Xander is angry and fed up with being signed off work for something that was out of his control. He loses himself in alcohol and one-night stands, anything to dull the pain in his head.
Jonah is enjoying the freedom away from his small-town life, living life to the full in a big city. A few weeks away from starting his job as a firefighter, he embraces the nightlife and the men found in the clubs. One man, in particular, catches his eye, and not even exchanging names, they spend a night lost in each other, and then another. Still not bothering to find out any more about each other, they go their separate ways.
Until they find themselves face-to-face at work.
Unable to stay away from each other, they embark on something that soon morphs into so much more. Deeper, more intense, looking a lot like love.
But will it be enough when Jonah hears some life-changing news and he turns to Xander for support?

Hiding behind a quiet unassuming facade J J reads and writes hot sexy stories. Stories of men loving men as well as women loving men.
What would the neighbors think!!

As long as the men are hot alpha's and the women are strong in their own right then they have a place in J J's books.

JJ also has a kinkier side and writes under the name of AG Silver. So, make sure you look out for those books too.

Okay, so two hot firefighters, that’s really all I needed to want to read this book. I kind of went into it blind apart from that… LOL, I’m easy. So, in this one, we have Jonah and Xander.

Xander is off on medical leave until he can get his head sorted after a call gone bad where they lost a twelve year old little girl. Although there was nothing he could do, he carried the weight of it, and understandably so… I can’t imagine how hard it must be to be a first responder of any kind. I liked the realness of his situation and the way it was handled…. In this aspect at least. There are other parts of this story that I did not agree with, but we’ll get to that in a minute.

Now, meeting at a club, Jonah and Xander have an incredible connection, though they don’t catch each other’s names the couple times’ theyd run into each other. What I didn’t like was that everyone seemed to sleep with this bartender Curtis…. Literally, everyone; even Xander’s ex that pops up out of nowhere. And they’re all okay with Curtis, knowing that he sleeps with everyone, including their boyfriends?? Even Xander didn’t care that he’d slept with the ex, as well as Jonah, after he slept with Jonah?? I didn’t like that at all…. I’m a slut shamer. Absolutely.

Anyway, after another weekend hookup without exchanging names, Xander is set to go back to work. He’s been cleared, and the next day he’s back on rotation…. Problem is… the nameless hookup he can’t stop thinking about is his new partner! Then…. They go from 0-100 in about a day. Neither of them do relationships, neither of them hook up with the same person twice, but the first day they work together, they decide that after two weekends of hooking up…. They’re boyfriends….. they didn’t call it that til the next week, but that’s what it was. It felt like the story should’ve been over at 50%..... but then we get thrown a curve ball.

Jonah has a son…. A teenage son with the only girl he’s ever slept with. His teenage best friend from 15 years ago. Cliché, eh? Except she was supposed to have had an abortion and moved away back then. Unfortuately, when her husband- that has raised Jonah’s son his entire life, finds out that Jonah’s son (Christian Grey- yes, that’s his actual name) Kit (nicknamed, thankfully), when he finds out that he’s gay, he flips and all the sudden doesn’t want to be his dad anymore…. And Kit’s mom just goes along with it. Of course, she cries… but are you kidding? You’re going to choose a homophobe over your child???

I didn’t like how everyone kept blowing this kid off. I understood that it came out of left field for Jonah, and he needed to get his head around it and all, but, even he said that if it was going to cause problems with Xander, he’d choose Xander…. What is wrong with these people? This is a kid…. YOUR kid, and for neither of them to put that kid first, made me sick. And I loved Xander and Jonah together, even if it did go at warp speed and the dialogue was cringy at times… I enjoyed them together, they were good for each other. But, seriously…. You’re going to make the whole second half of the story about the kid, but, nobody really cared about the kid. Least, not in my opinion.

Anyway, I loved Xander’s family, but we get a face full of Jonah’s mom several times. She seems awful, but then she just disappeared. No more mention of Kit’s mom, after she said okay, the kid can live with you so I can keep my husband….(okay, she didn’t say that, but it’s what it felt like to me)

Overall, I felt there was a lot going on in this story, and a lot of it I didn’t agree with….I kind of felt on the fence with it, but it ended well. Cute. I’ll go with 3 stars for me on this one.

