Thanks to the creative team and NetGalley, i received a free copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
Even though this is a children/MG book, it was very educational for me, even though i read a lot of works with LGBTQ people present, i have not read enough informational books, to hammer in that aspect of our diversity as humans, i am always semi-clueless about LGBTQ history and the different terms, however many movies or novels or graphic novels that i read that include them, Which is why reading Non-fiction books is important in this case, because even though i have many LGBTQ+ friends, we never really talk about our sexuality or gender identities.

In Celebration of Pride Month i read this, and will read more, This is actually the first monthly celebration i decide to take part in, recent homophobic Arabic reviews or comments, really annoyed me, that i wanted to show another sector of us, maybe it is a small sector now, but i truly believe that it will grow and grow, and one day we will be able to defeat the ugly ghoul of homophobia in this part of the world too.

While i have a privilege of not being a Muslim anymore, i got rid of the religious induced homophobia years before i forsaken that religion, so it is possible even for Muslim people, to let go of that prejudice and ugliness, they just have to realize the harmful impact, that there despicable comments, might do on LGBTQ individuals or the hate that the community in general, feels from our part of the world.

I used to try and limit myself to certain fights that touches me personally, but now, i don't feel like that anymore, i feel i want to take on all the fights that are worth fighting over here, while i am still here, because i don't intend to remain here forever if i can help it.

To return to the book, First of all I loved Freddie Mercury on the first page, love love love that man, watching the movie Queen, turned me into a diehard queen fan, but a fan for Freddie specially, the guy was simply a genius, His voice was a thing of legend, and he could do that on stage all day, my favorite versions of his songs, are the ones that were sang in Live Aid 1985.

What i didn't know, James Baldwin, Michel Angelo, SIA, Virginia woolf, Tchaikovsky, Oscar Wilde, i didn't know any of them was LGBTQ, Some people who don't know Leonardo Da Vinci might not know he was also gay, but i knew this part, because of my obsession with him.

Who inspired me to no end, Manvendra Singh Gohil, Subhi Nahas, Harvey Milk, Willem Arondeus, Khalid abd-elhadi, These individuals impressed me with their Gutsy actions and strength, many others did actually.

If You are not safe outside, and you are not safe inside, you better run.

It was awesome to see a few Arabs or Muslims in there, LGBTQ community around here need amazing individuals like this, It doesn't matter, if you fight from inside the system, or provide help from outside, by helping refugees of LGBTQ community, your time will eventually come.

I will end the review with the amazing words of James Baldwin.

I received an eARC of this book through Netgalley, in exchange for my honest review.

The synopsis states that this book will "show children that anything is possible." Yet, they seem to have meant: anything is possible if you're gay, straight or bi. Oh, and I guess binary trans people exist too. For a book that states it's queer and LGBTQ+, it really isn't inclusive at all, and it completely erases everyone outside of the "LGBT", like non-binary and asexual people. Books like this really have me wondering if people understand WHY we write "LGBTQ+" instead of "LGBT" and that there's an important difference, namely: the promise to include ALL queer identities. Basically, this book might as well have said it's "LGBT", and that's just not good enough.

I did think it did a good job of including queer people of colour, so it wasn't all bad in terms of diversity. And for once, it did "at least" properly include bisexual people. But why should we be happy with the bare minimum rather than demand actual inclusivity? Another problem is that the first trans person was introduced only halfway through the book, and I counted no more than 6 trans people in total, out of the 53 people featured.

On top of this, while there was a little alphabetized glossary at the back that was a little more inclusive than the book itself, it was also very clear that some important queer terms were missing. A few examples that weren't included in the glossary are asexual, aromantic and non-binary.

This collection was really very basic and gave a very limited view of the LGBTQ+ community, which felt once again very alienating for me, like most books do that claim to be inclusive but fail. It's 2019, people, surely we can do better!

