Olle Svensson came to Canada to play hockey, but now he’s wondering if twenty-five is too late to start university back home in Sweden. Things started out well, but then he and some teammates catch his friend, Jamie Gallagher, with a guy in a men’s room stall at a random bar. Olle knows he should have stood by Jamie, in the bar and the locker room, but he’d been caught off-guard. He’d thought...well, it doesn’t matter anymore what he was thinking. Jamie is in hell. He’d been sure none of his teammates went to that bar, so he could safely blow off a little steam. Now he’s been outed against his will and doesn’t have a single ally on the team. He’s giving serious thought to giving up on hockey until Rupert Smythe-Morrison and the Moncton Ice Cats come to the rescue. Jamie never thought he’d be so happy to be traded. The only down side is that Olle is coming with him.
Samantha Wayland has three great loves in life; her family, writing books, and hockey. She is often found apologizing to the first for how much time and attention is taken up by the latter two, but they forgive her because they are awesome and she clearly doesn’t deserve them.
Sam lives with her family -- of both the two and four-legged variety -- outside of Boston. She is a wicked passionate New Englander (born and raised) who has been known to wax rhapsodic about the Maine Coast, the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont, and the sensible way in which her local brethren don’t see a need for directional signals (blinkahs!).
Her favorite things include mango martinis, tiny Chihuahuas with big attitude problems, and the Oxford comma.
I know I don't give out a lot of top scores but when something simply makes me happy, then I’m going to just call it like it is.
You know when you’ve read a series and you get little glimpses and snippets of characters here and there in various subsequent books and it’s just so much fun revisiting everyone?? That was this right here.
Man, I love this hockey universe that Wayland has created, and I loved seeing Rupert & Callum, Mike & Alexi, Chris & Tim. They’ve created a family on and off the ice, and while they live to give each other so much gleeful grief, they do it with love and support.
Add to it a seriously shy sweet gentle giant, newly aware of his MM inclinations with a healthy dose of longing, doubt, and insecurity, all with a nice slow burn that explodes with fantastic results. Unf.
I had a grin on my face the entire time I read this.
My only complaint is not a new one - this was way too short and sadly, that Wayland hasn’t written more.
I really liked Jamie and Olle's story, especially when the UST was still in full effect.
However, I'm not entirely sure if maximum enjoyment was possible without knowing *who* Rupert, Callum, Chris, Tim, Oliver, Christian, et al were and *what* were their stories.
Instead, the story was RIFE with these side-characters, who I liked, but wished that I knew exactly what I was missing out on.
In spite of that, Jamie and Oliver were both great MC's, providing some sexy times and solid feels, so I'd rate this novella at around 4 stars.

Traded Out was a sweet and sexy M/M sports novella, filled with hot hockey loving dudes following their hearts both on the ice and in love.
Featuring first-time couple Jamie and Olle, this story follows them as they are traded, together, to the Ice Cats ice hockey team, where they are quickly welcomed and immersed in an unexpected environment of love and support, making new friends and finding a home on and off the ice that they’ve both desperately been wanting.
Although they’d already been teammates previously, making a big team change and moving across country leads Jamie and Olle to discover that their long-term feelings for one another are more than reciprocated, with the two deciding to date on the down-low so they can get to know one another better.... much better.
For those interested in such, Olle is the epitome of a gentle giant. He’s big and impressive, but sweet and shy, longing to care and love on Jamie in ways he’s never experienced before. His character was certainly a treat and I adored watching how he doted on Jamie, playing the fierce protector on the ice and the tender and caring boyfriend off it. Together these two made quite the lovely (and definitely sexy) pair.
Although technically a standalone, this story is set in Wayland’s Ice Cat universe, made up of many other stories and couples, including Mike and Alexei from the Crashing series, as well as Rupert and Callum from Home & Away, and Tim and Chris from the short story Take a Shot. All of these characters make solid appearances here and play a part in Jamie and Olle’s love story, so although it could be read as a standalone, I would highly recommend some of the other stories first, not just for character history and context, but because they’re all damn good stories in their own right!
Honestly, I think I am yet to read a story set in this universe that I haven’t enjoyed the hell out of, and I have my fingers and toes crossed that Wayland just keeps such stories coming, indefinitely, because I for one will always be interested in picking up a new Ice Cats themed M/M romance.
This was cute and sweet and fluffy, despite the angsty set-up. We get a little glimpse of several favorite characters from other stories, and a bittersweet reminder of what life ought to be like, if acceptance for all was the rule in pro sports, rather than the exception. This could be read as a stand-alone intro to this hockey world, I think, but part of the fun for me was the cameos.
You gotta love a gentle, blushing giant. :) I really liked this, but it would've helped a lot if I remembered what happened in Home and Away. There are also other characters from the author's other books. They're like a big family. So I suggest reading Home and Away first. It was written in a 'storytelling' kind of way. But I still enjoyed it, even though there wasn't much dialogue.
I wanted more hockey, less navel-gazing. And less family time -- way, way, way less family time.