JJ has done it again. This time with two smoking hot firemen and the fire is hot. I love how she
brings two men together and the chemistry is so strong from the get-go. She loves to capture my heart and not let it go and making me want more. Along with the chemistry, she always throws heartache in there and this time is no different. My heart breaks for these men that are not accepted by their families for being who they are. No one should ever feel that conditional love and should never be ashamed of who they are.
Xander has been off work since a terrible incident at a scene that was out of his control. He has to see a therapist until she releases him back to the fire department. The incident has really messed with his head, so he turns to drinking too much and one-night stands. He doesn’t sleep with the same guy twice until an extremely sexy (didn’t get his name) tells him where he can find him again. He seeks out Mr. Sexy, but he still doesn’t want his name and sneaks out before he wakes. Finally, he gets released to go back to work.

Jonah is new in town and checks out the local club and enjoys some of the locals. He can’t believe how hot this one-night stand is and tells him to come find him if he wants to hook up again. Jonah comes from a small town, and he wasn’t very welcome there when he came out
as gay. He’s very excited to start his new job at the fire department and to feel part of a team again. Mr. Hottie came, and they hooked up again without names. They were both in a hurry just to get naked.

On Xander’s first day back he’s a bit nervous. He’s heard from his best friend about the new guy and how great he is. What a shock when he walked into the station and was introduced to Mr. Sexy. They both do their best to be professional, but they can’t seem to keep their hands to themselves. They both soon realize they have more than sexual chemistry together.

They are falling for each other and hard. The day Xander moves in with Jonah, Jonah gets life changing news.

Will this be too much for Jonah to handle? Will Xander be able to handle this news? Will Xander be able to support Jonah whatever the decision is? Can these two survive the heat? I would love to help you out with these questions, but you’ll have to do what I did and read this steamy love story

I thought the book started in the perfect place, right after the hookup between Xander and Jonah and on the run up to Xander being allowed back to work and the inevitability of them meeting again. I was itching for this moment to happen and when it did, I loved how his was handled by the author. There’s so much chemistry between these two men and they find it hard to ignore and just be colleagues and nothing more. Xander still has some lingering issues from the fire that had him side-lined, and Jonah just supports him beautifully, add this supportive side to Jonah to the mounting attraction and these boys just can’t help growing even closer. You can feel the chemistry between them when they’re being intimate, and these scenes were ridiculously hot, it’s no wonder they can’t keep their hands off each other! But life’s never easy and just when they think they have a clear road ahead, a surprise from the past comes a-knocking which could change both their lives.

One thing worth mentioning, I loved how JJ described Jonah and Xander, sometimes in a story we’re not given enough detail, but here, I had a clear picture in my head to work with throughout the book which I think really helps, I like to know what their hair and eye colour is and the shape of their bodies and I had all that info here which added to the enjoyment of the story as I could ‘see’ the guys and that pulled me into the book even more, and can I say, I loved the vision we were given of these two!

I really enjoyed this book, I loved the heat between Xander and Jo and the way their journey hit you at the heart at times, and I smiled, a lot, at the really funny and easy going banter between all the guys. And can I just say Kit and Ryan [sigh]….

When Xander and Jonah meet, no names are exchanged, just a passion filled night shared between the two.
They don’t do repeats, so what happens when they want each other again and again!?!

It’s a beautiful journey of finding the one, that person that completes you and makes you happy.
And when the past comes back to play havoc with your life, you discover that having that person there with you helps guide you to the right choices.

Xan and Jo’s chemistry together was instant. The bedroom scenes were hot and you fall in love with not only them, but all the characters we are introduced to from the boys at the fire station to Xanders crazy beautiful family!

I really enjoyed this story! Lots of beautiful swoon worthy moments and the perfect HEA!!

AMAZING

This is a great story about discovery. Jonah and Xander are Firefighters. When they get together it's a triple five alarm coupling of HOT. If you are familiar with JJ Harper books, you know what I mean. If not, get a cool drink and a fan, your going to need it. These two meet under pretty funny circumstances, they didn't know they had already met. This is a journey of discovery and learning about each other. I enjoyed this story very much. I don't know how I didn't read this as soon as I got it. I've learned to check my inventory in my Kindle because I've had this FANTASTIC story for a long time and missed it in the shuffle. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!

I love everything JJ Harper writes hot romantic love stories. Xander and Jonah are hot firemen who hooked up but don’t know each other as Xander is off work when Jonah arrives at he new station, the chemistry and passion between them is hot. What starts out simple soon turns into more. When Jonah’s world is rocked Xander is there for him the strength of there relationship just gets stronger with each day. I loved how the story flowed the characters are so strong but at the same time vulnerable, once you start this story you will not be able to put it down. True love does conquer all.

Square One (ARC) has been graciously provided to me by the author for an honest review. I voluntarily read it and have provided my honest review.

