Kira Lier thought she had escaped Underland and the monsters within, but her freedom was only an illusion, an extravagant lie created by the Underlords to keep her imprisoned. To break free and find Zeke and her friends, she teams up with Allyn, a mysterious young mage with a dangerous past.
When a bounty is put on their heads, she becomes the hunted, for the Underlord’s won’t let her slip through their grasp. She has been chosen by the Fates to save Underland because their world is dying, and their only hope lies in Kira surviving the deadliest game… the Labyrinth.

I threw my Kindle by the end of this book. I adored the first book and was so excited for the second but this book just didn't feel right. The RH/love triangle was awful and unneeded. I just wanted a continuation of the first.
I have read, own and love all of Chanda’s books. I have been anxiously awaiting the continuation of Underland, (which I love, loved). I was disappointed. I felt like the book was written just to get the storyline/series over with. It was rushed and the ending was disappointing. Chanda, please have the book edited better next time too. Quite a few errors too. Sad, its over and done.
Ok, let me first say Chanda is probably my favorite author. I love love love all of her books but I was sadly not very impressed with Underlord. It broke my heart to see Zeke trampled over by Allyn and at first I liked Allyn because I didn’t see him as a big part in Kira’s love life but because he was, I was extremely disappointed. I think the love triangle was fun at first but I was always on Zeke’s side. Oh how I wish the ending was different also. I just feel like it wasn’t a good wrap to the story and left me with a sick feeling. Loved Underland but I wish there was a third coming out to fix the problems for me in the second book. Also there were many errors in the book that should’ve been fixed. Ughhhh I wish I could love this book but now I’m left feeling empty from kinda how shallow Kira was to everyone. I didn’t like how her character developed. That said I still love Chanda but I guess my expectations are high because of her other books.
Overall, I think this was a great conclusion to the Underland chronicles and had a lovely unexpected ending. My only problem with this book at all was Allyn. I don’t think he was a necessary character and it added a love triangle that wasn’t needed. In the first book, Kiera was so cautious and weary of Zeke and their relationship/romance blossomed as she grew to trust him. With Allyn it felt like “okay, he’s good looking and I saved him so why not give into infatuation?” In many ways, I feel like Kiera almost gave up on Zeke too easily and allowed that distance to grow again when it shouldn’t have.
Perhaps I’m just biased because I’m Team Zeke all the way?
Despite this, I truly think it was a wonderful and well written book.

I started reading Chanda Hahn’s books in either fifth or sixth grade. My older sister recommended I read a series she’d read by her, called An Unfortunate Fairy Tale, and I was instantly hooked. From there, I ended up reading Chanda Hahn’s other works, because I enjoyed the stories and characters she came up with.
Perhaps that’s why I was so disappointed with Underlord, and why I’ve been so hesitant to pick up her books since then.
To get us up to date, here’s a quick recap of book one, Underlord: Our protagonist, Kira Lier, is a girl living on the streets of Portland after her father died and her mother remarried an abusive man. Shortly after her introduction she is kidnapped, and we find ourselves accompanying her to Underland, where the monsters of the world live. They have not kidnapped humans in a long time, and her captors have broken the rules by bringing her here. She is auctioned at a slave house, and is meant to be fed to Chanda Hahn’s take on zombies,
Along the way, we meet characters such as Zeke, our broody, zombie love interest with a tragic past; Chaz, a dorky, shapeshifter-werecheetah-hybrid; Alice, a sweet ghost ; and others.
Except forget all of that stuff, because Hahn does!
And that is, for the most part, where all of my issues with this book stem from. I really enjoyed Underland; it was shaping up to be a very interesting premise and I thought it might become my favorite of Hahn’s series. Then I found out it was only going to be a duology series, and I already started getting the sense that this might not turn out as well as I was hoping. That’s largely due to my feeling that Hahn cannot write a conclusive story in only two books; while I have nothing to say this for certain, I wouldn’t be surprised if this series was never initially intended to be written in only two books.
There were some blatant grammar and spelling errors, plenty of inconsistencies where you have to wonder why info wouldn’t have come up sooner, info that blatantly contradicts itself in terms of how the Labrynth works, and a lack of any real tension. The sudden shift to several perspectives whenever the first book only stuck with Kira’s, as well as a seemingly pointless and confusing prologue, also contribute to my dislike, among other things. I could continue to go on and on and talk further about the unsatisfactory ending or how Hahn chose a cop out to avoid having anything truly upsetting happen in the end.
Overall, it was a book that I was really looking forward to, but ultimately felt flat, almost as if Hahn’s heart wasn’t in it. I can only hope that when I read her newest book, Lost Shadow, it proves to be a better, conclusive ending to that series.
