I’m known in the NHL as The Stick Handler, but according to a conversation I accidentally overheard between my fiancé and her friend, I’m The Money Maker, and marrying me will get her daddy—who just happens to own the hockey team I play for—off her back and secure her financial future, whether the marriage lasts or not. Now, call me a prick for canceling our Valentine’ wedding at the eleventh hour, but when she threatens to ruin my career and reputation, it’s the icing on the uncut wedding cake. She gives me a week to reconsider, and I take it—at the Italian resort booked for the honeymoon that will never be, and there’s no one I’d rather take with me than Katee, the girl who has held a special place in my heart since forever. When the concierge mistakes her for the bride, we go with it. Only problem is, the place reeks of romance and keeping my hands to myself might prove to be the toughest game I’ve ever played.
Katee:
A honeymoon in Italy and I’m not the bride? How can I say no when Luke needs a shoulder to cry on, and no matter what, I’ll always be there for him. The problem is, none of my imaginary kisses come close to the reality of Luke’s mouth on mine, even if it’s just for show, and it’s going to take more space than a king-size bed provides to keep things in the friend zone. I’m weak, I admit it, but this is Luke, and the more we pretend, the more real it feels. Will our make-believe honeymoon be the end of a lifelong friendship? Will returning home mean the end of his career, or the beginning of something so much more?

Banging my head why I read this……. CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!
So, Hero & heroine are BF’s. They grew up together and Hero was heroine’s protector because she was chubby when she was young & had dyslexia. After college (I think), they moved in together as platonic friends and saw each other naked many times (he when she was changing& taking a shower & she when he was sick & had to undress and wash him).
So even though they have always been just friends, Hero is in love with her but he states that heroine has him on the “friend-zone” and he never did anything about it. Instead, he tries to forget his feelings towards her with other women. And this is where the story goes even more downhill.
Hero has just made it big in the NHL when after a game one night, he opens the door to his hotel room and finds a naked chick in his bed. This chick turns out to be the football owner’s daughter. So instead of kicking her out, yes, you guessed it, he fucks her. And continues to do so for 6 months which results in him becoming engaged & planning a wedding one day without knowing how he got there! What?!!!
“I wasn’t sure why she’d set her sights on me, and before I knew it, a few months had passed and she was planning an elaborate Valentine’s Day wedding. I’m not even sure I ever asked her to marry me. But the next thing I knew we were picking out a ring, and tasting pound cake with buttery icing”.
Then the night before they are getting married, he finds his fiancée talking on the phone with her friend and saying how she didn’t love him and was basically marrying him for his money because her father was about to cut her off financially. Hero tries to break things off with her but she threatens to ruin his life & career:
“I shake my head, hating that I let things get so out of hand, that I let her lead me like a lamb to the slaughter. I’m a grown fucking man who can make his own decisions, so why the hell did I just go along with her, cave to everything she wanted? Oh, maybe because it was easier to be with Ari, and go with the flow—keep my mind off the one girl I’ve always loved, the girl who’d grown up next door to me, and who keeps me in the friend zone.”
So he was in love with his BF but AGREED to marry this woman to stay just friends with his BF? And if that wasn’t crazy enough, the pansy that he is, agrees to take a week off to “think things through” in hopes his fiancee comes to realize that they don't belong together because his fiancée has threaten to ruin him. He doesn’t tell her to fuck off or something. He just agrees to go “think”, so technically they are still engaged because he is scared she will ruin him & she warned him not to say anything to anyone or else…..
“Who the hell is this woman? For the last six months, she’d been nothing but charming. Then again, I’d given her everything she wanted, until now. Even before I heard her say those things to her friend, I knew I couldn’t go through with it, not when my heart belongs to another—despite the fact that I can never have her. Christ, what kind of fucked up mess have I gotten myself in to?”
Umm.. moron, it was the night before you were getting married. You absolutely & freaking WERE about to marry the OW if you had not heard what she said! At no time did he say he was going to break things off if he had not heard what she said!!!
We then have his BF (heroine) show up at his place and she gives him a massage – all the while feeling each other up and lusting after one another. Then stupid heroine decides to invite herself on his honeymoon. So Hero says:
"If only this was our honeymoon—a real one. Then again, everything about it is wrong, because this isn’t where she’d want to be. If I said as much, she’d no doubt flee, and I’d lose the best friend I ever had. But how can I fucking go on pretending? I can never marry or love another woman, not when I can’t get past Katee. That much is obvious”.
Umm… he can never marry another woman? Wasn’t he engaged to marry OW the night before? Would have gone through with it if he didn’t hear what she said to her friend? Isn’t he STILL engaged to the OW?
Then there is the part where he is always comparing heroine to his fiancee.
“I hand her a beer, and set the plate on the bed between us. As I do I can’t help but think of Ari. She’d never be caught eating in bed, let alone drinking beer. When it comes right down to it, she’s the antithesis of Katee. Maybe that’s why I went with it. Nothing about her reminded me of the girl I’m crazy about. Seriously though, did I really think that would help me move on?”
