Moving Day!

Rate this book
Moving day has never been so much fun!

Moving day is never easy, especially when there are little kids around. Mom and Dad can really use big sister Danielle’s help in taking care the little kids. And she knows just how to keep them out of the way — pack them up with all of the stuff!

When the family arrives at their brand-new home, and the kids are unpacked — well, let’s just say that they are ready to take care of Danielle, too!

This story was inspired by a family that Robert Munsch once stayed with in Montreal, Quebec — which had five children and had moved to a new house only days before! This funny tale is for all kids, especially those who have dealt with the stress of a big move. And even more especially for those who have dreamt about turning the tables on an older sibling’s pranks.

Robert Munsch was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Fordham University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and from Boston University in 1971 with a Master of Arts degree in anthropology.

He studied to become a Jesuit priest, but decided he would rather work with children after jobs at orphanages and daycare centers. In 1973, he received a Master of Education in Child Studies from Tufts University. In 1975 he moved to Canada to work at the preschool at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario. He also taught in the Department of Family Studies at the University of Guelph as a lecturer and as an assistant professor. In Guelph he was encouraged to publish the many stories he made up for the children he worked with.

Munsch's wife delivered two stillborn babies in 1979 and 1980. Out of the tragedy, he produced one of his best-known books, Love You Forever. This book was listed fourth on the 2001 Publishers Weekly All-Time Best selling Children's Books list for paperbacks at 6,970,000 copies (not including the 1,049,000 hardcover copies). The Munsches have since become adoptive parents of Julie, Andrew and Tyya (see them all in Something Good!)

Munsch has obsessive-compulsive disorder and has also suffered from manic depression. In August 2008, Munsch suffered a stroke that affected his ability to speak in normal sentences. He has recovered enough that he is able to perform live, but has put his writing career on hold until he is fully recovered.

Moving day for anyone can be so stressful, but at least Danielle was trying to help her parents, even if she didn't completely understand what they meant when they told her to take care of her siblings.

I thought the plot was funny; I thought the ideas of packing the children in boxes was silly and fun. The ending was funny and expected.

There's nothing that stands out as completely amazing, but it's entertaining, and the kids will definitely like reading this one.

I did not find this book funny at all. The plot was a bit off from Robert Munsch's previous books. I just couldn't understand the plot or the reason why he chose the events he did.

It was moving day, and Danielle didn’t know what to do to help. Her mother told her to take care of her three younger siblings, so she did! When her mother commented on all of the children being so quiet, Danielle probably told her what she had done with them. Funny story and illustrations.