Do I recommend this book? Sadly, no. I would love to recommend just the first one, Underland, but the ending to that one is a cliffhanger, and I do not wish to subject anyone to feeling obligated to read this story. If you’re looking at Hahn’s books, definitely pick up The Iron Butterfly, UnEnchanted, or Lost Girl instead.
I LOVED the first book. The world building was enchanting and the characters really grew on you. I feel like it’s been forever of a wait for this one and to be honest I was kind of disappointed. I liked Allyn but I didn’t get the triangle thing. It felt unnatural and forced and shallow. I missed Zeke and all his undead charm from the first one here too. Overall this book was pretty good fun- I stayed up until 2 am to finish it be I didn’t want to put it down- until the end. What the heck?! It was so safe and non committal. I’m going to reread the first one again to get the annoying taste of this ones ending out of my mouth. 😒
This was a great follow-up to where we left in Underland. Chanda does a great job fleshing out her characters, and even though we saw a lot of growth in Kira in the first book, Kira continues to surprise and show us new elements to who she is. We also uncover secrets about Zeke and are introduced to a new character Allyn. While I did wish there was a different ending, the story itself was exciting.
I loved the first book(Underland) and could not wait for this book to be released. The series reminds me of The Hunger Games meets Twilight, but I think the heroine, Kira, is a strong and intelligent lead more similar to Catniss than Bella. I do,however, wish there was a third book.
*Note: this is not a standalone. Underland must be read first (although I do not recommend following with this one. Tropes: love triangle, alternate world/universe, quest, chosen one Genres & categories: fantasy, young adult, (very slightly) YA romance Triggers: death, abuse, violence

Review Alright, we have a real THIS-MADE-ME-ANGRY book here. What the F*** happened to this book, to this author? Chanda Hahn has written some great YA fantasy books; even the first book in this series had potential. But this? This is some shiiiiiiiiiiit. I've linked a great, long review below, so I'm going to try to keep my objections brief (or as brief as I ever am when I get pissed off at a book):
1) The love triangle. Get out. I could stop right here, really. This was enough for this book to majorly suck. Obviously, after the first book, I was Team Zeke. Patiently waiting to see their relationship develop in the second book. And I was 110% robbed. This was so unnecessary. Not just the addition of a love triangle in general, but this love triangle. How it was handled. It felt like Allyn was thrown in the story as a cardboard cutout "lets-make-this-a-love-triangle" character (just to annoy me?)... Meanwhile, her relationship with Zeke did not develop or progress whatsoever from the first book. I can't get over how stuuupid this entire plot point was. At the same time, cut out this dumb love triangle angle and you basically have no book, so there's that. And omg Also, I was over her acting like they were both just her "friends" when they were clear about liking her & she was toying with feelings for each of them back.
2) This book felt like it was written by a teenage, first-time author (which she's not). Grammar issues, plot holes, missed connections from the original plot line in the first book, repetitive & rudimentary writing. I screenshotted while reading specifically to be able to quote this in my review:
"The beast flung its head around howling, and she saw it. Her only weapon lodged in the beast's chest. Stuck between two ribs was her only weapon."
Wait, where was her only weapon? Did a professional, literary adult with a degree edit this book?
I honestly can't be bothered to write out all the problems in more detail, but this blog review (a longer, spoilers-included version of this goodreads review for post-reading analysis) is right on target. She even mentions that she doesn't think Chanda Hahn can write a duology, and this was probably meant to be a trilogy, and I think she's right on the mark. Sad, because I actually prefer duologies if they're done right.
This book. THIS BOOK. This book makes me MAD. Ok so I read the first book and I was absolutely obsessed with it. But this book...it’s like reading a completely new story with different characters!! If you read the first story, you will fall head over heels in love with Zeke, who proves himself to be kind, caring and devoted. In the second book he starts making a ton of horrible choices that are completely out of character, weakening his relationship with Kira. On top of that this annoying Allyn guy comes out of nowhere and for some reason Kira seems to be more interested in him! But you know what happens at the end? (Spoilers ahead) For any who may not have read the book, I’m assuming that you’re thinking Kira chooses Allyn. Wrong. Even worse. She chooses neither! And this isn’t some female power move, like “oh, I don’t need a man, I’m happy with myself” type situation. Nope. She just decides that she is going to choose between the two of them a few years down the road, but for now, I guess just lead them both on knowing she will drop one later (though it’s implied that she is going to choose Allyn, making the whole thing even worse). It’s clear that Mrs. Hahn had no idea where she was going with this story when she started writing it, and to a certain extent that is okay, but this was just ridiculous. For example, in the first book Den and Zeke had this big argument, and it was revealed that Zeke had this mysterious sister who something had happened to that had something to do with humans. Very vague, very intriguing. Seemed pretty important, right? Wrong. Sister never gets mentioned in the second book. It’s as if she doesn’t exist, which I presume is probably because Mrs. Hahn changed her mind, and she doesn’t. Oh, also speaking of Den, where was he? Guy was one of the most important characters in the first and he was hardly in this book at all. Never really explained what happened to him at the end. Anyway I don’t think Mrs. Hahn is a bad writer, but I was just really disappointed in this book. I got really invested in this series after the first book but clearly Mrs. Hahn didn’t like this project (as evidenced by the fact that she only wrote two books) and rushed to finish it without writing the ending that it deserved. Really sad for fans.

Anyone else really put off about this love triangle?
Like it felt very forced?
And then ending it with Kira not even deciding. like how selfish? LIKE GIRL TAKE ALL THE TIME YOU NEED AND NOT EVEN WORRY ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS? Its one thing to have romance in a book and then to shove a character who i actually loved and hated to jump in right at the last minute to fuck with a girls feelings.
It sucks because the first book had such strong connections and i was actually looking forward too seeing Zekes and Kiras relationship develop.
like don't get me wrong im not cutting out the other characters, the story wasn't just about Kira's undecided heart but also about the impending doom on Underland and its inhabitants.
it would have been a 5* book if the love triangle didn't bother me so much. but other than that the book was enjoyable and it was soooo nice to finally be able to read the end of Kiras journey.

I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first book. I have loved everything by the author so far (unfortunate fairy tale series, lost girl, iron butterfly, and underland) but Underlord was....underwhelming. Not as exciting or well written. It had its parts that were enjoyable and I loved seeing/hearing the characters again. It just lacked the wow factor of the other books that kept you wanting to read and not put it down. Overall I enjoyed it because of the first book and it tied up the storyline - but otherwise disappointed.
I have read all of Chanda Hahn's books and have loved them. This one although still good didn't quite hit the mark that the others did for me. And as some other reviewers have said I think the love triangle is to blame. Kira seemed to fall for Allyn very quickly which was surprising. But maybe it's because he told her what he thought and wanted to help her, he never pushed her away like Zeke did. That's the only explanation I could give as to why she liked him so much. Zeke was far more interesting. I would have loved to see more of the gods as well. I love Greek Mythology. I think a 3rd book is needed. It was kind of a nice ending that she didn't feel she had to choose someone but they are in a new world now I don't think she should be either mans center of it now. Let her fight for one of them this time.
So much has happened to our human Kira that this story provides a realistic and heartfelt conclusion. How else to beat the enemy by being smarter than they are? Not necessarily joining the problems but trying to survive and solve the problem issues. Faced with a “what if” scenario versus a dream scenario, our Kira is tried and tested. Her heart leading the way that makes her befriend many monsters, creatures and other supernatural beings while falling in love with two men, our Zombie Zeke and newly acquainted mage Allyn. We find who Zeke truly is and what major secret he hides; along with what the Labyrinth truly wants. What the Labyrinth wants will make your heart melt. So enjoy the ride of our Kira and her posse of strange creatures as her goal is simply to go back home to Portland.
Nobody's mind works like Chandas. She takes stories and fables and flips them on their head. She flips them inside out until they are brought out on a silver platter of pages and gifted to all of us as new untold adventures. 2 books was and will never be enough. New characters emerge in this book. Will a love triangle develop? Will Kira find love or end up alone back on the streets? You better read this book and find out because if you read book 1 you are itching for a conclusion as I was for so long. I'm saddened there is only 2 books. It really could be 3. This is a series I'm sure I will reread atleast once a year for many years to come.
I really felt attached to the characters in this book from reading the first book in the series, especially Kira, the main heroine. I'm so glad you get to see the rest of her story unfold. Scary adventures and hard choices face her so often your heart breaks for her over and over again. Things that started in the first book get neatly and nicely (okay, sometimes it wasn't so nicely, but that makes for a good story) wrapped up while others are left to leave you wondering. BUT, the things left hanging I was completely okay with! I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for high adventure, monsters of all kinds, and a little romance. Very well done!
I like to read books by Hahn because she always keeps them clean. She has a vivid imagination, giving me the essence of a true fairytale. The characters are fully formed, but in a childish way that isn't too deep. Sometimes the choices seem odd, like Mira kissing a guy she just met only moments before when she is supposedly falling for someone else. Also, a good editor needs to read through this because I found a number of small mistakes that interrupted the reading for me a little. The ending was what you would expect from a fairytale. Overall a book I enjoyed reading for fun.
I absolutely loved Underland and was super excited for Underlord to be released. I purposely read it slowly so I could take it all in and process it as I went. It was a great book and I will recommend it. I would also buy it on Audible if it becomes available. I'm conflicted about the ending, or maybe just not as satisfied as I normally am. The ending of the Labyrinth was a bit predictable but still good. I won't give any spoilers but the relationships at the end were cute.
I love a good maze runner kind of story. I was ready for this book. We finally get to see what Kira is all about. The love triangle was a bit tiring but things happen. Allyn knowing what is going to happen in the future makes you understand more of the choices made. To me anyway. I felt this book was a bit rushed. It might be that I wasn't ready for it to end. I think that I might go back and read these together because it was a bit of a space between them. Good books though. Worth reading again.
Well that was an interesting read. I really enjoyed this series way more than I had expected. There were many moments where I wasn't sure where Chanda was going to take this story. She did an excellent job tying up the story and answering so many questions that were left unanhswered from book 1. I won't share any spoilers, but there were a few things that were revealed that left me stunned. I love that it wasn't so obvious while reading. I found this book to be fast paced, a page-turner with great world building.
I enjoyed this story, but it took me a while to get into it. I think that was just because it's the second in the series and I didnt reread the first book before starting this one. I would recommend a reread if it's been a while. There were a lot of references to past events and people that I had a hard time remembering. However, the story itself was amazing! And I like how it ended! Highly recommend this series!
I found this one harder to get into because of the love triangle. I have been waiting for this book from the first day Underland came out. I feel let down. I really wanted to see Zeke and Kira end up together and the whole triangle threw it off and made it less interesting and more irritating. But I would read a third if one was to come out with the hope the Kira picks Zeke that is....this book was just okay in my mind.
I’ve been a fan of Chanda Hahn ever since reading the Unfortunate Fairy Tale series. And after patiently waiting for the sequel to Underland I was a little disappointed, I really wanted to give this book more stars. I enjoyed the storyline but it was so hard to follow with so many spelling mistakes and missing words in sentences that I had to guess what was being said and who said it.
Everything else about the book was great just needs another revise.
I had originally thought that this series was going to have three books to it, so while I was excited this one came out, I was hoping I wasn't going to be too upset for a cliff hanger ending. I was very surprised when it said it was the end of the series, but I really loved how she ended everything and how things wrapped up. I was also very excited that I didn't have to wait for another one to come out! Definitely loved this series even if I think it was too short!
Underlord- In this “Underland” sequel, Kira meets another male companion and grows to possibly like him. Not only do the Underlords keep her on close watch, but now she has two guys who she cares for to worry about. Zeke and Allyn are both amazing and worth meeting. Zeke is very protective and Allyn is the funniest. I wouldn’t be able to choose between them if given the chance. Kira’s story is worth the read!! And the ending will leave you astounded!
This isn’t one of my favorite series by Hahn, but it has its own strange kind of charm. I have to agree that the love triangle was a bit pointless and I would have liked a more final decision from Kira in the end. However, it’s not one that I can’t learn to live with. I loved the twist on all the Greek mythology and of course Hahn gave it her own special flair! It’s not one you’ll regret reading, but I would definitely recommend her other series over this one.
I hate to do this as I've loved everything else I've read my Chanda Hahn... but this was such a flop. I've been sitting at 80% done for weeks and it's due back and I can't bring myself to finish it or re check it out. It's a good concept but felt really undeveloped. It started feeling like things were coming out of nowhere with nothing to back it up.
Also, why does everyone who looks at her fall in instalove?
I loved book one but Underlord was not what I was expecting at all. I loved the chemistry and slow burn relationship between Zeke and Kira and it was one of the big draws of the first book for me but sadly Underlord kind of threw that all away by adding in another random love interest. Maybe I’m wrong but I got the impression the book was rushed and the author’s heart just wasn’t fully in it anymore.
I really liked this book. It ended in a way where we got answers but left alot not answered. Definatly needs a 3rd book. Disappointed she didnt say who Kira choose, Zeke or Allyn. I am voting for Zeke. I like Allyn tok but he seemed to hide too much, even if Zeke did too he atleast came clean with her and told her everything.
I have to say I loved this book even more than the first one. Readers finally find out who Zeke is and why he keeps his distance. When Kira meets Allyn, she must decide if she should trust the guy with a dark past. I highly recommend reading the first one again before reading this one if it's been a while.