This wasn't bad but could've been better. Why call it LGBTQ+ when it's mostly just LGB with a little T? And only on trans man. No nonbinary people, asexual people ... Also it seems like "Random LGBT people" might be a better title. Also it mentions Sia, who made an offensive movie to autistic people and didn't listen to us autistic people at all, look it up if you want (and if you do please listen to #ActuallyAutistic people), however I am aware that happened AFTER this book was published, it just annoyed me as an autistic queer person, and I also don't think I would've understood why she was included anyway in "queer heroes", though she isn't the only one I thought that of hence "Random LGBT people" title. Also there got to be a point I got annoyed with all the typos.

However I can end on a positive note since I did really enjoy most of it, I learned about several LGBT people I didn't know of and hope to look up more (I made a list). I do think it's a worthwhile read though as an introduction. Not much of an introduction but an okay starting place.

This book is one of the only books I have ever seen that gave equal space to bisexuals alongside gays and lesbians. It identifies Freddy Mercury as bisexual. It identifies David Bowie as bisexual. It includes Kristin Stewart and her quote, "You're not confused if you're bisexual. It's not confusing at all. For me, it's the opposite."

It uses the word bisexual at all.

Yes, I wish there was more inclusion of non-binary, asexual and gray-sexual icons but I am crying over this book right now. I call this a win against bisexual erasure and that's enough for me right now.

I have read quite a few books of this style, mainly on women and I was excited to have a collection about queer people. Sadly, I found the selection to be lacking, the writing to be mostly so-so, and some of the illustrations looked like witches out of a cartoon.
The book is called queer heroes, but the selection would suggest a title like "random LGBT people". Some of the people portrait are/were activitsts, but some are not even LGBT for sure (Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Tchaikowsky). And then there are random LGBT people, who may by famous for different stuff and are, by the way, also queer. The "Q" in LGBTQ is only for show. There are no asexual, enby or other examples in this book, just LGBT.
I also wondered about the wiriting a lot. More than half the text about Alan Turing is about his education, only 4 lines describe his work on the Enigma code. His prosecution is described in the vaguest of terms. Other times I was confused because spouses are randomly called by first or last name, without making clear that "Karl" and "Allen" are the same person by the name of "Karl Allen".
I am so frustrated with this book. There are certainly some very interesting people in there, but some choices were just so meh. My boyfriend flipped it through when I was asleep and put a post-it note on the cover saying "Sir Ian McKellen is missing" - but thank God we have Frida Kahlo in there.

This is a beautifully illustrated book that tells the short biographies of 53 LGBTQ folks from history and the present. I love the fact that it features biographies of people outside of the the US and England, like Manvendra Singh Gohil, an Indian prince who became the first openly gay prince and faced terrible treatment when he came out, as well as famous LGBTQ people from Syria, Spain, Iceland, Israel, Australia, Rome and much more. The art is stunning and the tone is positive. Many bisexual people are included. Some trans folks are included but as other reviewers have noted, not a lot and there is a lack of non-binary and other inclusion. That said, this is a fantastic compilation of LGBTQ biographies that's sure to inspire.

A fairly inclusive introduction to queer heroes from history and the present. However, erasure of asexuality, nonbinary folks, and anyone outside the LGBT acronym keeps this from being a really great introduction and from being truly about “queer” heroes. However, the definition of queer from the glossary: “people who are attracted to people of the same gender,” gives a non-inclusive definition of queer and an idea of the heroes chosen for its pages. Still, the artwork is great and the book serves as a nice introduction for younger as well as older readers to some LGBT heroes worldwide, past and present.

This is such a beautiful book, the art and the colors in this book are amazing. This is definitely a book I wish I would've been able to read as a child and will definitely consider reading to my future children. Even as a part of the lgbt community I only knew about maybe a handful of the people in this book so it was a very educational and interesting read. It was very easy to read and perfect to read for kids and educating them on the subject.
There was a pretty good variation of people although I wish they would’ve included maybe some more sexuality’s other than just gay, bi and trans, also would’ve loved if they included non binary people.
Other than that it was really good and I’m very happy I’ve read it.

The best advice I have ever been given is to be the person I needed when I was younger.

Queer heroes is such a wondrous celebration of queer people.



