The God of Evil is searching for her oldest friend.
A billion years ago, the A’ahegre traveled the stars searching for safe refuge from the Kiltrex, an insect-like species that is an apex predator. The A’ahegre found salvation not in distance, but evolution. Now, they are beings comprised mostly of energy that form symbiotic relationships with a host species exchanging knowledge and unique abilities for experience and sustenance.
For two years, Kita has searched for an A’ahegre to lead her to their homeworld. But, finding the elusive A’ahegre in Tetrahedron space has proven difficult. Kita and her band of mercenaries infiltrate a criminal cartel rumored to have an Aurorian with unique abilities. Her cover exposed, the Aurorian flees. Now, Kita gives chase determined to find her A’ahegre and fill the hole in her soul.

Clouds is the story of Kita searching for her longtime companion, an alien known as an A'ahegre. The A'ahegre has been with Kita since birth and is one of the sources of her power and knowledge. The pair feeds off each other and grows more powerful as Kita's ambition has grown over the centuries.
The story also reveals the dark side of Kita's personality. Kita reveals her sociopathic tendencies and Cotton is unsure of how to handle this new revelation. Kita revels in her evil but is still careful to remain loyal to her friends. She knows one of her greatest strengths is her friends.
To find her A'ahegre Kita must find another A'ahegre who can tell her how to find A'a, the A'ahegre's homeworld. The problem is the cloud Kita finds is white and her's was black. They two types of A'ahegre have a conflicting philosophy and Kita must convince this white cloud to work with her, bringing back an old persona of hers, the Fallen Angel, the deliverer of judgment to the wicked and unrepentant. The white cloud provides Kita with the coordinates of an old A'ahegre ship that fled A'a.
Aboard the A'ahegre ship, Kita finds an ancient enemy of the A'ahegre, the Kiltrex. The Kiltrex are unlike any enemy Kita has ever faced. They're as advanced as Angels, making them hard to kill. Kita must fight through the ship to get to the navigational computer to acquire the coordinates of A'a.

The second book of the Game of the Gods series does not disappoint. More Angels join Kita's forces - some from the life she's gradually remembering and some that she creates (although there are a couple of people I wish she would have turned into Angels that she didn't). This book delves further into the chaotic world of Kita's mind. More so than book one, it explores her role as the God of Evil. She's done some terrible things but even she has a threshold she won't cross. I admire her kindness towards her friends, soldiers, and lovers, yet I cringe at some of her decisions. I look forward to the point when she's remembered all of her past and the fully-fledged Kita is back.
This is the second book in L. Fergus’ Game of the Gods series and the search for the lost/stolen parts of Kita is playing out on a grand stage of galactic greed and space battles. Friends are found and lost as the powers that be continue to raise the stakes. Clouds moves the search for a whole Kita in the right direction, but at a high cost. Start reading and keep going.
Kira is a little more hedonistic in Clouds. Not necessarily a bad thing either. More themes of finding oneself. Kira is Kita, so fans of the series will be happy. Four out of five stars.
More battles, more bickering, more bloodshed—more better
It's more battles, more bickering, more bloodshed, in other words—more better. The blanks continue to be filled in & the challenges & criticisms keep coming up as Kita becomes more her true self & all the evilness that is her.
