When you’re starting or you just want to learn about magick, it’s always amazing find someone to lean on to share their knowledge with you and make it a wonderful path. This book it’s exactly that. A companion full of information, perfectly explained, direct but concisely put down in words. I think it’s magnificent that the author took the time to start with the basics and work her way from that.
It was fun and informative, two adjectives that usually don’t get along.
I continue to enjoy these introductory books to magic. While I don't really want to enchant anyone into being in love with me, I do like knowing how I can fit little bits of magic into my life. For me this book was similar to those cook books that promise recipes that can be completed in a short amount of time. Even if you don't have a lot of time, you still want nice food. Even if you don't have a lot of time, you still want to engage in the craft.
Alexander starts with the basics and builds you up from there. The book covers a variety of topics, from candle magic to tarot to love spells. While my interest doesn't particularly lie in spells that affect change in others, I nonetheless found a lot of things in this book very interesting.
“10-Minute Magic Spells” by Skye Alexander is a wonderful collection of everyday spells. Love, protection, luck, tarot, candle and crystal spells are just some of the topics the author explains in this well written book.
It was refreshing to read a book where the author starts out with the basics in spell casting and a short history on magick. She then builds up the readers confidence throughout the book , to be able to perform a variety of life enriching spells. The author also includes several examples on how to create a circle before spell casting and the tools that you will need. The spells in the book were very enlightening, and easy to conjure for beginners. There are so many different magickal topics and charts for color use in magick, types of crystals and tarot cards to use in different spells and essential oils in conjuring, that this is also a great witchy reference book for everyday life. It was a pleasure to explore all the magickal information that the author, so graciously bestowed upon the reader. #10minuteMagicSpells #NetGalley
A wonderful introduction to new age/wicca/witchcraft/paganism however you see it or call it. This is a wonderful little book for the beginner, well organised, clearly explained and appealing in design and content. A great introduction and even a good refresher maybe if you hadn’t practiced in awhile
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
This was a nice introduction to magic spells for those who are unfamiliar with it and with quite a few spells. If one wants to go more in depth, I would find some other books, but at least it's a nice beginning.
Today I'm reviewing 10 Minute Magic Spells - Simple Spells & Self-Care Practices to Harness Your Inner Power by Skye Alexander. Release Date: May 9, 2019 ISBN: 9781592338818
Generally I like to start out with a disclaimer. I am an contemporary witch. I look for the connection between magic and science without the need to search for a creator. I receive no compensation for these reviews and all my links are standard Amazon links and not affiliate links. I am a practicing photo reader and have spent the last 16 years honing my craft. I offer personal readings by request and have a strong online history that boasts nearly 400,000 views.
Starting with a review of the physical book, I will say this is a well bound book. I received a hard copy to review without a dust jacket. The images are more like clip art in the book vs. illustrations and have a lean towards the color gold. I like the simplicity and the directness of the images and appreciate the color scheme. It includes a short but directed index as well as a list of resources at the end which in my opinion are key to any decent reference book.
This book is broken up into sections on not only the tools of the trade but also on specific spells for love, luck and happiness as well as health and well-being. One of my favorite topics being health and well-being. The first few chapters, on the surface appear to be quite elementary but I can say that once getting into them, I found them to be be quite deliberate and full of amazing information. It is rare today to find a book that will try to not only share a spell or two but also provide a look inside the mind of the mystic and show just how magic is created. Then the cursed references to "dark magic" begin. Ah well, it can't be all the things, now can it?
I really enjoyed the sections on Mind Over Matter and found the tables provided within quite useful. Even the part on magical ethics was written well and provided a very basic understanding of the ole what goes around comes around take on life. Part one of the book continues with information on casting circles, working with deities and the like.
Section two gets into the main part of the book, the magic spells! From using Tarot cards for love to or a talisman for success, this book offers the reader a nice list of spells to choose from. Personally I like to add my own bit to making magic, but there is nothing wrong with using the words of another witch to get the job done. One way or another, your intention is what finishes that spell work.
Overall a really great book for a beginner and I feel the seasoned witch may like to have this on hand to pass down when the time comes.

I received an advance review copy through Netgalley. This does not affect my rating or opinions.