It's vibrant with it's bright colours and artwork. It does an incredible job of capturing the brilliant triumphs and tribulations of queer people throughout human history in easily digestible, bite-sized offerings. It celebrates the wins and grieves the loses with respect and love.

This makes an incredible book to have on hand, to give to a young queer person just discovering their identity. Or a book to refer to whenever someone tries to tell you that LGBTQIAP+ people are some kind of 'new phenomenon'. It's definitely a book I'll be adding to my list wishlist because I'd love to have a physical copy on the shelf I have labelled as my Gay Gang shelf.

There are countless real-life heroes that I can learn from and love.

Zuerst einmal Danke an das Bloggerportal und den Prestel Verlag für dieses Rezensionsxexemplares!

Allein das bunte Titelbild hat mich schon angelacht und gleich gute Laune verbreitet. In der heutigen Zeit ist es zum Glück nicht mehr schlimm sich zu outen, weshalb mich einige der Geschichten doch sehr schockiert haben.
Vor allem als nicht LGBTQ+-Mitglied gab mir das Buch einen kleinen Einblick in die Lebensweise und die Probleme von nicht-heterosexuell interessierten Personen. Alle Geschichten haben mich wirklich sehr gerührt - die einen mehr als andere, aber sie alle waren auf ihre eigene Weise einzigartig.
Ich kannte natürliche einige Personen, die in dem Buch vorkamen, aber viele auch nicht, weshalb man immer wieder neue Persönlichkeiten kennenlernen durfte. Vor allem aber hatten/haben all diese Leute eine Sache gemeinsam: Stärke. Wie schon geschrieben haben mich einige Geschichten wirklich schockiert und ich bin froh, dass eine so normale Sache auch endlich als Normalität aufgenommen wird.
Das Leben der verschiedenen Personen wird kurz und interessant zusammengefasst und durch die vielen schönen und bunten Bildern macht das Lesen erst recht Spaß. Es ist von Künstlern über Sportler bis zu Popstars in jeder Kategorie jemand vertreten, doch am meisten hat mich die Geschichte von Josephine Baker begeistert.
Tatsächlich hatte ich nach der letzten Seite gehofft, dass noch ein paar Geschichten erzählt werden, doch an sich war es ein wirklich tolles Buch, das ich jedem empfehlen kann!

This book was absolutely gorgeous and had several people I had not heard of before, although it also featured many of the people you would expect in a book like this. I think it was a little bit bare bones but it is meant for children so I get that they wanted to keep things simple and also focus more heavily on the design element. I also think they did a good job with featuring a lot of POC. Unfortunately there weren't any people who were ace or genderfluid or really any identities outside of the basic 'LGBT' part of the LGBTQ they advertise in the title. This is not surprising to me at this point but as an ace person myself I'm getting kind of sick of it. I think it's a good starter book but definitely needs some supplemental material to cover the identities not mentioned here.

I want to LOVE this book but sadly there’s some problems with it that make it more of a 3.5 star rating. Mainly that it’s not as inclusive as it looks: it’s supposed to represent the “Queer”/ “LGBTQ+” community but sadly it only includes Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and a few binary Trans people. This means that non-binary, intersex, asexual, people and all other identities that are part of the Queer community aren’t spoken about in this book. An even bigger issue comes with the dead naming of one trans woman, saying her birth/ dead name and saying that she “lived as a man for many years” which I thought was not the best language to use. It is a really beautiful collection, the pictures are amazing and it’s diverse in terms of ethnicities as well but this just lead to me enjoying it a little less than I otherwise would

Mittlerweile gibt es eine ganze Menge Bücher auf dem Markt, die wichtige Vorbilder, Vorreiter, Friedenskämpfer und Außenseiter vorstellen, die ihrer Zeit voraus waren und sich für ihre Werte eingesetzt haben. Nach Büchern über Feminismus, Rassismus und anderem gibt es jetzt auch eine Sammlung an beeindruckenden Menschen, die sich für die Rechte der LGBTQ-Community eingesetzt haben oder es immer noch tun. Dabei sind nicht nur die Leben, die Herkunft und die Hautfarbe der ausgewählten Personen so bunt wie sie nur sein können - auch die Bereiche und ihre Art des Beitrags unterscheiden sich stark. Ob Künstler, Musiker, Schauspieler, Schriftsteller, Erfinder, Sportler, Politiker, Aktivisten oder Menschen, die sich unter kein Label packen lassen - sie alle haben einen großen kulturellen Beitrag geleistet und können den Leser*innen als Vorbild dienen.

