Willow started writing after having her little girl, Evie, December 2015. All during her pregnancy with Evie she continued to read and she only wanted to read romance. She was reading a book a day — sometimes two.

This is pretty much how I looked the entire time while reading this book! After the cliffhanger at the end of book 2, I almost lost my mind. But this book made it all better. Holy hell! It's so good!



The wait for Breathless was killer! I've become SO invested in these characters. It felt like I was sitting on pins and needles waiting to see how things would turn out. Obviously, I had a very clear idea of what I wanted and needed from this next installment because am type A, but amazingly enough, Willow Winters gave me just that!



I wanted action, an emotional connection to all the characters, and most of all to see Carter at his BEST. Boy oh boy, did the author deliver! In Breathless, the bar is raised. The action comes to a head. And we get to see a different dynamic between the main characters. Carter and Aria are at an impasse and watching the situation play out was PURE ENTERTAINMENT! I enjoyed every single moment!



It was fantastic! And that ending! Whew. Carter Cross is about to bring and I know I'll be left panting at the end of the thrilling series.



Two thumbs up from me! It's gritty, dramatic, dark, and delicious.

Another fun and thrilling adventure with this series! The one thing about this series that I've noticed is the plot isn't exactly unique? But it is damn entertaining. 😌

I had a good time reading this! I truly do have a soft spot for these characters and I've grown to love them more and more as the series goes on. I love the addition of Addison and Aria's friend; they are such a cute and iconic duo. I was a bit let down by the relationship between Carter and
Aria in this book. 😕 I felt like there was a lot of tension but not the good kind of tension. There's a lot of back and forth inner dialogue that I wish would just be spoken out loud, you know?

The plot itself was okay but the ending? The ending was soooo good!! Probably my favorite ending out of this whole series. Another thing that bugged me was the plot felt like we were going in circles a lot of the time. A lot of the same things were said just in different ways and I felt like it just didn't enhance the plot. This book could be so good had it just been a tad bit more unique.

This series so far is an overall 3 star, and that's okay! I'm still very much invested and enjoying myself. I will not only continue this series but I plan to read this author's backlist as well. 🙂‍↔️

GOD DAMNIT WILLOW!!!! Just when I think we are getting an HEA, you go and throw another damn twist into this plot!!! I love you and hate you right now. LOL Thankfully we do not have to wait extremely long for the final book.

Breathless continues on from where Heartless ended and the plot keeps moving at an incredible pace. This book definitely hits more on the plot of the mafia and how Carter intends to bring down each player and their families. But we still get that intense and fucked up connection between Aria and Carter and that plays a key role in this.

I am beginning to understand Carter a bit more and that has to do with a book I read in between Breathless and Heartless. Winter released a book titled, A Kiss To Tell, that Carter plays as a secondary character in. But it gave me more insight as to who he was before all this. I still don't like him and don't agree with how he treats Aria, but I have better insight into this man and that has allowed me to enjoy this whole series even more.

Anyway - onto this book. As I have with every book so far in this series, I am still in awe of Aria and her strength. She continues to show me another side of who she is and the woman she is becoming in this fucked up mafia world. She is the reason I love this series.

I am enjoying this series more and more with each book. I don't want it to end, but I also need to know how everything plays out. The true battle a book nerd falls into - never wanting a series to end, but needing it to to be fully satisfied.

I lived for this....the war and I didn’t think it was going to get better but more fool me it was so darn good. I did get an odd feeling of here we go again with Carter and Aria 😉 but I think getting the gist of how everything came about, finally clicked when it left off on Book 2 and an understandably why Aria had to do it.

Just the characters and the plot of the story gets better and sometimes what you think happens doesn’t and I like that, but it also makes you think oh I hope nothing happens to him or to her but that’s it with this series you can’t know and you’re unprepared.

Even though, I disliked the heroine now, I found this so "jo-Jo" effect annoying as fuck and I couldn't really connect with this "I love to hate you, but I hate to love you" shit...urgh...

