On the surface, this is a series about a high school student falling in love with her manager, who is around thirty years older than her. So the narrative could have been masturbatory wish fulfillment for older guys (like myself!), not that there's anything wrong with that, except that this series was written by a woman, and it's not actually a romance story.
As our protagonist we have Akira Tachibana, a tall, elegant, introverted high schooler who feels more mature than her peers, including her female friends. Most importantly she used to be a track runner, her one big passion, until she suffered one of those career-ending injuries on her Achilles heel. Ever since she feels deadened and aimless, but one day the manager of a family restaurant close to the hospital where she got her treatment serves her a coffee she hadn't asked for, so she could distract herself, I guess, until it stopped raining heavily and she could leave. This girl doesn't seem to have a father figure (I've seen most of the anime and I don't recall her having one), and she quickly became infatuated with this older guy and his random act of kindness. She started working part-time at the restaurant while she went to class in the mornings. Most of these details we discover them throughout this volume, but we are introduced to Tachibana-san as she tries to steal glances and figure out personal details of this forty-something year old guy who is disrespected by his staff, called a "stinky old fart" by another server of the protagonist's age, etc. We can tell that stuff hasn't gone great for the manager, although by this point we only know that he's a good guy, divorced and with a small kid.
The author did a good job showing subtly how the people around the protagonist don't understand her tastes, which is a significant part of why she can't connect with others. She never opens up to anyone in her group about this weird infatuation with a forty-something year old guy, but it clearly gives the protagonist a sense of stability, of safety and of normalcy that she desperately needs.
As part of this series not really being a romance story, I recall from the anime, the little I remember anyway, that this is a story about two people who never were able to pursue their passions bonding over their disappointment and frozen grief, supporting each other in ways that other people around them wouldn't understand.
I preferred the art in the manga to the one in the anime. The author's drawings are very elegant and often beautiful. She has a great sense of subtlety as well, allowing the readers to figure out the meaning for themselves from the juxtaposition of panels and the expressivity of the characters, particularly in Tachibana's case, because she's the silent type.
I look forward to reading the rest of this already completed series.

Nonostante avessi già visto le puntate dell'anime è stato bello ritrovare i personaggi nella versione manga.
I disegni sono molto curati e delicati, soprattutto per quanto riguarda Akira!

Translated as After the rain
Probably read this series like 4-5 times now, I really love it. On the surface level, it comes off as a weird fetishy romance novel with a high schooler falling in love with her 45 year old manager, but, well honestly idk what kind of story it actually is. A coming of age type story where Tachibana (the high schooler) matures and learns to overcome her previous traumas is my closest bet.
Everything in the story is used to cement this one idea, that it was never meant to be for the two of them. Or at least, they were never supposed to end up in a relationship with one another, no matter the circumstances. It’s not a right person, wrong universe type thing, they were only ever meant to meet for a certain time, learn from each other and move on. I really do buy into this idea, that you’re supposed to meet someone for only a certain amount of time, and in a sense, eventually your soul contract or whatever between you two runs out, and you’re not meant to have time with them anymore. That after this time, you’re meant to leave each other and turn to new horizons. Which is a scary idea, akin to death, to acknowledge that time is limited and that it’ll always end in a goodbye, it can make you cling to that person.
