A M/M/M BDSM Romance.

Dare loves challenging convention.

As a Dom who looks more like a twink, Dare doesn’t mind second glances and getting people’s attention. Since he’s an exhibitionist and not shy at all, most of the time, he likes it. But when two hunky jocks spend their evening at a local club staring at him, with no intention of actually talking to him, he knows he might have found exactly who he’s looking for.

Scott and Ryan aren’t sure if they’re ready to challenge convention.

Carrying secrets is getting to be harder than Ryan and Scott ever imagined it would be, which is why they were almost ready to confess the things they’d worked so hard to keep private for years—especially from each other. But when Dare comes along and makes it clear he knows exactly what the sexy, muscular best friends are hiding, they have to decide if it’s worth coming out again for—because sometimes, it’s not just sexuality that gets hidden in a closet.
When one dominant almost-twink lands in the laps of two sexy, not-so-submissive-looking hunks, they each have to decide if they’re ready to take the next step and admit what they desperately want.

Author’s Note: This is the first book in The Weight of a Word series. Each book in the series will follow Dare, Ryan, and Scott as they explore their new relationship. Every book will have a HFN ending and will not end in cliffhangers. I have no idea how long the series will be. Have fun with my sweet guys.

Hmm, tough one to rate. I really loved the first half, but the relationship moved so glacially slow in the second half that I got bored and mostly wanted it to be over already. And this is also part 1 of a series about these 3 guys. So the idea that I have to read even more (sex) scenes with these three really doesn't appeal to me.

But…. the first half was REALLY good, so I’m not sure how to rate this. I think I would have loved this more if it was just this book about these guys, not an entire series. Things were unnecessarily slowed down I think to stretch this out over several books.

Scott and Ryan have been friends since high school. Both in the football team, they bonded pretty quickly. But it wasn’t until college that they both found out the other one was gay. Now they both have jobs and are still living together as roommates. They also go out to gay bars together to pick up guys, but somehow they’re both not that lucky in that department.

When Dare sees the two friends sitting at a table in the club he can’t believe his luck. As a dominant twink himself, he knows looks can be deceiving. And those two jocks scream submissive to him.

When Dare approaches Ryan and Scott, the two friends are dumbstruck. But Dare knows how to take charge and just invites himself to their table. When Dare gets Ryan and Scott to open up some more it is clear to Dare that neither has shared their submissive tendencies with the other. And when Dare tells them he wants to date both of them, Ryan and Scott are speechless again.

How can they all three date each other? And do Ryan and Scott want to be more than friends? And can they finally open up to one another about how they like to be bossed around in the bedroom….?

I really liked this when I started it. I love reading about people who don’t fit a certain stereotype. And having a dominant twink and two submissive jocks was soooooo good. But… I could see this is going to be a series and I think each book will mostly concentrate on the BDSM things they will get up to. And that’s where I lost interest. I think I’ve outgrown books with pages and pages of sex scenes where almost nothing happens.

So while I liked these guys together, and it will be interesting to see how they will make a three-way relationship work, I don’t think I will be reading the other books in this series if they’re all stretched out like the second half of this one was.

**** my heart is warm ****

One of my favourite authors has found yet another unconventional
relationship to put her suffering characters in.
Yet again she has managed to suprise me with the way the story unfolds.

" My big teddy bears "
This is how Dare feels every time he looks at Scott and Ryan.

Scott and Ryan are 2 hunky ex football players, all muscles and strength.
They are 2 close friends, who live together, socialise together, and don't need
anyone else in their lives. From the outside they look like a couple, like family.
While Scott and Ryan adore each other, they cannot see what they already have.
The fear of the other finding out their secret holds them back.
While both men are big alpha males, they long to free their desires to submit.
But who would beleive them, who could understand ?

Dare is a very confident young man, his small stature hides his strength.
He has no sexual discrimination, but loves a big strong man to push around.
To find the submissive of his fantasy is hard, but to find two is like jackpot.

Dare watches Scott and Ryan in a club, in a heart beat he can see their problem.
After he approaches both men, and literally lands in their lap, their whole world crumbles.
Dare can see into their troubled souls, he knows just how to get the two men to open up.
He makes them feel comfortable, and gives them what they needed to look and see each other.

My heart was breaking as each man tentatively opened up their hearts and confessed their desires.
l loved that Dare gave the two gentle giants the chance to be manhandled, and tender all at once.
When the three men finally got together it was tender, yet explosive, so damn hot.

Another very well written book,
another set of characters that made my heart sing,
so yes, more please....