"The Road to Happiness"

As a warmth, similar to the feeling one gets as a result of being wrapped-up snugly within the comfort of a warm and cocoon-producing blanket on a cold winters day, settles over me at the conclusion of my most recent read of an upcoming release, I feel all warm and satisfied at the conclusion of this welcomed, thought-provoking and ultimately heart-warming new story.

Square One, by J.J. Harper is a story filled with steamy and down-right sizzling moments between two firefighters, who are electrically immersed within a beautiful romance, one that had caught both of them by surprise, and as both had been simultaneously attempting to rise above various angst-filled, and at times, quickly resolved, heart-breaking moments, it was not something that either had been looking for but what had actually found them instead.

I loved this story!  It had contained many wonderful moments, one of which turned out to be an extremely realistic and thought-provoking issue that I favor seeing within any type of story.  I loved the main characters, Jonah and Xander, and enjoyed the natural-progression of their journey of self-discovery as they uncovered their equaled need and desire to be able to lead a happy and full-filling life through love, strength and dedication.

As Jonah and Xander took this road together, they relied on and had appreciated the support of not only each other but also of various family members as well as close friends, who as secondary characters were welcoming, loving, sweet, and, absolutely adorable.

As I am a returning reader of this author, having read and absolutely loved the previous book, Reckless Behavior, I had high expectations for any future reads.  I will admit to feeling at odds with what I was initially reading, when I had begun Square One, as I wasn't quite sure of the direction of the plot, in addition to not quite being able to figure out some of the characters, as well as needing more depth, at times, for that known emotional pull; all perhaps due to the need for another round of editing, but..it had all quickly gathered steam, pun completely intended, and, my thoughts and emotions had changed soon-there-after.

With its heart-breaking and yet heart-warming moments, its added emotionally dedicated and excellently-written characters, Square One is a story that had this reader fluctuating between needing to take a cold shower, to biting one's nails, to cheering loudly, to needing a serious wad of tissues to soak up the waterfall of emotions, to being in total bliss.  This story that while it had begun a bit slowly, in this readers opinion, it wound up picking-up speed as it ultimately became a wonderful story of strength, love, support, and, true happiness.  I loved it and am so glad to have read it. :)

A wonderfully beautiful well written story about two people Jonah and Xander and how when two strangers find themselves drawn to each other while out at a club soon discover that when their sexual chemistry keeps pulling them together, when both men first meet it was meant to be just one night of hot sexual release no names just sex.

Both men desperately needed time to heal from their past. While Xander is off work on stress leave as a firefighter from a tragic loss of life Xander feels responsible for. Jonah who recently had moved into town to rebuild his life started his new position in the firehouse as the new guy.

Jonah had no idea the one night stand is Xander the hot sexy Saturday night guy he recently hooked up with. Imagine his surprise when Xander returns back to work and they are introduced by the fire chief they both fight the chemistry until can no longer.

As their friendship and emotions develop faster than either of then expect, both their pasts comes crashing down around them. This story touches on so many relevant issues faced by many new couples when they have a past that threatens to destroy their future together.
A highly recommended read that won't disappoint. The love between these two is just beautiful and the strength and love shown by Xander's family is so well written.

I was kindly given an ARC to read for an unbiased and honest review and I'm so happy I did.
I loved this book and especially the main characters Xander and Jonah who you felt you knew immediately. After they spent one hot and nameless night together after meeting at a club, neither of the men could forget the other as they both felt the connection between them, even though they thought they wanted nothing more than a one night stand. Then they spent another night together and Jonah eventually put two and two together about the missing colleague at his new job. When Xander returns to work the pull is difficult for them to hide from their colleagues, especially one in particular. As their attraction grows they pull together through some tough work and family situations which only makes their connection stronger. I loved the epilogue and the hea.

I loved the characters and I felt I knew them right from the beginning. It's a beautifully written story and I was sad when it ended as I love these men. It was nice to read a story set in the UK for once and with British language (though I hate the word knob!). I also felt I knew Xanders family and his mother is a total treasure. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

J J Harper has come up with this beauty as part of the Under the Uniform series... this focuses on two firefighters Xander & Jonah and their escapades.
This couple first meet on a night out and from there they spend a very pleasurable night or two together and they both fully expect to leave it there and just move on.
However we know J J Harper is not going to leave it there don’t we, so when they very unexpectedly meet again in the one place there is no escape, more than a few fireworks spark!
From here the story takes off and from that initial attraction we start to see and feel something deeper happening, we may recognise it as it turns from lust to love but do they?
A lot happens in this short story but that in no way is a bad thing here... J J knows how to weave an exciting tale adding in suspense, intricate plot lines, excitement, angst and just the right splash of sexiness to really float this story. It’s well thought out and very cleverly written insofar as it feels much longer than its word count... this is a great talent and not easy to do so huge applause!
So take a chance on these boys and you’ll be thrilled you did, each character that is brought to us by J J Harper tends to burrow in your heart and live there long after the story has ended.

