Love In Kona #1

Pull Me Under

Rate this book
Kai is the moon and my body’s the tide.

His fingers skim the nodes of my spine, cup the shells of my hips. Pull me to the summit, where the tallest waves finally break.

Where water meets sky, just before the crash.

When a stranger saves Mollie’s life on the beach her first night in Hawaii, they find themselves drawn to each other by a force they can’t explain.

Falling for Kai is crazy: the last thing Mollie needs is to tumble headfirst from one doomed crush into another. But a one-week fling sounds like paradise.

No strings. No baggage.

Which is perfect, because Kai is carrying plenty.

* * *

Kai used to love his family’s business. The hotel was small, manageable, fun—until his brother drowned, right in front of him.

Now Kai is set to inherit a giant resort he doesn’t want, stuck in Kona forever. It’s a fate he’s never challenged.

But that was before she came along.

As the days tick by, Kai and Mollie realize they can’t fight the pull between them. But the only thing crazier than falling for somebody after only a few days…is doing it when one of you will be gone in just a few more.

Pull Me Under is a novel of instant and inescapable attraction, the beauty and burden of familial loyalty—and the heartache and loss that can find all of us at any time, anywhere...even in paradise.

This is the first book in the Love in Kona series. It has a happy ending and can be read as a standalone.

I read an ARC copy of this.

I enjoyed this book. I liked how the characters grew in this book. Needless to say they both had some issues to deal with. Thankfully by meeting each other it was able to help. I was glad that everything worked out. My only complaint was that we didn't get an answer in the epilogue. Sure, it was probably yes but I really do prefer to be told. Other than that this was an enjoyable read.

A group of college friends take a trip to Hawaii after graduation. One final summer together before going on their separate ways in the real world. Mollie knows this is her final chance to tell her crush that she has feelings for him, in hopes he will reciprocate those feelings. When she gets drunk she gets the courage to talk to him, but things don't go exactly as she had hoped. After running off on her own, she winds up wandering the beach and ends up in the water. Not the best situation for a drunk girl to be in. Kai's family owns the resort and was heading his way home along the sandy beach when he spots something in the ocean. After realizing he's not hallucinating he quickly swims out to the person and pulls her in. That's their meet-cute.

Both characters have things from their past that they are struggling to get over. His demons are more powerful than hers, but both play a role in their relationship (if that's what you can call this summer fling... she is after all, only on the island for about a week.) I really liked Kai's character. He felt more real and true to life. Mollie came off slightly less so. Not necessarily bad, but she seemed more immature for her age in comparison to him. Just with her thought process and some of the comments she made, especially early on in the book. I liked the side characters as well. Her BFF was the fun party type of girl who pushed Mollie to do things, but wasn't a bit*h about it. She really cared for her friend. And Kai's family was just as real as he himself.

As for the story/plot itself. I enjoyed it, and watching the two struggle to decide what they were to each other and what they wanted out of the relationship, and in life in general. There was some miscommunication that couldn't ended things sooner, and there was that great break up scene before the final grand gesture. There is plenty of steam throughout the entire book as well. To keep things hot. (Also making this book suitable for mature readers.) I was a little let down with the ending and the epilogue. It felt abrupt. After all the indecision that went on with the characters in the book, the ending seemed anti-climatic. I would have liked to have had a little more insight to the story after Mollie leaves the island. (You just get a quick peek.) Though I believe this is the first in a series, so maybe we'll see more in future books. (Even if they just play a minor role in those books.)

Saved By Kai🏄

College is over for Mollie💃💋, and with it her last chance to get together with Damian, the young man she's been crushing on for the last four years. The graduates are taking a week vacation as a group and going to Kona, Hawaii, to a beach resort. Mollie💋💃 sits next to him on The ✈plane, but is tongue tied.

Once at The resort, Mollie💋💃 drinks too much at the luau, which finally loosens her tongue. She asks Damian to go for a walk on the 🌴beach that 🌙night, and she kisses him, or tries to.

Damian finally man's up and tells her he's gay! He was just using her to test himself that one time they did some heavy petting. He knew she would let him. He's a user!

Mollie's world 🌎 is shattered in an instant. She runs away and Damian does nothing but turn around and go back to the resort🌴. No I'm sorry, no nothing.
Mollie💋💃 is so drunk she decides to wade out into the ocean, and soon she is tired and cold, and drowning. Is she trying to kill herself?
Kai🏄, the older son of the resort owner, just happens to be going home along the beach after his bartending shift. He sees her arm come out of The water and 🌙moon shining on it. Kai 🏄is a wonderful 🏄surfer and strong 🏊swimmer, and he saves her.

Mollie💋💃 is not breathing but Kai🏄 resuscitates her, and goes to The hospital with her. Afterwards, they begin a romantic💕 fling, even though they both know it Will be over when she leaves.
Both of these young people have been broken💔 by circumstances In their lives, but maybe together, they can make a whole.

