Tempest He’s rude, mean, and looks at me like he hates me. And I’ve only just stepped into his house. Spending a year of travelling through impoverished places, trying to help people, should make handling Sargent Wolf—yes that’s his name—a piece of cake. But even Maddox can’t deny that his father is an absolute douche. I’m only here for six months maximum before I get my arse back on the road. I’ll just have to stay out of his way, and never suggest that he let me draw him naked. No matter how badly I want to.
Sargent If I’d known Maddox’s companion Pest was female, I’d never have agreed to let her stay. The last woman to sleep in my house was my ex-wife. I can’t live with a woman again and deal with them spreading their things everywhere. Not to mention their scent, tampons, clothes, makeup, and weird reading material. She has to leave; even if it’s me who makes her. If I must, I can suffer her presence for a few months for my son’s sake. I’ve dealt with worse. I just wish she’d wear a goddamn bra once in a while under her little white vests. I’m a tits man and hers are completely off limits.
A. E. Murphy is the Queen of sarcasm and satire, she likes long walks in the park, as much as ice cubes like to chill in a roasting oven. She’s effortlessly independent and so good at adulting it’s unfair on the rest of the world. She only napped twice today and has only avoided the dishes for three days before making the child slaves do them this morning. Winning! Her favourite hobby is writing, her worst hobby is reading through that writing. Also she has two cats that carry toys to the top of the stairs and drop them down so they can chase them. They do this repeatedly in the middle of the night. Who cares if she has work the next morning? Not the cats, that’s for sure. And if it’s not the cats doing the waking, it’s the toddler crawling into bed with her and pulling individual hairs from her scalp with pudgy little fingers for comfort. This is likely why she’s in a constant state of grump unless there’s chocolate and coffee. P.S. Please leave feedback, if not on the book then on this ridiculous bio she wrote herself. It’s the least you can do seeing as she’ll forever talk in the third person now. Alex loves her readers. Alex says thank you. Alex smiles.
I love this authors style of writing which is fresh and unapologetically unique. AE Murphy doesn't obey social cues. She writes what she likes and I love that. If you want safe, then this author is not for you as she is great at pushing the boundaries.
This is the story of a man with questionable ethics who unwillingly falls for his son's best friend. Their path to happiness was jaded, dangerous and exhausting.
I don't love her. He's wrong. I don't love her because love isn't a strong enough word.
Sargent is a wealthy enigma who has a general dislike for most women. When his son brings his best friend home to stay, he is unimpressed by Tempest. He may adore his son Maddox, but he can barely tolerate this freeloader. However as the days go by, the animosity from Sargent is changing. Hence they wind up naked together. And it may be casual, yet Sargent is possessive and Tempest is besotted. Either way their relationship has an expiry date.
I have very mixed feelings. It was the portrayal of the main characters that I couldn't connect with especially because our hero had no conscience. Overall he was an indecisive moody bastard, too selfish to walk away. As for Tempest, although likeable, I swear she had a magical vagina. No really, she literally was a magnet, not safe in the company of any male.
His Father was a circus of events that I managed to finish. The truth is that Sargent and Tempest weren't compatible. Their moments together felt awkward. I spent most the time wondering why they bothered.
DNF 12% - Not rating I have no excuse. I don't even know what I thought by starting this one. I HATE DADDY'S BOOKS, GOD DAMMIT! I'm going to put myself in time out for a while... LOL
He slept with another woman because he had no choice haha whatever. Off course the heroine hears him screwing the other woman. That was seriously annoying. Besides this, the book felt like it was two different books. It was from a taboo sort of story to a story about guns and drugs..wtf? Where did that come from. The woman he sleeps with the crazy Russian chick who he has slept with before to protect his son and the heroine. His logic for this was very stupid. I was enjoying the book up until this crap. I wish I would have read the reviews.
I wish heroine would have ended up with his son. He seemed to care for her than the hero. He told her "I love you" once directly and he didn't even mean it. And then at the end of the book (last page) he tells her he is going to show her how much he loves her...right!
The stupidest part was that the heroine was willing to look past his cheating, but he wasn't willing to love her. She kept pushing and he kept pulling after all the cheating drama when he should have been chasing her.