I couldn't get into it. It didn't help that I was expecting something pretty steamy (so far, we have a little kissing), but that wasn't the only problem. Honestly, I was so bored that I couldn't even talk myself into finishing it for challenge purposes...and it would have worked for two!

Had there been more showing and less telling I'd have given this 4.5 stars. I liked it that much. I mean, there's a twink-ish Dom and two big, shy, muscle-bound, wannabe subs. What's not to love??

I really appreciate the time SM took to flesh out the characters' wants and desires, to make them own up to those feelings and talk to each other. And while there wasn't a lot of sex, what's here is pretty damned hot. I only wish it were longer. (Heh, that's what he said.)

Anywho, this is listed as the first of a series and I'm eagerly awaiting more!

This author is hit and miss for me. And while I like the setup with the characters here, this is just so slow going that I won't put myself through reading likely 2 more books to finish the story.

Scott and Ryan are both shy guys. They meet Dare, a muscular twinkish Top at a bar.
Dare approaches the pair knowing the guys want him but are to afraid to make the first move..

"I wasn't sure when the fantasies in my head had switched from sexy one night stands to waking up in their arms and planning a life together, but I wasn't going to chase them away."

I love how their relationship begins. They all decide to date each other. Dare tries to get these guys to open up to him and each other, to admit what is right in front of them.

"We were either going to be the most interesting people Dare had ever dated or the most boring. I wasn't sure which."

They are so cute in their cluelessness..

"I wasn't afraid of showing them they could have everything they'd ever dreamed of and more."

"No hitting, boys. If anyone gets to punish you, it's me."

Things between Ryan and Scott are adorably awkward. Both reluctant to be open and honest with each other. Both wanting the same thing with Dare but scared to be the first to take the initial step.

"I worried about what Scott would see on my face, but when Dare stretched up to kiss me, worries faded away. There were too many other incredible sensations to let fears take over."

I loved watching them learn each other, fighting their shyness and inhibitions. Finally being open with each other and the joy that it brings them all. They were so hot but sweetly sexy together.

"Shy on the outside but deliciously wicked on the inside."

"Dare gave me instructions already."
Dare loved giving instructions.
"What kind?"
"The good kind."

Scott and Ryan are becoming more comfortable with their new normal.

"I think everyday should start with a good-morning kiss"
"That's a rule I could get used to."

"I glanced around, trying to see Ryan's car. When I found him, I had to laugh. He was leaning against the hood of his car doing his best eighties movie pose, trying to seem cool.
He didn't need to worry about how he looked for me. I didn't need him cool... I just needed him."

"I think since your my boyfriend now I should get to pick the movies more often. I think that's a rule or something."
I reached out to run a hand up his arm. "I think you're making shit up."
"Possibly, but since we're in a relationship where rules are the norm, there's nothing to say I can't make up another one."
"I'm pretty sure I only agreed to rules about sex."

"I readily admitted to being a kinky Dom who enjoyed a variety of things, but there was nothing like being pressed against a big, muscular guy who wanted to submit.
Well, unless it was two big, muscular men who wanted to submit."

I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop and evolve. The alternating pov's gave great insight into each of the guys and how they were dealing with the relationship as it grew.
I can't wait to see more of them!!

I absolutely love it.
(I'm not a fan of threesome, menage or poly book)
The power exchange was awesome, not forced at all, felt natural.
Scott and Ryan are wonderful characters and different from each other. They are both big guy and sub but they want and need different things from their submissions. Dare is.. Something else!
It was a pleasure reading it. Can't wait for more!

I love that this author always gives us such unique and different pairings and kinks in her stories. This one features Dare, a Dom who looks more like a sub and twink, and Scott and Ryan, two best friends who both look like they should be bossy Doms but want nothing more than to kneel and have someone tell them what to do in bed.

Scott and Ryan are very close best friends, and neither knows what the other is craving in the bedroom, but Dare helps them be open and honest with each other about their wants - including, them wanting each other. The kink and BDSM is very mild in this book, I imagine that it might increase in future books as the three of them become more comfortable with each other. Right now, Dare is just trying to get Ryan and Scott to admit that they want each other and that they want to be submissive.

Very sweet and sexy beginnings between Dare, Ryan, and Scott, and I look forward to their next book! It doesn't end on a cliffhanger, but there is definitely plenty more that these guys could get up to!

I absolutely adored these three men. This story really looks at some really important questions in regards to masculinity and gender rolls. I really enjoyed how fun the story even while facing something potentially heavy. Watching these general giants wrap themselves around Dare’s sassy little finger is enjoyable from first to last!