"Sei der Mensch, den du gebraucht hättest, als du jung warst", schreibt die Autorin Arabelle Sicardi in ihrer Einleitung zu "Queer Heroes" und genau das ist wohl die wichtige Botschaft, die sich aus den 53 bündig geschriebenen Kurzbiografien mitnehmen lässt. Jeder kennt das Gefühl von Unsicherheit, Orientierungslosigkeit und Identitätssuche, wenn man an die eigene Jugend zurück denkt. Wie mag es dann erst Jugendlichen gehen, die sich selbst nicht mit den gesellschaftlich immer noch verbreiteten binären Geschlechtersystem identifizieren können und aus Angst vor Ablehnung ihre wahren Gefühle verleugnen? Da ist es umso wichtiger, dass die Präsenz und Sichtbarkeit von queeren Personen immer besser wird, da immer wieder viele mutige Menschen an die Öffentlichkeit gehen, ihre Geschichte erzählen und trotz Anfeindungen und Hindernisse ihren Weg gehen.

Zwar bin ich selbst ein heterosexueller Cisgender und deshalb kein Teil der LGBTQ-Community, dennoch haben mich die Lebensgeschichten dieser 53 Menschen inspiriert. Denn ein Vorbild für Offenheit, Mut und Toleranz kann jeder sein. Außerdem geht die Ausgrenzung, Diskriminierung und Benachteiligung von Menschen aufgrund ihrer Sexualität oder ihrer sexuellen Identität alle etwas an. Nur weil die Sichtbarkeit und Präsenz von queeren Personen im Familienkreis, im näheren Umfeld, oder in den Medien immer noch sehr gering ist, handelt es sich hierbei nicht um eine unwichtige Randgruppe, wie man durch die Vorstellung dieser zum Teil sehr bekannten, zum Teil eher im Hintergrund gebliebenen Menschen sehen kann. Dieses Büchlein ist ein großartiger Versuch, diese Held*innen der LGBTQ-Community zu ehren.

Zu einem wahren Hingucker wird das im Großformat gedruckte, dünne Büchlein aber durch die farbenfrohen, lebendigen Illustrationen von Sarah Tanat-Jones. Je auf einer reichlich verzierten Seite finden sich, neben dem Kurztext, ein Porträt der vorgestellten Person, ihre Lebensdaten und zentrale Motive ihres Lebens. Sehr toll ist auch das erklärende Glossar und die weiterführenden Links, die hintenangestellt sind, die unwissenden Laien wichtige Schlagworte wie zum Beispiel der Unterschied zwischen dem biologischen "sex" und dem gesellschaftlichen "gender" erklären.

Leider lassen sich in den Texten auffällig viele Tippfehler finden und an manchen Stellen war mir die Auswahl der 53 Personen nicht ganz klar. Natürlich entspricht sie der persönlichen Auswahl der Autorin, dennoch hätten mir hier manche Personen gefehlt, wobei einige nur unter der dünnen Annahme, dass sie vielleicht homosexuell gewesen sein könnten hier aufgenommen wurden. Nichtsdestotrotz kann ich dieses Büchlein nur von Herzen weiterempfehlen, da es nicht nur speziell queeren Menschen Mut macht, sondern auch allen anderen Lesern zeigt, was alles möglich ist, wenn man zu seiner eigenen Identität steht.


Fazit:

Kunterbunt, lehrreich, inspirierend - dieses Buch ehrt wichtige Held*innen der LGBTQ-Community, macht Mut und zeigt, was alles möglich ist, wenn man zu seiner eigenen Identität steht.

This is a bright, colorful book for young people to read about LGBTQ people of many countries, and many time periods, although, granted, many of the most famous ones are for the 20th and 21st century.

