Romance isn’t a genre I gravitate towards (okay, fine, I actively avoid it), particularly when it includes paranormal relationships. I’ve tried a few books, but in the end, the genre just isn’t for me. When my friend Zoe Ashwood told me she’d written a paranormal romance novel and asked if I wanted to read it, I was hesitant but knew that if anyone could write a paranormal romance I’d enjoy, she’d be the one.
My first exposure to Zoe’s writing was through her former book blog, where I fell in love with it immediately. I’m happy to say that my feelings are the same with Trust the Wolf. I don’t know what exactly it is about her writing, but she truly has a way with words. Her writing is somehow captivating, and it draws me in, making me feel a part of the story.
Because this is a romance novel, there is still too much sex for my taste. That’s on me, though, and I don’t think there is in any way an excessive amount of sex, considering the genre. It’s just not something I personally need in a book. (That’s not to say I’m completely immune. Even I can admit there were some pretty steamy scenes.) I also found it slightly jarring to see the characters from the prequel novella through the new characters’ eyes. This is a problem I often have when I grow attached to characters and then am forced to view them from another, maybe less favorable perspective.
Other than that, though, I have no complaints. In fact, I loved Trust the Wolf. The characters and the plot are strong and engaging enough that I was hooked right away and could hardly put the book down.
Both Emilia and Jason are great, and I enjoyed learning more about them as individuals as well as seeing their relationship progress. One reason I’m wary of paranormal romance is that I don’t like alpha males, unequal power dynamics, or submissive human women. There’s none of that in Trust the Wolf. Emilia is just as brave as Jason, and she holds her own in the relationship. Jason is strong and protective, yes, but he doesn’t use that to take advantage of Emilia. He’s actually quite sweet. Sex is empowering to Emilia, and she’s not afraid to take the reins. The sex scenes are also very explicit when it comes to consent, which I particularly value, as well as in regards to condom usage. I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable at the thought of a teenager reading this book and getting the wrong idea about sex or what makes for a healthy relationship.
Aside from the budding romance, there’s a lot going on in Trust the Wolf. There are family relationships and strong friendships, always something I appreciate. Neither one of the love interests is a lone wolf who only discovers they have a heart when they meet the love of their life. There is diversity, ranging from Emilia being of Native American descent, to her adoptive family being half Hispanic, to a wide range of ethnicities among the supporting characters, to several LGBT characters. The book is surprisingly funny and had me laughing out loud at multiple points. I also wasn’t expecting to enjoy the shifter aspect as much as I did. There aren’t a huge number of shifting scenes, but I like that shifting is about connecting to nature and enjoying the feeling of freedom that comes with being an animal.
One of my favorite parts is how Ashwood explores Emilia’s feelings of inertia and being stuck in a career that she doesn’t particularly care for. I also love that Emilia doesn’t drop everything and upend her life for Jason or for anyone else. She makes her own choices and stands up for herself. In that regard, the ending is perfect, and I’m excited to see where book two will take Emilia, Jason, and the other characters I’ve grown to love.
If you’re a romance reader, I definitely recommend Trust the Wolf. If you’re not, I still suggest giving this one a try. It might surprise you!

Trust the Wolf is a pacy tale of shifter discovery and romance, and it gripped me from the off. Emilia is our no-nonsense heroine, and human, or so she thinks. When she is accosted in a nightclub by a nasty man who calls her 'little cub', she's saved by a hero who turns her life upside down. In more ways than one.
It helps that Jason, our hero, is dreamy gorgeous, so when he shifts into a grey wolf in front of her and names her Ms Bear, it takes little persuading for her to want to know more.
You guys, I loved this story so much. Ashwood's tone is playful and light, the romance is sparkling and entirely angst-free, and the chemistry is off the scale.
The story is humorous, and the emotional tone breezy and satisfying. There's a scene where Emilia and Jason stay overnight in the same room on a road trip, and the sexual tension is through the roof. It's resolved in a super hot way - I'm blushing remembering it.
The supporting characters are fun, setting up nicely for their own stories in this linked series. I can't wait to read on.

Oh how I tried for this book. I really wanted to enjoy it. It just fell through.
We get Emilia who thought she was an average human but her world gets toppled when she finds out she is half shifter. Half bear shifter to be exact. If something lIke that happened to me, I would be so freaked out but no, not Emilia. She was more worried about jumping the wolf. She is introduced to this whole new world that she didn’t know existed and she is as cool as a cucumber. The same goes for her friends. Jason, the wolf, was so irritating. Don’t get me wrong, Emilia was irritating as well, but Jason just made me wanna hit him all the time. He kept on pushing her away and she kept in running back after saying she isn’t going to do that. I just couldn’t deal.
I was going to stop reading but I persevered and push through it thinking maybe it will get better and the characters will be less annoying but alas, no. They still were the same. This book was also very anticlimactic. The revelations and shocked factor were not that big or great.
I apologize if this review is a bit harsh but as much as I wish I could change my opinion, I can’t.

