Weaver #2

Brighton Honeymoon

Rate this book
Sir Aubrey Tabor began with the most altruistic of motives. When the Brundys' (The Weaver Takes a Wife) seaside wedding trip is interrupted by a young woman claiming to be Mr. Brundy's sister, Sir Aubrey promises to do what he can in order to relieve his friend of an imposter whose presence poses a threat to marital bliss. But Polly proves to be more than a match for Sir Aubrey, and with each encounter, he finds himself thinking less of his friend's honeymoon and more about having one of his own...

4.5* rounded up

Yes, this is lacking some of the conventions of Regencies, but it's lacking those affected ones entering the fray with Georgette Heyer which I tend to detest. Nor is it one of the near-erotica lately cropping up within the genre.

This has a real story, no unnecessary misunderstandings, lots of action, a really plucky, strong heroine who did the best out of some dire cards she was dealt.

Add a prose and voice I found easy and fun to read, and a plot which pulled me in and veritably raced along.

I really liked it!

The charming caper continues....with this delightful and strong sequel.
'elen and Ethan continue in their sweet, adorable way. It is difficult to think of them as a secondary couple in this book, also as they are (happily) given equal space. Although that doesn't take anything away from Polly and Sir Aubrey.

Audiobook: Narrator - Noah Michael Levine

I love this narrator. He’s done an awesome job of these characters and while this one isn’t as entertaining as the first book I still enjoyed it. No trouble discerning character’s voices or following along. And, another awesome listen to Ethan Brundy’s accent! Swoon!

This was so sweet and cute! Loved that we got to watch Ethan as he tries to steal some time away from everyone to spend with his wife but watching Sir Aubry and Polly match wits was incredibly fun and entertaining. Poor Aubry, he had his hands quite full with Polly and her innocent ways. Loved this couple!

"Brighton Honeymoon" is a wonderful sequel in the Weaver series. Oftentimes the second book in a series falls flat but the I loved the couple in this book, Polly and Aubrey, and it was grand to pick up with Ethan Brundy and Lady Helen as they settle into married life and each other. This time, sweet Mr. Brundy just wants some time alone with his new bride and plans a honeymoon trip to Brighton.

However, fates put Polly Hampton into Mr. Brundy's path, she is claiming to be his sister in order to escape a dire situation and to Ethan's dismay, 'elen takes is delighted at the thought of Ethan's long-lost "family" member and insist on taking the young woman with them to Brighton. In exasperation, Mr. Brundy turns to his good friend Sir Aubrey Tabor to expose Polly as imposter and get her out of his home. Soon enough, poor Mr. Brundy has two additional guest along on his honeymoon trip when Sir Aubrey's meddling mum, lady Tabor, decides to accompany her son to Brighton.

This story was delightful and full of humor as Polly is taken under lady Helen's wing and side steps Aubrey's many attempts to trip her up and expose her as a fraud. When things come to a head and Polly is about to be exposed, she does an impulsive act and elopes with Aubrey's cousin in an act of desperation and as revenge against Aubrey. I was really irritated with her at this impulsive act, and much relieved when Aubrey breaks out his alpha personality to stop the nuptials.

I really enjoyed this book, it is Regency at it's finest and a worthy sequel to the extraordinary "The Weaver Takes a Wife."

Where to start?

I did not like Polly one iota. One can't help but feel for her situation but she was a manipulative bit of goods. Although she was not malicious, the blatant lies were wearying. In addition to being naive (you will see what I mean when you hear her motives for going to London & her subsequent behaviour with the older gentleman in Brighton), she was haughty and testy at times. I liked Sir Aubrey but the romance between him and Polly was not believable so it was hard to cheer for a HEA.

Even the beautiful dynamics between Ethan and Helen were not the same. To be honest, this entire story felt rushed and didn't flow well--dull is an understatement. The secondary characters were not endearing. Sigh, this was a poor sequel to The Weaver Takes a Wife--Aubrey really deserved better. I can not recommend this. Save yourself the time. -_-

not nearly as good as Weaver Takes a Wife.
I was happy to see Ethan and Helen back, but they didnt get nearly enough time! Plus they werent written the same. The chemistry just wasnt quite there this go around.