So then we find both idiots (hero & heroine) on his honeymoon in which they are pretending to be married so that no one finds out that she is not the wife he was suppose to be married to. They end up sharing a room/bed, watch porn & because apparently Hero is horny, he decides to teach her about sex because she doesn’t experience orgasms or some such shit with her ex's. Basically they play doctor! (wink! wink!)..
“ I shouldn’t be using our closeness to find out about her sex life. But there is a part of me that wants to make sure she’s getting what she needs in the bedroom”.
“ I just want you to know that any guy who is with you should put you on a pedestal and treat you right in the bedroom. Even without the emotions, I need to make sure you know what ‘treating you right’ really means.”
So that is the total sum of the story. They have lot's of sex then when they come home, the fiancee surprises him, he is led by his tail again, then finally get's some balls to break things off and live his HEA with heroine. The End.
SAFETY: If anyone cares, neither are virgins and I would definitely say that Hero is a cheater since he didn't flat out tell his fiancee to get lost before he started f****g heroine.
PS: Why 2 stars and not 1 or 0? There were some really hot sex scenes....
I'm falling in love with this series. Not sure why it took me so long to read Cathryn Fox's books as they are so well written and funny.
Luke didn't love Arianna and he wanted out the day before he walked down the aisle. It was over for him after he heard she didn't love him. Problem is that Arianna’s threats he would never play hockey again if he backed out. As she was the owner's daughter of the NHL team Seattle Shooter. “Take a week off to think about it” Week honeymoon in Italy, why not as long as he had his best friend with him. A secret that he never told his best Katee is that deep down he loved her. can they pretend to be husband and wife for a week and learn to love each other more? This sexy and honest fun couple Luke and Katee learn the intimate side of each other. At what cost at the end of the week will their friendship end or will they finally say what they mean to each other.
How I loved the Playmaker the first book in this series and so with great excitement I downloaded this book. At the end of Playmaker it appeared that Jess and Luke would be the next book. Not so, it turns out Luke is about to marry Ari the owners daughter and realizes that Ari needs his money and status but not him, so the day before the wedding he calls it off and Ari pleads with him to take a week before finally deciding to cancel the wedding but he can’t tell anyone. God knows how you delay a wedding by a week but hey it’s a story so go with it I tell myself. Katee his best friend rushes to his side to commiserate his cancelled wedding thinking what Ari cried off and naturally Luke can’t tell Katee the true story even though they’re best friends. Is your skin crawling yet? Mine certainly was. The main problem with this book was there was no chemistry, no romance and no connection to the first book. It’s a few hours of my life I will never get back. Plus how do you sleep with a guy who was just about to get married and how does Luke justify sleeping with Katee when he hasn’t told her the true facts. What a pot boiler this was!
It took me a bit to realise this book isn't about Luke Callaghan but a completely different Luke. I would have preferred Jess and Luke's story instead of this Luke and his best friend.
When Luke overhears his fiance telling a friend that she is only marrying him for his money, it hurts more than a little, but it honestly doesn't surprise him. Their relationship started a little too fast for his liking, they met, hooked up, and in a matter of weeks after that he was putting a ring on her finger, at her urging of course. If he is being truthful he's not so sure he loves her either, so he suggests that they put the brakes on their wedding and go their separate ways. But she has other plans, ones that involve him giving her the life she is accustom too. She orders him to go along with the plan, but he's just not that kind of guy, he wants to marry someone who he loves, and can share a honest life with... and that's just not her.
She then issues him an ultimatum, either he follow through, or she will be forced to take action, and derail his life on the ice. And that doesn't sit well with him at all, he needs time to think and getaway from her, so he decides to take their week long honeymoon to Italy. But what fun is it to go alone, so he invites his best friend Katee to go along... and from there things take an interesting turn!!
From the very first page The Stick Handler will have scooting to the edge of your seat and taking notice... and it only gets better from there! The moment Luke graces the pages you will be enamored with him, he's sexy, commanding, confident, and has a undeniable sweetness to him that will speak to your heart. I loved meeting this hockey playing alpha and the lady who accosts his heart, their story had me smiling and swooning throughout! If sports romance is your thing, then I highly suggest you take a chance on this one, cause this sexy hockey player will leave you thoroughly satisfied... and then some!
Katee really bugged me, like I thought she figured everything out after the phone call but nope she was an idiot. Also I get he couldn't tell her that he called off the wedding but couldn't he have told her that Ari calling off the wedding, made him realize he didn't love Ari and didn't want to marry her anymore. Like that would have fixed the whole "he doesn't love me and he wants her back" crap that Katee said every freaking chapter. Like why is he sleeping with you if he wants to be with her still! Like don't you know him really well. Wouldn't you know he's not like that.
IDK this book just kind of pissed me off to be honest. Like I've read other friends to lovers books that were amazing but this just sucked. It's not worth your time unless you just want to read spicy scenes cause that was basically all it was.
Also that "that's why you love me" line got old real freaking fast and was not cute at all. I just wanted to scream shut up every time they said it!