SPOILER ALERT: I’ve found that I really like stories about taboo relationships between a woman and her boyfriends dad. Penelope Douglas’ Birthday Girl is the absolute best of this type of book. I rate this book, His Father as 3.5. Tempest (h) aka Pest met Maddox aka Mad, while volunteering to help those in need, in other countries. They become best friends. When their time is up, Mad invites Pest to stay with him at his dad’s until her visa expires and she has to return to England. Mad plans to go with. Mad’s dad is Sargent Wolf (H). He loves his son and is excited about having him home. He’s a wealthy man that runs an international shipping company with his best friend Cassius. Sargent went through a horrible marriage/divorce from Mad’s mom, due to her drug addiction. It left a bitter taste in his mouth and he refuses to love or live with another woman again. Sargent is also bitter about having Pest in his house, even though it’s temporary. All he wants is to have his son to himself to spend time together since he was gone for a year. Sargent can be an annoying cuss and gives Tempest a hard time, quite often. He has no real reason to dislike her. He doesn’t want her to lure Maddox away from home and he’s under the impression that they are more than friends. Sargent and Tempest are very attracted to each other and both try to hide it from Maddox, each other and Sargent friends. Long story short. They end up sleeping together, the son finds them in bed and is truly pissed. He’d already told his dad and his friend Devon to leave her alone. Dad’s friend and business partner, Cassius is the person that plans the humanitarian trips overseas and is also Mad’s godfather. He has no idea that Sargent’s ex wife was in over her head with drugs, which led him into a partnership with some very unsavory people. There’s lots of hidden drama in this book and to me it didn’t fit. It wasn’t cohesive and it annoyed me. When the crap hit the fan due to Maddox, Sargent tries to protect his son, his business and Pest. I finished the book, wondering why the author chose that particular scenario as the major issue in the story. Pest was a free spirit that rarely wore bras, had minimal clothing and for the “sake” of art, she loves drawing nudes, lol. She got naked when she was drunk or high because she believed she was “one with the Earth”, lol! However, Maddox never got an erection around her until his dad questioned him about the relationship he had with Pest. Then he said that he believed they would’ve gotten married in the future. I was confused. The ending was supposed to be happy but it felt anticlimactic to me.
UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!! Apparently since I read this, the.....um........delicate ones, not gonna say crazies, not gonna say crazies, not gonna say crazies, hmmm? Oh, I wrote crazies? Sorry.
THERE IS NO CHEATING!!!! THERE IS NO CHEATING!!!!!!! THEY MET, HE HAS SEX WITH ANOTHER WOMAN WITHOUT ANY EXPECTATION OF HAVING A RELATIONSHIP WITH THE HEROINE!! THAT IS NOT CHEATING. IT IS WONDERFULLY ANGSTY, LOL!!! AND, JFYI, THIS AUTHOR IS SELLING BOOKS JUST FINE. YOU KEEP ON TELLIN' LIES AND SHE'LL KEEP ON GETTIN' ATTENTION AND SUCCEEDIN'. WIN FOR HER.
Ok, update over. You take care now. ;) :p.
4.5⭐️'s I enjoyed this tremendously. Even though I marked five stars, I'm really wishing it had a better ending. I'm hoping maybe she'll short story em in the future. If you vote on her website and it gets enough votes she'll do that. Great authors who care about their fans do these kinds of things.😀
Also, goodreads totally dropped the ball with this books placement. It needs to be put with her other books. I noticed one of the librarians left a nasty message about her, so I hope this "misplacement" wasn't deliberate.
The hero was an idiot who, up until the very last few chapters, insisted that he didn't and couldn't love the heroine and straight up told her that he had no intention of marrying her or having children with her. Oh, plus he screwed another woman, supposedly under duress, but honestly he didn't try hard enough to get out of the situation. The heroine was weak and dumb for putting up with first, his totally unwarranted verbal abuse and hatred, and then his lack of commitment. She allowed herself to be a convenience to him. They can both shove off. So then, all of a sudden we're supposed to believe that he had this powerful epiphany and now loves her. Right. And they were both prepared and willing to live without one another, though he more so than she. Epic love story this was not. He's a selfish jerk and she's a spineless idiot. Guess they deserve each other.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
h was a bit of a doormat and H was a huge asshole towards her. H was a manwhore and had a different woman every week. Near the end an hour after H sends h away for her safety he fucks another woman because he didn't have a "choice" honestly that part was completely unnecessary.
Loved it! I couldn’t put it down! A.E. Murphy knows how to pull me in; her stories are addicting for sure.
The twist towards the end I didn’t see coming which was a nice surprise, it definitely had me on the edge of my seat!
