From levers to pulleys, simple machines make our lives easier.
Rookie Read-About Physical Science series introduces the youngest readers to physical science concepts. Each book features critical-thinking questions throughout the text; a simple, hands-on experiment; a glossary and more. This series is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards. They help roll, lift, cut, tip, and turn everyday objects. In Simple Machines readers will dig into the science behind how we use simple machines to get the job done.
This was picked by my kindergartener at our library. The text was a bit too hard for his reading level, but he found the content extremely interesting. It defines machines as things that help do work. It covers things like wheels, pulleys, levers, screws, and wedges. It had simple questions to ask the kids (what do you turn a screw with, where is the axle here, does the pulley make it harder or easier to lift the bucket, etc) which my son enjoyed interacting with. The pages are laid out well and the design is uncluttered and bright. Good short intro book for engineering science topics.
