Dark Falls #3
Dark Legacy
Rhys Evans
Sixteen years…
For sixteen years he’d lived with the certainty that they’d caught the right guy… convicted the right guy… punished the right guy. While life behind bars didn’t make up for what the bastard had done, the families he’d destroyed, or the lives he’d stolen, the fact he’d died a broken, lonely man locked in a cell had been a small comfort. But now Ariel was back — the onetime love of his life and the daughter of Dark Fall’s infamous serial killer. She rolled into town with her icy smile, furious eyes and baseless accusations of police corruption. Damn it to hell, Hamilton had been the X-factor killer, he was absolutely certain of that — no matter how desperately Ariel wanted to prove him wrong.
Ariel Hamilton
Sixteen years…
For sixteen years she’d lived with the knowledge her father had been framed, and watched him waste away in prison for crimes he hadn’t committed. Nobody had believed her back then. Even Rhys, the boy she’d loved with all her heart, had walked away. It had been a hard lesson, but she’d learned it well — count on no one. Now she finally had proof of her dad’s innocence. Proof that Dark Falls police department had framed an innocent man and covered it up… were still covering it up. She wasn’t nineteen anymore, she wouldn’t be cowed and ran out of town. She’d stay and fight to clear her father’s name. Even if that meant drawing the real killer out… even if that meant making herself a target and losing a second chance with the only man she’d ever loved

Crazy😵 Coincidences
A body discovered in a familiar forest body dumping ground bears the mark of a copy cat serial killer? The original killer convicted, dead and gone, or is he? His two daughters are still out there, one an FBI agent and the other a crime fiction writer.
In between is Rhys🐺🔫, a local Dark Falls police detective, who was once the college boyfriend of Ashley, the killer's daughter, now an FBI agent.
The newly murdered victim shows the same grisly crime scene clues that were never made public!
Detective Rhys🐺🔫 is taken off the case immediately because his twin sister was one of the original victims!
This is just too cozy and too coincidental for me.
Who knew the town of Dark Falls was so rife with violent unsolved crime?
ARC Received from Hidden 💎Gems
I also got the book with KU.

Though I read book one and missed book two in the series, I decided to check this one out.
We are back in Dark Falls. This time the story belongs to Detective Rhys Evans, and crime writer Ariel Hamilton. They were HS and college sweethearts until the day her father was accused of being a serial killer, jailed, while Ariel believed in his innocence and Rhys not believing he was. But he had reasons for those feelings.
They both left town going their separate ways, until sixteen years later. An anonymous call prompts Ariel back to Dark Falls and now she is more determined that ever to clear her father’s name.
The attraction is still there, but more importantly, someone wants Ariel dead. This begins a cat and mouse chase filled with suspense, whodunit, and lots of sparks flying between Ariel and Rhys. Will she survive the attempts on her life and be able to clear her father of wrong doing, or will the killer get to her first?
Non-stop action with strong characters that will keep you guessing.
Quoting a comment from the author, I am “a thousand percent” sure that I will read other books in the series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Wth!?!
Book just stops half way thru, and no I don't mean it ends in a cliffhanger, I mean it literally just stops. Like half of the book is missing....? It was so good so far, too. So upset about this. I loved this series so far and non of the other books have done this and no I'm apprehensive about the next book in case it does this too. Wth!?!?!

Disappointing
I read two other books in this series and was entertained enough to continue. However, this one ended in the middle of the story. I won't be purchasing additional books from this series.