Amount of sex 4.5 / 5
How explicit is the sex scenes 4.5 / 5
Story 4.5 / 5
Overall: 4.5 / 5

Do you know what’s better than two hot, sexy men? Two hot, sexy firefighters!

Square One is a standalone MM romance, and it’s simply delicious. This story is so dang hot that I had to fan myself to prevent myself from overheating! Sometimes I have to sacrifice a good storyline when I’m reading a really steamy novel. But not with author JJ Harper! In this story, the characters are engaging and well developed, and the storyline is well written.

In this story, Xander is a firefighter, but he’s on medical leave after a very difficult fire. He’s seeing a counselor and waiting for her approval to return to work. Jonah just moved to the area and starting his new job in a couple days. So, when Xander and Jonah hook up one night, they don’t realize that they will soon be co-workers at the same firehouse. Can they keep their hands off each other while working? What will the other guys at the firehouse say?

Square One is a great story, and I devoured it in one day!

Two sexy fire fighters

Xander and Jonah have a fiery connection when they meet in a club. Even though they don't exchange any names, they can't seem to stay away from each other. They get quite the surprise at work. I think Xander is very brave for confronting his fears but he is very stubborn. I wish he would be more open. I feel bad for Jonah and everything that he had to deal with. He is very patient and understanding with Xander but I like that he set boundaries. Just when Jonah and Xander are settling in Jonah gets some shocking news. I loved how throughout all the turmoil Xander supported him. I really dislike Jonah's mom and people involved in his past, very selfish, but I'm so happy they have Xander 's mom. Just say some the scenes towards the end made me laugh; I've always liked the color grey. I really enjoyed th ending of this book, so sweet, and I liked we get to experience a lot of the scenes from both this perspectives. A sweet and enjoyable read by JJ Harper.

Square One is a quick, easy read and a great addition to the Under the Uniform series.
Although this book is part of a series, it is 100% standalone.
Xander and Jonah do not do repeats, until a one night stand turnsinto two.
No names are exchanged, so imagine Xander's surprise when he discovers that Jonah is the new guy at his fire station.
The chemistry between the main characters is explosive. Xander and Jonah are very likeable characters.
For a short story, Ms Harper packed a lot into the book. This is a low angst, sexy read which I would definitely recommend.

Square One was an awesome read. I love JJ Harper's book but I think I found a new favourite. This story is well written, full of emotion and very full of steamy bits. I couldn't put it down.

Zander and Jonah share not one but two, one night stands. Having never exchanging names they come face to face at work, several days after their last escapade, everything heats up from there.

Their relationship moves fast, they share their stories, problems and their beds.

A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Review:

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

I liked this story once Xander and Jonah really got together, I liked that it started the morning after their firs one night stand so we know how everything was from the beginning. The beginning of the book is littered with inconsistencies about the characters from they never to repeats to they want what they have to be inclusive from the beginning and one even getting jealous form when they weren’t exclusive. I just don’t like when characters do the flip flop and after pushing things away jump right in like they never hesitated before.

Jonah and Xander quickly find their groove together, though I don’t actually know how much time passes throughout the whole book. I loved that Xander’s family quickly accepts and loves Jonah which he needs in his life. We never really get to know Jonah’s family just see his mom’s nagging through phone calls but it’s known they are not very supportive and it seems to me they are selfish.

I loved how Jonah helped Xander to accept himself after the accident and that it’s okay for someone to support you and see you vulnerable. I was glad to see Xander support Jonah through his ordeal also and hurt for Jonah at the lies and deception from his childhood friend. They really build a family together, I just wish there would have been some real closure with Jonah’s issues other than Kit suddenly becoming an important part of their lives.

The cover art by JC Clarke is nice but doesn’t have any real connection to the story.

An awesome read. So sweet, sexy & hot. Two firefighters, hello! It was perfect from the first page, a one time drunken hook up & sleepover to two then finding out he's your new coworker, so good. It gets better & better from there. It was a beautiful love story with a couple of surprises, so good. I really enjoyed this book & I loved Xander & Jonah. A TBR!

Hot firemen!

I loved this, not a lot of angst, a sweet romance with some drama occurring in the second half of the book, when a part of Jonah's past catches up with him. What's not to love? Two hot and sexy firemen together. Mm mmm. Xander and Jonah were a great couple.
