The Enemy Within

Rate this book
Despite the success of the Normans in taking over the administration of England, the problems of Duke William of Normandy, now the king of the English, are not diminished. Constantly worried about possible incursions into his Norman territory, and the loss of influence in Maine, William’s focus is divided. His initial magnanimity towards the defeated English appears to be misplaced and as the rebellions multiply, so his attitude hardens.

Meanwhile, the various groups of insurgents continue their defiance, hoping for external help from neighbours such as the king of the Danes; it seems that finally, after generations of Danish invasions and English resistance to them, a common hatred of William has managed to inspire a truce between the erstwhile enemies.

The crown of England is still at the centre of conflict.

This historical novel is set between the years 1068-1074.

I was born and grew up in Kent, England, and began writing fiction when a child. I finished writing my first book at the age of 19 and have continued to write since then. My genre is historical fiction, with a preference for the medieval period. I have worked in the IT business for most of my career, in London and in the midlands. Now I have returned to my home county where I live with my family.