Okay.... This had me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning. It starts with a murder that leads to a copycat murderer or the original murderer from fourteen years prior. The man convicted for the crimes fourteen years ago was Ariel's father. Ariel has always insisted that her father was innocent. Now she was on the trail of the murderer to prove her father posthumously did not commit the murders. Ariel Hamilton is a kick-@*s character. She is smart, wise, ingenious and is willing to head into the new situation one thousand percent. Her ex, Rhys Evans, was now a detective on the Dark Falls Police Department. Rhys walked away from Ariel, when her father was accused of murdering his twin sister. There is a lot of suspense and danger in the story. Now the killer was after Ariel. Why? she did not know. On more than one occasion he tried to get at her, but failed. Ariel did not take anything for granted and did all she could to protect herself. When the detectives became aware of her safety measures, it garnered their respect. The flame between Rhys and Ariel was not dead and it showed up from time to time. It was creative the way the serial killer orchestrated everyone around him to his will. He dropped hints by phone and by letter. He arranged for things to be found that would incriminate him. But he laughed at the police force for their stupidity that he was right under their noses all along. He played them. But it wasn't until the end that we find out who the serial killer is and why he did what he did. There is only one drawback. The story did not resolve the situation between Ariel and her younger sister, FBI agent, Ashley. That was disappointing. Also, it would not have hurt to have had an epilogue perhaps covering the exoneration of Ariel's father and the reestablishment of Ariel and Rhys' relationship. Did they move in together? Did they get married, have kids? What about Ariel's career as a non-fiction crime writer? Did she write about the X Factor Killer and make it into a book? So many unanswered questions. Other than that, this book provided a tension filled, suspenseful, dangerous, wild rollercoaster ride. There were so many twists and turns. It was hard to guess what would happen next. An exciting read and I do recommend it.

A story of second chances, suspense, and murder. The third book in the Dark Falls line of romantic thrillers. This series is a multi-author collaboration.
Ariel Hamilton, a young woman whose father was framed for multiple murders while she was in college. Ariel lost her college fund, her father, her boyfriend, and her future after her father is arrested and convicted for multiple murders in the small town of Dark Falls, Colorado. He’s accused of being the X Factor Killer. Someone wants her to come back to Dark Falls, fourteen years after she left town.
Rhys Evans, a young man whose life was also changed fourteen years ago. He was headed to the NFL, but after tragedy struck his family, he changes his path for his future. He is now a detective for the Dark Falls Major Crime unit. He lost the love of his life fourteen years ago along with is future in the NFL. Will he find peace now?
This was the first book I’ve read in the Dark Falls, CO series. It was a good story, full of suspense, twists, and a great love story as well. The characters were enjoyable to read, Ariel is a strong woman who is sassy and resourceful. She has been taking care of herself for fourteen years and is able to keep herself safe when she’s being hunted. Rhys is a smart detective who finds himself starting to believe Ariel’s claims that her father was framed. He knows Ariel and is able to keep her focused when she is being questioned by the police. The pages turned quickly, and the story pulled me in from the first page, with the first case.
I give this story a 4.5-star review and recommend it to readers who like thriller, suspense, and crime stories. I hope to read more of this series in the near future.

4+* ARC Review- ARC introduced the Dark Falls World
When I received the ARC of Dark Legacy from Hidden Gems, it spurred me to read the earlier books in the series before this one. The ARC is exchange for an honest review. Although you do not really need to read any prior books or the stories in order, I am glad I did!! One of the best features of this series is that it is written by many authors, which I think I really appreciated here.
This is the story of Detective Rhys Evans, who is brought into a case that holds a prominent place in his past and the latest crime brings his high school/college sweetheart back to town. Ariel is phoned by an anonymous caller, who informs her that another murder has taken place and proves that her father was innocent. With the phone call and her belief that her father was wrongly convicted, Ariel returns to her hometown to find her once NFL prospect boyfriend now a Major Crimes Detective in Dark Falls.
The book is a great story about an earlier serial killer case that rocked their town of Dark Falls and how the resolution of that case affected many people, especially Rhys and Ariel. Being a true crime writer, she understands a lot about the process. Ariel was so smart and savvy about how to protect herself and how she investigates crime it really added to the direction of the mystery took. I enjoyed how the story evolved and how the readers learned who the killer was. It was action packed with a great mystery to it. Plus, I think Rhys and Ariel had great chemistry and just naturally belonged together, without it being cheesy!

