Clarity of Lines is the second book of the Thomas Elkin series.

Tom and Cooper’s relationship has to withstand the first real difficulties. Coming out as a couple with that much age difference is not easy.
I wanted them to know about the person who challenged me, who drove me crazy, who made me laugh. Who loved me.

Facing their family members’ reaction is sometimes tough, sometimes annoying, but they manage to overcome it. And it is still better than losing the chance to tell them. Tom’s loss is sad, yes, but it is so much a Hollywood-like scene that I didn’t feel it real.

Cooper and Tom are sweet and hot together, their relationship is strong and develops wonderfully. I enjoyed Cooper’s banter, and seeing Tom to lighten up a bit was lovely.
Goodnight, Tom. WYWH.
I had to Google what the acronym was, and before I could reply, another message came through. Did you just Google that?
Little smart ass. Shut up. You wouldn't have to wish I was there if you moved in with me. I sighed. Goodnight Cooper.
Goodnight Tom. ILY.
Just as I smiled at my phone another message came through. That means I love you.

A very captivating and entertaining read.

4.5 stars!

Loving Tom/Cooper even more they’re definitely faced more bumps in their new relationship in this installment but as always they can handle anything. This one was also a bit more emotional too especially the last few chapters but the sweet love between this guys always outshines anything. Book 3...... ♥️

This was cute, hot and angst free and just what i needed.

I am knocking off a star for the villain ex- wife theme. In real sense she is the victim, i will not rant about it, considering this book was first published in 2013, i would like to think we have grown past that troupe.

The chemistry between Tom and Cooper is believable and the sex was hot.

The parents reaction was realistic.

Overall, i liked it.

*Sigh*

Reread July 2019

They are still a favorite couple of mine.

Reread May 2018

I lust love these two so much.

Originally read February 2018

Tom and Cooper are moving along in their relationship. Not everyone understands. Not everyone is accepting. But through it all they are solid. They might fight or say words they can't take back, but they never call it quits or stop loving each other.

"I loved him, this man who was half my age and twice as strong as me. I’d never loved him more."

“Move in with me, Cooper. I want to go to sleep with you. I want to wake up next to you. Every day. I want to live with you. I want to know everything about you. I want you to show me how you see the world.” Then I added, “I want to show you things like the different architecture all around the world, all the amazing places. I want to share that with you. You are perfect for me, Cooper.” I sat back on my haunches and shrugged. “You’ve changed me, and I don’t want to live without you.”

I love Thomas Elkin.

I let it be known to all that I love Thomas Elkin.

But when people ask why, it’s hard to really explain. He’s not this dashing alpha-male character who saves the world. He’s not overtly charismatic or sexy in an obvious way. He’s not the kind of character that people fangirl over and make collages and videos about.

He’s just Thomas.

He’s older. He’s mature. He’s established, successful. He’s finding himself. He’s letting himself find himself. He’s navigating the many landmines of dating a younger man, a younger man who is friends with his son. He’s reliable. He’s flawed. He’s witty. He’s brilliant. Some might thing boring where I think steadfast. He’s…so freaking dreamy…to me, at least. :)

Book 2 of this series just gives us more of Thomas…and for me, that would have been enough. But, since this is a romance between TWO characters, it also gives us more of Cooper. And surprisingly…that really worked for me too. Considering I wasn’t entirely sold on Cooper after book 1, I’m…well…I’m warming up to him. :) I am mostly just happy to see Thomas happy…and in love.

I would suspect that if you don’t love Thomas as much as I do (and really, NO ONE loves him as much as I do! :) ), the book might seem a cycle of some repetition: a bunch of smut, followed by introducing the relationship to a family member or friend, followed by a bunch of smut, and then another introduction of the relationship to a family member or friend, and then some additional smut…you get the picture.

But, I liked that smut. DAMN it was hot.

And I liked reading about how Thomas and Cooper met the challenge of their family and friends head on. And NR Walker then throws in a really emotional and difficult twist…that ties everything up so well. It brought the relationship between Thomas and Cooper into perspective…two men who love, need, and support each other…regardless of age.