Some are well known in America, and others are more obscure, but are well known in the countries they come from. Some are famous for being queer, and others are famous for other things, such as dance or art, or singing.

All in all, a good representation of LGBTQ, although, as one reviewer pointed out, there aren't that many Trans people represented, as well as other spectrums of queer sexuality.





My only objection to this book is including people who were not out as being LGBTQ, and there is no way of knowing for sure, such as Leonardo Da Vinci or Michelangelo.

Auch wenn das Buch "Queer Heroes" von Arabelle Sicardi zuerst recht dünn erscheint, ist es sehr detailreich gestaltet und ein absolut schönes Buch.

Es werden 53 LGBTQ-Held_innen vorgestellt. Jeder Person ist eine Seite mit einer wunderschönen Illustration gewidmet, sowie einer kurzen Biographie. Diese Illustrationen sind das Highlight des Buches, meiner Meinung nach. Hier wurde sich sehr viel Mühe gegeben. Mir gefällt außerdem, dass die Bilder in unterschiedlichen Farben gemalt wurden, genau wie die Regenbogenflagge.

Außerdem umfasst das Buch verschiedene Held_innen aus unterschiedlichen Bereichen des öffentlichen Lebens, beispielsweise werden Schauspieler_innen, Sänger_innen oder Aktivist_innen vorgestellt. Die Biographien sind sehr kurz gehalten, demnach ist es die Art von Buch, in die man immer wieder reingucken und quer lesen kann.

Ein wundervolles Buch, was sehr anschaulich gestaltet ist. Ich empfehle es weiter! 5*

I went into this thinking I would probably know most of these queer heroes, and while I did, indeed, know many of them, there were also plenty of people I'd never heard of - or had heard of but didn't know they were queer! This is a fantastic book with plenty of history, and it's a great starting point for anyone looking to learn more about those who paved the way for us and fought for our rights.

This is a wonderful collection of lgbtq heroes filled with vibrant illustrations. It features people from different eras and from all over the world. I learned quite a bit. Highly recommended!

I appreciated the inclusion of diverse, international, historical and current LGBTQ+ icons. But, it felt like this book just stopped at LGBT and didn't dive into other current and historical queer icons.on the queer spectrum. I would've liked to see pansexual, asexual and non-binary queer heroes like Brendon Urie and Sam Smith included in this non-fiction collection. Also, just one trans man included? As a trans guy that put me off. I was waiting until the last 10 pages to get a trans man included for my own representation. I appreciated the illustrations of each person mentioned, the illustrations were stunning and I liked how they just added a short biography of important information. I'm grateful to have taken a LGBTQ+ History class in college, so I was already aware of some of the figures in this book. But, glad to have learned about new ones as well.

A gorgeous rainbow of historical and present day activists, Queer Heroes is exactly the type of book you want faced out on your shelves for the world to see. Sicardi's brilliant biographies combined with Tanat-Jones' stunning illustrations make this a must-read for the spring. I especially loved seeing Emma Gonzalez and Jazz Jennings representing the youngest generation of queer heroes.

I was really happy that this book included queer BPOC and non-Western people. But instead of including three long dead men with ambiguous sexuality, this maybe could have included more trans people and maybe even non-binary, intersex, aromantic and asexual people...

I liked the art style, thought. And this book introduced me to some people I hadn't heard of before.

Very confused by the limited selection of "heroes" in this book. Also a lot of people who where only "supposedly" queer are included. The book is not self explanatory enough to give to a child, the glossary is very limited, I also didn't like the illustrations.

Meine Meinung
Ich möchte mich immer mit den aktuellen Themen der Welt beschäftigen, wobei mir da Feminismus und die LGBTQ*-Community ganz besonders am Herzen liegen. Da kam mir das Buch von Prestel sehr gelegen, das sich mit 53 queeren Persönlichkeiten beschäftigt, die die Welt verändert haben und für mehr Gleichberechtigung ihrer Community gesorgt haben.

