Daphne Templeton returns in the fifth book in the Lucky Paws Petsitting mystery series by Bethany Blake. In this latest book, Daphne’s sister Piper is getting married. Their mother insists on hiring a wedding planner who plans an extravagant wedding. When the wedding planner is found strangled with a garter, Daphne sleuths to find the killer.

This book is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. I’ve only read one other book in this series, but I do plan to go back and read the others. It’s a cute cozy mystery series that has a small town setting, fun characters, and plenty of animals. Daphne is accompanied by her basset hound, Socrates, on her adventures. For the cat lovers out there, Daphne also has a cat and her pet sitting job in this book is for a cat.

One of the characters in this book is named Dorinda, so I thought that was cool. Not the same spelling as my name, but close enough. What made it even better was Dorinda’s mother’s name was Beverly. That’s my mother’s name. Weird coincidence.

A cozy mystery with humor and romance. A fun series for fans of cozy mysteries, especially cozies involving pets. I look forward to reading more of this series.

I received a free eARC of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Since this series is one of my go-to-series I read it at once and found another good addition to the Lucky Paws Pet Sitting. It was good to see what Daphne Templeton and her for friends Socrates and Tinkerman are up to. Daphne's affair with the Homicide detective, Jonathan Black is getting serious except he is at a special assignment in San Diego, California. Socrates is very happy as his special friend Snowball is living away from him. Tinkerman as had to accept another cat, Ms. Peebles at the cottage. The latter made some funny scenes.
Piper, Daphne's sister is getting married and their Mother's are planning an elaborate wedding and have hired a Wedding Planner who disappears just before the wedding. Daphane is determined that Piper is married on time. As she finds the wedding planner submerge in a nearby pond. When Jonathan tells Daphne he cannot be involved because of their relationship, she is dismayed. Can the pair have long-distance romance?
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND SERIES.
Recipes for Pet treats are included.

Disclosure: Thanks Kensington Books for a copy through NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Piper and Roger are getting married in the most over the top ceremony ever! An Independence Day theme complete with Statue of Liberty bridesmaids dresses, all thanks to the mothers of the bride and groom taking control. Too bad they couldn’t control keeping the pushy wedding planner alive. Abigail Sinclair is dead, dead, dead, floating in the fountain and it appears that the murder weapon was a borrowed blue garter.

Now maid of honor Daphne takes on getting her sister wed before Roger leaves the country and finding a killer since Roger seems to be at the top of the suspect list. Will the nuptials take place? They sure will! Even if Daphne has to shoot off a few fireworks of her own.

Daphne Templeton, her lovable basset hound Socrates, and her prickly Persian cat Tinkleston return in this delightful cozy mystery penned by Bethany Blake. Boyfriend Detective Jonathan Black is away on assignment working with an NCIS team in California but has promised to return to take part in the wedding. Daphne’s sister Piper is caught up in all the wedding drama as is Roger who hasn’t been a fan of wedding planner Abigail Sinclair since his mother and Piper’s hired her. Jonathan’s Chocolate Labrador, Axis, Chihuahua, Artie, along with Daphne’s best friend Moxie Bloom and her pet white rat named Sebastian also return. All the characters are well-developed and feel like old friends.

Ms. Blake wraps these wonderful characters in a mystery that kept me guessing right up until the end. Abigail Sinclair ticked off plenty of people, especially with her latest fiasco so it is not surprising someone wanted to take her down. She had a grand plan until someone nixed it permanently. I enjoyed each and every twist thrown in Daphne’s path and was utterly astounded when we reached the big whodunit reveal. The author brought in some elements from the past in an interesting way that played a big part.

Romance took a larger role in this installment, I mean it did include a wedding, but it was more than that. I can’t say more to avoid spoilers but the ending left me smiling ear to ear.

Fabulous characters, awesome pets, and a marvelous mystery! Bethany Blake takes readers on a Perfect Escape! Something Borrowed, Something Mewed is fun and entertaining, and a great way to spend a couple of evenings. I can’t wait to return to Sylvan Creek!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book!

I was so excited to see I was approved for this book! I adore this series, and I couldn't wait to see what Daphne and her gang of small town friends and family were up to this time. I love everything about this series; the mystery is always good, the theme of petsitting stands out, and the romance is super sizzling, especially considering the love interest's name is one of my major turn offs (whe you know someone in real life and all you do is picture them instead of the character...yeech!) but he is so sweet with his rescue dogs, and so awesome for Daphne!