As the author says, “had she remained there, perhaps she could have found a small measure of happiness, even if she forgot all about her friends, and so, she fell in love with the blue summer sky after the rain had stopped”. It’s not that she wouldn’t have been happy continuing working with Kondou (the manager), but it would imply forgoing everything else. Would you choose to give up everything for this person that you love? In the end Tachibana chooses to leave, heal her leg and goes back to being a track athlete, to her normal social school life and presumedly she’s happy there as well. It’s frightening to have to sacrifice one thing you love for another, especially when this rut you’ve found yourself in becomes your second home, but it’s important to recognize that it was a rut and that you deserve so much more.
:( it’s a really cathartic story. But the idea that they were meant to seperate in the end is so sad too. And so right too. Everything points towards it. It was only a special set of circumstances that even allowed this interaction to exist from the start. And even then, when all lined up, they both knew it wouldn’t end up together. The biggest thing that hints to this theme:
Obviously, their age difference is a first indicator, a 45 year old can’t get with a 17 year old that’s weird. The both regularly have visions however of them being high schoolers together and they both fantasize multiple times of how things would be different if they were born at the same time, thinking, “it’s such a shame”. But they both know, even throughout, that these thoughts carry no value. At the end of each daydream, they are brought back to reality with someone calling them over, reminding her of her status as a highschooler with a promising future in track, and his status as a manager with his own kid. Even towards the end, Kondou has one last vision : he envisions himself in the library back in highschool writing his short stories. It’s raining outside so it’s an indoor recess. People are crowding more in the library than usual and he runs into Tachibana. She reads his short stories with no reaction and puts it down contemplating the rain, saying that her practice was cancelled and that she’s hoping that the rain would end soon, while he’s happy that the rains going on because he gets to talk with her. The rain was what allowed them to meet in the first place, but she has real prospects elsewhere, and once the rain would inevitably let up soon, it’d be her time to head back out onto the track, not to stay with him. What magnificent foreshadowing! In the end he couldn’t even fool himself in his own dreams. In the end, it wasn’t their age being the only problem as he tells himself that at first, it’s that they just weren’t meant to be in the first place, even if they were born in the same time and their age difference only served to reinforce that.
The two characters are so contrasting. Tachibana is so innocent while Kondou is, while the author only shows his cute pure side, it is extremely obvious that he is many times more mature and has experienced a lot more than Tachibana (cuz he’s 45 duh). The way they think is completely different fundamentally, Tachibana thinking that this is just LOVE ❤️, while Kondou understands that this is weird. Because of her love, she’s able to look straight past his circumstances, that he has a kid, that he’s way too old, that he doesn’t really have much of a future etc., while Kondou is rightfully confused why she loves him because he recognizes his own circumstances. At many times, Kondou laughs at what Tachibana says, finding the innocence of her words amusing until the very end. He’s reminded of her lack of knowledge and her vulnerability and finds the circumstances funny. In chapter 78, after they’re talking, she hands him a hand knitted scarf and he thinks to himself : “Unforgiving passion, a hand knitted scarf, once upon a time, I used to live in such a world too. But these days with a purity so high, I doubt I’d be able to even breathe at such heights”. To be able to perceive Tachibana’s recklessness through such a lens shows his “wisdom” as he is able to recognize the brashness of her actions while she can only say that she couldn’t help it (she slapped someone before this).
The age difference is off putting at first but it’s not a romance for sure and no random sexualizing of the teenager that always happens in mangas for no reason. The premise is eyebrow raising but it has a beautiful ending. Do read!

