Merciless #2

Heartless

Rate this book
From USA Today bestselling author W Winters comes an emotionally captivating and thrilling, romantic suspense.

At first, his words were harsh and his touch cold.
I didn’t want to be in his presence any more than he wanted me there.
I knew he was a dangerous man and he could destroy me if only he wanted to.

That’s not what he wanted though. It’s not what he needed.
It’s not what I desired either.

It’s so easy to get lost in the touch of a man who’s powerful and unattainable.
A man who wants for nothing … except me.
Soft touches and stolen glances made my blood heat and my heart beat in a way I never knew it could.

Yes, it’s easy to fall into a haze of lust and desire.
But there’s a reason his reputation is one of a heartless man.
And I should have known better.

Willow started writing after having her little girl, Evie, December 2015. All during her pregnancy with Evie she continued to read and she only wanted to read romance. She was reading a book a day — sometimes two.

In January 2016 Willow was staying up late with Evie and just thinking of all these stories. They came to her constantly so she finally sat down and just started writing. She always wanted to do it so she figured, why not? Today Willow cannot be happier for making that decision!

Holy shit! What did I just read?

Willow Winters upped the ante and pulled out all the stops in this one! It’s sexy AF, gritty, and emotionally charged! I couldn’t read it fast enough! I was literally cheering Aria and Carter on while reading this page turner!

Gah! That kiss! The conflict! The ending! Hang on, Babes! This wild ride isn’t over yet and I for one don’t want it to end! Carter is every single thing! In this installment, we learn so much more about what makes him ticks. He’s still as MERCILESS as ever, but his softer more vulnerable side shines through.

If you loved book one, you’re in for a serious treat! All the feels, folks! From shock and awe to thigh tingles. Yup! I went there. 😂

Also, let’s discuss Carter’s brothers for a moment. I need to make it known that I already have my eye on Jase. He’s claimed ladies!

So, if you’re looking for suspense, intrigued, and an original and entertaining story, GRAB THIS SEXY MOFO ASAP!

Highly recommended for fans of dark, mafia, and/or gritty reads.

It’s not that often that a book leaves me literally speechless but this one did. Trying to put this book into words seems like an impossible task. I went through so many emotions when reading it and I still haven’t recovered. Willow writes with such honesty, emotion and passion. Her books are such a joy to read. You know she is just as invested in her characters as the readers are.

I loved Merciless and couldn’t wait to read this one. Carter captivated me from the very start of Merciless and that didn’t let up for a second in this book. He is magnetic.
Carter and Aria’s story began in Merciless and was dramatic and emotional from the start. Heartless picks up where the first book left off. And the drama remains.

Still fighting with her emotions Aria doesn’t know where to turn. All she knows is she craves Carter. No matter how bad he is for her. And he is so bad.

Carter needs Aria like oxygen. He can’t afford to show weakness in his line of work, but he won’t let her go.

These two characters are so broken but so perfect. The reader can see how much they need one another, and how perfectly suited they are. We just need them to see it!
Loved seeing more of Daniel and Addison from Poessessive too. I always felt there was more to their story and it’s nice to have glimpses of it.

It is SO hard to talk about this book without spoiling it, squealing and listing all my favourite quotes (there are so many!). Just believe me when I say you need to read this book. Merciless was awesome, but Heartless is EPIC.

The war is on and it is oh, so very intense! Heartless left me stunned, shocked, and craving more. The war continues between families, between hearts, and between Carter and Aria. Loyalties are tested, lines are drawn, and choices made in an instant. Will all the men fall or will compromises be made?

As Carter and Aria grow closer, they each struggle with their own internal war. Their feelings, their desire, and their undeniable attraction to each other.

"How can I hate you and love you at the same time?"- Aria

Power and control are fought for and flows back and forth between these two.

"If you gave yourself to me, everything else would fall into place."- Carter

I loved the push and pull of these two. Aria is feisty and defiant, yet pliant and obedient. Carter is her merciless and heartless bad-boy that we’d love to hate but his charm and inner-boy shines through, much to his dismay.