This was over far too soon, and although I NEVER read sneak peeks, there is one for Bethany's new series out in November! I will definitely be reading that, because I loved this series so much (I hope it isn't over, either?) ^_^ a great cozy, check it out!

3-1/2 stars.

Another enjoyable entry in this cozy mystery series. I especially liked the fact that Daphne was made out as a little less of a bumbling fool in this book and finally has a damn phone with her most of the time (that was a big stickler for me in this day and age).

Daphne's sister Piper is getting married in this book, but when the event planner turns up dead and the groom is a possible suspect, Daphne decides to play detective again.

I liked the progression of Daphne and Jonathan's relationship in this book and always love to hear about the antics of the pets that are woven into each story.

This is a great series for anyone who likes animals, quirky characters, and light mysteries that don't include blood and guts or graphic violence.

Honestly guys I think this series just keeps getting better for me. So a wedding is being planned in Sylvan Creek and while the bride isn't really in favor of the planned 4th of July themed nuptials, she sure didn't want the wedding planner to die. And when the husband of the bride is one of the prime suspects, Daphne takes it upon herself to start investigating again in order to help out her sister.

This installment once again has some of our favorite characters - people and pets. We have Daphne's best friend, Moxie and her pet rat as well as Detective Black and his two dogs. And I have to admit he was really ticking me off at times. Socrates, Daphne's trusted Basset is present and is worried that his poodle girlfriend might have to leave town because her mom's business might fail. There is also Ms. Peebles, the deceased's cat who is forced to make peace with Tinkerton once Daphne takes her home with her. And we even get some new characters and a wonderful new pet pig. So you can understand why I like Sylvan Creek so much.

The mystery aspect is interesting as well. There are several suspects and it wasn't until the very end that I suspected how it was all going to play out. "Something Borrowed, Something Mewed" introduces us to a new business which is going to have it's own series - The Owl and Crescent Mysteries. I'm thrilled to have more of this quaint little which has the promise of some paranormal aspects and lots of pets.

If you enjoy cozy mysteries you need to pick up this series. It is one of my all-time favorites and I'm just hoping there are more to come!

I absolutely loved this book! Ok, maybe it has something to do with the ending, but the mystery was really good, since it had to do with Daphne's sister Piper getting married and her wedding planner getting killed. There were plenty of suspects, but the bad thing was that Jonathan Black wasn't on this case. He was working on temporary job out in California for the Navy, and he would have had to step aside from a conflict of interest seeing how Piper's fiance was one of the suspects.

I just love how Daphne ends up with yet another dead person's animal. She's not only a magnet for dead bodies, she loves pets and can't say no to to an animal needing a home, even if it's just temporary. Out of the five books, she's somehow inherited three animals, one of which does have a good home now, but Tinks the cat stayed with her, and now there's Ms. Peebles. It's so cute to read about Socrates and Snowdrop having a crush on one another (Snowdrop was the poodle Daph rescued in book 4). I think Socrates is one of the most awesome dogs in the cozy world. He just snuffles and grunts, but has his own little communication with his Daphne. He even managed to get the police where they needed to be.

Even though these books are always well-explained and readers can catch up and read them stand alone, I would highly recommend reading in order, especially if the Jonathan/Daphne relationship is important to you, like it is to me. All I can say is if you love that coupling, you'll love this book! I've already preordered the sixth book.

SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING MEWED, the fifth book in the Lucky Paws Petsitting Mystery series by Bethany Blake, is another terrific addition to one of my favorite series in publication. A wedding planner out of control, competing mother-of-the-bride and mother-of-the-groom, adorable dogs galore, and a Harley-riding bridesmaid with a pet pig… Ms. Blake provides a rollicking tale that had me laughing out loud many times. Not only does she weave many humorous situations into a tightly plotted mystery, but she has a creative touch with pun-y business names and pet puns to fit the theme. In addition to an entertaining story, the author has endearing characters like protagonist Daphne Templeton. She’s a free-spirted young woman who holds a PhD in Philosophy, but she’s settling down and has opened a petsitting business and an organic pet treat bakery, Flour Power, in her home town. The characters are like catching up with old friends: both comforting and exciting to find out what’s been happening in their lives. Not only are the human characters well-developed, the four-footed furry friends are just as charming. I know I’ve said it before, but I adore the protagonist’s sidekick Basset hound, Socrates. He has a personality that is just as delightful as any human sidekick and I love each scene he is in.