I really like the art, there's something old school about it.
Akira is a high-school girl with what someone would call a poker face or a resting-b*-face, aka she can be very expressionless and, therefore, misunderstood (I get you, girl, I get you).
She works a part-time job after school at a restaurant (diner?) where she finds herself developing romantic feelings for the manager, a divorced 45-year-old man with a young son.
So far, this is a pure story of one-sided accepting of the other love. The manager does not look at her in an improper way, for those of you who like to jump on the "p" word too easily.
There's a very introspective feeling about the manga.

Manga costumbrista con unos personajes principales bastante entrañables y escenas de humor bastante amenas. Hacía tiempo que no leía nada así y la verdad es que me ha hecho leerme el tomo entero de tirón cuando solo quería echar "un ojo" a un par de capítulos. Con ganas de ver la evolución de la historia~

I heard this was good, it even had an anime adaptation, but I was wary of it because of how a seinen manga can depict a May-December romance. I was avoiding the cringe factor of it all. But once I started reading, it was actually pretty good. Especially in how it was illustrated and the author's style, any potential cringe could come out as cute.
So far, I have no regrets starting this read.

Akira ist anders.
Zu Beginn des Mangas brauchte ich ein paar Seiten um zu verstehen, wie anders sie ist. Akira redet nicht viel, weil sie einfach nichts zu sagen hat. Sie mag nicht die selben Sachen, wie die anderen Mädchen, kann nicht so tratschen wir ihre Freundinnen in der Klasse und versteht auch nicht, was so interessant an den Jungs sein soll. Das ist auch kein Problem für ihre Mitschüler, sie mögen das ruhige Mädchen trotzdem, auch wenn sie sie nicht immer verstehen.
In einem ruhigen Tempo lernen wir Akira immer besser kennen und zuerst war ich etwas, naja, entsetzt. Was soll bitte an ihm attraktiv sein? Warum verguckt sich so eine stille Schönheit in solch einen Mann? Allein die Dinge, die sie an ihm mag sind abschreckende Beispiele!
Ab da war schon mein Interesse geweckt und sie ist auch eine Person bei der man nie weiß was als Nächstes kommt. So konnte sie mich alle paar Seiten überraschen, sei es mit ihrer Art (sie zieht oft grundlos einen ernsten Blick, der zu Missverständnissen führt) oder mit ihrem Handeln (viel impulsiver als man denkt!).
Auch die anderen Personen konnten alle bei mir Punkten aus verschiedenen Gründen. Ich denke, die Autorin hat ein Händchen dafür ansprechende Charaktere zu gestalten, weil selbst die Nebencharaktere aufleuchten und mein Interesse gleich wecken konnten. Neben der ruhigen Geschichte, gibt es einige kleinere humorvolle Momente, die mir besonders gut gefallen haben und das war auch nötig, denn der Manga hat einen melancholischen Unterton, da Akira sich gerade in einer schweren Zeit befindet. Es ist nichts, was direkt geschrieben wird, sondern was man zwischen den Zeilen heraussehen und lesen kann und vieles hängt mit ihrer Verletzung zusammen, wegen der sie das Laufen aufgeben musste. Auch andere Dinge sind zwischen den Zeilen geschrieben, das heißt jetzt nicht, dass er schwer zu lesen ist, sondern nur, dass es Details gibt, die ergeben beim genauen lesen einen viel größeren Sinn – nur damit ihr vorgewarnt seid.
Im Grunde ist es eine sehr gelungene Mischung aus Slice of Life, Drama und Liebe, doch auf eine sehr individuelle Art mit einem besonderen Zeichenstil. Der Stil von Jun Mayuzuki hat einen altmodischen Charme, besonders bei dem Manager des Lokals kommt das gut durch und mit den kleinen Details an den Personen und in den Hintergründe konnte sie mich völlig überzeugen.
Den Manga After the Rain empfehle ich jedem Leser von romantischen Geschichten, die auf der Suche nach besonderen und unüblichen sind und sich gerne überraschen lassen. Gekonnt wird hier eine interessante Liebesgeschichte mit hohen Altersunterschied erzählt, sehr unschuldig und zart mit der richtigen Prise Humor und vielen unterschiedlichen Nebencharakteren. Die Reihe werde ich auf jeden Fall weiter verfolgen, bzw. ich kann es kaum abwarten weiter zu lesen und mehr von Akira zu sehen!

Akira Tachibana trabaja a media jornada en un restaurante, compaginando esta actividad con el colegio. Entre los trabajadores hay otros jóvenes en su misma situación. Sin embargo, quien despierta su interés es el jefe del negocio. Poco a poco van aflorando recuerdos de la actividad de Akira en el club de atletismo, como una de las mejores marcas del equipo, en el que dejó de participar cuando se lesionó el talón de Aquiles.
Esta es una reseña de la obra completa.
Para analizar bien esta compleja obra, dejemos claro que no es una historia de amor. Se vende así en la sinposis porque es cierto que comienza como un romance y que este hecho abarca parte de la historia. Pero no lo es, es mucho más interesante. Sin desvelar demasiados datos, la historia trata realmente sobre los sueños de cada uno y la relación que las personas tenemos con esas pasiones. Cómo aparecen y nos arrebatan, los pasos que damos por cumplir nuestros sueños y cómo esas pasiones pueden desaparecer por circunstancias de la vida, pero que en el fondo siempre permanecen latentes y pueden solaparse y confundirse con nuevas metas. De ahí el dilema de Akira, que es una enamorada del atletismo y que recuerda sus días de gloria en el club deportivo, pero que al verse desplazada por su dolencia lo empieza a mezclar todo con el restaurante y su jefe. Sirva esta apreciación para matizar que, en realidad, el amor no es la base de todo el relato.
Diría más bien que es un "slice of life" en suma con algunos toques de romance. Después se puede encontrar relleno, claro. Y, a la vez, no tanto. La historia incluye varias ramificaciones donde luego entran algunos personajes secundarios que distraen durante varios capítulos pero que no logran aplacar el dilema principal, a la vez que ayudan a su avance por momentos. El estilo del dibujo está bastante logrado, es sencillo y en los planos de la protagonista tiene especial fuerza, como si la autora lo pretendiese así, cosa que no dudo. La mayor fuerza de la serie es sin duda su protagonista. Al principio no cae demasiado bien porque parece que siempre está enfadada y es muy cortante con los demás, pero gracias a esos planos tan lentos de su rostro empezamos a ver que hay mucho más detrás de su conducta. Es ese potente imán el que puede llevar cómodamente al lector hasta el final de la historia.
Si bien no es una serie que busque trascender, puede enseñar algo importante y despierta simpatía.