This romantic suspense is a mind blowing and thrilling read that readers can really sink their teeth into. Ariel and Rhys are strong, captivating characters that make it easy for readers to connect which in turn makes it easy for them to become completely caught up in the story. The chemistry between Rhys and Ariel sizzling with lots of electrical intensity that readers can feel leaping off the pages but it also has some strong emotional vibes flowing from the characters as well, which isn’t really surprising considering the situation these two are in. The past relationship between the hero and heroine play an integral part in the story and is the cause of a lot of the emotional turbulence which keeps the outcome of their relationship in question.
The plot is steady to fast paced and steadily builds the suspense throughout which keeps readers glued to the pages as a sixteen year old crime begins to unravel and truths are revealed. Ariel was always convinced of her dad’s innocence while others including Rhys were sure that he was the infamous serial killer. This keeps emotions in constant turmoil while surprising twists and betrayals keep readers on the edge of their seat. The story takes place in an intriguing small town which adds ambiance to the story and as more information and evidence comes to light, everyone starts to realize the far reaching consequences of ‘what if they were wrong’ which ensures that there is never a dull moment to be found in this thrilling romantic suspense.

Ariel left Dark Falls after her father was found guilty of being a serial killer- the XFactor killer after the x that is carved into the victims. His last victim was the twin sister of Ariel's then college boyfriend, Rhys. Ariel has since become a successful true crime writer and has never returned to Dark Falls. But one phone call changes all of that.
Rhys was a rising potential for NFL stardom but after his sister is murdered that all changes and he instead makes a career out of becoming a police detective.
Ariel was always adamant that her father was innocent but it drove her Rhys apart, because he believed the detectives that investigated the murders. One of those detectives became his mentor after supporting him so much in the aftermath of his sister's murder, and have since become a colleague and friend.
Then a new murder happens with all the signatures of the XFactor killer. Ariel receives a phone call in the middle of the night that draws her back to Dark Falls, determined to prove her father's innocence not knowing the real danger she's in. Can her and Rhys work together to find out what's really happening? Or will th or different views force them to work against each other in their quest for answers?
I enjoyed this instalment in the series, it had me guessing right from the start. And whilst there was mention of Ariel's sister, she never actually appeared in the book so I'm not really sure what this side plot added to the story.

Rhys Evans and Ariel Hamilton were HS and College sweethearts until the X-Factor killer killed his twin sister and her father was accused of being the X-Factor killer. Rhys had a rising football career but left college after the death of his sister and he and Ariel broke up. He became interested in a law enforcement career and became a dectective back in Dark Falls. Ariel always believed that her father was framed and became a crime writer. Ariel was lured back to Dark Falls by an anonymous call. Both Rhys and Ariel are shocked to see each other in more ways than one since they still both feel the connection that they had 16 years ago.
I liked that we got to see what the X-Factor killer was thinking even though we don't know for sure who it is. It's finally narrowed down between two detectives who had investigated the X-Factor case before. Ariel is in danger and Rhys and his partner are tasked with keeping Ariel safe. Ariel is no shrinking violet and is instrumental in taking precautions to keep herself safe.
This is a well written suspense book. I always like reading Trish McCallan's books. I haven't read any of the other Dark Falls books but I plan to. I received a free copy from Hidden Gems and am leaving my honest review.

14 years ago, Det. Rhys Evans and crime author Ariel Hamilton were an absorbed teenaged couple Rhys and Ariel. Their romance was shattered when Rhys’ twin sister was murdered by a serial killer and Ariel’s father was arrested and convicted. Ariel never believed in her father’s guilt and Rhys never believed in his innocence and Ariel’s father maintained he was framed until his death in prison.
Two days ago, Ariel and her sister FBI agent, Ashley received midnight calls relating their father had been innocent, Dark Falls police was and are withholding information about a similar recent murder. Ariel hurries to town and find the truth maybe finally exonerating her father. Running into each other as soon as she gets to town, still attracted but also cognizant of the reasons for their breakup.
Within 24hours of Ariel’s arrival, Rhys receives a note intimated they’d arrested the wrong man and Ariel’s hotel room is broken into. Rhys’ worried Ariel was lured to town to be a victim, Ariel’s convinced Dark Falls police frame the innocent, hide and destroy evidence. Rhys wonders if Ariel was right all along just as Ariel begins to investigate the original string of crimes as killer gets her in his sights.

