two different paths with well to do Dalton trying to prove himself to his dad and finding his way by pretending to be homeless for two weeks, and home town girl Greta finishing college and getting an internship with her famous cousin CeCe Vanderhaven. I had my preconceived notions of how it was going to go, but I was pleasantly surprised. Each character had their own depth- even the side characters. I adored CeCe's younger sister Brenna. You wait for all the characters to meet up because you know it is going to happen, and it does not disappoint. The novel really shows the growth of the characters, especially Greta. I would love to read another book with all of them in it to see where they all turn out later in life!
I thank Netgalley and the author for an ARC, and the author for the copy I won in a contest. I will treasure it always!
Greta goes to New York thinking she will be interning with her distant and wealthy relatives' company. She's excited to meet her cousin, Cece, who is a social media darling. When she arrives, things definitely aren't they way they have been portrayed.
Dalton Bishop has gone "undercover" as a homeless man in an attempt to better understand what leads people to end up that way. In reality, he comes from a wealthy family himself but has been drifting. He is struggling to figure out where he fits into the picture. He takes on this "social experiment" in an attempt to not only understand how people become homeless, but also to better understand himself.
Through an ironic twist of fate, Greta, Cece and Dalton meet. The adventure continues from there as they discover more about themselves and one another. Through this story, you come to realize that things definitely aren't always as they appear, especially when portrayed on social media. The old adage that money doesn't lead to happiness really is true. When you least expect it, you may just find your "someone."
Good Man, Dalton is a sweet and clean romance. This makes it suitable for a wide range of readers. Overall, I thought this was a cute story. Unfortunately, it was slow start for me and I don't know that I ever truly connected with the characters. There were a lot of issues thrown in and I felt like the author was always explaining things and I never had a chance to "feel" them. I had to push myself to get through it in parts. I do think that some people will enjoy and connect with this book. Sometimes a book just doesn't work for a certain reader. I really did like the ending and how the author wrapped things up for the characters though.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Linda’s Book Obsession Reviews “Good Man Dalton” by Karen McQuestion, Lake Union Publishing, March 12, 2019
Karen McQuestion, Author of “Good Man Dalton” has written an enjoyable, entertaining, delightful, and heartwarming novel. The Genres for this story are Fiction, Women’s Fiction, and Romance. The time-line for this story are present, and goes to the past when it pertains to the cast and characters. The author describes her characters as intriguing, fun-loving, and likable.
Greta Hanson will be interning for her wealthy family in New York City ,and looking forward to seeing her cousin Cece, who she hasn’t seen in years. Greta comes from a more modest home, and has no idea what she is in for. Dalton Bishop is also heading to the city, but with a secret. He has decided to try out a social experiment. Dalton comes from a well to do family.
Dalton unexpectedly helps both Greta and Cece, when they run into some mishap. Is this the start of something special? I appreciate that the author discusses happiness, love and hope, instead of materialistic things. I would highly recommend this enchanting novel for those readers who like a Happily Ever After, and feel- good story. I received an ARC from NetGalley.
Good Man, Dalton is a touching story of humanity in a shallow world. It's a good portrayal of the haves and have nots. It's so interesting to read about morals and values interwoven into a meet cute story. A feel good read that will make you smile and question who you are. I recommend this one. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
What a truly wonderful story! It has a storyline that is unique and fresh as well as characters that are fun and interesting. This author is new to me but after reading this book I will definitely be looking for more from her. Add this one to the TBR list, I think you'll really enjoy Greta and Dalton's story.
This authors books are really good. The content keeps you reading and really holds you. Unfortunately, her ending are all the same. She ties up all the loose ends and it’s done. You hardly realize the book is done. I wait for and epilogue so she can give us that completeness. I’m sorry to say that I won’t read anymore of her books because an ending is just as important as content.
This book was refreshing and feel good read! A first read by me by This author. I received it from Net Galley for an honest review. Wow I was not disappointed! This books shows the good that can be in the world and is a heartwarming tale of 2 amazing characters. I really enjoyed this and highly recommend it!
This book was such a heartwarming and revealing the bright side of the human nature. Such a sweet story made you want to become a better person especially when author made us face the otherside of rich people's lives, and in contrast with the living on the streets. It left me thinking of these problems a lot. Thank you Karen McQuestion for this amazing gift I won from you in the giveaway! I absolutely loved it!
Good Man, Dalton is a charming romantic tale and then some. The characters seem real despite many of them being quite wealthy. I'm glad we did not really 'meet' Cece's parents who clearly are more concerned with image than she. You will cheer when she meets her true self, who is kind, sunny and funny.
I value the fact that Good Man, Dalton is a true romance, chastely written with characters I like. I appreciated it even more upon reading the afterword by the author. We need more of that in these over-exposed, show and tell everything times.
This is my second book from this Author. I loved this book. There are so many 'bad' things happening these days, that all you want to do is read a 'feel good' book and that is what this is. I could not put it down
This book was ok. He acts to be a homeless guy so he can figure what kind of help the homeless needs. He happen to bump in Greta at a diner in New York. They go their separate ways but feel the connection between each other. They keep running into each other and get to know each other.
August 23, 2020... In the midst of almost 6 long months of the C-19 pandemic I found this gem! I loved every second of this heartwarming and uplifting story! Thank you so very much for lifting my spirits in this very unsettling world!
GOOD MAN, DALTON by Karen McQuestion is a unique and heartwarming story that pulled me in from the beginning and held me captive to the very end. The two main characters, Greta Hansen and Dalton Bishop, cross paths in a truly unexpected way. Greta is excited that she has been offered a career-launching internship with a corporation owned by her distant and extremely wealthy cousins. She travels from her modest home in Wisconsin to New York City only to soon find that she has been hired as little more than a babysitter for her famous cousin Cece, a social media celebrity whose every move is tracked online. Dalton is embarking on an eye-opening social experiment that takes him from his privileged family roots to living temporarily as a homeless person in New York City. While living on the streets, Dalton unexpectedly rescues Cece and Greta from a sticky situation and their paths become entwined in ways they could never imagine. The story has plenty of humor, adventure, family drama and romance, but it also touches on some serious topics such as homelessness, PTSD and aid for veterans. I really enjoyed this heartfelt and thought-provoking book and look forward to reading more from Karen McQuestion.
I loved the idea behind the story, but it was too long in detailing every single thought the two main characters had. The last ten chapters of the book were the best.
I'm confused about how this book got so many 4- and 5-star reviews. To me, it's a 2 at best. The story idea is a good one, but it was not developed very well. Instead of some details that would enrich the story and characters, way too much time was spent on mindless, silly conversations between bland characters that all seemed the same. I kept looking up this title to see if it was a YA book, that's the only thing that could partially explain the shallowness. NOT that YA books are bad, lots of them are amazing, but this seemed like the type of story non-reading teenagers might breeze through.
This was such a fun, insightful read ! The author shows two opposite lifestyles. We have Greta, from the Midwest , who gets an internship with the cousin she never met, the extremely rich Cece. We meet Dalton , who is giving up his privileged life to live as a homeless person for 2 weeks to get some insight into truly trying to help out homeless people This was easy to read Ruth characters I will remember for a long time !