I'll be honest, I've never been a huge believer in magic - though I do try to keep an open mind, and I do believe in luck and the possibility of higher power(s). That said, I probably won't be actually trying any of these spells anytime soon (also because, despite the disclaimer that you don't need special tools or ingredients to perform spells, few of the included spells can actually be done without gathering specific things that I don't happen to have on hand); they do seem simple enough, and almost all are definitely doable in 10 minutes or fewer.
The writing is straightforward and appealingly conversational, which I do like. However, there are a lot of seemingly arbitrary historical / linguistic / scientific facts - they kind of serve as introductory sentences for the section, but their relevance isn't expanded upon. And speaking of relevance, the illustrations throughout this book are pretty but don't really seem to serve much purpose beyond decoration. Superficially they're related to the passages around them, though for the most part they don't add to the reader's understanding (though in some places they could, for example when describing sigils and runes) and in fact kind of break up the flow of information. So again, they're aesthetically pleasing, but not well incorporated.
One of my biggest pet peeves has always been "See my other book for more details about [topic being discussed]" - especially in a guide that's supposed to be accessible! I do understand the desire for brevity and focusing on the main ideas, but if these details are really as important as the author claims, then they should be included for the reader's convenience.
This is a very interesting book. It does go more towards the beginner but is useful even to the seasoned person. First thing you need to know this is not a book of card tricks and pulling rabbits out of hats type book. This is spells not tricks. I hate to call it witch craft but for back of a better calling thats what I am going to go with.
The book is broken down into 2 parts. The first part is very important especially for the beginner. It gives you the tools you need to make the second part of this book work for you. The second part being the spells themselves. Part one is the basics of magic, how to use it and how to get the results you seek, as well as special tools used by witches and wizards. Par 2 has the spells. These spells are made to fit into a 10 minute time frame. Some spells require more tools or items then other. More planning is needed as well. Others are little more than a basic candle and a chant.
The spells in this book are white magic. There are no spells to hurt an enemy or anything like that. The spells cover love spells, prosperity, wellness, and luck mainly.
As with any book dealing with spells. You do need to take it seriously.
I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com and chose to leave this review.
* I was given a copy of this for free through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*
I really adore this cover. It's kind of ominous, but draws you in at the same time. It definitely feels a bit witchy. There are illustrations throughout the book that keep it engaging. The writing is straightforward without being condescending. It is broken down into two parts, and it strongly advises you read the first part before going onto part two where the actual spells are. It gives a great overview of what is going to be needed and what you, as a person, need to do to prepare. I, personally, haven't tried the spells though, so I don't know if they actually work. I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars. A great book for a beginner.
10 Minute Magic Spells by Skye Alexander is a lovely little book.
It consists of 2 parts. The first is an introduction to magic and the whys and wherefores of how to do it and with what tools. The second is the spells. These are as it says simple and easy to do following the instuctions from Skye.
Having read a lot of Esoteric books in the past I really enjoued this one. It was clear and concise. The author was very helpful with further reading links thoughout. This book would suit someone who is interesting in spell casting for the first time or as a great reference for those who already know the background and want to learn a bit more.
Thanks to NetGalley and Fair Winds Press for allowing me to read this book. (All views are my own)
Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book for review. My opinions are my own. I highly recommend this book for all that are seeking to improve on their spell casting. The author has formatted the book into sensible sequences that cover each spell in its entirety. These are all white magic spells that anyone can easily use. I especially enjoyed the historic information at the beginning of the book. As a new spell casters this is the prefect book for me and one I will refer back to to create spells. The author includes list of ingredients that are sensible and easy to assemble Very well done to the author. Cross posted review on Amazon, Good Reads and Net Galley .
Okay now tell me who didn’t love that movie teen witch and wished you could also wield magic or watching The Craft as an adult? I know I did, wishing I could use magic to help through my daily tasks. Well this is a different kind of magic that gives guidance on how to attract your secret crush, bringing in good luck, and other things. So if you’re into Spell Casting this book is for you.
I don’t know if the spells really work. I just read the book I didn’t try any of the spells. I just thought it was an interesting read.
Curiosity brought me to this book. Other than being fascinated with magick and practitioners, I have no other authority to provide a critical reference.
If you are a practitioner, this guide seems to have it all. It's like a little recipe book for magick with items you need to cast a spell and when you should do it as well as finding the right frame of mind. It covers a wide range of spells.