Cómo aparecen y nos arrebatan, los pasos que damos por cumplir nuestros sueños y cómo esas pasiones pueden desaparecer por circunstancias de la vida, pero que en el fondo siempre permanecen latentes y pueden solaparse y confundirse con nuevas metas. De ahí el dilema de Akira, que es una enamorada del atletismo y que recuerda sus días de gloria en el club deportivo, pero que al verse desplazada por su dolencia lo empieza a mezclar todo con el restaurante y su jefe. Sirva esta apreciación para matizar que, en realidad, el amor no es la base de todo el relato.
Diría más bien que es un "slice of life" en suma con algunos toques de romance. Después se puede encontrar relleno, claro. Y, a la vez, no tanto. La historia incluye varias ramificaciones donde luego entran algunos personajes secundarios que distraen durante varios capítulos pero que no logran aplacar el dilema principal, a la vez que ayudan a su avance por momentos. El estilo del dibujo está bastante logrado, es sencillo y en los planos de la protagonista tiene especial fuerza, como si la autora lo pretendiese así, cosa que no dudo. La mayor fuerza de la serie es sin duda su protagonista. Al principio no cae demasiado bien porque parece que siempre está enfadada y es muy cortante con los demás, pero gracias a esos planos tan lentos de su rostro empezamos a ver que hay mucho más detrás de su conducta. Es ese potente imán el que puede llevar cómodamente al lector hasta el final de la historia.
Si bien no es una serie que busque trascender, puede enseñar algo importante y despierta simpatía.

J'ai vu passer beaucoup d'avis assez mitigés sur ce manga, qui d'ailleurs ne relevait pas trop du Shojo habituel et tout mignon : et c'est donc pour ça que j'en ai acheté le premier tome.
Une histoire d'amour assez malaisante vous me direz, bof, je vous répondrai. Est-ce bizarre qu'une adolescente tombe amoureuse d'un homme âgé ? Non ! En tout cas dans la société dans laquelle j'ai grandi, c'est acceptable et assez fréquent.
Ce que j'en pense ?
J'ai trouvé assez intéressant ce premier tome et je m'apprête à acheter le deuxième! Les deux personnages principaux m'intriguent et j'aimerai tellement en savoir plus sur leurs vies.

La différence d’âge est un peu étrange de prime abord, mais on ne peut qu’être attendrie par cette jeune fille et ses sentiments amoureux. Un joli début, mignon sans être niais !

Ich bin zwiegespalten.
Auf der einen Seite gefällt mir das Artwork richtig gut. Das liegt vermutlich daran, dass nostalgische Gefühle aufgrund der Ähnlichkeit zu Rei Hino aus PGSM aufploppen. Es sind aber vor allem die Panels in denen offensichtlich nichts passiert, aber am meisten erzählt wird.
Auf der anderen Seite sind da die beiden Hauptfiguren. Eine Highschool Schülerin, die in ihren 45jährigen Chef verliebt ist, wirkt erst einmal seltsam. Es kommt für mich nun darauf an, wie damit in den weiteren Bänden umgegangen wird. Solche Gefühle können entstehen und wenn es sich in in nichts auflöst, ist das in Ordnung. Geht es in eine andere Richtung, nun dann werde ich die Serie aus Gründen abbrechen.
Außerdem shippe ich Akira mit Haruka und will wissen, was es mit den beiden auf sich hat.

Magari è questo il segno! Ho passato più di metà della mia vita a leggere manga e adesso cose che farebbero inorridire un non-lettore di manga per me son normali.
Come una diciassettenne che si innamora di un uomo di quarantacinque anni, divorziato e con figlio a carico. E capirei se il quarantacinquenne in questione fosse un qualche esempio di successo. No, è un povero sfigato che dirige un semplice ristorante per famiglia senza possibilità di carriera.
Lei è un po' strana, non la solita protagonista di shojo (Soobie, caspita, questo non è uno shojo!). Mi piace molto il modo in cui l'autrice disegna gli occhi, specialmente quelli di Akira. Lui non so... Non è qualcuno con cui uscirei...
Ho recuperato l'intera serie. Appena arriva mi metto a leggerla!

Bellissimo manga di Jun Mayuzuki. Delicatissima la narrazione, matura, e coinvolgente. Racconta di sentimenti come poche altre volte ho letto in un fumetto.

Since I’m on withdrawal from from Mayuzuki’s ongoing Kowloon generic romance I decided to try other books from her.
I don’t think I would have tried this book based on the pitch only: a possible romance between a teenager and a 45 yo guy doesn’t appel much to me. But based on Kowloon I expected Mayuzuki’s sensibilities to mix it into something... different.
So far so good. Because somehow I’ve got the intuition this is actually not a romance. I think it’s something else. Don’t know what exactly yet. Two lonely people clumsily comforting each other maybe? Doesn’t matter. I already like both characters, the emotion and sensibility surrounding them almost palpable and I want to know where it’ll lead them.