If you’re a fan of book 1, you will really enjoy this follow up.

If you like the May/December romance trope, give this series a try.

If you’re a NR Walker fan, then duh…you’re probably already reading it!

Cooper and Tom....for serious.....just....I can't....I'm mush....so much love...

"It's a Gen Y thing."

"It's a Cooper Jones thing."

This book picks up where Elements of Retrofit leaves off. Tom and Cooper are happy together and falling more and more in love. Now that the whole job situation has been taken care of, the two are able to openly be together. That means family introductions.

I loved that no matter what anyone's opinion was or what nasty comment was thrown their way, never for one second did Cooper and Tom falter. They were a united front...a true partnership. They stood side by side and faced the doubters, skeptics and haters.

...we could prove to them that we were serious. It wouldn't be easy, it would take patience and understanding, and it could very well take years.

But he was worth it. WE were worth it.

And when Tom goes through an especially trying time, Cooper was there for him like no one else could have been. Cooper showed and proved to those around them that age is of no importance. It's a man's character, his heart and soul, that truly defines him.

I loved him, this man who was half my age and twice as strong as me.

One of my favorite parts of this installment is the running joke of how Tom keeps asking Cooper to move in with him and Cooper turning him down. It added for some hilarious exchanges between the two. And another thing that I now see as a pattern, is that even though the books are in Tom's POV, the epilogues are in Cooper's! I love that N.R. Walker gives us a taste in each book of Cooper's mind.

My only minor issue is that I wish there was a bit more steam. We do get a healthy amount of on screen sex, but there's also a fair amount of fade to black. And yes, yes....I am a smut slut....but I'd like to see more of the intimate and passionate side of Cooper and Tom, not only because what we do get is hot, but because it just adds more depth to the attraction and connection they have.

I have absolutely loved watching these two evolve and fall deeper and deeper in love over the course of two books and can't wait to see where their journey takes them in the last book.

Loved it just as much the second time! Love how these two are in 100%, no matter what. Rock-solid, sweet and so so sexy!

Original review April 2020
More Thomas and Cooper please! I loved this second book so much. A lot of times in a romance, I find myself wondering what happened when they told their families, what happened in their lives after they said I love you. And while you often get an epilogue, the jump a few years into the future leaves me wondering how it all went down. Here you get all that, and it’s beautiful. They are there together for it all. And even though I usually stay away from series featuring the same two MCs because it sometimes feels like the authors are milking it (I hated the Try series and may have some PTSD), this left me wanting more. Starting the third book right now!

re-read June 2016. Not as good as book one, but still really fucking good. 4.5 stars.

This was the perfect sequel to N.R. Walker's Elements of Retrofit. It literally got to the heart of Tom and Cooper's relationship and I feel in love with the pair all over again.

If you read and enjoyed Elements of Retrofit, you will most certainly enjoy Clarity of Lines. And, yes, I believe you need to read the first book to understand the second. They are meant to compliment one another.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 5 stars, favorites shelf. Can't wait for #3 Sense of Place, coming January 2014:

Thomas Elkin and Cooper Jones finally have the support of their families together, and their love grows stronger every day. Now living together, they thought nothing could stand in their way.

But there are outside influences trying to pull them apart.
Cooper encounters a man, closer to his age and with connections high up the property development chain. Tom encounters discrimination and a hidden agenda from a fellow senior-partner.

No matter what the world throws at them, Tom and Cooper are the real deal. Age differences aside, Tom has finally found his sense of place. His one true center, his home.

I really liked how Tom and Cooper's relationship evolved in this one. They are wonderful together.

The way their families dealt with their relationship was very realistic. I'm glad there was no silly family drama here.

These books should really just be one book! Haha but these two are great, so glad to read about them again!

Reread/Relisten #1-December 2022

The real world came and slapped them in the face haha but glad they didn’t let that effect them! Now on to the last book!