TRUST THE WOLF was way more action packed than I was expecting but I loved it! Jason and Emilia were a great couple and I loved seeing how Emilia handled her introduction to the world of shifters. She was tough, brave, and determined to live the life she wanted regardless of other influences. I hope to see more of her in the series as she develops her Council department to help other half-blood shifters find their place. I also really enjoyed Jason and how he couldn't resist Emilia no matter how hard he tried. He's always put duty first and lived his life separate from others but with Emilia he finds a greater purpose and a chance to finally relax and just be himself.
The political intrigue of the Shifter Assembly, the High Council, and the rogue shifters all made for a really interesting story and I can't wait to see what happens next, especially after the revelations in the last chapter of TRUST THE WOLF. There was also plenty of side characters that I loved and I'm hoping to see more of, especially Zach and Mat.

Trust The Wolf is the second book in the series. I just realized that there is another before this one (Bearly Married - Shifter Series .05). But you can read it as standalone. It's a paranormal romance, with a little action, good hot scenes, suspense, drama, secrets and a happy ever after. I like paranormal romance and the previously mentioned elements, definitely, are feature attraction for me.
The main characters are Emilia and Jason. Emilia comes from a family of adoptive parents. She only knows that her mother died at the time of his birth and has no further information about his lineage. His mother was human, his father was a bear shapeshifter. What makes Emilia a half-shifter. She does not know anything about the world of the shapeshifters, until she meets Jason.
Jason has some kind of security job. An attractive boy who acts as a hero, after having intercepted a boy who attacks Emilia. This event will be the beginning of an adventure for both, the beginning of an initial friendship with Jason that turned into something else. Well, the chemistry between them is instantaneous and sparkling.
Jason becomes someone to support Emilia. Helping her to discover who she really is, what her real roots are, sharing everything he can about the world of shapeshifters. The romance between them is low-angst. Emilia is a strong, daring character, who cares about others and wants to make a difference in her new world, when she discovers it.
The first chapter left me in expectation. It made me laugh. Enjoy it. However, at some point I felt somewhat bored. And it is that mid-book is when we have a bit of action again between shapeshifters. Jason's ambivalence, the moment he knew Emilia's true identity and with whom he was related, disgusted me. Although it did not take long for him to finally change his mind and decided definitely to continue with Emilia what he had started.
Emilia's situation can be intriguing and Jason's position as a mentor is an important factor in the development of the story. The way the author described the world of shapeshifters and how it works is interesting. As a debutant he has a good chance of increasing his readership. I hope that the next book keep my interest more than this one.

The quick and dirty: Girl is informed by a male wolf shifter that she's not entirely human. They form a friendship that quickly morphs into something romantic but when he realizes who she really is, he quickly distances himself (shifter politics and abandonment issues). When there's an attempt on her life though, he realizes he's willing to sacrifice everything to save her.
*MILD SPOILERS*
Jason saves Emilia from being assaulted at a club and realizes she has no idea that she's a shifter. A hybrid bear shifter. He's supposed to report her to SANA (the shifter authorities for whom he works) but finds it hard to do so because he's inexplicably drawn to her and wants more time to explore their mutual attraction. When he discovers her true heritage though, he has no choice but to deliver her to the council in order to ensure her safety. The council assigns Jason to protect Emilia but that just makes it harder for him to stay away from her, especially when Emilia doesn't understand shifter politics or why they can't be together. When there is an attempt on Emilia's life however, things take a turn and Jason finally realizes what really matters.
A great debut novel from Zoe Ashwood! I enjoyed the dynamic between Jason and Emilia and thought the ancillary characters, like Zach and Mat, added some interesting texture to the story. I appreciated that Emilia didn't blindly believe Jason when he told her she was a shifter and instead asked questions (though I wish she had asked even more - especially when she arrived in Canada). The twist with the councilmember was interesting, though it felt like an after thought. I'd love to see that type of suspense be a more core part of the storyline. Looking forward to Truth or Bear next month!

Loved it! I've volunteered to review this book for United Indie Book Blog. This is my first time reading one of Zoe Ashwood books. I will be going back and reading of her books. Zoe Ashwood's writing is so captivating, she had me hooked with the first page. I loved Emilia and Jason. They had so much chemistry between them. Jason is strong and protective. I love that Emilia doesn’t drop everything and upend her life for Jason or for anyone else. If you’re a romance reader, I definitely recommend Trust the Wolf. You will be love this book just like me. Keep up the great job! I can't wait to read more from you.