Primera entrega d'una sèrie acabada publicada fa uns anys per Tomodomo i que té una adaptació d'anime (a Netflix només en VOSE, amb la qual cosa tocarà veure-la per internet). Tot i l'enamorament no correspost i la diferència tan bestial d'edat, m'ha despertat molta curiositat perquè ja es veu que no es tracta el tema amb morbo, sinó que s'aprofundeix en la psicologia dels personatges. Amb ganes de més!!!! :3

شعرت بعدم الراحة وأنا اقرا هذة المانجا . كما انني شعرت بالملل الشديد أثناء قراءتي .
أسلوب المانغا كان غريبًا بعض الشيء كما أن الشخصيات كان من الصعب الانسجام معها .
في المجمل سأعطي هذة المانغا فرصة ثانية اتمنى أن تكون باقي الفصول أفضل .

Le style de l'autrice est vraiment sympa, il a un petit côté old school qui passe bien.

Vielen Dank an den Verlag für das Rezensionsexemplar. Hier hat mich der Titel irgendwie angesprochen. Vorallem wollte ich wissen, wie viel vom Titel wirklich im Manga drin steckt. Aber der Titel hatte nicht wirklich was mit der Story zu tun. Aber die Story selbst war interessant und den Manga habe ich in einem Zug durchgelesen. Zuerst konnte ich mich nicht in die Protagonistin Akira hineinversetzen. Doch mit der Zeit wurde sie mir dann doch noch symphatischer. Akira arbeitet in einem Restaurant und jeder der dort arbeitet, hält den Manager für ein Langweiler. Bis auf Akira, den sie hat sich in den Manager verliebt, der um einige Jahre älter ist als sie. Doch sie kann ihre Gefühle nicht preisgeben und versucht sie auch vor den anderen so gut wie möglich zu verbergen. Den Akira ist in der Schule beliebt, das sie mal eine schnelle Läuferin war. Durch einen Unfall kann sie seitdem nicht mehr Laufen und ob sie das überhaupt noch kann, weiß niemand. Sie versucht daher so viel Zeit wie möglich im Restaurant zu verbringen, nur um in der Nähe des Managers sein. Er allerdings kann es nicht glauben, das ein so junges Mädchen wie sie, an so einem Verlierer wie ihm interessiert ist.
Der Manager Kondo ist wirklich ein symphatischer Charakter. Er ist liebenswert und macht sich sogar ziemliche Sorgen um Akira. Akira ist das genau Gegenteil von ihm und das nicht nur vom Alter her. Das war auch ein Grund, weshalb ich gespannt war. Die zwei Charakter, machen das Pairing wirklich interessant und es zeigt sogar, das Liebe kein Alter kennt.
Der Zeichenstil war etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber irgendwann vergisst man den Zeichenstil. Die Story rückt einfach in den Vordergrund. Es hatte auch einige witzige Momente und es war einfach offen und ehrlich, das es schon wieder gut war. Mir hat dieser Manga gefallen und kann ich auch wirklich weiterempfehlen. Ich bin schon gespannt, wie es in Band 2 weiter geht mit Akira und Kondo.

Nos cuentan la historia de Akira, quien antes era una atleta, pero debido a una lesión en su talón de Aquiles se ve forzada a dejar esto y es así como comienza a trabajar en un restaurante familiar. En el transcurso de su empleo como camarera sus sentimientos hacia su jefe van surgiendo. El jefe del restaurante lleva una vida honesta a sus 45 años, divorciado y con un hijo menor, apasionado por la escritura pero frustrado al no poder continuar su sueño.
Las historias de ambos se ven unidas en el momento que Akira declara su enamoramiento a su jefe, las circunstancias los ven obligados a pasar tiempo juntos, es así como empiezan a conocer más del otro y poco a poco curar sus heridas y miedos juntos.
Opinión personal: Esta historia es de las que realmente me encantan, el trasfondo de los personajes y como ese "enamoramiento" ayuda a ambos personajes a encontrar su verdadero camino. La historia en sí realmente te deja un sabor de boca bastante extraño, en el buen sentido. Toco mi corazón el como ambos se daban cuenta de sus sentimientos.
El único "problema" que tuve era la diferencia de edad entre ambos, 17 y 45 años, aunque en una parte me gusto como al final colocaron partes de "que pasaría si él tuviera 17 años". Sin duda el final del libro de una forma u otra te deja con bastantes esperanzas.
