The last time the Elementals were defeated in a Challenge, the result was World War II-a price humans paid in rivers of blood. Griffin is determined not to let that happen again. He doesn't need a minor goddess getting in his way-no matter how much the redhead tempts him. Clea intends to invoke a debt of honor to gain Griffin's protection, but she has an ulterior motive: to get within striking distance of Griffin's opponent, who she is certain killed her brother. She never expected to feel a spark with Griffin, disturbingly seductive as he is. In a world where everyone looks like a god or goddess, why should this one winged Elemental call to her? Yet their attraction grows fiercer as they journey to Iceland, Luxembourg, and finally Portugal to face Griffin's foe. But even if they prevail, Griffin is holding onto one last, deadly secret that proves the truth can survive any Challenge, but love may be its final victim.
Claire lives in Los Angeles, so many of her stories are set there, too. But she is originally from Brookline, Massachusetts, so that location frequently pops up in her work, too. Claire spends her free time writing, doing animal rescue, and enjoying the sunshine. She specializes in writing romances of all kinds and never shies away from the “between the sheets” elements!
Look for the third and final book of the Redemption of the Gorgons series to be released in December, 2020!
Endangered by her stepfather, minor goddess Clea is directed to seek refuge with Air Elemental, Griffin, in his Iceland lair. She intrigues him - as well as gets in his way, or so he thinks.
Scenes are set in Iceland, Ireland, Rome, Portugal, so if you like travel (I do!), you'll enjoy that part. Although it's set in the same paranormal world as the first in this series, this works well as a stand-alone.
Disclaimer: I am personally acquainted with the author.
I loved the various ways Clea and Griffin are forced to come together (is that a pun? could be a pun) to solve the Challenge facing him. And I loved the Demonos they faced with his basket. Fast paced and exciting, I've already pre-ordered the last in this series. Recommend.
I love the creativity behind this series. For full disclosure, I was hired by the author to record the audiobook for this book, and for Fire Danger, the first in the series.
When you record audiobooks, you really inhabit the worlds they create, and the first thing you notice is pacing. Claire's books really move along. Also, the plots are clear, the settings are interesting, and the steamy parts are steeeeamy. I've read other books of hers as well, and this is true of all of her work.
I appreciate, too, that familiar characters from the mythology of numerous cultures find a place in Claire's plots. Her characters are right in step with those, complete with super powers and shortcomings. But these new superheroes have more emotional dimension, making them sympathetic from the get-go.
Each protagonist in this series is a personification of one of the five elements (hence the series name), and as a result, is a shapeshifter between human appearing and something quite non-human. Each faces a challenge where the stakes are so high the fate of the world depends on it. Real events from history factor into the stories as well.
I am voluntarily reviewing a copy of this book that I received for free.
Clea, a minor slavic goddess, seeks refuge with Griffin, the Air Elemental, in order to avenge her brother's death during the last elemental Challenge. As the story progresses they are faced with the puzzle of what the air challenge will be, and what their relationship is. With sprinklings of humor to offset the sadness and plenty of action and travel the story kept me reading.
I have not previously read any books from this author but I loved it. it is not the usual run of the mill romance in the paranormal genre. There is pathos, humor and plenty of action. I loved the interplay between the characters, both the good and the bad. I was so into the storyline that even before it had finished, I went out and purchased the first in the series.
The series has promise and I plan on reading more of this author's work! This book as a well written tale and I look forward to more!