AH! It had to be strange and scary when Emilia found out she was half bear and human. Then to fall for a wolf. All kinds of things going on. Finding out about her biological family, politics (which she does not care for), the guy she fell for was told to get into her good graces. So much, will it get better, the felling of betrayal? I like this book and the way the author dealt with all going on. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.

Ok Wow really enjoyed this human & shifter lives. Keeping chaos in order for their safety shifters are fighting the same wars the humans do. By the way your a bear shifter, You now have new rules & laws, New changes need to be made, evildoers need to be dealt with. Emilia & Jason have so much to work through but love always wins. This is a good Read Good action and romance with a nice twist.

Great Captivating Story.
The story line is very captivating and kept me wanting to read more. The main characters are well thought out and easy to like. The book ends on a cliff-hanger making you really want to read the next book to see where the story goes.

I absolutely loved this book. It has the perfect mix of everything, that had me hooked from the beginning!
I love Zoes writing style and for a new author I feel she could compete with some of the best.
Now let’s go to the characters. I loved Emilia and Jason. They had so much chemistry that it was almost inevitable that they would end up together.
They go through a lot together, including Emilia’s life being complete tipped upside down and Jason admitting the sad reason why he choose what he does for a living to someone other then his cousin.
It’s an amazing book, and I highly recommend people reading it once its release on the 24th January.

You know when you read a book, and you're aware it's probably not going to be a blockbuster, or a movie, yet every page imprints a permanent, gentle, happy smile on your face? This is that book.

I never thought shapeshifter romance novels would be something I'd read, but alas!, Zoe Ashwood's writing is so captivating, starting from the first sentence, that one simply cannot close the book. The plot is engaging and unpredictable, with traces of the most thrilling crime and romantic TV series, and the characters are incredibly real and sexy, so much so that they get you emotionally involved and you forget that you are actually reading a novel.
The only think I didn't quite like is the use of swearwords and somewhat youth slang. But by the end of the book it blended in and the only thing remaining was expectation to read the next book of the series. Excellent and very intriguing.

Emilia’s life is not what she thought. After a night out with friends her world had completely changed
Trust the Wolf by Zoe Ashwood was such a fun read. It wasn’t heavy on drama or angst. Things seemed to wrap up quickly rather than drag out, which I appreciate. I felt the storyline was fun, engaging, and flowed nicely.
I’m a huge fan of urban fantasy and finding new authors is always exciting. I have to admit I haven’t read many books on shifters, but after reading this I’m finding myself wanting to dive more in this genre.

Trust the Wolf by Zoe Ashwood was such a fun read. It wasn’t heavy on drama or angst. Things seemed to wrap up quickly rather than drag out, which I appreciate. I felt the storyline was fun, engaging, and flowed nicely.
I’m a huge fan of urban fantasy and finding new authors is always exciting. I have to admit I haven’t read many books on shifters, but after reading this I’m finding myself wanting to dive more in this genre.
I will definitely be reading more from this author and I can’t wait for the next book

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "TRUST THE WOLF" OMG!!!!! This is my first read by Zoe Ashwood such a creative writer if you like a shifter romance stories this is one is a keeper. The chemistry between Emilia and Jason is off the charts sexy as sin they are truly well written characters as are all the secondary characters in this book. You get a glimpse into the shifter world and how it works it's full of intense drama, suspense, intrigue, mystery, betrayal, secrets, lies, passion, twist and turns that have you turning page after page to read this very interesting entertaining shifter romance I definitely recommend to read this first book in this fantastic new series so well worth the read.

Trust the Wolf (Shift, #1) is a perfect romance; it's filled with steamy moments and action-packed danger. The plotting was expertly paced and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. With alternating view points, the characters were hilarious and unique--each with their own distinct voice.
Big things are in store for this merry band of shifters, and I'm excited to see what Zoe Ashwood delivers next.