3.5-4 stars-October 2022

Loving these two. They had a taste of the real world and how it would take their relationship…Not very well, but I am glad they didn’t let that push them apart!

This is a great series, love this couple! Thomas and Cooper's emotional connection is believable, and they compliment each other so well. The conflict is real life stuff and not pointless or contrived drama. The age difference adds an interesting dynamic, although I'm starting to feel bad for Tom with all the old jokes. Is 44 really all that old? I guess if you're 22 it might seem like it, Lol. I have to admit the gen y joke got on my nerves after awhile. I'm going to schedule some time in to do research on 44 year olds who do not look like dinosaurs. Here's one,

Anyway, I think this couple is just as great as Travis and Charlie, and that's saying something, because I loved that series. I'm really glad we get a chapter in Cooper's pov, because that really made the book for me. I do have a couple of minor observations though. This book had some editing issues, and in 5 books in the Red Dirt series, I never noticed editing problems. It was funny because I was wondering if she had some weird spell check go crazy and add the word "gotten" by accident all over the place. The other thing is that Tom and Cooper are supposed to be American New Yorkers, but sometimes they sounded British. Don't get me wrong, I love reading books by British and Australian authors, it's just a distraction when those phrases come out of American characters. Believe me, I wish I didn't notice these things.

Overall, I'm loving the series though! Moving on to book 3.

Better than the first book, more angsty and real; I loved seeing Tom and Cooper fall deeper in love.

I'm very appreciative of Ryan for standing by his dad and Cooper, especially since the same can't be said for other family members on either side. They slowly come around, though.

And of course Cooper stands by his man as tragedy strikes. I do wish Walker didn't summarize so many of the sexy scenes; just a little more detail would have been nice.

This one ended on a great note. Can't wait to read book 3.

Wonderful narration by Nick J. Russo, and as this is an emotionally charged story, his interpretation was perfection [thank goodness Nic decided that a change of narrator was in order for this series]. The drafting table made several appearances 😉. The cost may be an issue for some people...quite expensive for a 3 hour+ narration really, but I got the audio for a cheaper price cos I bought the book back in 2015.

Book Review 2015

5 stars ★★★★★ and 5 ♥♥♥♥♥ from me.... another delightful, delicious instalment of Nic's Thomas Elkin series of books. I read the first one on a plane from London to Lisbon...this one I stopped decorating the Christmas tree and just sat down and read it, and it couldn't have been more perfect, sigh.

I really do think that Cooper is the adult in this relationship...."How did you get so wise?" "I'm just smart like that". I kissed him with smiling lips. "You're just smug like that." "It's a Gen Y thing?" "It's a Cooper Jones thing". It has to be said that both guys are completely head over heels with each other, and as Cooper says "I've fallen in love with you, and if gender doesn't matter, then neither should age".

In this story, Cooper has his work cut out trying to convince Tom's jealous ex wife Sofia that he and Tom are really together and are the 'real deal' (and luckily they have Ryan's support)....and that's before they have to tell both sets of parents that they are a couple (and in Tom's case, he actually needs to 'come out' to his Mum and Dad as well), but as usual, the course of true love does not run smoothly for either of them, and there will be lots of tears before we reach the end of the tale. Congrats Nic, another wonderful story. ♡♡♡

3 1/2 Stars - for a nice story about a nice male couple - with a nice update on their ongoing relationship - simply niiiice!!

Clarity of Lines is the second novella (a sequel to Elements of Retrofit - 3.8 stars from me) about an architect and successful business leader, the 44 year old Thomas Elkin, and his attraction (and maybe life-love) to a much younger man. The young man who has begun to really capture his heart is a talented, promising and so delightfully charming guy, named Cooper Jones. ...Cooper who also happens to be at the same age, and a friend to, Thomas just 22 year old son.

