One of my favorite books when I was little. It's a large collection of stories, lots of Grimm and Anderson, but many other authors as well. The full-color illustrations (plates really) are numerous and very beautiful. I think this was the first time I read The Ugly Duckling and my inner emo child just loved it.

This book is exactly what the title says. Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, and the Grimm stories are all included, along with Aesop and Kipling. It is intended to be read by a parent or a a child in the third grade or older. There are only eight illustrations, which are beautiful old fashioned style paintings. The stories are older versions of the ones that children learn know. For example, Cinderella deserves to go to the ball because she is so kind and virtuous. She is even generous to her stepsisters in the end. This is the world before Disney.

I received this as a Christmas gift when I was 7 or 8. Recently, I wanted to find a book that had classic stories such as "Little Red Riding Hood," "Three Billy Goats Gruff," "Cinderella," "Hansel and Grettel," etc. I was thrilled when I remembered that I already had one! This is 463 pages of classic children's stories. Many are (or seem to be) different versions of the same story. Many I hadn't heard before. This even includes the history of the five pigs, what we're familiar with in the rhyme, "This little piggie went to market..." I'm happy I finally read everything in this book.

I can't believe this book was on here! It's always on my bookshelf just to remind me how much I loved it when I was a kid. Nice illustrations and original tales we all loved as kids. A fine book I will always have in my collection.

This collection of stories is really great. The stories are short and can be read in a few minutes. The kids understood the them and loved them.