When Daphne finds the wedding planner murdered on the eve of her sister’s wedding, she needs to step in and calm the bride and groom’s nerves. Except she finds out the groom doesn’t have an alibi, but his bride-to-be, Daphne’s sister, believes in his innocence. The author effortless weaves in the clues and subplots and kept me turning pages long into the night to find out “what happens next.” There were twists and turns in the mystery that I didn’t see coming along with the twists with Daphne’s romantic interest, Detective Jonathan Black. Yet in the end, the threads of the characters and the story are brought together into a satisfying, heartwarming conclusion…that once again has me waiting impatiently for the next book to release.

Ms. Blake includes several cat treat recipes at the back of the book along with a recipe for humans.

Review:

The characters are well developed and well rounded. Daphne is a busy person, running her Lucky Paws petsitting business and Flour Power, her pet bakery. But that does not stop her from becoming involved in a murder investigation. When her sister Daphne’s, fiance, Roger, is a person of interest in a murder investigation, she is determined to find the real culprit. I enjoy any time I get to spend with Daphne and her family (except her mother), friends and boyfriend. Moxie, Daphne’s best friend, is quirky and unusual, and I love it. And Socrates, her basset hound, is one of my favorite book animals of all time. I love the way that Daphne and him communicate.

The writing style flows smoothly and it defines the characters very clearly through their actions and words. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and this description pulled me into the story from the very beginning. I felt like I was right there in Sylvan Creek, Pennsylvania, watching all of the action taking place and listening in on conversations.

The mystery was well plotted and tightly woven. There were plenty of suspects to consider and clues to sift through and it was not easy to solve, which is how I like my mysteries.

I would highly recommend this book (and series) to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. Whenever I have a new book to read in the Lucky Paws Petsitting series, I know I am in for a great treat.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

I received a free copy of this book through Netgalley and voluntarily reviewed it.

I just love this series, it's one of my favorite cozy mystery series. And every time a new book arrives I am excited to follow Daphne and her dog Socrates on another adventure where they solve a murder mystery. In this book her sister Piper is getting married, but things take a turn for the worse when the wedding planner turns up death.

I liked the mystery in this one. At times it felt like we had all the pieces, but they didn't make sense yet. And other times I felt like I was missing an important piece. I wasn't sure who to suspect as no one seemed quite right and then the reveal of who did it was great. It made sense looking back, but it was a great reveal learning how it all happened. I also liked how the whole mystery progressed with Daphne right in the middle of it and figuring out what happened and revealing secrets and uncovering truths along the way.

I really enjoyed this book and I liked how besides the mystery there are also enough other plot lines going on. Piper and Roger's wedding is an important part of this book, as well as Roger's mysterious sister, Daphne and Jonathan hit some struggles when he has to go to another place for work, then there is the upcoming pet event where they go on the lake with boats and costumes. It's a lot of fun and I like seeing all the plot lines progress throughout the book to be wrapped up with a great finale at the end.

This series also has a great group of characters. I really like Daphne, who is curious and gets involved in the mysteries. I like how she cares about her friends, humans and animals alike. She's great to read about. Then we have the usual cast of side character from Jonathan Black to Daphne's best friend Moxie, as well as Daphne's mom and sister and ofcourse Socrates and a bunch of other pets like Snowdrop, Artie, Axis and Little Tim. The amount of characters grows with each book and I like how side characters and animals we met in previous books continue to play a role. This series has an awesome amount of continuity. I also like how there are new side characters we meet in each book and some I wonder if we'll continue to see in later books.

And it has one of my favorite romances in cozy mysteries. Daphne and Jonathan are so great together and I loved seeing them as a couple in this book and how they deal with their first struggles as a couple. Jonathan will really do a lot for her and I think Daphne is slowly starting to realize that.

To summarize: There's just something about this series that's so fun! The pet crazy town, the pets and the characters who come to life and the awesome mysteries. The mystery in this one was a great one. I really liked the reveal and how it all made sense and fell on it's place. I had a hard time settling on a suspect in this case as none of them seemed quite right, like we were missing a piece of the story, which makes sense in the end. I enjoyed reading about Daphne again in this book and the awesome group of side characters, both humans and pets. I am quite fond of the amount of continuity and how characters that got introduced in previous books continue to play a role. I also liked the romance in this one and seeing Daphne and Jonathan as a couple finally. Besides the well done mystery, there are also a bunch of other side plot lines that are woven throughout the book. All in all another awesome read in this series and I can't wait for the next book!