~ I've been waiting for this follow up story and look forward to another great time with these men. ~

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

This second part Clarity of Lines was really cute about the man with the half as young (hot and needy) lover. A slightly more "challenged" relationship (...of people in general and in a romance) with an unusually large age difference, in any case, given that one of them is still so young. This alone should give the story a strong and interesting dynamic and a real opportunity to sensitive bumps and screws. Though I don't really notice this much, more than that it constantly gets repeated by themselves.

Undoubtedly, was this second novella (100 pages) very, very fun and cuddly with some important everyday issues. Kind of simple in some sort of diary style, from Tom's POV - ...a number of weeks came and went and I got both important and less important information about daily events - sigh! - Unfortunately not quite what I hoped for.
‘He just knew, He knew exactly what I needed, and he gave it to me without question.’

...In all honesty; I was a unusually restless . I lacked some speed and real excitement, it just got a bit flat and without any sharp edges. It felt mostly to sugar sweet with only a lot of family relationships that needed to be resolved. Relationships that perhaps was so-so but not enough anguished or debilitating to really add so much to this love story. I needed something that chafed, perhaps a difference of opinions and maybe an occasional romantic conflict to raise the temperature a few degrees this time.
 photo image_zpsb87abdd2.jpg

”You're such little shit,” I mumled.
“It's a Gen Y thing,” he said cheerfully.
“It's a Cooper Jones thing.” Then I added, “It's a pain in the ass thing.”
“You love pain in the ass thing.”

Maybe I'm unusually cranky today, maybe it's the stress before the holiday trip?
Some more positive words anyway: This book is really fun and entertaining written, and the two men's pie-throwing (banters) at each other was wonderful this time too. As for the love scenes, are they also admirably tender and lovely told. These guys are really perfect for each other and so steamy hungry when they are together - nothing to complain about regarding that matter.

...Either way, these two men, Tom and Cooper, are, always, lovely to meet but the price of only nice (and lovely steamy) may be too high sometimes. I want more than just NICE. - Please, Ms Walker, give me "more" in the next part (Sense of Place).

I LIKE - okay because I already liked the guys

Oh be still my beating heart! Nic Walker does it again ... only this time she had my 5 stars on the first page when the book opens with the first of many awesome, funny, sweet, witty, sigh inducing, loving, banter filled conversations between the gorgeous X Gen Thomas and his " little shit" Y Gen lover, the irascible but oh so loveable Cooper! God I love these two men. * sigh*

' We untangled ourselves and Cooper suggested we shower together. "To save water," he said. "We should be responsible, ecologically sound citizens," he said. I just rolled my eyes. "You just want to see me naked, don't you?" He laughed and put his wrist to his mouth, pretending to speak into some covert-operative mouthpiece. "My cover's been blown, I repeat my cover's been blown." '

For me Elements of Retrofit was insta love but this one surpassed even that. Can you have insta adora love? Because if you can I've got it with this ongoing May/December goodie. The relationship... sorry ... the LOVE story between Thomas and Cooper is so beautifully portrayed and so tangible that you feel you can almost touch it and its all shown in this wonderful sizzling witty chemistry they share. They bounce off each other, throwing snarky comments between them like a seasoned comedy duo but under all that, there's a really deep loving warmth that jumps out at you as you settle down like a fly on the wall, to watch them weather the oncoming disapproval and disbelief that they encounter from friends and family members who have yet to be informed of their relationship. How they do that and the different responses they have to cope with from all around them, make this the fantastic read that it is. Add in sensual, sexy, love scenes that never swamp but enhance the love they share and its sheer heaven.

' Cooper knew I needed him on some level, like he always just knew. I loved him, this man who was half my age and twice as strong as me. I'd never loved him more. '

The balance of humour, conflict and poignancy is pitched perfectly and the reactions they encounter are realistic and understandable. The way they support each other throughout had me laughing, sighing and at times tearful.
I beseech all readers who have an aversion to the older/younger man theme to bypass those feelings and just get lost in the awesomeness of this lovely series. Even though the whole premise is based on so called age difference, I just see the beautiful romance. I love it, love it, love it!

