Someone's caught with a hand in the honey jar!

Shortly after Alice gives a talk at Tashmore Primary School the principal turns up dead. As police buzz all over the scene, they discover one of Alice's jars of honey is the murder weapon. From there, it's not long before they finger her partner Sally for the crime.

As police lock her best friend behind bars, Alice fights to uncover another suspect for the murder. Even with Sally's recent behavior becoming erratic, she can't picture her as a killer.

Alice must dig deep into Sally's secret past if she's to discover the root cause of the police's accusation. With her dog Chester undergoing exploratory surgery at the same time, she's soon as busy as a bee.

The Honeybee Mysteries are quick 1-2 hour reads perfect for filling in time waiting for appointments, commuting to work, or when your significant other insists on watching the show that makes you roll your eyes!

The stories contain no swearing, no cliffhangers, and no graphic scenes but please exercise some caution if you're allergic to bees.

I'm a middle-aged woman who works in insurance, doesn't have children or pets, can't drive, has lived in Christchurch my entire life, and currently reside a two-minute walk from where I was born.

For some reason, I've developed a rich fantasy life.

I like to write mysteries, some set in my hometown of Christchurch, others ninety minutes up the road in the beautiful township of Hanmer Springs, or in the quasi-fictional town of Pinetar. These mysteries range from hard-hitting psychological thrillers, through to police procedurals, or the lighter adventure of a cozy mystery.

The pacing in The Honey Trap, the second book in the Honeybee Mysteries, was better than in the first. The author is doing an excellent job of showing how despite the fact that she doesn't always understand people, Alice, the FMC, is starting to form relationships with other people. The author did a solid job of handling three different issues that were having a major impact on Alice's life. I'm looking forward to reading the third book in the series.

3.5*

The Honey Trap, book 2 in the The Honeybee Mysteries was a pretty good foolow up to The Buzz Kill. The characters are as lovable as ever. Especially Alice. I'm not sure I am getting behind Alice really liking the principal of the high school as much as Katherine Hayton keeps describing in this book. I don't think they've interacted enough for that but it might just be me and a false impression I was having while reading. I thought the pacing in this book was somewhat the same as with book 1, which is great. I definitely didn't see the whodunnit coming. I like trying to guess but then again, I haven't read enough of these books to start getting better at the guessing games. The writing was as good and I definitely wanted to read book 3.

I am reading this series in a row, and am very thankful that all are already published so I’m able to do that. The first book and this one both set up the stage for the book to follow.

I really love Alice as a main character. As mentioned in the review I wrote for the first book, she has Asperger Syndrome, and this is the first cozy mystery series I’ve ever read that has a main character who is on the spectrum. I’m guessing it is probably the only one out there really. But it gives the story a little extra twist, and it is interesting to get a peek into the mind of someone with Asperger when you have little to no experience with such a person. It helps me to feel more empathy towards someone like this.

I enjoy all of the other characters as well, even the ones that turn out to be the “bad guys”. For such a short book, the author does a great job of developing the characters’ personalities enough so that you feel you are getting to know them.

The mystery in this book in the series, like the one in the first book, was very well done and had twists and turns. The mystery in each of the first two books was solved in its own book, even though the stage was set for the next in series. It wasn’t exactly a cliff-hanger, but it does make you want to hurry up and get to the next book. Which brings me back to my original point —I’m so glad they’ve all been published so I can get right to the next book!

5 Stars!

The Honey Trap is another excellent story from Katherine Hayton! Alice is an incredible character, and Ms. Hayton has given us her thoughts and feelings so masterfully and so completely, that I feel a closeness to her, and relate readily to her many thoughts and moods. I Highly recommend this book.

Great series.............

I'm enjoying this series of stories about an wonderful woman who is a bee keeper. The character in this story, though she has a difficult time dealing with people, ends up in the middle of adventures of mysteries.

Great!

Happy that I found this series. The main character has autism, which adds a different and innovative twist. Plus, Alice is a bee keeper! Interesting characters throughout, and well done mystery. Short read, so perfect for a quick break.

Another enjoyable mystery with some very disturbing happenings with the best friend/business partner. I'm curious to see what happens with that.

My Review

This story didn't have so much to do with bees or honey as the first book as it did with Alice's sleuthing ability. I still enjoyed the story.