Daphne's sister is getting married and their mother has gone momzilla on the whole affair. She hires the most premiere wedding planner around and they decide on a theme of Independence Day. Their is so much infighting happening that Daphne can't wait for the whole occasion to be over with, she love her sister but it is all becoming just to much. Daphne is happy to sit on the side lines and let everyone else decide on everything, she is happy to cat sit for the wedding planner. When Abby, the wedding planner, ends up dead strangled by a garter things don't look good for the wedding. Will Daphne be able to jump in and get everything organized for her sisters big day. While keeping her sisters wedding on track will she be able to figure out who killed Abby and why? Follow along as Daphne tries to track down a killer and keep her sisters big day from turning into a downer. This was my first book from this series and I can say I caught on to who the characters were easily. I was able to follow along without any trouble and look forward to going back to the beginning so my take on who everyone is and the parts they play in the books becomes keener. This was a fun read filled with wonderful characters and a lovely setting.

Something Borrowed, Something Mewed is the fifth installment in the Lucky Paws Petsitting Mystery series featuring Daphne Templeton and her philosophical basset hound, Socrates. Things are buzzing in Sylvan Creek as preparations are under way for the upcoming wedding between Daphne's sister Piper and her fiance, Roger. Unfortunately, the girls mother Maude has hired event planner Abigail Sinclair, who has decided on an over the top Fourth of July themed wedding complete with bridesmaid dresses resembling the Statue of Liberty.

Daphne also is tasked with pet sitting for Abigail's feline, Ms. Peebles. The little feline always seems to be caught in precarious situations and constantly needs rescuing so when Daphne goes to check on the cat and can't find her she begins searching through Abigail's house and stumbles across Abigail's body submerged in the courtyard fountain.

With her boyfriend Detective Jonathan Black away in California on an assignment and determined not to let his partner Detective Fred Doebler once again accuse one of her family or friends of murder, Daphne sets out with Socrates to track down a killer. Nosing around it doesn't take long to discover that Abigail wasn't running her event planning business on the up and up, and plenty of suspects emerge including the groom's uncle, Brother Alf Sievers, who runs a monastery, Daisy Carpenter who owns the local eatery, In a Pickle, and is the human handler of Snowdrop (Socrates girlfriend) and Abigail's own employees.

A hilarious and delightful romp from the first page to the last, this latest installment solidifies the series as my absolute favorite in the cozy genre. Perfect mysteries, the number one canine companion, a cast of critters including cats, a rat and a mini pig and just the right touch of romance between the humans (and pets) I strongly encourage everyone to take a trip to Sylvan Creek.

I received an advanced copy of Something Borrowed, Something Mewed from NetGalley via Kensington Publishing. While not required to write a review I am more than happy to offer my honest opinion.

Daphne's sister Piper is getting married in a lavish, over-the-top red, white and blue extravaganza, hosted by Maeve Templeton and Roger's mother Beverly Berendt. The wedding, planned by top wedding planner, Abigail Sinclair, is not exactly what Piper and Roger wanted but to keep the peace they're willing to go along with it. Abigail then strong-arms Daphne into cat sitting her accident prone cat Ms. Peebles. When Daphne comes to check on the cat the day after a rainstorm interrupted the bridal shower, Daphne discovers Abigail's dead body. With Jonathan away, Detective Doebler is in charge and he is firmly convinced Roger is the murderer! Daphne knows her mild-mannered brother-in-law-to-be couldn't possibly kill anyone. As chief bridesmaid, Daphne plans on giving Piper the wedding of her dreams before Roger has to fly to England for a teaching job. This, of course, means dealing with Roger's wayward sister Dorinda, also a suspect and perhaps asking a few questions here and there. When Jonathan returns, he tries hard to help make Piper's dreams come true and help Daphne solve the case. Their relationship has reached a turning point now. Will Daphne, who doesn't hesitate to question murder suspects, face her fears or run from her feelings?

Now this was an interesting mystery. I thought I had it all figured out by 20%. I read to 40% and skipped to the end to see how the relationship plot worked out before going to sleep. Was I ever surprised when a late plot twist showed me just how wrong my assumption was! I never, ever, saw that coming. I never suspected a thing. The murderer's motive made sense but not framing of the other suspects. The relationship drama was a little too realistic for me but the open ended ending was nice. The series can conclude or continue in a different direction.

I liked all the local color in the story. This one is less focused on a specific festival and shows more of the small town charm. I like the biker bar with pet pig, the Owl and Crescent Art Barn for wine and paint nights, the Tiny-tanic and ESPECIALLY what's down Crooked Creek Lane!