The book was cute and well written, but it was just OK for me.
I didnt really like Polly. I think that was my main problem. I felt that she was just "blah" and how could sir aubrey fall in love with someone like that?

I much prefer Weaver Takes a wife over Brighton Honeymoon.

This series of books reminds me of watching romantic movies in the 50's. The love scenes don't give us way too much information. The scene fades and we get to figure it out all on our own. They don't get in the way of the story! I liked that the characters in the first book played an integral part in this story. There is one more book in the series...'French Leave'. Looking forward to meeting these characters again in it.

a great sequel, plot even better than the first one. Very evocative of my favourite Heyer. I like how she wove the sequel, fresh.

Not as good as the first, but still fun. (I'm feeling pretty proud of myself for finally finishing something; this last reading slump has been worst yet 😣)

Content warning: There were a few kisses, and we were told of every single time the Brundys thought to live as "man and wife", which I thought wasn't really necessary, Ms Sheri.

There's a third book in this series, and despite how much I'd like to see more of the Brundys, I don't think I'll read it. A lot of reviews say that it spoiled the whole series, and I'm not going to risk having the happy image of these characters sullied by a bad finale where cheating between couples is to happen.

While this tale can be read as a standalone, why would you want to? This is the second in a series about a weaver who happens to be one of the richest men in Regency England, and the characters and storytelling are too delicious not to enjoy them all. Book 2 concerns an orphan who claims to be Mr. Brundy's sister but she's really looking for her father. Delightful mayhem ensues. I had the pleasure of listening to narrator Noah Michael Levine's interpretation and actually enjoyed my chores!

Lovely series - Aubrey Talbot’s turn to fall in love

Light, funny and with sweet characters, this series is a great find.
In book two ‘ellen and Mr. Brunt will have their honeymoon crowded by Sir. Aubrey Tabot, his judgmental mother Lady Talbot and Mr. Brunt’s alleged sister Polly.

I loved this book. Polly was so funny. She was a young woman who was orphaned and decided to be Ethan the weaver's sister as he was rich. The weaver was not happy but his wife Helen adored his new sister. Crump knew he had no sister but no one except his friend believed him. So that is the story in a nutshell try to get Polly to admit she is lying and Aubrey who is Ethan's friend to help.

I did not expect to find a second couple in this sequel. I was honestly expecting to see further development to the relationship of those two MCs from the previous book. All in all I guess I am glad they were still kept in this book even though it served as a set up for the new couple to meet and form their own HEA.

What can I say except it was ok if a little underdeveloped again. I mean these moments are mentioned and set up for the characters to interact but other than a couple of interaction between the MCs here, one where the h gives the H a piece of her mind and another where she bears her soul at him we are offered very little in the way of their love build-up. That scene with them dancing, there is a brief mention from h about liking to dance with H and with him not giving her the "ick" feeling other men do and that's it for that interaction. No introspective from the H's side about guiding her in the art of dancing and learning the steps and any possible interaction that can come up with that. Maybe him using her distraction on dancing to trip her up verbally and reveal her true past. But I guess he was already pretty deeply into her at that point to think of that.

I guess I do not have anything bad to say about this story except I did want more development shown to the engagement of the two MCs. Other than that it is in intriguing and light read on the historical take.
And so I guess this read has more of a 2.5 stars feel.

Poor Mr. Brundy. He's finally convinced his wife to take a wedding trip to Brighton. But Polly Hampton has other ideas. She's a shopgirl fired by her employer while suggesting he would be happy to let her stay at his house (wink, wink). Polly has often been told by her mother (before her death) that Polly was of 'quality.' Desperate for another home (instead of the workhouse), Polly seeks another situation, to no avail. Finally, she decides to throw herself on Mr. Brundy's mercies. She decides to try to convince him that she is his long-lost sister. Since Mr. Brundy is an only child, this is a tough sell.