That was cute, though I felt like Ryan wasn’t as included as he should have been. Too much of the focus was on Scott’s needs. Dare was great. I have to admit that I LOVE seeing a non-traditional (for romance novels) Dom. I wish I could find more books with toppy, dominant twinks.

Few things bothered me

The group dynamic threw me off. I went in thinking this would be a full on m/m/m relationship. Focusing on all three and having equal parts. This might just be me, but I honestly felt it was more of a m/m with a side of m. Scott was always the main focus of Dare and that bothered me when it was supposed to be a three way relationship. Ryan seemed like an after thought through this whole thing and it made me sad for him and a little pissed.

There's nothing hotter than a twink Dom and two big jock subs!
Scott and Ryan didn't thought they would ever find the kind of relationship they secretly craved... Until they met Dare, and find out that both of them had the same secret desires... A friendship that turned into so much more than any of them expected.
All they needed was a firm had and a controlling twink to show then the way to happiness...

A wonderful and HOT story - LVOED IT

Ugh, another menage book that I hated. It wasn't necessarily the trio itself that I hated, although that part wasn't my favorite either. I only enjoyed one character, and that was Scott.

Dare was fine, but he was a little too perfect if that makes sense. Like, they just met and from the first second, he can make two huge (think football player) guys that have been hiding the fact that they're subs from each other and the world agree to be in a relationship with him and each other and have them dom him, no questions asked? No.

Ryan is still a mystery to me. So.

On top of that, the writing was juvenile. There was no character depth at all; no explanations as to why they were the way they were. Everything was very surface level and boring. Just plain old boring. How is a BDSM MMM D/s book boring?

Hard pass on this one if I were you.

IF YOU SEE THIS, PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR FEEDBACK ON MY NEW RATING AND REVIEW SYSTEM. IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD ADD, CHANGE OR REMOVE TO IMPROVE IT? PLEASE AND THANK YOU, LOVELY READERS.

**Level of Smut is referring to how to tame vs explicit it is, which is why I went with this rating system. THIS IS NOT A RATING ON HOW MUCH I LIKED THE SMUT. Kissing and/or making out does not count as smut. Also, when I say ‘sex scene’, if someone has an orgasm, I’m considering it a sex scene; no matter how they get there. G (Score of 1) - No smut PG (2) - 1 sex scene books PG- 13 (3) - 2 sex scene books
R (4)- Your standard 3 sex scene book. These generally aren’t as long of sex scenes or as descriptive.
X-Rated (5) - all the good stuff is in here, baby, and a hell of a lot of it. This would also mean that the story is extremely descriptive, as well.

*** Quality of Smut is referring to how well the smut is written, according to my tastes. I have certain words and kinks, etc, that I am not a fan of and will automatically drop it down if I see it. That may not be the same case for you. I’ll try to include my reasoning if there’s anything specific. (A+ = 5 - E = 1)

**** Did it Make Me Sweat ;) ? Tbh, did it turn me on? Did I want to read more and more sex scenes (The answer is almost always yes)? This is different from quality because of the simple fact that the smut doesn’t ALWAYS have to be A+ quality to make me sweat… or does it??? I guess we’ll see.

Anyone who is a fan of M.A. Innes / Shaw Montgomery, will absolutely love this book and the hot, cute, sexy, sweet guys.

We have two Hot Jocks that are best friends. Both happen to not only be submissive, but neither of them has picked up on the others submissive tendencies.

We have a hot cute twink (ish) Dom, who knows what he wants and how to get it.

So, their journey to self-discovery and discovering each other’s wants and needs starts when Dare wonders over to chat with Scott and Ryan, after watching them eyeing him up and talking about him (He is good at lip reading). Deciding he would have to make the first move.

He soon realises that the two big strong muscled jocks are bashful about what they want and at the beginning it feels like pulling teeth, getting them to open up.

They slowly deal with their wants and needs separately with Dare, who must navigate them to confiding in each other. So, you can imagine their shock when the penny finally drops.

What follows is a lot of tenderness and patience, oh and quite a bit of teasing from Dare who finds his two gentle giants adorable, especially when they blush or when they bashfully tell him what they need.

I Like the way Dare, Ryan and Scott, turn the stereo types of Doms and Subs upside down. Showing that size really does not matter, at least when it comes to be a Dom or sub. All three are relieved to have finally found in each other what they want.

Scott and Ryan get off on being under Dare’s control and submitting to him and his pleasure. For Dare, he not only enjoys their submission and trust, but he likes to give them both what they need and unable to directly ask for. He likes to make them sour and loose control of themselves to the pleasure he feeds them.