Daphne is growing on me in terms of her sleuthing. She's trying to stay out of it this time and share what she thinks she knows with Detective Doebler. She just wants to help her sister, which is very sweet. Her anxieties about her relationship seem out of character given that she's a philosopher. It takes her sister to explain to her why she's overreacting. As a character, I find Daphne kind of annoying. I can relate to and love her compassion for animals but why did she give Snowdrop away after her mother and Jonathan moved heaven and earth to get Snowdrop back? It sounded like Tinkleston and Snowdrop had come to an understanding and of course Socrates is in doggy love with Snowdrop. The one thing I do really like about Daphne in this book is that she's trying hard to make her sister happy. Jonathan is a swoonworthy love interest! He's smart, kind, thoughtful, romantic, a dog lover and SEXY! I was rooting for him. I just love how he indulges little Artie's whims even though Axis is more his kind of dog.

Other recurring characters include Moxie, Daphne's stuck-in-the-past best friend. I still find her annoying. I don't understand her. She's a bit naive still. I still find it hard to believe she's still in love with Mike from high school but I hope it works out. Piper, Daphne's no-nonsense sister, acts uncharacteristically flustered. She's stressed out about Roger leaving and wanting to be married to him before he has to go away. She lets her awful mother call the shots. Maeve annoys the heck out of me. Piper needs to learn to stand up to her mother. Fidelia Tutweiler, the third bridesmaid, is still mousy and meek. She wants to find love but she keeps falling for men who won't see her true worth. She needs someone chivalrous and kind like Jonathan and Roger. Detective Doebler, Jonathan's partner, is an egotistical jerk. He's quick to try to solve the crime and gain the glory but still needs to bounce ideas of Jonathan. Doebler has a grudge against Daphne and takes it out on her family and friends. She can't help being more intelligent than he is.

The dogs are the best! Zen Basset Hound Socrates is imbued with human emotions and characteristics but it's cute. Artie is my absolute favorite! He is super cute and goofy! I love how he loves dressing up and how Jonathan took him to see the sea lions in California. Artie is so sweet. Tiny Tim doesn't have a huge role in this story but he has some cameos. He's so adorable! Snowdrop is no longer the mean, prissy girl she once was. She's come around and become comfortable in her new home. The cats don't appeal to me as much. Tinkleston is angry and mean while Ms. Peebles is always scared and getting into weird places.

Newcomers here are locals known to Daphne and her family. Abigail Sinclair, wedding planner from hell, was nasty, rude, and really bad at planning weddings anyone would want as their dream wedding. I'm not surprised someone killed her but which one did it? Roger's mother, Beverly Berendt is just like Maeve. On closer inspection, they're only superficially alike. Maeve is a better mother. Beverly doesn't care about her "wayward" daughter and her daughter's happiness. I quite like Dorinda. She has a chip on her shoulder but she loves her brother very much. She should be free to live her life the way she wants. I don't believe she's a murderer. Laci Chalmers, wedding photographer turned reporter is not really a nice person either. The things she chooses to write in the paper are full of speculation and not true. Laci has a motive to kill Abigail. Abigail's assistant, Dexter Shipley puts up with everything Abigail does. He's a complicated character and I'm not sure if I like him or not. "Brother" Alf Sievers, the groom's uncle, is head of a local monastic cult known for their zithers and sourdough bread. Religious cult leaders are always suspect. I would run far away from Brother Alf. He's weird, cult notwithstanding yet he seems like a kind-hearted man, in his own way. If he murdered Abigail it was because she was a nasty blackmailer or something of the type. Daisy Carpenter, Snowdrop's new person, is new in town. She's a cook about to open a new restaurant when Abigail forces her to cater the wedding. Daisy has a big secret. I guessed what happened right away and didn't think it was anything to blackmail anyone about. Stuff happens. In spite of Daisy being on edge and her tough personality, I rather like her and don't want her to be a murderer. She doesn't have an alibi though.

Overall, I'm glad the library closure forced me to finish this series. I enjoyed most of them and would recommend them to those who like A Pawsitively Organic Mystery and other similar pet themed cozy mysteries. There are some recipes for pet friendly food in the back of the book.

This story leads into a spin-off series set in the next town over. You can read the sample chapter but I didn't choose to do so.

Very disappointed in this latest Daphne book! The description for book 6 coming out reveals a major spoiler for this read; so unfortunately I new the big twist at the end. There were several "frosty beer" moments and one reference to a woman possibly having a girlfriend and one use of profanity. There was an over-abundance of romance and relationship drama that just persisted the entire book. It also didn't help that I didn't like the ending and the direction the next book will inevitably take.