10-Minute Magic Spells does the same thing that 10-Minute Crystal ball does in that it teaches you techniques that are easy to follow and only take up ten minutes of your time. Here you are taught to use quartz crystals to protect yourself and your home, as well as, make love charms to attract a new love.
Another introduction book by Skye Alexander, similar to her other book - 10-minute crystal ball. The reader is introduced to to celestial cycles, earth magic, tools and other topics. You do get some charts/lists like candle colours. Nicely put together.
Not a bad read, if a bit repetitive. Though a bit dogmatic on the morality front, it’s a good stepping-off point for learning how to personalize spells and rituals.
10 Minute Magic Spells is a greta introduction to the world of spellcasting and witchy things. It goes over the basics in ritual tools, spellcasting and magical associations in a easy to follow, approachable way. A newbie to this world would not feel intimidated to do one of these spells or like they were not "skilled" enough. If you are more experienced as I am this book didn't give me a lot of new information, hence why I'm giving it 4 stars as I feel like I am not the target reader. Still, I would have love to have had this book as a beginner witch.

10-Minute Magic Spells: Simple Spells and Self-Care Practices to Harness Your Inner Power by Skye Alexander certainly lives up to its title. Each chapter is divided thematically and contains spells, self-care practices, and other tips that can be completed in a short amount of time to enhance your life. The spells are specifically designed to be easy to complete and typically incorporate tools and ingredients that can easily be found at your local grocery store, your pantry, or just laying around the house. Several of the themed chapters focus on love magic, prosperity, protection, and more!
This book is perfect for someone who is just getting their feet wet when it comes to witchcraft. If you don't have a lot of time, money, or space to dedicate to your craft yet or you want to play around before fully devoting yourself to Witchcraft, you'll probably have a lot of fun with this book. If you're a more advanced practitioner, however, it is unlikely that you'll be satisfied with this book.
I completed reading 10-Minute Magic Spells within about two days; it is incredibly short and does not give much explanation into the intricacies of the Craft. This is a good thing if you're just looking for spells and activities to add to your witchy repertoire, but may be disappointing if you're hoping for more explanation into why things work the way that they do.
I did have a few issues with 10-Minute Magic Spells. There is a bit of cultural appropriation within this text, specifically with its use of mojo bags. Mojo bags are a magical technology found within hoodoo, not witchcraft, and are created differently from a generic spell sachet. I wish this text had simply called these mini-spells sachets rather than mojo bags because the book did not accurately depict them or their history.
Overall, I think 10-Minute Magic Spells by Skye Alexander is a simple, accessible text to help a non-witch or beginner-witch gain a deeper interest in the Craft. Since it does contain some cultural appropriation, I likely would only recommend this book if I knew the reader had a basic understanding of cultural appropriation and how to identify it. Many of the spells were very cute and put a smile on my face, so it would be a fun book to have on a shelf for a rainy day.
My Rating: 2/5!
10 Minute Magic Spells: Simple Spells and Self-Care Practices to Harness Your Inner Power is available for purchase online and in bookstores for $18.99.
A very good book, very useful for both beginners and more experienced users. I like Skye Alexander style of writing and how she manage to deliver a clear and engaging book. It's full of interesting ideas and hints. Highly recommended! Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
What a gem! This book is sure to be a great resource for those interested in bringing magick into their lives. What I really liked about this book is that the spells are practical and easily doable. No long list of hard to acquire ingredients, simple, concrete instructions and right to the point spells make up the bulk of this book. The author does a great job in differentiating the days of the week, cycles of the moon, colors and steps to preform these spells. 10-Minute Magic Spells is a quick read and not filled with bias from a particular practice. Although the author does state her wiccan beliefs in the beginning of the book, she does not interject them throughout. I loved the wide range of basic information provided in areas such as tarot spells, sigil spells, amulets and astrological correspondence. This long practicing witch found some nuggets to add to her BOS and will likely find herself gifting this book to others..
I really enjoyed this book and found it very insightful about magic and practicing spells. It would be a great introduction into this topic and it was full of so much great information. I really liked how the book was organized as it made it easy and enjoyable to read. As someone who has an interest in these type of books I would definitely want this on my self as a good reference book. to look back on. The spells were all really interesting and ranged from basic to more advance which I really liked. Thank you to NetGalley and to Quarto publishing for a chance to review this book before its release.