This is book 2 in the story of Tom and Cooper, about the relationship between an older man and his younger partner. It could be read as a stand-alone but I think that it is more enjoyable if you have read the first story beforehand.

The first book focused on how their relationship came about and the initial difficulties around this however this story includes their families and how they show their commitment to others and, in particular, Tom's coming out to his parents.

I always enjoy books by NR Walker and this was no exception. When I'd read Book 1, I'd felt that the story was a bit one-dimensional and not as good as the previous books I'd read by this author however Book 2 added to the picture of Tom and Cooper's relationship and I'm fully intending to read the rest.

N R Walker's books are a nice balance of story lines and love scenes and show real feelings between her characters.

Still really enjoying Cooper and his sass! I like how he makes Tom work for things far too much.

I also liked how Tom's son Ryan accepted the relationship by having an actual conversation instead of being a drama llama about it.

Although, I really dislike Sofia - what a bitch! And Cooper's parents kinda bothered me with the way they insinuated that Tom was a predator! I really don't understand why some people have such an issue with age gap relationships when everyone involved is a consenting and of age adult. If it blows up, it blows up, but that's no one else's decision to make.

Really like Tom and Cooper together!

*** Loving this trilogy ! *** Continuing on with Tom and Cooper, our suit and tie Architects from "Retrofit." They are now a couple, determined to tell parents their status and move on with life together. They attend Tom's son's birthday and the ex-wife is a shrew to Tom and Cooper.

With that , and newly acknowledged "love," the "L" word expressed, they settle into a daily routine and the guys get closer and closer. Super hot sex dots this terrific story, great banter, and Cooper reveals a fantasy, which is later delivered by Tom.

Our hearts are captured and we want the best for our men. Traveling to meet Cooper's parents wasn't as hoped, and Tom was wonderful in this moment. Big events are taking place, like Cooper's special work project, and then through Tom's tragedy, Cooper rushes to his side, and he's strong, steadfast, and an absolute rock. Tom finally "gets it right" when asking Cooper the next step. The guys are more solid than ever. Truly poignant scenes, intimate talks, and you see these guys really pay attention to each other. They truly "get" the other.

Magnificent characters, amazing writing from N.R. Walker as always, and you won't want to put it down. I've just begun the third one.

I highly recommend this fabulous set of stories about two men who find their "one."
IMO, we need to read all three continuing stories in this beautiful trilogy.
ENJOY !!!

The whole book was just one major swoon-fest: The banter, the openness, the utter steadfastness, the certainty, the playfulness, the snark, the LOVE - gah 🥹🥰😩

Love them, Cooper and Tom 4eva 💕

Edited for audio: I'm only going to ask one thing: Have you already purchased Elements of Retrofit or Clarity of Lines in audio format? Nick J. Russo is simply a pleasure to listen to, with great character voices, timing, and a terrific pace. Frankly, this is a no-brainer: buy this series.

I love this series more every time I read it. Told again (mainly) from Tom's single POV (though Cooper does get his own chapter at the end 😘), this contemporary romance features an age gap that doesn't really matter, plenty of steamy scenes, some light, low angst, and a wonderful happy for now ending.

Trigger warning:

I can hardly wait for book 3: Sense of Place to release on audio!

Highly recommended!

This review is for the 2015 release copy.

I love this series.

In book two we get to see the training wheels come off and the progression from dating to being in a full, loving relationship. We also get to the introduction stage with Tom's ex, Cooper's parents, and Cooper and Tom's various friends...and all that awkwardness.

The story begins with Tom and Cooper planning a trip to the Hamptons for Tom's son Ryan's birthday. They'll be staying with Tom's ex Sofia.