Welcome back to Sylvan Creek, a quaint, lakeside village where animals are treasured, valued and celebrated. It is also home to our protagonist, Pet sitter Daphne Templeton and her twin sister Piper. Piper is getting married, but it seems their mother hired the wedding planner from Hades. Nothing is going right and when her dead body is found in her fountain, the hunt for the killer is on. Daphne wants the wedding to happen, albeit late and in a different place, so she works behind the scenes with her friends to try to put together a new wedding.

I really enjoy this series, probably because of the animals. Daphne is not only a magnet for dead bodies, but for orphaned animals as well. She usually finds a new home for them, but they remain an integral part of the stories. Her dog, Socrates, is wonderful. He is a basset hound with soulful eyes, but he is her sounding board and she can read his expressions and feelings. This story has the pets and their owners participating in a row boat regatta, complete with costumes, and you know that will just have problems where Daphne is concerned. She also has a cat named Tinks and and rescues another cat in this story. The animals always play an important part in the mystery. The mystery itself has a few suspects and some red herrings, but I had not figured out the culprit before it was revealed to us in the story. It had a twist at the end which surprised me, but fit the story well. Throw in a bit of angst as Daphne's boyfriend Johnathan Black is working on the west coast, not sure whether he will accept a job with NCIS, some family relationship issues as Daphne also finds out how her mother really feels about her and you have a well rounded story. Pick up this cozy mystery with humor and romance. I recommend this one as it is a fun series for fans of cozy mysteries, especially cozies involving pets. Though the main character was not my favorite person at the beginning of this series she has grown on me and this has become one of my favorite cozy series.

In this one Piper is getting married but the outrageous wedding planner gets murdered and things really start to fall apart for the wedding. Daphne wants to make sure Piper has a great day so she not only has to put up with the murder victim’s cat who has a way of getting into weird places and not being able to get out.

Everyone finds out it seems that Abigail was committing a lot of fraud with her wedding planning, double or even triple booking venues, etc., so lots of people could want her dead.

Also Jonathan has been working out of town and has news about a new job offer giving Daphne a bad vibe as they just started dating. So she is all thinking about their relationship while trying to salvage Piper’s wedding and figure out who killed the victim. Jonathan is not on the case because he is too close to things which is one of his problems since it seems like every time a murder happens he knows someone involved, mostly Daphne being in the thick of things. I didn’t think Jonathan was handling things very well throughout most of the book and it kind of made me upset a little.

I really love all the characters (now), I have wormed up to Daphne and now really like her, and also like her sister Piper, her best friend Moxie and all the rest.

I am so very proud of myself for figuring out who the murderer was before the MC did though this one was kind of tough and I thought I might not figure it out. It was a good mystery!

"Something Borrowed, Something Mewed" by Bethany Blake the fifth book in the Lucky Paws Pet Sitting Mystery series. I enjoyed this book and have purchased the previous four books so I can start at the beginning and be all caught up.

Even though I haven't read the previous books in this series, it didn't cause a problem as this can be read as a stand-alone. I must admit it did take me awhile to get into this book but that could be because I haven't read the previous books but about halfway in I was snagged and couldn't put it down.

I like the Protagonist Pet sitter Daphne Templeton as she has a soft spot for every stray and misfit who wanders into the quaint, lakeside village of Sylvan Creek in the Poconos Mountains. Her sister Piper, and Moxie are great friends to have and realistic. The characters are well developed and very likeable, and who doesn't love Socrates, her taciturn basset hound, and her tiny fuzz ball named Tinkleston. As a pet lover I really enjoyed the inclusion of all the dogs and cats.

There are plenty of red herrings, twists, turns to keep me wanting to find out what will happen next.

I cant wait for the sixth installment in this series, I recommend this to cozy lovers.

I requested and received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Kensington and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my OWN.

Something Borrowed, Something Mewed is the fifth in Bethany Blake’s Lucky Paws Pet Sitting Mystery series. The storyline is well plotted, and the characters are well developed. This book held my attention from beginning to the end and has plenty of twists and turns, and no shortage of potential suspects to keep the reader guessing. This steadily paced book is an enjoyable, clean read, with an interesting mystery and touches of humor and romance. Ms. Blake provides sufficient background information that this book can easily be read as a standalone. I’m looking forward to seeing what future adventures are in store for Daphne and her friends.