To be fair, it's not entirely the book's fault. What I'm sure looks to others like a sweet, fluffy, Big Happy Family, we're-all-in-this-together, wouldn't-you-like-to-be-one-of-us lovefest is actually triggering some nasty childhood stuff for me, and I want to get as far away from it as possible. So, DNF @ 25%, and almost certainly YMMV.
I think this one was just a little too sappy sweet. I really couldn’t get into the characters enough and the discussion of the logistics between the short guy and the humongous guy kinda took me out of the big sex scene. It was still fun seeing all the guys from the previous books and it’s also making me wonder if there will be any more to come. Book 2 of the Hat Trick series was among the very first MM books I ever read, so I’ll always have a soft spot for anything about the Ice Cats.
This was funny and sweet, and I loved the touch of slow burn as Olle and Jamie took their time with one another before they ignited and burned up the sheets. Dual third person POV, sports romance between teammates, with great characters, humor, heat, and a happy ending.
I somehow missed reading this in my Ice Cats series reading. Loved this, I love this entire family of hockey players and their partners and their friends.
3.5 Stars It took me a minute to remember who everyone was, but I definitely remembered Mike and Alexei first...then it all came back. I really enjoyed rediscovering this group of hockey players, it’s so fun getting reacquainted. I love “firsts” so color me happy getting some of that here, but ultimately, I challenge anyone not to swoon over Olle, he is fantastic.
4.5 Super sweet and super short story that’s perfects for a short flight.
I loved Olle and that was expected seeing how I have a thing for Vikings and just Blond dudes with long hair and blue eyes in general (see: Chris Hemsworth and just THOR) ITS MY KINK WHEN MY MEN PICK EACH OTHER UP OKAY. IN MORE WAYS THATN ONE BUT MAINLY WHEN THEY WRAP THEIR LEGS AROUND THE OTHER’s WAIST!!!! AND WHEN THEY MANHANDLE EACH OTHER FUC YE.
And then we had the whole Ice Cats fam. Omg yeas I loved seeing my babies again. Christian was as adorable as ever and Mike and Alexei are still the sweethearts I can’t get enough of. Rupert and Callum being Dad and Dad was perfect and just what we needed. Honestly, at this point even I have hero worship for Rupert. sigh...
This was good. Probably would have been better if I'd known the backstory of the secondary couples. But...I'm intrigued enough to want to check the rest of them out. The best thing about freebies is...when they lead you to a trail of good books. I foresee more hockey guys in my future...
I found it tough to rate this book. See I read it as part of a challenge as one of « my favorite trope ». The trope being Sports Romance. But there was only one game really mentioned in the whole book ... and it was very short.
The MCs were both attaching, and the story arc was great, keeping in mind that it's a novella.
And the secondary characters all sounded great, with emphasis on all because there were so many of them that were being referred to as if we should already have heard about them, to the point that I stopped reading to check whether this novella was part of a series. Frankly I was a expecting to find existing books about Callum and Rupert, Chris and Tim and Alexeï and Mick. So many characters for a novella, this was confusing indeed.
So, this is totally part of a series, even though it's not labeled a series. It's all one shared universe. Because of that I was a little lost, not much but there's a lot of characters referenced that it's assumed you know the story 6 characters, 3 couples (plus kids for one of them) aside from the couple this book is about. JUST LABEL YOUR SERIES. Aside from that, I really liked this. Olle is adorable and Jamie is oblivious (not for long) and it's great. They're really sweet together. I really liked the humor and fun teasing that's all of the place here. It didn't feel nosy or invasive like can happen sometimes. It was all light and fluffy. This entire book is light and fluffy (the beginning is a teeny bit angst but not much at all).
Reread 2023 Olle is my favourite of this book I felt for him with what happened in the club, it broke my heart for him

I think Olle is now up there with Alexi as my favourite character of the series. I’ve enjoyed seeing the family Rupert and Callum are making along the way. I think Olle’s reasoning behind what happened at their previous club as well done. I can’t remember it happening before in any of the books I’ve read. Jamie was ok too. I felt for him at the start but I felt like I connected more with Olle I’ll keep an eye out for more books from these guys
This one featured several of the couples from Sam's previous stories - Rupert and Callum from Home and Away, Alexei and Mike from Crashing the Net and Tim and Chris from Take a Shot, and a brand new couple Jamie and Olle. They were so cute together 😍, and I really think that Olle's sexual orientation could best be described as Jamie-sexual. Great catching up with the other guys too, together with the rest of the Moncton Ice Cats. Thanks to the author for the little freebie.
This was a quick read for fans of this authors books featuring the Moncton Ice Cats. If you haven't read any you may be a little overwhelmed by all the additional characters hanging around. But this was fairly sweet and low-angst, just not long enough to go very deep.
Traded Out was short. I enjoyed it. I liked the premise. I liked the characters. I'm a sucker for accents so I was all about the Swede! I just wasnt aware it's only 75 pages. I expected a full novel. I didn't realize it was a novella. The writing was good. The story cute. I'm just bummed that its over so quickly.