W Winters has pulled out all the stops in this book, opening her soul to bring us amazing characters who are both strong yet weak and need each other to lean on. She has given us insight and answers to the questions we had from Merciless. She has brought the characters to life, created a connection between them that the reader can’t help but grab on to and love. She has brought on steaminess too. The heat level is scorching, so stock up on extra panties.

As the stakes get higher and the tension tightens, Ms. Winters leaves us wanting more. She finishes us with our fingers clenching our e-books, our jaws gaping open, and our minds blown. Of course, we are also yelling NO! She has done an amazing job, she has endeared me to Carter (which was a tough task after Merciless), and she has me counting the seconds on the clock for Breathless. Loved this one!

Heartless is the very definition of why W. Winters is the master of words!!! She completely takes it to a new level and demolishes all others in the process!

Heartless is so amazing. My heart was racing the entire time. I was gripping the edge of my seat, not wanting it to end. I was addicted to Carter before, but now I'm utterly and devotedly OBSESSED with him!

I love that Carter and Aria's relationship is so complex, and so desperate on both their parts. Such a unique situation that you cant help but feel all the feels for.

I'm floored, I'm flabbergasted, I'm speechless and I would not have it any other way! The Cross brothers have a permanent place in my heart and in my soul!

Back from vacation and this is the second book that was just OK for me. First, I SWEAR this was advertised as a duet?? (I could be remembering wrong). But, nope...we again have a cliffhanger. Now I fully admit I am a little grumpy on this issue, but I am really tired of authors stretching out the story of one couple over several books. Because of that, this book felt like more of a filler book than one that moved the story forward in any meaningful way. Carter is still being Carter, and I still really don't understand what his motivation for being such a jerk is, and Aria was pretty much a sniveling doormat for the entire book.

description

So all that negativity aside, I DID actually like this one a bit more than I did book one. Just a smidge, and if you want an intelligent reason as to why I can't give you one. I just found myself slightly more engaged (probably because I thought we were headed for a conclusion that never came *lol*) But Miz Winters is a fantastic writer and knows how to draw you into a story. So even though THIS particular "series" isn't my favorite of hers, I am still a huge fan of her writing and can't wait to see what she has up her sleeve for us next.

3.5⭐️

I actually really enjoyed this one! The one thing about these books is that the plot and characters are very simple, but it's so intriguing at the same time. I ended up enjoying this one more than the first one and a big reason for that is the deeper look we got into the characters and plot.

Aria is slowly but surely coming into herself and I am here for it! Her growth and progression so far is lovely to read. The plot is hollowed out a bit more compared to the first and we actually get more of the mafia king war going on right now. This is actually my first mafia romance series and I can absolutely see the appeal. 👀

The spice in this book is WILDDDD but ate up every last bit of it. This book is truly like 80% spice and 20% plot, but I knew that coming into it and set my expectations to be realistic. This book isn't anything crazy special but it's a fun time and a gripping read.

Overall, I am really liking this author and her writing! There is a whole universe to her books and I want to read every last one of them. While I did enjoy the book, it definitely had its flaws. Sometimes the writing was clunky and the spicy scenes could be cringey. I am not the biggest fan of some of the lingo in here, but that's just a personal preference. To sum this book in a nutshell: simple, but unoriginal. It would've been nice to see some standouts, but I enjoyed what I read. ☺️