This is a stand-alone contemporary romance with a large age gap with an older hero. Also the blurb and title may lead you to believe she cheats on her boyfriend (Maddox) with his father (Sargent) but that is not the case. Pest and Maddox are NOT together romantically... they are just best friends. But yet it’s still taboo and full of angst and steam. That photo shoot scene with Pest and Sarge... gave me chills! Loved Sarge and Pest so much! And her friendship with Maddox was so sweet, I loved it all!
If you like age gap romances or a good contemporary romance then I recommend this one!
I honestly though this book was a bit much... Like it went from 0 to 100 real quick. One minutes i was reading a contemporary taboo romance and the in the last 10% this turned into a mafia/ biker book. This seriously made my head spin, it just felt so out of place that at the very end we discover the main characters deals drugs and arms. lol. Anyways the first 90% of the book did make sense and i enjoyed it enough.
Enjoyable even though it annoyed me that the hero "had" to have sex with another woman (and such a crazy psycho-bitch at that). Kind of wish the heroine's back-story --which seemed pretty tragic--hadn't been glossed over so quickly. A little more detail would have been appreciated. Over all, not the worst story I've read this year, I'd read more from this author.
Have you ever come across a book where you hoped the main characters wouldn't end up together? Well, that's exactly how I felt about this one! It was messy with so many random things and no answers. AND none of the characters, including the side ones, were particularly lovable.
I actually dont know what to say but read it its so good you will be glad you did. Twists and turns little nuggests info here an there and big surprises that make you oh hell where dis that come from but i cant recommend this anymore.
Ok so this wasn’t one of A.E. Murphy finest. It wasn’t horrible, but usually I’m so sucked in by A.E. Murphy books that I can’t put them down and this book just didn’t have me doing that..It was actually on the boring side that I skimmed through some pages.
I also didn’t get that electric of the charts chemistry feeling between her characters like I normally do. One thing I love about A.E. Murphy writing is how she makes you feel what her characters are going through and that even fell flat in this book.
A.E. Murphy did give us her signature arrogant/cocky hero, because Sargent was for-sure a arrogant s.o.b. I liked how he was honest with Tempest about his feelings. Tempest was sassy at first, but at some point in the story that changed and she started getting a little sappy… I actually was hoping her and Maddox would’ve gotten together and not Sargent. I felt more chemistry between them then I did with Sargent. Which I’m super A.E Murphy didn’t change up the story on her readers with her famous twisted and shocking ending. I was kinda disappointed that she hadn’t.
As for the storyline, like I said it was kinda boring and it just didn’t really keep my interest. I felt like parts that needed more information were rushed and parts that we really didn’t need were dragged out. Basically the story was them having sex and the hero not wanting to commit.
Audiobook review: As for Keira Stevens I love her narrating and give her a 4 star, but Logan McAllister not so much. This was my first time listening to him and my last..not only does he Narrate horribly, but he sounds like he’s 80 years old! He Definitely was not a good choice for this book.
I give this book a 3.5 stars. In general I liked the story but I had a tough time with the two lead characters. I felt like Sargent was just too much of an asshole in the beginning. He view of women was so skewed it was just stupid. This all of the sudden he just changes? It never got me to REALLY warm up to him. Especially since he would never really give Tempest the emotional things she really needed. Tempest was a whole other matter all together. I hate it when women in these books are weak and practically beg the man to be with them and love them, over and over. I don't care if he really did love her underneath everything. He didn't show it and she was just pathetic to basically beg for it. She should have let him go and that be that. If he should have proved to her he wanted her. I was so tired of her just giving into him and crying over him at the end I was rolling my eyes.
Again, story was kinda interesting and solid and if the character flaws I described don't grate on your nerves give this book a try.
Pest is invited to stay with her friend Maddox at his dad's house, only sergeant doesn't like the idea of a female in his house, especially when she's as beautiful as pest. Definitely a page turner with good characters and dialogue. The story takes an unexpected turn but I think there is some chapters missing as that segment didn't flow neither did sergeant knowing. This should have been covered in a chapter. Otherwise a nice little romance.
Having experienced the high that came with reading Becoming His Mistress, I quickly grabbed a copy of His Father by A. E. Murphy as this one seemed to be right up my alley. Younger heroine who meets the father of her best friend, and bam! The sparks fly and there is no looking back, even when the union is bound to be opposed and face a lot of turbulent times before reaching the ultimate happily ever after.
When Sargent Wolf’s son Maddox brings home his best friend Tempest, with whom Maddox had been backpacking all over the world, the reaction that the first introduction itself triggers in both Sargent and Tempest is one that cannot be denied. Sargent hides his obvious fascination with Tempest’s piercing and more behind gruff indifference, while Tempest tries her hardest to act as if its every day occurrence to meet a man who makes her wet with want with one searing glance sent her way.