However, Lady Helen Brundy decides to help the girl, while Ethan asks his friend Aubrey to help unload the imposter from his honeymoon. However, Lady Tabor, Aubrey's mother, decides she wants to accompany Aubrey to Brighton, and an appropriate house is unavailable to lease. Aubrey and his mother arrive on the Brundy's doorstep, needing shelter. Now, the stage is set for the mayhem to begin.

The three-bedroom house is too small for five mostly-unrelated individuals. When the Brundys try to engage in some wedding bliss, a squeaky mattress embarrasses Lady Helen. Now, Ethan is desperate to unload the visitors from his honeymoon. This story isn't as laugh-out-loud funny as the first in the series, but I had a smile on my face throughout, and I read the book in less than a day. Overall score = 4.5 stars.

So far, I have really enjoyed the first two books in this series. It was a light entertaining read with engaging characters. Mr. Brunt and Lady Helen were in this series once again, only this time they were on their honeymoon and ended up having to be hosts to a woman named Polly who claimed to be Brunt's sister. She had naively come to London in order to discover who her father was, but with on success. Helen believed that she could be his sister, so she took her in and Polly ended up accompanying them to their honeymoon house. Brunt's friend came as well with the aim of getting Polly married off to one of the young men who spend the warm weather months in Brighton going to the various activities that happen there.
I really enjoyed how the whole story played out. I think the book was well written, well researched with a simple but delightful plot.

4 stars. Wasn’t as good as book one but I’m just loving this series so much so far. The writing is wonderful and engaging and I love how low angst these books are. It took a bit for me to warm up the heroine, Polly. I really don’t like secret/hidden/mistaken identities and Polly lies about who she is for a while and that drove me crazy but she wasn’t a bad person. She’s very likable and I enjoyed her by the end. Sir Aubrey I loved from the jump. What a guy. He’s funny and charming and so incredibly lovable. It was cute how smitten he was with Polly. The ending was great and I also loved that we got so much of Helen and Ethan because I love those two so much and I was very happy with where their relationship ended up here.

Fun read, this series is seriously so light and fluffy and I’m really enjoying them so far.

audiobook review:
"Charming and Funny"
This was a charmingly funny audiobook to listen to.
The messes that young Miss Polly gets herself into were delightfully absurd. Polly has moved to London in hopes of discovering who her father was but ends up posing as Mr. Brundy's sister when she finds herself in dire straights. Mr. Brundy's new wife Helen insists on letting Polly stay and many humorous antics insue. Sir Aubrey Tabor volunteers to help rid Mr. Brundy of his unwanted houseguest but finds himself in over his head with Miss Polly.
Noah Michael Levine did a very good job with the narration.

I really enjoyed this book, the characters are engaging, the story line is solid and it's well executed. The blurb that comes with the book doesn't do it justice.

There was a fair bit of drama in the story but it's very well done and does not come across as manufactured, rather it just seems to fit. The same can be said when there are misunderstandings between the characters.

Polly is a charming character, her naivete and her determination mix together well to create a very likable woman that you can't help but connect with.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The narration was well done with good character voices and a smooth and natural delivery.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

I finished the book with heartwarming. The second book of the series is to be read in order. As to that I love the story of Ethan and Lady Helen so when I found them in this book and discovered how cute the couple are, it made me smile. Sir Aubrey Tabor is another interesting character . He is sexy and charming and fun to read when he encountered with his mother. But the funniest scenes were when Ethan encountered with Sir Aubrey Tabor's mother. I laugh every time.
Polly is a bit naive. It's good to know she was in the good hand of Aubrey Tabor and had her happy ever after.
I'm going to start book number 3, the story of Lord Waverly the villain from book one. I'm sucker for villain's love story.