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have a feeling this author's books are going to be my guilty pleasure...👀
ARC BOOK REVIEW
Release Date-17/7/18
So this is book two in the Merciless series and one I was desperately awaiting after that shocking finale we were treated to in its predecessor.
So in "Heartless" we actually dial it down a notch and instead really just concentrate on the overall dynamic that is building between Aria and Carter and here I felt we get much more of a sense of connection between the two; more so than I originally felt in Book one.
While this was great and I did really enjoy exploring and deciphering the obscurity which is Carters' brain as well as getting to understand more of what makes Aria tick this did mean a much slower pace overall.
For that reason alone, I think I enjoyed this slightly less than "Merciless"
It just wasn't as all-out action and I felt it did drag slightly at times.
I mean book one was just so hectic and I think I was expecting this to be along a similar vein.
This wasn't necessarily bad just different.
I still really enjoyed this a whole lot though; it was just much more internal angst than I was anticipating until about 70 percent in that is; here it then did start to pick up majorly barreling headlong towards another major cliffhanger.
And that's another thing I could have sworn this was a duo, not what looks to be a four-parter so I was kinda expecting a conclusion that we didn't actually get; got to say I was a tad bummed out at that fact.
This again had few minimal characters as practically all events occur at the house under lockdown.
This was also as expected super hot setting the pages alight with its raw sensuality.
Told in duel POV and after that ending; well its safe to say I for one will be waiting anxiously for the next chapter here.
This was a great second instalment that I am happy to recommend.
Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of "Heartless" of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions are entirely my own.
The story of war between three crime enemies continues...and there's only one link that stands as a gluing fortifyer of them all...but Aria is a willing victim, even though she's torn between hating the man who kidnapped her to hold her against her family expecting her to kneel in front of him in total submission yet standing strong beside him as he avenges the death of his family members by destroying hers.
I live in a world where attachments are limited and mourning only fules hatred. I've stayed hidden and quiet, attempting to go unnoticed for years and stay out of the way, and therefore, out of the sights of men who would see me as a bargaining chip. Yet, here I am, in the hands of a man hellbent on murder and vengeance.
The small pieces I've been given are jagged and harsh. I shouldn't pity the monster he became. i shouldn't love what he does to me. But I do.
And Cross is not only hellbent to deliver his vengeance and eliminate his enemies, he's also hellbent on having Aria completely in control, in submission, in total acceptance, no matter of the fact that the process might destroy her - he needs to break her to mend her, to make her HIS.
I was meant to have you. I only fucking lived to have you.
You were made for me to have. To fight. To fuck. To care for.
BUT he's changing in the process, and the one thing he's now hoping for that the final act of vengeance won't detter her heart away from him...
We're all prisoners of war.
She's mine. And she'll stay with me. Forgiveness will come.
She'll have to forgive me. There's no other way.
and we shall have to see that...
in the next installment...
p.s. I loved the inner conflictions within Aria and Carter. They are equally broken as they fulfill each other's fissures in pain and dark passion BUT other than that, nothing is really happening in the story and honestly, I needed smth more to keep me absolutely interested into finding out their destiny...and having a slower pacing also didn't help the final result. It had the potential to knock me off my feet but it kind of numbed the pain and I just wanted to see it through. However, the writing style and the "cliffy" left me wondering and wanting more in the end.
So, the next installment awaits...
2.75⭐
Slightly better than the last one
“Women like you were made to ruin men like me.”
The only thing Carter said that was not
"Kneel"
"You're mine"
"Mine"
"You're only for me"
"MINE"
Like man okay I get it but god this doesn't have to be stretched this long.
The book would have ended if she would have just told Carter that he kidnapped the wrong hoe.
It's so funny how she was traumatised by this man.
This man locked her up in a cell.
Starved her to an extent.
Let her literally beg for her life.
Did not show her any kind of kindness.
Aims to kill her family.