Exciting suspense with a little romance thrown in.
Ariel's dad was convicted years ago of horrible crimes and branded a serial killer. She has always believed in his innocence. She is on a mission to clear his name and find the real killer. One day she receives a call from a mysterious person claiming that she needs to return to Dark Falls and learn the truth. After arriving in town, no one believes her theory about her dad, not even her first love, Rhys. Rhys is now a detective in Dark Falls and believes that there is just a copy cat killer terrorizing the town again. Can these two figure out the truth and rekindle the love that they lost while fighting to survive? This is an excellent suspense novel with a lot of twists and turns. Kudos to the author for including a 'Dean from Supernatural', reference. I did voluntarily review this book after receiving it for free.

DARK LEGACY By Trish McCallan
This is the 3rd book set in Dark Falls. I wanted to read it as Trish McCallan is always writes a great story. I buy all her books as soon as I see one is released. This is an excellent read! You have suspense, intrigue, and romance. It will certainly keep you engrossed and turning pages.
This is about Dark Falls P.D. detective Rhys Evans and crime writer Ariel Hamilton. They were together through high school and college. They fell apart when Rhys' twin was murdered and Ariel's dad was convicted of it, she always believed and maintained her father was innocent. Rhys was convinced they had the killer. Sixteen years later something happens that brings Ariel back to Dark Falls to investigate and to see if she can find out how he was framed. You need to read this book. I am giving it 5 stars.

After reading “Dark Legacy” by Trish McCallan I want to read more from this author. Trish McCallan is a new author to me. From the beginning I was drawn in for it started with a homicide, a copycat of the Kenneth Hamilton case. The big problem with the investigation is the signature is the same and it was never released. Throughout the book there are twist and turns I did not expect and had to read on to find out who is the killer. Then when a digital mask caller called Ariel about the murder stating her father is innocent just added to the plot of the book. Once I stated reading the book I could not put the book down for I wanted to know who is the killer. After reading “Dark Legacy” I am searching for more books. I highly recommend this book.
I was given an advanced reader copy of this book for my honest review.

I found this book super exciting. If you are looking for a hot a steamy quick burn, this is not the book for you, but if you are looking for a suspenseful crime fiction with a little romance on the side, this is for you.
Ariel and Rhys have a history together. Neither on of them ended up with the life they thought they would have. They were high school sweethearts and when they were in high school terrible things happened to both of them. Their lives are forever intertwined however and they end up back together to figure out the mystery that has plagued them since they were in high school.
I loved the characters and the suspenseful story line. It kept me guessing until the end. Would highly recommend this book.

The chemistry between Rhys and Ariel is smokin' and off the chains . The story leaves you on the edge of your seat . This is a fantastic well written story . A second chance romance included . The characters are incredible . I really enjoyed reading this book . I highly recommend taking the time to read and enjoy this story . I'm looking forward to more in this series .

Ariel had left her home town when her father had been convicted of murder. One of the people who had been murdered was her boyfriends sister which caused her to lose her first love too because she believed her father didn't do it. Now 14 years later she gets a phone call saying there had been another X Factor murder and her father was really innocent. Ryhs sister dying had sent him on a different path than he had planed in stead of playing football he became a police detective instead. After 14 years someone is now copying the murder of his sister. This a murder mystery, romance and thriller all rolled into one. Action packed with plenty surprises that will keep you guessing as to who done it. Great all round read.

Loved Ariel
I loved loved loved Ariel. Strong, smart, badass woman. Definitely not someone TSTL. Interesting story and would have been 5 stars but too many unanswered questions and weak justification for the murders. Heck, if it wasn't for the h I probably would have given the book only 3 stars. The ending was a real disappointment.
Now if the story would continue into the other books then maybe the unresolved plot would be ok but since this is the 3 book I can tell you it doesn't seem to be any cross over between books. You might as well just read your favorite authors or interesting plots.
Hope Ashley gets her own story from the author outside this series, she seems interesting.

