I read the previous edition and found this edition to have even more helpful information about the disease and the guaifenesin protocol. Essential information for anyone with fibromyalgia. Even if you don't follow the guaifenesin protocol this is incredibly helpful for understanding your symptoms and trying to find methods to cope with them. However the guaifenesin protocol is possibly the greatest breakthrough ever found for this disease and I encourage all suffering from it to give it a try.

The authors could really use a better editor and/or a ghost writer. The books is too repetitive and doesn’t do a great job clearly explaining the program. Also, you need to make it more clear that this isn’t a major change of diet before going into all the things you have to remove from your life. I thought you guys were saying a no-plant based diet until I went to your website. Please make this change in the next edition.

With that said I will be honest that I didn’t finish this. I read through the chapters about the medication you should be taking and all the things you have to removed from your life, so I feel like the rest will be for people who feel they could make those changes. Frankly, after looking at the few skin, hair, and personal care products I could use, I was priced out of this protocol. Also, it has taken me years to find products that my skin and hair like and makeup that doesn’t make me breakout. If I followed this protocol, I would have to start back at 0. This also makes me remove things that help me feel good about myself. While feeling better would be good, I feel like I am trading one bad situation with another. Self esteem is something I struggle with and makeup makes me feel good about myself. I am pretty sure my therapist would agree with me that mental health is just as importantly as physical health.

I have tried and failed in the past to really understand this protocol as set forth in the book. I thought I knew it, but my own fibromyalgia brain, fog and negative anticipations, kept me from reading it from cover to cover and understanding how to successfully negotiate the protocol. Now I understand and am stepwise embracing the complete protocol. Nothing else has worked, and I know I do have genetic mutations in the detox department. This book is a tremendous blessing for all of us who suffer from this life-destroying disease.

A comprehensive resource
This updated 4th edition has an in-depth description of all aspects of fibromyalgia - muscle pain, fatigue, IBS and other chronic conditions. This is the only book I’ve found that suggests treatment for fibromyalgia that reduces drug dependency and offers alternative medicines. Surprisingly, guaifenesin is cited as a solution that eliminates or reverses symptoms. This solution does not come without a fair share of complexities.

I originally read this five years ago - it changed my life. Actually, it gave me my life back. After a fraught couple of years and relocation to a new country, I've started to struggle. So time to open up the book again, this time to refer to in order to select my new diet and toiletries.

Somewhat useful - as I read it became one big long sales pitch with very little info on the diet to follow or the thing you had to avoid.