Tells her to kneel and does all the manipulating shit.
Literally treats her and keeps her as a prisoner
and
STILL this bitch is like "i love you" because she's getting good dick.
Recensione sulla mia pagina Bookstagram
https://www.instagram.com/p/CSt4WI7Mi...
Il traffico di droga era l’attività di gran lunga più redditizia di qualsiasi altra, lo sapeva bene Carter, potente capo mafioso che era riuscito a sfruttarla al massimo avendo avuto un maestro come Talvery, un uomo crudele e spietato che gli aveva insegnato fin da subito quali fossero i limiti da non superare, altrimenti avrebbe perso tutto nel giro di poco tempo.
«Mi ha insegnato cosa riesca a fare la paura. Mi ha mostrato cosa occorre per mandar via il dolore e per rimpiazzarlo con qualcosa che dà ancora più assuefazione dell’eroina. Il potere. È tutto. Ed io lo sento, che mi scorre nelle vene».
Carter adesso odiava profondamente quell’uomo e desiderava più di ogni altra cosa poter pareggiare i conti con lui. Ma Aria non glielo avrebbe permesso tanto facilmente, teneva troppo alla sua famiglia e avrebbe fatto il possibile per tenerli al sicuro da suo marito e dall’organizzazione.
🖋️In questo secondo volume della serie assistiamo alla trasformazione di Aria, che non è più una semplice sottomessa assoggettata al volere del suo rapitore, ma una donna consapevole di sé stessa e del potere che sa di esercitare su di lui, un uomo letale e tra i più pericolosi, che brama comunque con ardore e grande passione. Intensi i loro momenti hot.
Carter pian piano inizia a cedere al suo usignolo, la donna che ama e desidera con tutto sé stesso, ma che ha imparato a sfidarlo talmente bene da diventare il suo punto debole. Lui non la teme. Anzi, ne è affascinato. Ma è anche consapevole del forte ascendente che Aria ha su di lui, e questo rappresenta una fragilità, un pericolo incombente e inesorabile che può condurlo alla sua disfatta:
«Se sapesse quanto potere ha su di me, potrei perdere tutto. Lei è ancora fedele al nemico. Su questo non c’è dubbio».
🖋️Entrambi i protagonisti dovranno fare i conti col passato, si troveranno a dover compiere scelte difficili e dolorose per colpa delle loro famiglie, e tutto ciò li condurrà ad uno scontro che avrà ripercussioni sul loro rapporto proprio quando stava diventando consolidato.
Riusciranno a venirne fuori indenni e restare quella coppia fuori dal comune ma intrigante, erotica e passionale, che abbiamo imparato ad amare nel primo capitolo della loro intensa storia?
🖋️Devo ammettere che questo secondo volume mi è piaciuto molto. Il ritmo incalzante resta alto e adrenalico per tutto libro. Tante le scene di azione presenti ma anche momenti di profonde introspezioni e lussuria pura.
Anche stavolta il libro termina con un cliffangher.
*Ringrazio la CE per la copia ARC
⭐️ 5 "Mine" Stars ⭐️
I literally don’t know why I waited this long to start the Merciless Series because after this second book it’s more than obvious that I’m obsessed with this world! I already loved the first novel, but Heartless was even more enthralling. I was constantly on the edge of my seat waiting for the next bombshell to drop.
"I was meant to have you. I only fucking lived to have you. You were made for me to have. To fight. To fuck. To care for."
I didn’t think Carter could be more appealing than he was already, but I was so wrong. There’s just something so formidable about him, but also broken. He’s the textbook alpha, but can also be so tender. While he doesn’t verbally express all the feelings Aria elicits in him, he displays them amply through his possessive gestures etch with sweetness and passion. His internal struggles about his feelings for the young woman are just so moving and beautiful too. Awww, I’m infatuated with the man!
Yes, Carter has me in awe, but let’s not forget Aria! This captive is more than ever questioning her ambivalent feelings for Carter. They’re quite confusing for her! She shows moments of despair, but also fierce strength throughout this ordeal! I enjoyed her defiant moments where she goes head to head with Carter. It certainly creates sparks that ignite so easily!
What can I say more about their intense chemistry? They’re pure fire! Their spicy moments are explosive and dirty but some of them are also charged with a new intimacy that made my heart flutter from their profound connection!
The intrigue is also taking flight with some difficult decisions for both protagonists. The war raging between the rival clans brings suspense and tension between the couple!
Once again, the audio version of this story was flawlessly performed by the narrators. They both embody so well Carter and Aria and gave me chills more than once!
“She’s a weakness I never intended, but one I refuse to give up.”