The way the author has written the sex scenes has made them feel natural and includes all three of them in a hot and sexy way.

I loved this book from start to finish. All three characters are beautiful and individual, Each needing something from the other two.

So US is book one of what will hopefully be a very long series, hint, hint (Shaw lol).

Us is the first book in Shaw Montgomery's The Weight Of A Word Series. It is classic Shaw, and is sure to entertain.

Scott and Ryan have long been best friends, but when Dare enters their life, everything changes. The way their relationship evolves is fun, as they decide to all date each other, with a memorable first date.

Have I mentioned I love a good menage? No, well, I do. Love them!

I find Dare's confidence in the situation to be quick, but also perfect for the situation. It's definitely fun to explore a twink being dominant. As well, it's exciting to see a big strong guy as a submissive. Honestly, Scott and Ryan are so niave and awkward, making them so darn adorable!

Dare's relationship with his mother is awesome, resulting in some great humor. They are so open with each other that it's staggering, and funny!

As for Dare, wow, love him. He is fascinating in his ability to be so upfront about what he wants. And he's exquisite in way the helps Scott and Ryan open up about their needs.

This story contains some great steamy scenes, some BDSM scenes, and the enjoyable beginnings of a potentially amazing relationship. The exploration and self-discovery of the men is well done, with all the hesitancy and pleasure.

Shaw Montgomery is well known for this nitch in the M/M romance world, and Us is a wonderful start of what hopes to be a marvelous series.

PLEASE READ FIRST MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings (thanks to amazon I had to change it again and 'upgrade' it a little bit.
My old 3* is now a 3,5* and clicked with a 4*):

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-
Away-book like 'Liberty' from Seth King,
'Save the kids' series from EM Leya or
'Jesse's Smile' from Angelique Jurd), it's like
an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a
WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises
(like most of Andrew Grey books) it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few
times (most romances where you can enjoy
for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, but
not really an often reread book

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-
reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but
it was ok) It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too
many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an
absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole
line, dismissed, repeat the class

Power arcing from below doubles in strength (and pleasure)
gay-male/male/male menage D/s (light BDSM) romance

This is a nicely heated story of two large, muscular gay men sing picked up by a very Dominant, smaller man together. These two vanilla tops who are long time best friends as close as brothers, but their new hook-up soon recognizes their very positive reactions to being dominated and to being with each other.. There is a nice balance of tension, chemistry, character, as their the beau/loverDom builds a light D/s relationship with the two as part of a trio.

What I found particularly appealing is breaking the stereotypes - the very large, muscular men submit to the much smaller man. (This meshes perfectly with their personalities, but even then it’s difficult for them to admit.) in addition, while Dare is in some way versatile (like most queer men), he also has plenty of a power bottom vibe and behavior at times. All of these - small stature Doms, large/muscular subs, and power bottoms - are not that uncommon in the real world, but don’t appear ver often in the fictional literature (especially the romance genre). It’s nice to see some representation beyond a specific stereotypical ideal.

Smaller Dom/larger sub, power bottom, friends-to-lovers, roommates-to-lovers

Shaw Montgomery really excelled at an intriguing and unique concept. From the beginning I was absolutely hooked on it. I wanted to see how the author unfolded the story.

The character development was excellent. I love all three of the male characters. There were excellent interactions between each of them, not to mention the chemistry when all three were together. I love the author's ability to show things messy, for it not to be perfection right from the start and to let the characters go on a journey. The world building was solid though I'm hoping it becomes a little more detailed as the series goes along. That would have strengthened it and added some overall depth.

The overall story had some good development. I especially loved the author's use of subtly. It was more than I expected based on the blurb and topic. My only issue was the pacing. It felt way too slow in the beginning. I enjoy buildup but this bordered on some repetition. I lowered the score to 4 stars due to that. However, this is a series I definitely want to continue. I want to know more about these characters' journey.

Yes, this book is a menage, and yes it is BDSM but it’s on the light side (spanking, picking safe words, discussing bondage, mentioning punishments and rewards, etc.).

The M/M/M relationship was starting to come out of the ‘clunky’ stage when the book ended. I’m glad there will be another because the one sex scene at the end was pretty hot. I rather liked that Dare used Ryan as the tool to get Scott off. I am hoping that the next book, Scott will be the tool to get Ryan off.

I also enjoyed that Ms Montgomery was going against stereotypes in this book (Twink looking Dom and ‘Alpha’ looking Subs.

The only thing that ‘bothered me’ was that Ryan & Scott seemed to blend together in my mind. I couldn’t seem to separate them and while they were described as being different from each other, I gave up trying to remember who was which character.