Daphne Templeton has a Ph.D. in philosophy, is the owner of Lucky Paws Pet Sitting in Sylvan Creek, Pennsylvania, and because she loves baking healthy treats for cats and dogs, she opened Flour Power, a bakery for pets. She has a Basset Hound named Socrates, who is her loyal companion, and a black Persian cat named Tinkleston. She lives in Plum Cottage on her sister, Piper’s, farm, Winding Hill. Piper is a veterinarian and is engaged to Professor Roger Berendt. Daphne has been dating Detective Jonathan Black, a former Navy SEAL, who’s on special assignment in San Diego, California. Jonathan has a well-behaved Chocolate Labrador named Axis and an energetic one-eared, crooked toothed, drooling Chihuahua named Artie. Moxie Bloom is her best friend, has a white rat named Sebastian, and owns Spa and Paw, a salon for humans and pets. Daphne’s mother, Maeve Templeton, is the owner of Maeve Templeton Realty.

Piper and Roger moved up the date of their wedding because he’s been offered a last-minute opportunity to be a guest lecturer for the fall term at a university in Manchester, England, and Maeve Templeton and Roger’s mom, Beverly Berendt, hired a wedding planner, Abigail Sinclair, of Artful Engagements & Events. Imagine everyone’s shock when they learn the wedding venue had been promised to five bridal parties, in addition to Piper and Rodger, on the same day by the same wedding planner without reserving the resort for any of them. Everyone believes Abigail Sinclair is a scam artist on them and has run off with their money, but when Daphne goes to Abigail’s home to check on her cat, Ms. Pebbles, she discovers her body in a fountain. With Jonathan on special assignment and not officially working the case, Detective Fred Doebler’s hands are full finding the murderer in the large pool of suspects. Unfortunately, Roger is among those suspects and Daphne is determined to clear his name, and as Maid of Honor, find a wedding and reception location and save her sister’s wedding before his scheduled departure in two weeks. With her sleuthing cap on, she interviews people and finds the body of one of her interviewees floating in the lake during the town’s fireworks display. Just as things are heating up in his relationship with Daphne, Jonathan is offered a permanent position with NCIS in San Diego.

I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it.

This series shows special relationships between friends, couples and humans with their pets. However, my favorite thing in this story is how it is peppered with teasers that leave you hanging for a bit but not for too long and that it is mixed with fun, romance and mystery.

I have read and enjoyed all the books in this series but this could also easily be read as a stand alone. Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.

I haven’t read the others in the series but will now because I really liked the main character. I enjoyed this “cozy mystery” but thought pet thing a bit much at times (I’m pet parent) - just, to me, it rang goofy at times

I really enjoyed this 5th Petsitting Mystery! The mystery itself is challenging, the characters and pets make the series what it is. I enjoyed visiting Sylvan Creek during the Fourth of July activities, and particularly loved Daphne Templeton's primary business of petsitting as well as her pet bakery.

Daphne's sister Piper and her fiance Roger and most of their wedding party are at Abigail Sinclair's Artful Engagements for their rehearsal dinner, at least until it is rained out. Abigail is THE wedding planner for the area despite some of her bizarre decorations and attire for the wedding party; Piper and Roger's mothers hired her to make the day special. And special it is. Abigail set up six wedding parties to marry at the same club, same day, without scheduling even one of them with the club. Upset brides, clergy, and guests were everywhere, but Abigail was nowhere in sight. Daphne had been hired again to sit with Ms. Peebles, Abigail's cat, beginning the day of the wedding, so she went to Artful Engagements to look for the wayward planner.

Daphne and her Basset hound Socrates look around the home and office but don't find Abigail or her cat. The backyard is a complete mess, not having been cleaned up since the thunderstorm interrupted last night's dinner. Ms. Peebles is mewing on a cherub in the fountain, which led Daphne to find Abigail, dead, under a flag in the lowest tier of the fountain.

Roger quickly becomes the prime suspect because of comments he made to and about Abigail, even though everyone who knows him is certain the professor could not have done the deed. Daphne doesn't want anything to happen to further complicate the bridal couple's future and asks a few questions and starts her own suspect list along with trying to help find a new place for the wedding and preparing for July 4th events in this pet-friendly town. And what could be the last straw - her boyfriend, Nathaniel, who was on loan to the Navy in California, has been offered a very good job for the former SEAL by NCIS...if he moves to San Diego.

I loved reading this challenging mystery in the very appealing town of Sylvan Creek! The characters and critters are authentic, defined well through actions and conversations. Daphne takes a few risks along the way, one which leads her to find yet another murdered woman. She meets Roger's sister and her pet pig, as well as his uncle and calico cat. Both are a tad eccentric, yet I rate his sister Dorinda high on my list of likable folks that includes Daphne, bestie Moxie, Piper, and chef Daisy. I wasn't able to solve either murder, so I was surprised more than once in the final chapters. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys well-written cozy mysteries with likable people, dogs, cats, and a bit of romance.