Before long, Sargent and Tempest give in to their desire for one another, come what may. There is no denying that they fit like two peas in a pod, with Tempest answering a deep seated need in Sargent for acceptance and love, something that he would not have admitted to even with a gun pointed at his head. However, there are darker forces at play in Sargent’s life that he has to sort out before anything longer term can come of what is between him and Tempest, not to mention facing Maddox once the cat is out of the bag.
His Father, though not of the caliber as Becoming His Mistress, was a compelling read for the most part. I liked both Sargent and Tempest; Sargent is the kind of hero that I love best – gruff, demanding, and reluctant to face the truth of his feelings towards the heroine. Tempest was exactly what Sargent needed – kind and gentle, with a depth to her character which gives her a maturity that most people her age would not have.
There is a particular incident in the story as it reaches a pivotal point, which many readers may find to be a turn off. But I think I understood why what happened took place. There was literally nothing else Sargent could have done at that point in time, but give in. But at the same time, I found the turn the story took to reach that point a bit jarring. While it was understood that Sargent had had a tough time with Maddox’s mother, the whole drug sale affiliation tangent just seemed out of place, even though I suppose it served its purpose towards the end.
I loved the angst factor that came later on, and how Sargent came through at the last minute, lending the emotional depth to the story that I craved when all was said and done. The one thing that I missed was an epilogue – it would have meant so much more for the story had there been an epilogue at the end.
Recommended for fans of those who love age gap romances, when falling in love seems so wrong, but feels so darn right.
Final Verdict: With emotional depth, angst, and scorching hot sex leaping out of the pages, Ms. Murphy hits it out of the ballpark with His Father.
Maddox is his son, Tempest is Maddox's best friend. It would be so easy for her to fall in love with Maddox- but it's not what her heart wants and you cannot force chemistry or interest or anything where this is none. But with Sargent all those things come naturally if you get past his temperment of bitterness, stubborness and close mindedness. If you get past his walls and all that.... Nope it's not love its....
I really enjoyed this spin on the older man, younger women, best friends dad trope. This one sent me through such emotions like a rollercoaster. And the mule like tendancies from Sarfe- ugh!
I do feel bad for Maddox though, such a great guy and his sacrifices for his best friend who he's got unrequited love for. I hope he get's his HEA. He deserves it.
I'd even like to see Devon and like to see Cassius each get their HEAs. Stone too- he's a bad boy who surprisingly seems sweet. Even though this is a standalone I would love to see more of these characters and an epilogue for Sarge & Tempest- do they one day do it all? Marriage and kids- there's always adoption of an older child. He wouldn't be too old for that new beginning. Like a 12 year old or older.
This book was beautifully crafted that had me not wanting to put it down.
I’ve been looking forward to this story as soon as I heard it was in the works. I’ve never been let down by any of this author’s work. She’s always spot on. She gets your heart going crazy and makes it impossible to think of anything else but the characters.
Sargent Wolf is too old to bother with his sons “girl”friend. She’s a son stealer. He knows she’s trouble from the moment he sees her. Unfortunately he can’t stop himself when it comes to her either. She’s the beautiful and calm presence he wants and needs in his life. Damn the consequences.
Tempest (Pest) has been traveling trying to save the world one day at a time with her best friend Maddox (Mad). When they need to regroup they go home to Max’s childhood home and his father. Sarge as Pest calls him is rude and obviously hates women. Pest isn’t a pushover though. Fireworks erupt even when they’re the kind filled with hate.. but those slowly turn to lust and maybe just maybe love.
This was a definite five star read.. I’m gonna keep my fingers crossed that maybe some of the secondary hotties get their own story’s too!
I loved this hot treat of a taboo that has the makings of a great read: an older dad meets his son's girlfriend then hate, jealousy, lust, and all of the typical emotions ensue. Tempest and Sarge have the kind of stormy heat that made this book feel like a quick read for me. My favorite character in this book, though, is Maddox. Gawd, I love him! His connection with Tempest is so sweet and I loved anytime I read a scene with them together. I hope Maddox gets his own story in the future. 4.5 stars.
I really enjoyed this book a lot and it was really hot. The chemistry between Sargent and Pest was sizzling hot. Sargent was the father of Pest’s best friend and from the start the attraction was forbidden. Sargent tried to deny himself but inevitably failed as Pest was just a sweetheart. There was some suspense in the story as well which was nicely done.