I'm not even sure, what they are NOW, enemies to lovers, lovers to haters and back, but not...shit

Still, loved the hero, well anti-hero...

and the fuck, what is that ending about...cutting it off like that...I didn't really expect to have another sequel after this...but apparently there is...ah

Sadly, Breathless has disappointed me. I gave Merciless and Heartless five stars, and this book is getting a very generous THREE star. What the hell happened here, Ms. Winters? How much back and forth do you think the readers can take? Carter has been a consistent character; we know his feelings by his actions, even when they are cruel. But Aria? She loves him, but she will hate him, and then all her internal thoughts are so effed up that I seriously can't stand her. And if a reader can't stand one of the main characters, then the writer has failed her reader. Or perhaps that was your intent for us, to hate Aria? If so, you've succeeded.

To say I am weary after reading this book is an understatement. I pushed through it because I was hoping you'd win me back over with a gritty story of love. I guess I had it wrong and though I hesitantly will read book 4, Endless in the hope of you redeeming these characters, I am not keeping my hopes up. But I want to give you a fair chance at ending this series on a positive note. It has SO much potential to be an outstanding series. It honestly started on a high note and then plummeted with Breathless.

I hate to say this but Breathless is my least favorite book of this series. I understood the disconnect between Aria and Carter but both of these characters are being beyond stubborn. Aria’s actions at the end of the previous book sets the tone for this one and the consequences may very well be the end of what Carter and Aria were starting to build. With war comes casualties, will their relationship be the ultimate casualty?

While I wasn’t in love with this one I can’t wait for Endless, I need to know how the story is going to play out and if Aria and Carter can survive both the war between families and the war that is between their hearts.

Ad Aria sarebbe potuto partire accidentalmente un colpo e ferire l’uomo contro cui brandiva una pistola e che diceva di amare. Se ne sarebbe poi pentita?
Carter, che in quel frangente avvertiva una forte pressione in mezzo al petto, se lo chiedeva incessantemente.

«Un pozzo di emozioni minaccia di spezzare il mio autocontrollo. Fisso la canna, e sento che mi si sta sgretolando tutto attorno. Davanti al nemico. Davanti ai miei fratelli. Davanti a lei».

Aria gli aveva appena dimostrato di essere disposta a tutto pur di proteggere la sua famiglia e quegli uomini che, un istante prima, avevano cercato di uccidere tutti loro.

I suoi fratelli erano perfettamente consapevoli che Carter l’amasse più della sua vita, perciò gli faceva male il fatto che stessero assistendo al suo tradimento.
Ma se da una parte Aria aveva mostrato fedeltà e appartenenza ai Talvery, tradendo la fiducia di suo marito, dall’altra non lo aveva lasciato.
No, non era andata via con loro.

«Io resto» aveva annunciato con autorevolezza, lasciandolo basito e sorpreso per quella scelta. Anche Nikolai era rimasto stupito, e camminando a grandi falcate verso di lei era apparso palesemente contrariato; era pronto a prenderla con la forza e portarla via da quella casa.

Fino a quel momento Carter si era mantenuto calmo, ma il gesto che aveva fatto Nikolai era il segnale che stava aspettando per estrarre la pistola:

«La loro rimpatriata è durata fin troppo, e mi rifiuto di lasciargliela prendere. Nessuno me la porterà via. Nessuno».

L’adrenalina aveva preso a scorrergli veloce nelle vene.
Tutto, avrebbe fatto qualsiasi cosa pur di non farla andare via. Perché il suo usignolo era suo, e di nessun altro.

🖋️Carter in questo terzo volume della serie prende consapevolezza di quanto sia profondo e assoluto il suo amore per Aria. Ma il gesto che ha compiuto lo fa dubitare di lei:

«Non mi ha mai amato. Mai. Si proteggono coloro che si amano. Sempre. E lei non ha protetto me. Io sono stato un fottuto coglione, e lei non è la donna che pensavo che fosse. È una maledetta bugiarda».

La fiducia che aveva riposto in sua moglie, che si era gloriosamente conquistata, viene a mancare.
Lei lo aveva tradito ed era pronta non solo a sacrificare il suo amore, ma anche la sua vita. E nonostante avesse deciso di restare con lui, Carter era convinto di non poterla più tenere con sé perché la ragazza annebbiava le sue capacità di giudizio, e con ogni probabilità avrebbe anche perso la fiducia ed il rispetto dei suoi uomini.