“You nervous?” I asked him.
He looked surprised by my question. “No. Should I be?”
I smiled at his confidence. “I just don’t think Sofia will be very understanding. No matter what she says, just remember, I’m on your side.”
“Ryan’s mom always liked me,” he said.
“She likes you as Ryan’s friend, yes,” I told him. “But as my boyfriend…”
He shrugged. “And all the guys who’ll be here this weekend?” he asked. “All Ryan’s friends, some of my friends, they’ll all be here too. We’re meeting them as a couple too.”
Shit. I hadn’t given that a thought.
Then Cooper took his hand off my thigh and looked out of the window as he spoke, “If you don’t want to…”
I pulled the car off to the side of the road, right near the driveway to the Casa. I think I startled him. He looked at me, wide-eyed.
“Cooper, listen to me,” I said seriously. “I don’t care what anyone else thinks. I know some people will have a hard time with us being together, because we’re gay men, and because of the age difference. But I don’t care. I’m proud to call you my boyfriend. For the life of me I can’t figure out why you’d want to be with me, but you do, and I’m more than happy to walk in there, holding your hand. But I don’t want you to feel pressured.”
“I don’t feel pressured,” he said. “And I can’t figure out why you’d want to be with me either, but you do.”
I nodded. “Yes, I do.”

This is really the only angsty bit in the entire thing, and it is such a cringe-worthy scene because Tom doesn't give Sofia any warning of just who (or how old) his new boyfriend is.
cringe

She put the knife down, which was probably a good thing. “How about a little warning, Tom? How about a phone call before you got here, to say you’re dating someone who went to school with our son?”
“Okay,” I conceded. “Yes, I probably should have given you some warning. I apologize.”

Next up it's time for Tom to meet Cooper's parents. You know what awkward is? When you have your lover who is one month older than your father meet your parents.
Awkward-Unique

But through all the good times and bad, the one constant is they are there for each other, to support and shore up.

He fit against me perfectly. He felt right—his arms, his smell. Everything. He was…everything.
PS I Love you

I love this series more every time I read it. This is just an absolutely terrific, low angst May/December romance, with no miscommunication, hot sexy times, and a sweet HFN!

Also, there’s another bonus chapter told from Cooper’s POV!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

A continuation of this lovely, low angst, May/December romance. Though this volume is a bit more sad , the story flows seamlessly from the first part, but can be read as a standalone, and comes with its own HFN.

Coming out to their families and knowing beforehand that they won't take it well was very brave thing for Coop and Tom to do. I loved how they supported each other, stood up for each other. There was more angst in this book, there was grief and dealing with loss. I loved Cooper and how sensitive he was to Tom's needs in difficult time.

The whole story was filled with humor and witty banter. Cooper's confidence is really attractive, his surety in his relationship with Tom paving the way to acceptance and deep love between them. I think that Cooper is the driving force between the two of them, he even helps Tom to accept things as they are when he has doubts. I really like him. Tom is really cute when he is with Cooper, he needs a little shaking up to make him feel alive and Cooper gives him that plus the way they understand each other makes their relationship more intimate.

This is really nice angsty novel with likable characters and real life issues. The way they deal with them is admirable, makes both Cooper and Tom very approachable. I really enjoyed this one. I think it was even better that the first book. I recommend it!

”If gender doesn’t matter, then neither should age.”

I’m a huge fan of Nic Walker and have been reading all of her sweet and mostly angst free romance novels. The Thomas Elkin series is a winner as well, I just loved the first book.

In Clarity of Lines Thomas and Cooper’s relationship is settled. They are ready to do the next step – showing the world that they are together. Unsurprisingly their families don’t take the news well. Especially Tom’s ex-wife Sofia and Cooper’s Dad leave nothing undone to force them apart.

Anyway, despite the age gap of twenty-two years I wouldn’t call Tom and Cooper’s relationship a May/December romance. They are just two men - born in different generations - in love. Reserved, patient and oh so cute Tom, and young, vivid and demanding Cooper. The age difference just doesn’t matter, it rather helps their understanding and provides some good humor between them. I love the easy banter between the two guys. Coop’s enthusiasm and carefreeness is contagious. He is funny, cute and - in the words of Thomas – such a little shit. :)
”Remind me again why my boyfriend is twenty-two?”
“Because I was born twenty-two years after you, my dear forty-four-year old boyfriend,” he said cheerfully. “And because I’m amazing.”
“You’re a little shit,” I mumbled. “And don’t blame it on Gen Y. It’s all you.”