I didn’t enjoy it. Which is sad, considering The Weaver Takes a Wife is a masterpiece of the genre. I was in sympathy with Polly until she told The Big Lie. After that she annoyed the the hell out of me and I couldn’t be happy for anything good that happened to her. Even the scenes that involved my beloved Ethan were spoiled by the ridiculous behavior of the previously highly esteemed Mrs. Brundy. I’m sure it was intended to be funny, but I just couldn’t bear Polly’s behavior, so I couldn’t find it so. She apologized, in the end, but it wasn’t enough for me after her dreadful behavior. Read it anyway. You may love it, in spite of my opinion. I actually hope you do.

I loved The Weaver Takes a Wife but this book - oh, no. The behavior of the heroine (all of them actually) was everything UN- unexplainable, unpredictable, unnatural and plain crazy. The girl just entered someone's rich household, proclaimed herself a relative and everyone went along with it (why she was not showed the door remaines a mystery). The opposition was nonexistant and the plot bizzare. The thinking prosses was not described and I was waiting for a big reveal... which never came. Sad.

A Madcap Adventure with Delightful Twists and Turns

I was so charmed by The Weaver Takes a Wife that it was with reluctant sadness I finished it.

Imagine how thrilled I was to discover that it was not a standalone, but rather one of four books in a series.

The second book in the series does not disappoint!

Again, with equal parts of the wit and wisdom of PG Wodehouse, Baroness Orczy, Jane Austen, and Georgette Heyer (but in a style and utter endearment all her own), Sheri Cobb South continues the tale of some characters we've already grown to love, adding a few new ones to the mix.

I cannot wait to read books 3 and 4!

At first I was a bit leery about the credibility of Helen's swift acceptance of Polly's story. I was 'listening' as it were, to hear Ethan tell Helen her swift acceptance of Polly was nothing but a scheme Helen cooked up with Polly to embarrass or fleece him. Whether he actually believed so or not-at the very least it would get Helen to think twice about hugging Polly to her bosom on sight and perhaps ask some very obvious questions of Polly that needed asking.

Yeah, well, since all that did not happen. . . . Better did. Right up to the end. In true Sheri's style.

This was a fun little listen!
I did not exactly care for Polly's deception but could understand why she felt she had to lie.
I would still consider this a "clean" romance, there was nothing explicit. Though the discussion of a mouse or rat at the breakfast table was funny.
Poor Mr. Brundy wanted a honeymoon, alone, with his wife. He didn't exactly get it.
I love how Helen loves Ethan. I found Sir Aubry's love of Polly quite amusing as it seemed to surprise him.
The ending was perfect

The male narrator does a surprisingly good job with the different female characters.

Love this story

This is another great book. I laughed so hard at Helen. She loves her weaver so much. He is such a good husband. This is their honeymoon are it's supposed to be. The ending was fabulous. A surprise lady says she is the weaver's sister but he knows she is lying. Aubrey comes in and says he will get rid of her. Lady Helen takes a liking to the sister. Oh no what's gonna happen. I wonderful love story. I felt like I was there with them all. What a great author Mrs Cobb is. Love all her books and I've bought them all.

I liked this book. The narrator Noah Michael Lavine does a wonderful job with this book. I don't tend to read romance or historical books but I was gifted this book with the understanding I would leave an honest review. Honestly I really enjoyed the book. I am not sure I would have enjoyed it as much if I had read it and not listened to it. Noah really brought life to this story for me. I will look for more in this series if I can have them read to me :-)

I am really appreciating this series of short novels.

The characters really come out if the page, their witty bantering, their mannerisms entertain you in an irresistible way.

The writer keeps the rhythm high and alternates Tom com situations to emotional moments.

As the first one it is a fade to black romance but I noticed it only at the end and sincerely did not feel the lack of steam at all.

What a tangled web we weave

Orphaned Polly Hampton loses her employment at the bookstore when she refuses her employer's advances. Having overheard idle gossip in the bookshop, she attempts to pass herself off as Ethan Brundy's non-existent sister.

The highlight of the story, however, is Ethan and Helen's Brighton honeymoon with a houseful of guests.