🖋️Le scelte di Aria non le ho comprese né condivise del tutto. Sin da bambina, rinchiusa nella sua stanza, non ha mai rincorso quello che voleva, e adesso, libera dal condizionamento del padre, sceglie comunque di appoggiare lo schieramento che in passato più l’ha fatta soffrire. Mettendo in discussione non solo la lealtà verso il marito, ma in alcuni momenti anche il suo amore.
Una donna che appare palesemente confusa, divisa tra la vendetta, la salvezza della propria famiglia e l’amore. Desidera ardentemente evitare una sanguinosa guerra tra i Talvery e i Cross, e questo è più che comprensibile, ma il suo cuore dovrebbe sapere perfettamente a chi appartenere, e dunque a chi concedere tutta se stessa, senza alcuna limitazione, e soprattutto senza alcun dubbio.

🖋️Gli ultimi capitoli sono molto avvincenti, e il libro termina col sospeso.

Okay, so Breathless picked up right where book 2 ended and everything is still intense and kept me glued to the pages in this book. This series is one that needs to be read in order, because the order does matter.

I am loving that Aria is finally growing stronger and standing up for herself and proving that she isn’t fragile and naive. She is struggling with her actions towards Carter in the book and then she tells Carter that she would try to be with Nikolai if he was gone and Carter can’t get that out of his mind.

Carter can’t admit how much he truckers for Aria, he just keeps thinking that she’s his enemy in this war and that he will lose her in the end.

Hearts on the edge to see what will happen in the last book.

Omg, this third installment in the Merciless Series was the best yet! It’s so much more emotional and intense! The war between the rival clans is more than ever in effect making this read absolutely thrilling and suspenseful too.

Aria and Carter are on a push and pull dynamic after the last sudden and heartbreaking decision Aria made! The irreparable damage on their relationship is painful to watch. It’s so apparent the feelings between them still run deep, but the trust is broken and their love is damaged. This ultimate betrayal doesn’t diminish the passion oozing from them where they venture into scorching hot encounters.

I loved everything about this story! Carter is still the textbook alpha with a front so cold and controlling, but with little touches of sweet. It’s when we enter his thoughts that we get to see the real him and the powerful emotions Aria elicits. I just can’t wait for him to open up more to his woman about the depth of these feelings.

W. Winters once again mesmerized me with this highly addictive novel packed with twists, suspense, lust and heartbreak! The narration of the Breathless audiobook was spot on like for the previous books! It's another shocking ending that I can’t wait to see the completion with Endless!

OMG!!!! I could not put this book down!!! With the ending of the last one in this series, I was not sure how this one was going to hold up. But OMG Breathless did not disappoint!!! Man, this is such a great series!!! So dark and twisted and sexy as hell. LOVE IT! LOVE IT!! LOVE IT!!!

It’s a tribute to willows great writing that I felt horribly for Carter in this book. After what he did to Aria, he really should be irredeemable but my heart ached in this book. Aria and Carter are on better equal footing, you can see the potential for both of them to be ruthless leaders because of what Aria has become but because of the ongoing war there is strain between them. They’re very obviously super in love with one another but the war is a block between them. Carter wants to kill arias family, not the best scenario lol. But i loved the atmosphere as usual and the change of pace, also things got suspish so now i have some theories which is always fun

Breathless was the third installment in the Merciless series and I honestly could not read this book fast enough. I absolutely love Aria and Carter and seriously have become addicted to their story! And that ending!! Gah!!! I can't wait for Endless!

I won't lie. I have an unhealthy obsession with Carter and Aria. It is swoony, sexy, heartbreaking and intense but also frustrating at times since every step forward is followed by a step back. But that is also the nature of the beast and the reason why I LOVE this author's stories. I am obsessed and addicted and have to devour them. This story picks up right after the CRAZY ending to book two and Aria must deal with the repercussions of her actions towards Carter. But now the war is heating up and Carter and Aria are more at odds now than ever as they have to balance their feelings for.one another with their positions at the opposite ends of the war.

Sigh. This story was great. I was hooked from the very first page and honestly never wanted it to end. I am so curious how Aria will handle her love for Carter while he needs to carry out his revenge against her family. I am hooked and seriously can't wait!! Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula

Second time through, still the same review.