Heartless was addictive and left me stunned by the huge cliffhanger! By chance, I could dive straight away into book three, Breathless. W. Winters achieved to catch my complete heart and soul with the Merciless Series. The suspense, wicked sensuality, poignant moments and all the in between have me amazed and only wanting more of these characters!
Wow!!! If you thought you loved Carter after Merciless then hold on to your shorts!!! More information about Carter is revealed in this one. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down! Steamy scenes that leave you fanning yourself and ready to drop to your knees begging for more!! It is left with a cliff hanger and not all questions are answered, but Willow doesn't leave you hanging for long! I can't wait for the next book! I want more Carter!!!!
Meh, there's a lot of crying and not very good smut.
I gave the series a second shot, because I though it might get better on the second one. But unless the FMC grows a spine in the next books, I can't really see how it can even be tolerable. I was annoyed most of the time.
Plus, a plot would be nice. All that happens is that she's held captive and they have s*x as if it's the most romantic thing ever..... hm, no.
If you read my review of Heartless (first book), you know that I hated Carter with every fiber of my being. And I still do. HA! I actually think Willow made me hate him even more, if that were possible.
So why the four stars if I loathe a main character so much???
I can't connect to him in an emotional way. I know I am totally in the minority on this one, but I really struggle to see any good in him. Even as we get glimpses of what his past was like - it still does not excuse for the horrific ways he treats Aria. His actions and what he does - I just have a hard time understanding his reasoning for everything. He doesn't care for her - she brings him pleasure and is a pawn in this war
Aria is a tortured young woman who has no idea what the fuck to think or do. Carter has her so messed up, that she does things because she knows it's what he wants and it prevents her from getting punished. How can she love a man who treats her like a fucktoy and nothing more?? When she is upset, he soothes her by giving her pleasure. Uhhh...not exactly how you treat someone that you want to stand by your side. I mean hey - the scenes are hot as hell and Aria enjoys the hell out of it (which she herself finds fucked up). But no, I just don't get it.
So again - why did I rate this 4 stars if I have such an issue with pretty much the main plot??
This is where my fucked up mind comes into play. While I do not give two shits about Cater, what I find intriguing is Aria. She herself sees how demented and fucked up the whole situation is. It is her inner strength that has me loving this book - in different ways, she defies Cater and I love it. She pushes him and makes him do things he normally wouldn't do. It is her feistiness and refusal to give in completely that keeps me coming back.
Yea - my feelings on Carter may be in the complete minority on this but it is Aria who has me loving this story so much. I can't wait to see what Willow brings us in the next book because that ending has me going, "HELL YEA BITCHES!!!"
Now it’s getting good......
I just want to say that if there was less s3x this story would have an impact. All I ever came across was what Carter felt and got from Aria and for Aria, this girl needed to I don’t know maybe not be so submissive. Like really, I was starting to feel annoyed at the both of them but hey at least I know Addison, Jase and Daniel too.
Heartless by Willow Winters is book Two in the Merciless series. This continues the story of Carter and Aria from the previous book, Merciless. I strongly feel you need to read the previous book first before reading this one.
Carter is for sure a dark hero who starts off cruel toward Aria while trying to fight his feelings for her. Aria is fighting her feelings of love and hate toward Carter. They both have personal issues and along with the other family members it is causing problems that they have to fight through. This series is a dark one that keeps you on the edge of your seat reading. It does leave us with another cliffhanger so that we can continue their story in the next book.
Exciting read for sure!
Holy shit this book! Second book in the Merciless series. I have no words because it's book 2 and I don't want to spoil anything. Another evil cliffhanger in this one which I can only forgive Willow for because book 3 is on my ipod and ready for me to listen. You guys need to read/listen to this series.
“You’re the bird in the forest who lured the child out of safety until he fell into a black hole he could never get out of."