From a thankful heart: I received an ARC of this mystery; a positive review was not required.

If I could go on a winter holiday, it would be to the pet-friendly Pocono Mountains town of Sylvan Creek. I love everything about the people and the place. The author makes the town seem so warm and inviting, well I mean yeah they have murders, but they are usually targeted. I wouldn't feel unsafe there lol.

Daphne Templeton is a free-spirited pet sitter, armed only with a Ph.D. in Philosophy and a stubborn Basset Hound, who has become an amateur sleuth.

In this installment of the series, Daphne's sister, Piper, is about to celebrate the happiest day of her life, that is until the wedding planner is found dead. Being a very unpleasant tyrant, the list of suspects us endless. With the help of her trust sidekick, Socrates, can Daphne balance solving a murder and planning her sister's wedding? Will she be able to saver her own relationship?

This series is a fun way to escape the day or intrigue those who love a good "who dunnit" series. I swear, I have yet to figure it out in this series. I really enjoyed the detail of the story and character development, even all the dogs have great character development. A lot of cozies that I read, I describe as quick and fun, I would not describe this one as such. Ms. Blake is very detailed in her plot and characters, so you really get to dive into the story. I would not say one style is better than the other because I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to continuing on with the series.

I have this book in both digital (NetGalley) and audio versions. The narrator, Elise Arsenault, does an amazing job.

This is a delightful series and I was thrilled to receive this for review. The author has a winning formula with this series . Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My opinions are my own. As a animal lover I look forward to each new release in this fabulous series. This series has so many enjoyable aspects to it that you want to savor each new release. it is the definitive cozy mystery series complete with adorable animals and a fun sleuth.

This is the fifth installment in the Lucky Paws Petsitting Series. I have read the entire series and highly recommend the series for all cozy mystery fans that adore pets and a great sleuth.

In this next in series our savvy smart protagnist Daphne Templeton is busy amid fun preparations for the upcoming wedding between Daphne's sister Piper and her fiance, Roger. They are arguing with a eccentric wedding planner Abigail hired by their Mother and Daphne is trying to keep the peace.

Daphne is pet sitting Abigail's feline, Ms. Peebles during the preparations. and finds the body of his owner when she goes to check on the cat. Daphne is determined to find the right suspect by investigating on her own. She usually has the help of her boyfriend Detective Jonathan Black but he is out of town she sets out on her own to solve this case. She soon finds Abigail had lots of enemies and many had reason to want her dead.

The perfect mystery done to a pleasing conclusion and I enjoy the antics as always of the adorable Basset Hound , the cats and a mini pig which is delightful for all animal lovers. I love this series and each release is a delightful read with the perfect blend of pets, murder and great charcters. i cannot wait for the next release.

This is book 5 in the Lucky Paws Petsitting Mystery series and it's a great addition. Daphne and her family are all back including Socrates and the rest of the pets. Set in the Pocono mountains, Piper is getting married and when the wedding planner turns up dead after 5 brides discover she was scamming them it's a free for all. Set over the 4th of July holiday, the town is having one of their famous pet themed festivals. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

3.5 stars. This was an enjoyable cozy mystery, with plenty of suspects, and lots of dogs. The town was pet-centered, with several stores catering to pets and town events, like the Wags n Flags celebration for Independence Day.

My problem was that the dogs were too human. Daphne Templeton, the main character, brings her Bassett hound, Socrates, everywhere. During her conversations with other people, Socrates reacts to things that are said with groans, barks, or even eye rolls! He has a full understanding of everything being said, and I thought it was a bit much.

And yes, as indicated by the title, there was a cat. Actually a couple of cats, but more dogs.

Several twist on this book. Starts off with a wedding to take place for Piper and Roger and in the meantime the Wedding Planner is found dead. They are not quite sure who did it because alot of people did not like her including her assistant. In the meantime, Daphne is getting close to Jonathan and really does not want him to take a job in San Diego. We found out at they very end what happen and also does Jonathan pop the question to Daphne. There are alot of hints towards it throughout the book.

A veritable treasure chest of canines, felines, weddings and murder. Although this was my first book read in the Lucky Paws Pet Sitting series, I can see why it's a favorite for so many reviewers. Daphne Templeton 's sister is scheduled to be we'd in an affair grown larger by the two mothers-in-law to be when a rain storm, a booking scheme and murder cause the postponement. Lots of fun! Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