I really enjoyed reading this story!
Dark Legacy is a compelling
& suspenseful book.
Rhys, a detective with the Dark Falls PD.
They just got caught a new case.
It eerily resembles cases from sixteen
years ago. He was called the X Factor Killer. Rhys thought of Aria, & this new information they had.
Aria, received a call in the middle of the
night. The caller said the new body dumped, proves her father's not guilty. She had always believed her father was innocent. What she didn't know was Rhys is now a detective for Dark Falls PD.
It will grab your interest from the first
pages, & kept you guessing till the end!!

3.5 Stars
Dark Legacy by Trish McCallan is book Three in the Dark Falls Series. This is the story of Ariel Hamilton and Rhys Evans. I haven't yet read the previous books, so for me this was a standalone book. Ariel and Rhys used to be young an in love but after her father was blamed for murders...one being Rhys's sister they broke up. Ariel moved away to become a writer and Rhys worked for the police force. Ariel felt her father was innocent of the crimes and when a new murder happens it may be the chance to prove it. Really good mystery story line with a second chance at love undertones.

I was given a complimentary ‘Arc’ copy of this book and I am so pleased I was
I have read Trish Mccallan’s ‘Bound by’ and ‘Forged’ series which I absolutely loved so was intrigued to see where this would take me and it did not disappoint
If you are a fan of law enforcement and who done if novels this is defiantly one for you and if your not a fan have a read this one may just make you one
The book is based on a police detective and the notorious ‘X Factor’ killer and it isn’t the kind of singing contestant show that I initially thought it must be linked too
I’m not going to give away spoilers or what happens in this book but if you read it I will say you won’t be disappointed and will definitely be shocked by the outcome

Ariel & Rhys
For a small town, Dark Falls is a dangerous place to live. Sadly no one knows that better than Ariel and Rhys, who dated in high school there until her father was arrested and convicted of being a serial killer responsible for 9 murders including Rhys' twin sister. They split their relationship seemingly irrevocably broken until another victim is found. Ariel returns searching for the truth and finds so much more. Her sister who makes a limited appearance in this book, is getting her story in another series which I'm eager to read. Meanwhile Dark Falls continues to live up to it's name.

This book kept me guessing from the start. I did guess who the killer was but not just how convoluted his mind was. I would have liked more to be revealed connecting him to more past crimes, but I still enjoyed it.
What I liked most about this book as opposed to many of the other multi-author series that are out there is that Trish really made the connection to the two previous books in this series. They aren’t required reading to follow this one but you definitely feel the connection. Well done!

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
It was a great book!
Ariel + Rhys were childhood sweethearts.
Then her father was accused of being a serial killer.
Ariel was sure of his innocence
Rhys was sure of his guilt.
Sixteen years later, they are back at Dark Falls.
This time, will they give love a chance ?
Will they be able to move forward ?
Loved the characters + the storytelling!
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Keep guessing
This is a well written thriller. It is truly disappointing when you guess the killer in the very beginning and everything becomes predictable and bland. This book avoids that, thankfully.
I love the constant temptation between the two main characters. The characters were well developed throughout, even the back ground characters have depth. My interest is most definitely piqued with Ashley Hamilton. Will read more!

This was a really good read I loved how there were plenty of twists and you were kept on your toes wondering who exactly it was after Ariel and how they had potentially gotten things so wrong years ago. You could really feel the emotions both Ariel and Rhys were going through especially as they both have such strong beliefs on her the killer is. As things unfold there is plenty of shocks, nail biting moments and some great sexual tension that has you turning the page wanting to know how things will end!

I love second chances and reading about the one that got away. And the reason that Rhys and Ariel need a second chance is one of the most tragic I’ve come across. The story sucked me in and pulled me along for the ride. I didn’t want to put it down when distractions like my day job interrupted me. I can’t say that the true villain in this story was a big surprise to me, but I’m going to blame that on my own overly suspicious nature. I enjoyed this and look forward to reading the next in the series.