I am really loving Carter and Aria's story. And I liked the addition of Daniel and Addison in this book. Still great action, emotion, smexy scenes and dialog. Everything I love.

However, as with the first two books I sooooo really wanted to give this book a five, but I just can't with the timeline issues, grammar errors, and just mistakes. For example, Aria comes downstairs and finds her father's men drinking and celebrating. The story just said that she was 15, but then it says they gave her wine because she was 16...???? Or when she and Addison were hiding and the man came in to kill them, she had the gun but she got pulled out and dropped the gun and Addison grabbed the gun and shot over and over and over and was so upset that she just killed someone, yet the next paragraph it is Aria talking about why she doesn't feel anything about killing the man upstairs and Daniel telling Carter that Aria shot the man. And then the grammar errors...a period in the middle of a sentence. Two "" in a row, missing... Yeah.

So only 4 stars...such a good story, just needs some editing.

Non vorrei essere suo nemico. Ma lo sono. E lo sarò per sempre. Non è lei che ci rende impossibile stare insieme. Non sono nemmeno io. In realtà non abbiamo mai avuto una chance.

Che fu? Mi deve essere passato sopra un maledetto treno in corsa chiamato Carter Cross!

Nella seconda parte di questa serie assolutamente sorprendente avevo detto che non sapevo più cosa aspettarmi perché avevo quella sensazione un po’ noiosa della calma prima della tempesta… e così è stato: qui ragazzi si suda, si soffre e si resta ipnotizzati e privi di sonno a leggere una pagina dopo l’altra. E poi disperati a chiedere il resto della storia perché… basta cliffhanger, Willow!

Carter Cross è sempre più determinato nella sua vendetta tremenda vendetta, a qualunque costo, pure se per vendicarsi deve strapparsi il cuore dal petto con le sue stesse mani. Perché quel suo cuore che lui crede nero e avvizzito ha un nome e un cognome: Aria Talvery, la figlia del nemico.



La storia di Carter e Aria è un po’ un Romeo e Giulietta dark, con due nemici che non possono e mai potranno stare insieme, per i quali il destino di farsi del male e odiarsi era segnato fin dalla nascita, dato che appartengono a famiglie mafiose opposte, nemiche da sempre.

Così nasce il dilemma che è l’elemento cruciale di tutta questa storia, sviluppato con maestria dall’autrice: vendetta vuol dire non amore, perché per Carter uccidere il nemico è ferire mortalmente la donna amata. E per Aria vuol dire scegliere qualcosa che non si può scegliere: suo padre o l’uomo che ama.

Chi ama non pretende una scelta del genere. Ma chi ama è anche capace di perdonare. Dunque entrambi i protagonisti provano amore vero, oppure no?

“Potrà anche provare ad amarmi, ma mi odierà sempre e comunque.”

L’animo di Carter è intricato e intrigante, vero? Ma non temete di dover aspettare troppo, l’ultimo capitolo che sento avrà fuochi d’artificio cinesi, ovvero più spaventosi e realistici che mai, arriva l’11 dicembre.

Go Carter, go! Riprenditi ciò che è tuo, l’amore è come l’acqua del fiume, la strada per passare la trova sempre… anche a costo di rompere argini, ponti e strade. E forse in fondo al percorso troverai la tua chance.