Holy Smokes, what an incredible ride of suspense. What an explosion of dark phenomena. Wow, Heartless unlocked and opened the darkness within me. Man, this book was freaking brilliant. The effervescent characters. The honey dripping plot offering sweet and bitter ecstasy. The bone shivering scenes. Heartless filled my soul. Heartless sneaked into my heart and twisted it. I was a captive. Captive to the story. Captive to the words. Willow Winters is freaking talented. Her books always call to me. Whether, it is an emotional book or a hypnotizing dark suspense, Willow Winters just manages to capture me and bring me into her amazing world. Heartless was absolutely SPECTACULAR. Seriously, I am so speechless right now that I can't find the right words. Heartless overtook my mind. Heartless DESTROYED me. Heartless set my soul on fire. Heartless definitely one of my favourite reads from Willow Winters.
Heartless is the second book in the Merciless series. Let me tell you, this book was a straight up drug to my system. Inhibiting me. Drowning me. Giving me the sweetest high. It was addictive. It was intoxicating. I was a junkie to its pages. Heartless took me under and stole every breath out of my body. Chilling. Exhilarating. Magnificently Dark. Sinful. Heartless was a bewitching thriller. A passionate and compelling book that leaves you stunned and craving. A seductive spectacle that brings danger and intrigue. I adore Willow Winters's writing. Her writing is freaking interesting and deep. Her level of talent holds no bounds. She always captivates me with her dynamic storytelling. Potent to my heart. Potent to my soul. Heartless is a gripping and emotional charged ride. Filled with intensity, deadly desires, emotions and action. Heartless will take you on twisted journey of captivity, obsession and power.
Carter and Aria are one amazing couple. They have a prey and predator dynamic that gives you excitement. I was surely excited. Wow. This couple absolutely rock. The conflict. The emotions. These two definitely made my heart jump a lot but still give electricity that short through my heart. Aria has fight. She is stubborn but she is strong. Yes, a lot might see as a doormat but I feel her emotion of submission. And it was damn mesmerizing. Carter is everything. E V E R Y T H I N G. Calculating. Dominating. Ruthless. Cruel. Dangerous. He is a sexy anti-hero that will make you lose your mind and want a bite of him. I sure wanted that bite.
That ending!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Gosh, I am not over it. I need book 3 right now. Willow Winters, get cracking and give me book 3 now. I highly recommend the Merciless series
Hurt me once, I'll break you twice....
Willow Winters has shown us yet again she is an amazing master of her craft. Carter and Aria's story continues to be provocative and spellbinding. The two of them together invoke a high-voltage dynamic that leaves you full of anxiety and apprehension, not knowing where this bond they share together will lead them. Willow Winters gives us a glimpse through the looking glass at Carter as a young man. We experience snippets of his life experiences and witness a peek at why he is the man he is today.
Aria feels she is slowing losing her sanity as each day passes with Carter. She is struggling with her emotions of love and hate for him. Their story has pulled at my emotional strings to the brink. And that is due largely to the exquisite phrasing in this book. I wait with anticipation to learn more about Aria and Carter.
I was super excited to read Heartless and catch up with Carter and Aria from Merciless. I thought the second installment to this story was exciting, fast-paced and also the perfect combination of emotional and sexy. I really enjoyed this story and OMG that ending?! I can't wait to get my hands on Breathless!
I was completely lost in Carter and Aria's story. I remember that my biggest complaint after reading Merciless was the lack of connection (beyond a sexual one) between Carter and Aria. But honestly after that shocking ending to book one and the repercussions Aria had to face as a result of her actions, I felt like the author did an AMAZING job realistically depicting the genuine (and confusing) emotions they both had for one another. I felt Aria's ambivalent feelings about her lover/captor as she was torn in so many directions. Likewise, I could appreciate the subtle power shift from Carter to Aria as this hard and ruthless man couldn't help but soften when it came to his damaged songbird. I loveddd that he maintained his ruthless and savage edge, but his in-depth feelings for Aria was a beautiful thing to see.
I loved that there is still so much story to tell and through Carter's capture, Aria has realized that she craves his touch and deliciously depraved behavior. But, lord that ending. I was seriously holding my breath!! I can not wait for the next book! Bravo! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula
