A drizzle in the desert is a simple story told beautifully. The story revolves around Abhi and Anjali and their journey with Deepali. It's a very quick read and the author has kept the pace of the story! Well done !! The publishing was a little shoddy though.. the pages not aligned properly made it sad to look at. Nice read for a relaxed Sunday!
The book opens up with the beautiful friendship between Abhi and Deepali. Abhi soon develops liking for Anjali and confesses his love for her. They get married and life flows smoothly for them. Deepali who is married to Karthik now faces some marital problems and Abhi comes forward to help his best friend. This act of Abhi upsets Anjali who becomes insecured as she suspects that Abhi and Deepali are having an affair. All this creates disturbance in Abhi's life. Not just this, he also keep thinking why his father Sundaram is devoting his entire life taking care of his friend Vasudevan and not giving much time to his own family.
What is making Anjali so insecure? Why Sundaram is devoting his life to his friend Vasudevan? To know all this you will have to read this book.
MY FAVORITE PARTS OF THE BOOK? I liked the true friendship between Abhi and Anjali and especially how Abhi handles complicated situation at Deepali's place so well.
I really admired the character of Sundaram because he was an understanding father and always gave space to Abhi. Sundaram has many wonderful insights on life, in topics ranging from friendships to professional life. He proved to be a true friend to Vasudevan and above all a kind human being. I liked how he was there for Vasudevan when he needed him always. How he was there to take care of him so well, ( whether it was combing his hair or changing his shirt and devoting most of his time for Vasudevan). In this world where people are so occupied in their own lives, Sundaram not only takes good care of his friend but also go out of the way to fulfill his last wish of finding his lost son. I admire Sundaram's understanding nature towards everyone around him. How he advices Gopal Krishnan to get married to Madhumita is what shows his positive outlook towards life. I liked how over the course of the novel Karthik undergoes a definite transformation from being arrogant to kind person.
Overall it is an engaging read. The book is very well-written and the writing style of Author is really impressive. I found the cover picture and title apt. This book gives a strong message about friendships to all readers about how we should be there for our friends when they need us the most.
RATING: I give the book 5/5 Stars and highly recommend it! I really think people who believe in true friendship would especially like to read it.
Abhi has the perfect life many would envy to have - lovely wife Anjali who was his erstwhile classmate, and their family is complete with a sweet daughter. He has a high paying job and his boss has complete faith in him to extend their company operations in India. However, things start getting worse, as Abhi tries to help out their classmate and now colleague Deepali. Deepali’s marriage to Karthik is on the verge of a split and Abhi’s involvement in trying to save her marriage makes Anjali uncomfortable suspecting a probable affair between her husband and Deepali.
In addition to this, Abhi’s father Sundaram decides to stay back away from their family with his friend Vasu, catering to Vasu’s needs only, his entire life revolving around Vasu. This relation between Sundaram and Vasu is also a matter of contention between Abhi and Anjali. Rest of story is about how Abhi sorts the issues in his life and if finally there comes a drizzle in the life of Abhi and people around him, Deepali, Anjali, Sundaram and Vasu.
The characters are well etched and developed, each having their own graph and place in the narration. The story is a wonderful family narrative with the right amount of emotions. Abhi’s family, Deepali and Karthik, Sundaram and Vasu, all the characters get the right amount of footage. Abhi establishing the new office in India is also dealt with nicely. The book has a good pace and engrosses the reader from the first page.
However, the language used is good in some parts and in others leaves much to be desired. It doesnt feel like prose but sounds more conversational. Better editing at places could have made the book a much better read.
Pick this one for a interesting family drama, laced with the right emotions and perfect characters. The book is unputdownable and makes for a quick, enjoyable read.
Book: A Drizzle in the Desert Author: P.C. Balasubramanian Publication: Inkstate (4th September, 2018) Pages: 232 Price: Rs 228 Genre: Fiction Ratings: ***/5*
P.C. Balasubramanian’s ‘A Drizzle in the Desert’ is a story of a picture perfect life that everyone longs for – a high profile corporate job in the USA, being married to your lover, who was once your girlfriend now your wife of seven years, a toddler daughter, an understanding father in India, affinity to come to India every 3 months, big degrees of prestigious Indian Premier Institutes, well Abhi has it all; one can actually think off. But is Abhi’s life actually what it seems to be – to find out more you need to read this tale affirmation, bonding and mutual dependency- between friends, between father and son, between husband and wife, between couples, between a boss and his employee, between colleagues, between the college buddies. As a reader when you start reading this book one feel everything going so smoothly in this tale, incidents occurring one after the other and falling on the right place at its correct timings but once you reach towards the last few chapters one suddenly realizes the catch – the twist, the turn of events which makes the story a good tale where author has used his story telling power brilliantly. The story pace is absolutely proper. The usage of language is pretty simple which certainly could have been worked upon a little more. There are a very few characters in this story. The author has tried to portray each character like it should have been, which as a reader I felt little obvious. A little more in depth characterization would have been better, I believe for this kind of storytelling. There has been wide use of brand names which at times I felt like being used force fully. I would like to mention about the extremely small chapters which got finished before it was started. It is always said ‘first impression is the last impression’. In case of new book, many a time we judge it by its cover and blurb. Sadly, in this case I wasn’t at all impressed with either of the two, the ratings was given solely because of the surprise which made it a good narration by a wise narrator. Overall, ‘A Drizzle in the Desert’ by P.C. Balasubramanian’s is good one time easy and simple read with amazing and unexpected twists and turn in the end.
A real good story which is not only appealing but would make you think deeply about what is happening in the present day world when it comes to relationships. India has always had a traditional joint family system which slowly started getting disintegrated in the twentieth century. The story revolve around Abhishek or Abhi, The Protagonist who has doned the role of a caring son, loving husband, affectionate father and above all, a great lover.
Abhi had a crush on Anjali during his college days. On the other hand, Deepali was affectionate towards Abhi. Abhi gets married to Anjali and Deepali to Karthik. While Deepali had troubled marriage, Abhi was leading a cozy life in the U.S. looking after the operations of NeoMart. All comes to a standstill one day when he was asked to head over to India to make the company more profitable.
Anjali never wanted to move since she felt that her daughter Avantika would have a better life and prospects in the USA. On the other hand, she was apprehensive about a mystery man who Abhi's father was taking care of, back in India.
Who is this man?
Why is Abhi's father Sundaram so much indebted to him?
What happens to Deepali?
Did Anjali move to India along with Avantika?
The story emphasize on the importance of human relationships. Author has handled the otherwise delicate subject with such an ease. It would make you feel for the characters in few places and you would desperately wanted things to happen real fast. This isn't a movie but a book where you need to spend quite few hours for you to see as to how the story takes its shape or transforms.
Whether the ending is a happy one or not, is something for you to figure it out by buying this real good story/novel.
The story revolves around Abhi, head of supply chain in a retail conglomerate, living in USA with his wife, Anjali and his daughter. His company's CEO, James, is planning to move their backend operations to India, and chooses Abhi for this work. However, things start getting worse, as Abhi tries to help out his old classmate and now colleague Deepali. Deepali’s marriage to Karthik is about to break and Abhi’s involvement in the matter makes Anjali suspicious of a probable affair between her husband and Deepali. On the other hand, Abhi's father, Sundaram, who has dedicated his life to Vasudhevan, wants Abhi to fulfill Vasu's last wish. What's this wish, and will he be able to fulfill it? Is there something going on between Deepali and Abhi? Will Anjali ever find the real truth? To know all these answers, you have to read this book.
This book is all about love, a troubled marriage, a father-son bond, and a far-fetched request. It's a good, fast-paced story with a perfect blend of emotions, suspense and bonding. There are very few characters in the book, but all the characters are very well-developed, making it an engaging read. The writing style is quite remarkable, and easy to comprehend. The details are profound and clear to the point. The author did an excellent job, making the characters and stories relatable.
The main characters including Abhi’s family, Deepali and Karthik, Sundaram and Vasu are very well developed. There is detailed descriptions of their lifestyle and sentiments are involved so the reader gets to love or despise each of them. The story of a family is very sensitive and the author has made sure to display the right amount of emotions to tangle with the plot. The story is uplifting and compassionate when a family man tries his best possible to fix his family back.
Narrative:
I've had mixed feelings while rating the storytelling skills of the author. That's mainly because of some extraordinary prose in major parts of the book that I really enjoyed, and some parts needed better editing. I adored the writing, especially when the narrative deals with the issues within the family and his marriage. The author has done an excellent job to keep the consistency in pace of the story making it a very quick read. I read it in a single sitting.
Final thoughts:
A perfect binge read for the lovers of family drama with the right pinch of romance.
Thanks to Vinfluencers for a copy. All opinions are honest and they're solely mine.
Abhishek,Anjali,Sundaram,Vasudevan,Karthik and Deepali are the main protagonists of the book by P.C Bala Subramanian. ☕️ The story moves fast paced from New York to Delhi to Coimbatore withon a blink of an eye.The story, which is the first romantic-novel of the author revolves around the lives of the protagonists and is woven with great aura of feelings and love for one's family. There are intrigues and moments where I wanted to know more. Each character in the story is unique and has their own back story which I loved. ☕️ There is a troubled marriage,a father-son relationship and pinches of friendship throughout.I liked the narratives, they are not dragged. However the plot could have been a whole lot better. The language doesn't make me it's crazy fan either. But the story has potential with a twisted and interesting turn. ☕️ This is a breezy, light read and I would recommend to everyone who love drama,character-oriented stories and romance. ☕️
After "Ready, Steady, Exit", PCB sir comes up with another fiction book "A Drizzle in the Desert". The story is conveyed through six characters - Abhishek, Anjali, Sundaram, Vasudevan, Karthik and Deepali. A successful corporate leader, a wife suspicious of her husband's relationship with their college friend, a marriage which is facing the threat of falling apart, a widower father who shares a unique bond with his long time friend - the story explores the lives of these unique personalities and the relationships they share, the storms they face and how they come to terms with reality. PCB sir is known for his simple and down to earth style of narrating things as can be seen from his earlier books and he continues the trend here too.. The cover of the book shows a man with his stretched arms in a desert as if he is experiencing a drizzle.. Go and read it.. It's an engrossing read
PC has written a really remarkable book. The story is as heartwarming as it is credible. There are moments when you think that only a person of great wisdom could have written certain lines.
The contemporary issues that are touched upon here - father son relationship, spouse jealousy, meaning of a real friendship and also to live a life of sacrifice without making a big fuss about it - are real and well woven into the story without being ‘judgmental’.
“A Drizzle in the Desert” is a good family drama with a pinch of romance, affection, and friendship. The story mainly revolves around the protagonist Abhishek “Abhi” Sundaram. He has a perfect life that everyone longs for- a high profile job in the USA, being married to the girl whom he loves for seven years, a toddler loving daughter. But this picture-perfect life of Abhi takes a rift after his company agreed to start their new office in Indian with Abhi as its head. Anjali likes to stay in the USA and don’t want to move back to India, but Abhi loves this idea because he wants to rekindle his relationship with his father. The situation becomes worse when Deepali, Abhi’s best friend and classmate joins with him as a colleague. Deepali is married to Karthik and they are suffering from some marital problems. Abhi reaches out a helping hand to her unknowingly creates problems in his life. This act of kindness leads Anjali suspecting him of having an affair with his best friend affair. Abhi’s father Sundaram has dedicated his life to the care and service to his friend Vasudevan and this further complicates Anjali’s misconceptions. Vasudevan is also expecting a favor from Abhi too. How Abhi sort out this ever-growing complication in his family is the rest of the story.
Highlights
$The beauty of relationships- between wife and husband, between father and son, between friends, between boss and employees, between colleagues- is portrayed very well throughout the story.
$The relationship, I personally like is between Abhi and his father Sundaram. A son who wants to reconnect with his father, who has been separated by the distance and a father who completely understands and believes in his son.
$The title and cover apt for the plot, however it can be made something more creative. The guy with his open hands and facing a desert hoping for a drizzle is what exactly covers the whole story.
$The story is well crafted with a good amount of character development. The author certainly has a convincing narrative style.
Overall it is a good read with an unexpected twist and turns and a satisfying epilogue.
This book is a pleasant walk on a busy road. we really need that walk. To be honest there is no much of story or plot to put here. An usual family drama with tint of romance and loads of love and affection.
Abhi is caught between his love Anjali and Deepali, his friend in his American life. He cannot let go anyone that easily as he values both of them. In the midst of this, Abhi is assigned to India to start the company branch. He is excited to be back to India as he could see his father Sundaram. But Anjali refuses to join him as Sundaram is not alone. He has his Vasu forever in his life for a genuine reason which he has not disclosed to anyone yet. Now Abhi has to find a way to get away from this or solve this to have his life back.
The relationship hurdles and moments were beautifully put in without any detailing of fight or fun. Just like our day today life.
The book title and cover itself is so good. A small act of kindness is all we need in our life which will be exactly the same feel as like a drizzle in the desert. Author had touched the sensitive topic of affair but handled so maturely. That mature act was seen almost in all pages.
These days we don’t see many family drama novels on the store. May be the story could be simple but at times these books ease up our mood easily. This book was fast paced too. It could be finished in one sit.
The language was straightforward yet I felt that the conversation part could have been deep. I at times felt the emotions were missing or not effectively described( especially on Sundaram pages). The emotions were let off easily where it was much needed to be described. But every character had equal preferences. Karthik was an absolute charm.
Overall ” A Drizzle In The Desert” is a beautiful family entertainer to get you immersed and involved with all kinds of family emotions and relationships.
The book is a very little read, with the rendered in simple language by the author. The story is like an ordinary family drama, involving characters from your daily life. The same age old drama in a modified way, where a son tries connecting with his dad and making up for the years lost between them due to the distance across the globe.
The story is based on the character, Abhi who started working in the United States fulfilling his dreams after college. Well, he did manage to marry his college sweetheart, Anjali and lived in the Estates with their daughter. The story revolves around the life of Abhi where he is busy convincing his wife to move to India for his own career benefit as well as family bonding. With the usual character of a third wheel in the marriage, the plot is a readily available family drama. The character Deepali acts as a third wheel in the story, where Anjali hates their friendship and Karthik (Deepali's husband) abuses the relationship called 'friendship'. The plot doesn't have just one third wheel, Vasudevan (a friend of Abhi's father) who is terminally ill and has been tagged as a burden in their lives by Anjali. There is a reason why Vasu has been hanging around in their life for sometime. With the course of Abhi would discover the reason for Vasu's existence in their lives. There are numerous questions with the proceeding course of the story. However, the readers would discover the facts with the second half pacing a bit. There is a lot of family drama and emotions involved in the story. I believe, a character which I feel bad for is Deepali, who is a loss with a drunkard husband and a college crush turned best friend, Abhi. There is way lot to discover with the proceeding story.

Writing & Narration: This story contains a massive amount of emotions; hence, the narration seems to be good enough. The author has managed to keep a balance between every emotion. However, the writing part could have been a bit better.
Title & Cover: The cover and title both match well with the story.
Pros: Good characterization Touching presentation Cons: Writing could have been a bit better.
My Verdict: This book is a combination of different emotions, including love, sorrow, hatred, betrayal, guilt, and a lot of helping hand. It’s a good roller-coaster ride of a book with happy beginnings, dreadful middle, and ending you’d have to find out. Read it and know more.