La serie Carter Cross mi stupisce sempre di più, se nel secondo volume abbiamo assistiamo ad una sorprendente evoluzione caratteriale dei protagonisti resa più incisiva da un' attenta introspezione che denuda i loro animi, e ad una crescita esponenziale emotiva in cui Aria conquista non solo il cuore di Carter ma anche il mio, nel terzo volume affrontiamo uno scontro in cui sono in gioco i sentimenti che legano Aria a Carter da una parte e alla sua famiglia dall' altra.
Inevitabilmente il loro legame si incrina stravolgendo tutte le certezze raggiunte nel precedente capitolo. Aria è ormai una donna coraggiosa e libera di fare le proprie scelte anche a discapito dell' intensa affinità che la vuole accanto all' uomo che ama. Il comportamento deciso e inaspettato che l' ha portata a schierarsi con la sua famiglia destabilizzano Carter che si sente tradito, confuso e deluso, sensazioni forti che lo toccano profondamente tanto da porre un freno a quella connessione emotiva e passionale che lo aveva soggiogato e indebolito ma saldamente unito al suo usignolo che inizialmente fragile e succube si è rivelato poi indomito e indegno di fiducia.
Un Carter provato che ci concede un lungo sguardo dentro la sua anima tormentata che torna alle sue fredde e cupe origini mentre il suo cuore duro e sanguinante straripa di rabbia e rancore che accresce tutto l' acredine che riversa sui nemici contro i quali è sempre più agguerrito. Entrambi i protagonisti si trovano in balia dei legami di sangue che li tengono sospesi tra l' incudine e il martello in cui inevitabilmente una scelta escluderà l' altra in cui l' amore domina ma l' odio comanda, il desiderio incalza ma la delusione reprime.
Un terzo capitolo di fuoco che, come da titolo, lascia senza respiro. L' autrice mette il turbo alle emozioni travolgendo ancora il lettore con personaggi che emergono prepotentemente a catturare tutta la nostra attenzione e momenti di azione al cardiopalma descritti con efferata maestria con la quale gioca e ribalta le dinamiche della storia lasciando il lettore esterrefatto.
Tre capitoli avvincenti in cui violenza e passione sono perfettamente bilanciate e intersecate tra loro per regalare pathos, emozione e tanta adrenalina. L' immancabile cliffhanger, con cui la Winters affligge e tortura i nostri cuori palpitanti di ansia per il futuro di Carter ed Aria, chiude la narrazione lasciando le nostre menti in subbuglio per ciò che ci attenderà nel decisivo e finale quarto volume.

El mejor libro!!!!

A diferencia de los dos libros anteriores, ésta tercera parte me dejó desolada, inmersa en una tristeza, nostalgia y dolor casi indescifrable para mi. El comienzo es exactamente la continuación del final de "sin corazón", con una Aria ajena a la verdad y haciendo algo que jamás imaginé iba a ser capaz de hacer. En este libro la vi más fuerte, más segura de lo que es y de lo que siente, dispuesta a ponerse del lado de su familia aún amando a Carter y asumiendo las consecuencias que eso le traería, pero de lo que si no está al tanto e ignora completamente es de los sentimientos de Carter hacia ella, y eso a él lo tiene destrozado. Vi a un Carter mucho más vulnerable y en sintonía con sus emociones, no sabe que hacer con Aria, por más que la ama está dispuesto a retenerla de la manera que sea. En esta lectura hay mucho desespero, por momentos me sentí ahogada de la tristeza por todas las emociones encontradas. Es por ahora el mejor libro, lo que aquí se ve es completamente diferente a los libros anteriores. Hay mucha vulnerabilidad, sus familias y enemigos están en guerra, hay traición, dolor y un final que me dejó noqueada emocionalmente. Aria es una Reina que se hace cada vez más fuerte y de temer. Carter un hombre cada vez más vulnerable por ella, pero a la vez decidido a llegar victorioso hasta el final de la guerra así Aria lo odie para siempre. Con muchas ansias de que llegue pronto el desenlace de esta historia que me cautivó desde Sin compasión.

This was such an amazing beauty and the beast retelling with so many twists. I love Aria and Carter so much and they truly were both amazing mcs.

Is Carter a huge asshole? Yes. Did I love him more and more as their story continued? Hell yes. Aria was able to put him in his place and truly was his perfect match. I loved seeing the two of them grow, along with Carter accepting his feelings for her. They both would do anything for one another.

The ending was great and I just cant wait to see more of the two of them throughout the rest of the world!

(Yes my review will be same for all 4 books because I forgot to write them sooner and can’t sort out my thoughts!)

I don't even know what to say about this book. I love Carter going a bit growly with her again. I love the angst in this book, the friendship budding with Addison, and Aria really coming into her own and slowly becoming a badass in her own right. The cliffhanger is evil, but the next and final book is ready to go on my ipod. After I listen to this one I should be able to gather my thoughts re: the entire series. But I'm loving this and highly recc it!

Also, Willow made a reference to Comfort Food in this book! ha! A character heated up chicken noodle soup and the heroine thought "Comfort Food". Willow assures me this was intentional! OH and OMG at the beginning of this one... there is this scene... with a box... you'll know it when you get to it. So intense!