Wie gesagt werden hier die Geschichten von 53 verschiedenen queeren Persönlichkeiten dargestellt. Jede Person erhält dafür mindestens eine gesamte Seite, einigen wird auch eine ganze Doppelseite gewidmet. Neben Geburts- und eventuellem Sterbedatum und dem Geburtsort, findet sich zunächst eine kleine Erklärung zur Person wieder. Wer ist er/sie und für was ist er/sie bekannt? Danach wird die Sexualität der Person thematisiert, wie hat man gemerkt, dass man queer ist? Hierbei geht es allerdings auch um Persönlichkeiten, die sich keiner Sexualität zuschreiben möchten und wie sie ebenfalls dafür kämpfen. Und wie hat man sich bereits für die Rechte queerer Personen eingesetzt und was kann man von dieser Person lernen?

Die Personen reichen hier von Schauspieler*innen und Musiker*innen über Schriftsteller*innen bis hin zu Sportler*innen und Künstler*innen. Aus sämtlichen Zeitaltern, besonders viele allerdings aus der heutigen Zeit.

Unterstützt wird das ganze durch wunderschöne Illustrationen, sowie Karikaturen der Persönlichkeiten selbst. Das ganze Buch ist sehr bunt und farbenfroh gestaltet, was nicht nur schön für das Auge war, sondern auch die bunte Vielfalt der LGBTQ*-Community widerspiegelt. Allein für die Aufmachung könnte ich hier schon volle Punktzahl vergeben.

Aber natürlich war der Inhalt auch nicht ohne! Es war super inspirierend und motivierend zu sehen, wie viel eine einzelne Person häufig schon verändern kann. Viele Seiten haben mich hier mit den Erlebnsise verschiedener Personen wirklich zu Tränen rühren können. Aber gleichzeitig hat das Buch auch immer zum Lächeln gebracht da es ganz wunderbar aufklärt. Es zeigt, dass die Sexualität eines Menschen ihn nicht schlechter oder besser macht, sondern dass die Persönlichkeit das wichtige ist. Gleichzeitig zeigt es aber auch, dass queere Personen noch lange nicht gleichberechtigt behandelt werden, auch wenn wir auf einem ganz guten Weg dorthin sind.
Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass das Buch seinen Leser*innen Mut machen kann, selbst offen für seine Sexualität einzustehen und sich nicht mehr zu verstehen. Oder auch, sich für die LGBTQ*-Community einzusetzen. Ich werde mich auf jeden Fall mal informieren, wie man am besten helfen kann, dass für mehr Anerkennung und Gleichberichtung gesorgt wird!

Insgesamt fand ich es echt schön, wie viele verschiedene Persönlichkeiten hier vorgestellt wurden und natürlich fehlen hier auch noch einige, aber es war defintiv ein guter Einblick. Ich hätte mir allerdings auch gerne jeweils noch etwas mehr Text gewünscht. Bei vielen Personen habe ich doch noch mal nach gegoogelt, weil mir die gegebenen Informationen noch nicht ganz gereicht haben!

Fazit
Ein wunderschönes Buch, das nicht nur mit seiner fantastischen AUfmachung glänzt. Die Informationen zu den einzelnen Personen hätten ruhig noch länger sein können, doch als erster Eindruck war es wirklich schon sehr schön. Ich habe auf jeden Fall noch Neues lernen können!

In der heutigen Gesellschaft ist es glücklicherweise oftmals keine große Sache mehr, sich öffentlich als etwas zu outen, was von Heterosexualität abweicht. Noch immer sind nicht alle Barrieren beseitigt, die queeren Menschen das sorglose Ausleben ihrer eigenen Sexualität ermöglicht. Aber es wurden die richtigen Weichen gelegt: in der Vergangenheit gab es bereits zahlreiche Mutige, die sich nicht selten unter Einsatz ihres Lebens für die Gleichheit aller Menschen einsetzten, was Liebe und Geschlecht betrifft, und heutzutage zu Idolen der Toleranz herangereift sind. In "Queer Heroes" stellt die US-amerikanische Autorin Arabelle Sicardi eine Auswahl dieser Held*innen vor, um ihnen für ihren Verdienst zu danken und anderen LGBTQ-Mitgliedern die nötige Kraft zu schenken, bunt zu sein. Und zu sich selbst zu stehen.