“Trust the Wolf” is Zoe Ashwood’s debut novel and the first full-length story in her Shift series. From the first chapters, Emilia’s and Jason’s story will grip your emotions and not let them go until the end. There is a prequel, “Bearly Married” which I would strongly suggest you pick up – and if possible, read before you immerse yourself in this world through “Trust the Wolf”. I was watching for the connection through the first chapters, and while the story was tantalizing I wasn’t seeing that connection until… “BOOM” right in my face, and it made absolutely perfect sense. Now it would be just as tantalizing without reading the prequel, but that moment just pulled it together for me and I was off on an amazing adventure. Do you have to read the prequel first? No, of course not… but I firmly believe it will enhance your reading enjoyment of this series, in my opinion, should you do so.
Emilia is thrust into a world she had no clue existed and fighting a strong attraction to the handsome official who tried to explain it to her. Jason’s job is to report and detain unregistered half-bloods, shifters who may not know what they are but still must abide by the rules of the Shifter Assembly. It’s obvious that Emilia is in danger from the shifter rogues, and also obvious that she is completely clueless about what she is, or that shifters even exist in her view of the world. That quickly changes when Jason, against all logic, simply shows her what the truth looks like. And even more illogical is his reluctance to report her, deciding instead to slowly ease her into this new world on his own. The attraction is strong… but Emilia is not what either she or Jason believes her to be, and that knowledge is going to head them both straight into danger, intrigue, politics, abduction attempts, finding her true family… and maybe even acknowledging her mate.
I was easily drawn back into this world with a story that touched my emotions, kept my attention and left me wanting to know more… and that’s what a good story should do. If you like discovering new authors or getting in on the beginning of a fascinating series, then I’d highly recommend that you check out “Trust the Wolf” for yourself and discover both a new series and a new author to follow. I completely enjoyed myself in this world and I’m looking forward to the next story, “Truth or Bear”, which is due out in February 2019.

I don't respond to many review requests since I have many favorite authors and series. I get many emails on a daily basis from publishers about books available for review. I'm grateful to have that "problem" and it's nearly impossible to respond to them all. I told this author I would read the prequel novella and reply in 2 days. I found the prequel, Bearly Married quite enjoyable, so I agreed to review Trust the Wolf.
This first book in the Shift series , is set at least 20 years after the prequel. Shifters are not "out" and there is a governing council. The council is made up of the eldest in family clans, seemingly more of a inherited rule than a democracy. Often in paranormal romance, I get the feeling of historical times with patriarchal rules and limited roles for women. In this case, the council position goes to male or female, so it is only a bit of that feeling.
Jason works for the council in enforcing the rules. He makes sure shifters are registered and behaving. He discovers Emilia who is not registered, and does not even know she is a shifter. They are attracted to one another, which is against the rules she doesn't even know. As usual for me, the integrity and compassion of the main characters makes them likeable. It is easy to want the best for them.
Their romance, Emilia's modern beliefs, and shifter world politics make for a great read. I always enjoy when there is more to the story besides the romance. This series, so far is in Kindle Unlimited. The next book, Truth or Bear, is planned for February 2019. I look forward to it since it picks up with the political issues we understand by the end of Trust the Wolf.

Emilia is out with friends at a club where she;s stood up by the blind date her friend had fixed up for her. She went to the ladies room but was accosted by a shifty smelly guy. She manages to get away but when she comes out of the bathroom he tackles her. Then she;s saved by a gorgeous man, Jason, who asks her for her id. Then asks her for another id which she;s never heard of before. That;s when he informs her that she;s half shifter. When she doesn;t believe him he shifts into his wolf. Now it;s up to Jason to introduce her to the world of shifters. The problem is that he feels drawn to her. His job is to keep tabs on shifters and make sure those not registered are brought in but something stops him with Emilia. A few days later he takes her to a shifter night club and they wind up at his apartment. There he discovers a birthmark that signals she is of one of the oldest bear clans in North America. That puts a stop to everything and puts a wedge between them. The next day after he asks for an emergency meeting he reveals the truth and he;s asked to drive her to her real family;s home in Quebec. Now he has a job to do after he has sort of realized what she is to him and life for both get totally out of control
Fantastic story that will keep you enthralled throughout.

This paranormal romance had a bit of everything I like: humour, a moderate amount of steam, a little suspense and action. The characters were well developed and it was nice seeing Amelia come out of her shell as she starts to learn and explore the other unknown half of herself. The side characters had a nice feel to them, a little development so they aren't flat, but not so much that it distracts from the main story line. The romance even developed at decent pace (unlike the instalove that tends to be the norm in shifter romance). Overall, a very enjoyable shifter romance with more to come in the series. *I received an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Great debut book and what a fantastic start to this series. Emilia has been happily raised her whole life as a human, but she is not as human as she seems. Once she is rescued by Jason in a club her whole world is turned upside down and is introduced to the world of shifters. It seems, according to Jason, that she is a half-blood bear shifter and once Jason proves to her that he is not crazy she begins to slowly believe him. There is so much protocol in the shifter world and by Jason not reporting her he is breaking the law he believes in that keeps the peace among the shifter species. Emilia finds her biological family, is falling in love with a wolf and is coming to realize that she absolutely hates shifter politics. Will Emilia adjust to life as a bear shifter? I can’t wait for this series to continue!! I highly recommend this book!

Primer libro de la saga principal Shift. Como su precuela, no ha estado mal. Ha sido entretenido, pero basta. Está mejor escrita que la de los orcos y tiene más consistencia en cuanto al argumento. Igualmente, recomendada.