This book had me confused and seriously irritated. After reading the Playmaker, I quickly passed to the next series book The stick Handler. Sooo in this book the protagonist is Luke and I firmly believed it was Nina’s brother. And has hopping to get a glimpse at the romance he had going with Jess (hinted at the end of the Palymaker) but this Luke either isn’t Nina’s brother or has a totally diferente upbringing story! He was poor (Nina wasn’t) he had a girl for a best friend (not Cole). Honestly this had me truly fuming! The author could had called the hero another name if this wasn’t going to be the Luke from the previews book. When you pass through that the story is a basic best friends to scared to spoil the friendship to say anything kinda story.... though I‘ave to say that the way Luke was about to marry a woman he met y months ago and didn’t even like is angering!
Series 2/9; Hockey; Friends to Lovers; e-Book; Library
Katee and Luke have been best friends since they were in grade school. Luke was all set to marry his fiancee when he heard her telling her best friend that she didn't love him and she just wanted to be supported in the manner which she was accustomed to. He confronted her and she convinced him to not break up immediately and to give it a week. She then gave him the tickets for their honeymoon in Italy on the ski slopes.
Katee winds up going with Luke. Katee has secretly loved Luke for years, but has given up hope. Luke has secretly loved Katee as well. Luke uses this trip to finally see if Katee is interested in him, and yes she is.
I loved watching these two finally come together. It really was a case of if they had only communicated better to begin with...
Another sweet and steamy story, this one involving best friends. Luke is supposed to marry another woman who he isn't in love with, he overhears her telling her friend that she is not in love with him and she is only marrying him because her father threatened to cut her off. When he confronts her she tell him to take a week to come to his senses or she will ruin his life. He takes best friend Katee on what was supposed to be his honeymoon but he truly is in love with Katee and is hoping to convince her with his body that it is her that he always wanted. Still found spelling and grammatical errors which sometimes causes confusion.
I am always sorry when the man can't stand up for himself with women who are aggressive to point of blackmailing a professional hockey player to marry her. She seemed psycho and he seemed submissive. Then the lack of communication with the girl who is "lucky" to spend his prepaid honeymoon with him. I don't understand what/why psycho girl put up with that scenario.?!! I felt bad for the poor girl who was "led" on. The whole thing is wrong. No book boyfriend here.
I do like the honeymoon set up. It made me want to take a trip to Italy and Bali. Lol
This book is not my cup of tea.

This is a best friends to lovers story. I loved that these two knew each other inside and out before they decided to take the relationship to the next level. I could completely understand the nervousness they both had verbalizing their interest in the other. They didn't want to ruin a life long friendship.
I really did enjoy reading when Luke decided to go all in. When he started watching the video with her and didn't back down. It was really hot to read.
I hated Luke's fiancee, she was a gold digger from the get go.
3.5 stars. I'm a huge fan of hockey genre so I miss the fact that there was no actual hockey in this story and having not read the first book, I'm not sure if I missed anything related to the start of Luke and Ari's relationship. I did find the fact that Luke and Katee spent so much time half naked and sleeping together before they got together a bit far-fetched, but the sex scenes were hot!. Overall a good read. I'm intrigued to read on the other players that were mentioned in the story
Sooo disappointing! I started the book thinking that Jess and Luke will have a happy ever after but no....this is like the writer decided to have another LUke and another family . The book does not have any plot at all, Luke has a relationship out of the blue with the daughter of the owner, it could have been about relationship or friendships but the book is only related to sex. I like romantic comedies and books but they must have at least a plot. Sorry I cannot recommend this book

Hockey player Luke Erikson broke his engagement when he overheard his now-former fiancé tell her friend that she didn’t love him but since he had money. Luke decided to take his best friend Katee with him on the honeymoon to Italy to use the reservation.
Little did Luke know that he would finally see Katee in a different light and much more than childhood friends!
I was a little disappointed that Cason wasn't next but I still had a blast reading this book. I'm guessing that I'm going to read the whole series, I just wish I could get all of them at a reduced price because I live on disability and it's not much money for my serious book addiction!
I love Cathryn Fox and her books, but I believe this is one of my favorites from her. It is a real page turner from start to finish. With the prefect balance of passion and humour, I would recommend this book to everyone who love romance and friendship.
I love hockey romance and this was a good one. I feel like the author is set to build a great cast of characters for this hockey team and their significant others. Can't wait for the next book
I was listening to the audiobook, and it is AI narrated. It just took me out of the story, so I'll read the book and see if that works better! It wasn't the story per se, I just couldn't get into on the audiobook
Friends to lovers. This is a great story finding two friends on a honeymoon after one decides not to get married. The chemistry between the two best friends can not be denied.
Luke is a good guy caught in a bad situation, and Katee is his best friend. On a honeymoon that wasn't, they discover being more than friends makes everything better! Love this series!
Read this one in a book set. Loved it. New author for me for hockey romance. Loved Luke and Katee. Hit and sexy. Wanted more. Can't wait for the next instalment.
OK story. [SPOILER] What I really loved about this story was Luke's dirty mouth. He loved to talk dirty to Katee and I love reading it. The story line was cliche at best, but that didn't bother me.
The first book in this series was great, but the relationship between the two main characters in this book was just weird and a little wrong at times. Hopefully book 3 is more like book 1.