ARC Received for a Voluntary and Honest Review.
I also got the book📑 with KU.

The only problem I had with the book📑 was the sexual proficiency of the two young people was way over and beyond what their actual experience would have been at that age, especially for Mollie. But hey! This is romantic fiction!

This isn't the first book by Piper Lennox I've read, but this is definitely my favorite one so far. Mollie is on vacation in Hawaii and, after a bit of bad luck in the love department, decides to have a week-long, no-strings-attached fling with Kai, the hotel owner's son. But when things take an unexpected turn for both Mollie and Kai, will they be able to continue with their plan or will Mollie leave paradise with more than with a broken heart?

I loved Pull Me Under - Piper Lennox gave us great, early-20s characters who had personality but also evolved as the story went on. Lennox took the "summer romance" trope and gave it conflict that left the reader guessing how it would end until the epilogue. Piper Lennox's writing is always spot on so, coupled with characters like Mollie and Kai, Pull Me Under is a great read for anyone wanting their own little paradise romance.

Sweet and sexy in Hawaii

Pull Me Under by Piper Lennox is a beautiful story! I loved the storyline, characters, and setting. The only way this story could have been better for me would be if I had actually been in Hawaii while reading it!
I appreciate that while the setting is a tropical paradise, the characters are well rounded, typical and average young adults. Their budding love is explored in a realistic and mature way while allowing the romance to blossom and grow. Kai and Mollie captured my attention and heart right away and held me captive to the end. Their story is heartfelt, emotional and real.
Overall, a well written book I loved reading that explores how a vacation fling can become something real and lasting if given the chance, which for this romance reader is a HEA.

Loved it!!! This book evoked such strong emotions from me! I was so saddened and heartbroken when I learned Kai’s story. I couldn’t help but feel for him! His dad definitely made me angry. After learning what Damian had done, I was furious! I kind of wanted to shake Mollie a bit. He really was a selfish, heartless jerk!
Despite everything they had going against them, Kai & Mollie just made sense. This book was so well written that even though all the obstacles were quite obvious, you couldn’t imagine them not being together. They just fit together so well.

This is the first book by this author I have read and I am impressed. The story-line was well developed and the characters were "real". Both Kai and Mollie had things in their pasts that have shaped the way they are. After Kai saves Mollie, the two engage in a "vacation fling". What will happen at the end of the vacation? Will Kai's past continue to rule his present and future? Is there a chance for a HEA for a long distance relationship?

Sometimes the past and fears can block something great in the future and it's great to see Kai and Mollie get past a feeling of being stuck in their lives. The chemistry between the two, and the attraction is strong, but neither one of them is looking for a relationship. It's a perfect time to see them become stronger people and really come together. A wonderful plot, and amazing characters make this read a must have to me. This is a voluntary review of an advance reader copy. A lovely journey that I highly recommend.

This is the first book in the Love In Kona Series and can be read as a standalone. The story is based in Hawaii where Kai's family owns a resort. He and Mollie meet when he saves her from drowning. Both are wounded souls with issues and seem to help heal each other. Lots of family dynamics, plenty of drama and some steamy scenes make for an enjoyable story. I thought this was another good book by Lennox. Mollies goes to Hawaii with a group of her friends, and hopes to get some closure on a guy she's liked for so long. Kai saves Mollie from drowning and the two hook up for the remainder of her stay in Hawaii. It turns out "no-strings" is not as simple as they thought. POV from both Mollie and Kai. I thought it was well-written in that I could really see both of their personality shine. Good back story in both characters.

I enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and the underlying story line of the family drama. The characters found love when they were least expecting it, with those they least expected it. Looking forward to more from these characters. Full of passion, family drama, heartache, finding a way to move on, and love.

I loved Mollie and Kai so much! They both have great stories and I couldn't put the book down. Kai is so full of emotion and pain, so sweet too. Mollie has strength and this self doubt that had my heart twisting. Their story flows, kept me very interested and I'm hoping to read more about Luca!

A sweet story. Both characters have to grow, to mature and develop into who they are going to be. Each is dealing with issues from the past. Pain and heartache. Strength is required to keep moving forward. To hope for a better tomorrow and to work towards dreams that are yet to be discovered. Love blooms and grows quickly yet time and distance is required. Good start to this series.

Two characters who have a lot of emotional baggage. I didn't really connect with Kai and Mollie and thought the storyline was a bit predictable. I've only read a few books by Piper Lennox. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Paradise Port

Who wouldn’t want to visit a place called Paradise Port?! This book is about so much more than a vacation fling, and who knew what all could happen in one week in Hawaii? Great book—can’t wait to read Luka’s story!