The focus of the series is simply on two men falling in love. It’s about strength and stability, about honesty and integrity, about truth in the lines that they draw. Above all it’s about clarity of lines and only Tom and Cooper can draw these lines. Not Cooper’s dad who accuses Tom of taking advantage of his son… and not Tom’s ex-wife Sofia who acts as if Tom were some creeped-out pervert.

Apart from a few family conflicts Clarity of Lines is definitely one of those books you’re going to read with a big smile on your face. It’s a feel-good-story without an excessive amount of angst or drama. I found myself grinning like a fool throughout the book. Yeah, I’m awful sappy, I know. :)

And there is this maddeningly complicated Generation X & Y thing between them. If you need to google it, don’t worry. Tom and I had to do it as well.
“I know it’s a Gen Y thing to want everything yesterday, but some things take time.”
He sighed and was quiet for a little while. Then he looked at me curiously. “What generation are you anyway?” he asked.
“Generation X,” I answered.
“You had to Google that, didn’t you?”
“Yes,” I admitted with a laugh.
“So if I’m Gen Y and you’re X, then together we are the chromosome code for male,” he mused.
“Yes, I am X marks the spot, and you are the dear God, why, why, why.”
“Fucking hell, Tom,” he deadpanned. “We need to work on your jokes.”

Nic Walker's writing style is warm and smooth, it’s like painting pictures with words. The characters just drew me right in and I couldn't help but feel the explosive chemistry between Tom and Cooper. They are just so funny and cute and sexy all wrapped in one. It’s such a joy to see them together.

This book made me smile, made me swoon, made me laugh but above all made me want to read more about the guys. I will definitely be returning to the series. So please sign me up for the third installment! Highly recommended for those who want a well done, sweet, funny and delicious romance without too much drama.

Soooo, here’s the thing-
I’m not a fan of big age difference love affairs. Which truly makes no sense; my own grandparents were separated by 16 years. And honestly, maybe that’s it.
My Gramps passed away several years ago and my grandmother still has many many years left in her. People always look at me funny when I introduce her, she could very well pass as my own mother. She is a young, hip Grams. She refuses to consider another relationship, her husband, only husband is gone. I know she was extremely happy during her thirty years of marriage, but I’m saddened by her golden years of solitude.
Sorry, I digress…
I didn’t even know what May-December romances were,
*ahem*
in case you were not aware either, it is indeed when the couple in question is separated by a significant age gap….
and truthfully, if it wasn’t NR, I probably would have left the story after the first book.
But my loyalty and curiosity got the best of me…and I moved onto more Thomas and Cooper.
Damn, am I glad I did.

Their relationship has grown by a few weeks and things are building between Tom and Cooper. The first hurdle they have to tackle is telling Ryan. It was more of a surprise attack and it was…awkward. This isn’t their most challenging obstacle by far. Constantly trying to prove themselves to their families and friends could have easily worn them down, broken their bond.
Yet, in some strange way it forged them stronger and tighter, almost as if they had an honest to goodness ‘need’ for each other.
Their love is powerful, unique and clear.
They bend and twist together beautifully.
The snark was great, the sex was hot, and the emotions ran red hot.

Shockingly, I really enjoyed it. I believe I would have loved it, if it was merely the age thing. However, the falling in love with your kid’s friend/friend's dad part prevented me from loving it. This may not bother you, and in that case, I think you will enjoy the fall.
For that’s what this story is…a trust fall between two men, men made from different eras, but made for one another nevertheless.

3.5 stars

Until about 80% of this story -- I was dead set on giving this around 3 - 3.25 stars. See, the writing was nice (it's N.R. Walker, for those who have read hers, you know what I was talking about). It was light and easy (sometimes too easy). However, at the same times, it's also a "lather, rinse, repeat" kind of story.