5 plus stars.. So when I read the blurb of this I immediately knew this would be different to anything I'd read, I couldn't resist. I loved the way they meet and what happens next with the texty banter with Ryan. Although I was curious to what Scott was thinking at what was happening with all of them. This is a gorgeous story of best friends who live together and not realising what in front of them and only needing a third. A sentence in this about tricycle was summed up perfectly for the three. It did seen that Scott got the main attention but it worked out how they'd fit together by the ending with a great scene.. Yah I'd re-read this again.
When Ryan and Scott (schoolyard best friends) spotted a hot guy in a gay bar they'd hoped he be on their team. Darren aka Dare a bi twink Dom had noticed the two and went over to them.

WOW, what a beginning!

This story is such a unique spin. Not only is it a male menage but it is two large men who wish to be submissive, not dominant and a smaller man who is the dominant one of the trio. Because they've usually been stuck in a stereotypical relationship in the past with the bigger men needing to act as the dominant, they haven't been happy. And, although they've been really good, deep friends for many years they didn't once think of getting together mainly because they were struggling with wanting to be controlled by their lover and knew that the other didn't really want to do that. But when they met the third smaller man who loved to dominate larger men all came together for all three. This ends in a HFN but the author warns you of that at the start as she is planning on continuing their story in additional books. I can't wait to see what's next!

I haven't read a lot by this author, but everything reads pretty much the same. This reminded me a lot of Accidental Master, which I liked, but instead of having two subs that are already in a relationship and know what they like and know each other, we get two super shy, awkward guys who are best friends and don't know that the other is also a sub. And they are really oblivious about it.

It takes them half the book to fess up to each other, and that is while they both are dating Dare, the twinky Dom, all the time. So while I usually like the cute, shy Subs and sweet, slow narration, this time it was simply too much for me. It just strained my suspension of disbelieve too much that they could be that dense and all the fretting and angsting about how their friend would take the revelation that they liked submission started to grate on my nerves.

I got into it more once they get that part out of the way and the length sex scenes start, so I still have hopes that I might like the second part of the series better.

Slow and steaming hot

Shaw has put together a beautifully crafted, touching and erotic exploration of a new and developing relationship between three gorgeous and sexy lovers. Two confused and needy submissives that find in Dare the Dom that they both did not realise they needed. Shaw has deliciously drawn out the melding of Scott, Ryan and Dare's relationship cleverly illustrated with the emphasis on communication of desire, need and permission that is so crucial in any Dom/sub relationship. I would encourage anyone wanting to explore a bdsm or Dom/sub relationship to read this book as well as keep an open mind to the right Dom/Master, not all are as good as Dare. Keep in mind, abuse is not dominance.

I loved this book! The majority of the story concerned what was going on in each man's head. Dare was very comfortable and confident in his dominant role, despite his smaller stature. He was sexy and very much in charge. Scott and Ryan were macho guys who had secret desires they were afraid to share with each other. They had so much in common that they already knew about, it should not have been such a surprise to them that there were feelings beneath the surface that they shared as well.
The story was definitely sexy, but I felt that it was primarily focused on Ryan and Scott, with Dare's guidance and support, becoming more comfortable with their own desires and becoming brave enough to share those desires with their best friend. I really enjoyed going along for the ride.

I readily admitted to being a kinky Dom who enjoyed a variety of things, but there was nothing like being pressed against a big, muscular guy who wanted to submit. Well, unless it was two big, muscular men who wanted to submit.

This was adorable and sweet. I liked Scott and Ryan's dynamic - both wanting the opposite of what their size and appearance would dictate, and both hiding it from the other. I like that Dare swoops in already confident and ready to help his boys get comfortable with what they want.

While I love the lack of drama and tension as the relationship progresses.... I wanted a tiny but more conflict. Just something to keep the book from being all fluff. I am intrigued to read the next one though!

I thoroughly enjoyed the journey the author took us on while the 3 MCs (Dare, Scott, and Ryan) navigated their new relationship.

Dare, is a Dom who looks like a twink. While Scott and Ryan, are big burly men who have submissive tendencies.

Scott and Ryan don’t realize how alike they are. In the book Dare carefully helps Ryan and Scott to understand their sexual desires. Most importantly, Dare tries to show Scott and Ryan how all 3 men can fit in a relationship.

The love between Scott and Ryan is SOOOO SWEET! But Dare isn’t a 3rd wheel, he’s kinda the glue holding this trio together.

So worth a read but just understand there aren’t any steamy scenes until the end, but it’s worth the wait.