In einem inspirierenden Einstieg zeigt die Autorin ihre Motive, aus denen sie das vorliegende Werk verfasst hat, und stellt somit einen berührenden persönlichen Bezug zu ihr her. Sie stellt hier insgesamt dreiundfünfzig Persönlichkeiten vor. Die Wahl fällt augenscheinlich jedoch etwas willkürlich aus, denn der Bezug zur LGBTQ-Community ist teilweise nicht klar erkennbar. Falls es sich hierbei um eigene Idole handelt, mit denen sie etwas verbindet, wäre eine Erklärung wünschenswert gewesen, was sie an ihrem Handeln so anregend empfindet und weshalb genau sie eine Stelle in dieser Sammlung verdient haben.

Die Gestaltung von "Queer Heroes" ist in allen Hinsichten ein wirkliches Alleinstellungsmerkmal: Die jederzeit kunterbunten Illustrationen von Sarah Tanat-Jones sprühen voller Freude an der kulturellen Diversität dieser Welt und machen beim Zusehen richtig Freude. Sie haben eine motivierende Wirkung, die mir ein Lächeln auf das Gesicht zaubert: Es ist schön, bunt zu sein!

Die präsentierten Kurzbiographien haben einen passenden Umfang, der einen Einsatz des Buchs bereits im Grundschulunterricht denkbar macht. Für junge Leser*innen ist "Queer Heroes" durch die prägnanten, knapp formulierten Texte und großen Bilder besonders gut geeignet. Sie können somit schon früh ein Bewusstsein entwickeln, sich selbst ausleben zu können und Stolz auf das eigene Menschsein zu empfinden. Und das ist eine wahrhaftig beflügelnde Botschaft.

Für mich wäre ein Resümee am Ende des Werks wünschenswert gewesen, das den Leser*innen Anreize für die Umsetzung im eigenen alltäglichen Umfeld gibt und die Wichtigkeit, füreinander da zu sein und sich gegenseitig zu akzeptieren, nochmals unterstreicht. Insgesamt kann ich hier dennoch eine definitive Leseempfehlung aussprechen, denn man kann mit diesem Buch seine helle Freude haben. Es ist eine sehr wichtige Lektüre, die v.a. einem jungen Publikum wichtige Werte vermitteln und somit dem Hass gegenüber Neuartigem präventiv entgegenwirken kann.

Meine Meinung
Solche Bücher sind wichtig und sollten meiner Meinung nach ganz viel Aufmerksamkeit erhalten. Dieses Buch ist für Jugendliche ab 14 Jahren und ich bin mir sicher, dass der ein oder andere Teenager daraus ganz viel Mut und Vertrauen für sich schöpfen kann.
Neben dem Fakt, dass die Menschen in diesem Buch zur LGBTQ Community gehören, haben sich auch ganz unabhängig davon grossartige Dinge erreicht oder setzen sich noch heute dafür ein.

Besonders schön fand ich auch die persönliche Einleitung. Jedes Kind wünscht sich einen Helden oder eine Heldin und umso schöner ist es wenn man diese in Büchern finden kann.
Ich bin stolz darauf anders zu sein, und ich möchte genau so bleiben wie ich bin.

Es ist schön zu sehen wie Queer Bücher und Protagonisten immer mehr Buch-Raum erhalten. Dies hätte schon viel früher passieren sollen!

Der Schreibstil ist leicht und flüssig, ich mag den Stil sehr und hab das Buch in einem Zug weg gelesen.
Das Cover wie auch die ganze Gestaltung im Buch sind einfach nur wundervoll! Ein ganz grosses Highlight!
Fazit
Meiner Meinung nach ein Must-Read! Es ist nicht nur inspirierend sich mit den Menschen im Buch zu befassen, sondern es macht auch Mut zu sich selbst und die eigenen Werte zu stehen. Ein wunderbares Jugendbuch, dass ich gerne weiterempfehle.