We have Thomas and Cooper bantering, got horny, had sex, planning to introduced themselves to others as couple, bantering, got horny, had sex, planning to introduced themselves to others as couple, bantering, got horny, had sex, planning ... oh, you get the point.

Even the bantering is like watching a cycle: you little shit, you old man, is it the Gen Y thing, no it's a Cooper Jones thing, love you, love you too, you little shit, you old man

... hmmm, this review starts to get annoying is it?

Anyway, yes, that was how I felt ... until the last two chapters.

It brought up an event that I didn't see coming and it was more punch to the gut. It raised the emotional level for me -- and it got myself more engaged to them. Thus the 3.5 stars. In the meantime, having Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams (aka Harvey and Mike from Suits) in my head definitely made the story more enjoyable

I am not sure I will be there for the final story, though. The thing is, I am not that impressed with N.R. Walker's writing or story anymore (even if I rated the previous book with 4*). They are nice but on the long run, not sure I will remember most of them...

PS: That DRAT endearment "baby" made appearance (urgh, vomit!)

4.5 Stars!

Book 2 in a 3 part series of novellas featuring Thomas and Cooper.

Book 2--Clarity of Lines--picks up where book 1 left off. Cooper's internship has ended. In order for them to stay together, Cooper gets hired on at competing firm.

Thomas and Cooper's relationship continues to develop. They are both trying to navigate Cooper's new job, as well as, telling their families about their relationship.

Families that aren't always accepting of the 20 year age gap.

I love that the drama/conflict within the series isn't juvenile drama between the MCs but rather how outside factors affect Thomas and Cooper's relationship and how they, together, face those challenges.

Again, I'm loving Cooper and Thomas. A great addition to the series. A little bit more fade to black sex then the last in the series, but still some steam.

Can't wait to see how their story concludes!

First read Dec. 14, 2013:

Thankfully I remembered book #1, so no re-read necessary. Either because my memory got better, or, and I think that's the case here, the writing was simply wonderful and remained with me.

So, finished reading this one in record time, loved it, just like the first book, and now back to waiting for the next one. Is it January already?

Re-read Jan. 23-24, 2014:

Still as good as the first read, love both, Tom and Cooper together. Small niggle: I could have done with less Gen Y.

Re-re-read April 23, 2015:

In hopes to get out of my reading slump - another re-read of this wonderful book. And yes, my Gen Y niggle still stands.

Re-read Jan. 10-11, 2019:
Nothing to add to what I said after my last re-read.

Love this book. Some of my re-reads makes my wonder why I rated them so high. This one I can't rate high enough.

Still a favourite 🖤

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

I loved him, this man who was half my age and twice as strong as me. I’d never loved him more.

A surprising amount of stuff happens in these 100 ish pages, and I was totally into it the entire time. I wanted to know what would happen next. I’m pretty sure there’s nothing N. R. Walker can’t write. I still haven’t found a book by this author I don’t like. This series doesn’t seem to be any different.

I really appreciate that the age gap is actually an ‘issue’. Not for our main characters (beyond some of book 1), but for family and friends. I like that no one pretends like a 44 year old man dating a 22 year old man wouldn’t be commented on or that people aren’t gonna have issues with it. However, I think it is all solved really nicely. People are given the opportunity to understand and see how perfect these two men are for each other. It’s all quite lovely.

“Please, Cooper. Let me do this for you.” His lips formed a twisted frown. “Are you sure? I hate that you can pay for things I can’t. I feel like a kept boy.” “Of course I’m sure. And you’re not a kept anything. The only thing you keep is me on my toes.” […] “If it would make you feel any better, you can pay for dinner.” I felt him smile against my skin. “I don’t feel that kept.”

“When my grandma died,” he explained softly, “my mom served a lot of chamomile and peppermint tea. It’s supposed to be calming and good for the soul.” He sat down next to me and started to pour some of the hot brew into one of the four cups, then he stopped and looked up. “I think that’s the gayest thing I’ve ever said.”
