"Running from the Wolf" is the fifth installment in the 'Middleton Prep' series. It is a clean, contemporary romance with a hint of suspense. Each story is loosely based on a classic fairy tale. The rest of the series is as follows:
Prequel: 'A Home for the Ugly Duckling' (a FREE gift when you sign up for my newsletter) Book #1: The Librarian and Her Beast (Piper and Nash) Book #2: 'Ms. Cinder's Prince' (Charlotte and Christian) Book #3: 'Waking Ms. Briar' (Rory and Stephen) Book #4: 'A Date for the Goose Girl' (Lucy and Mateo)
I think this is probably her best work to date. I really liked this story. Some good suspense and some pretty hot kissing (this book is a clean read - no foul language, no sex). Predictable plot but good. Well worth picking up for the price. I recommend it. Nicely done.
I have read a couple other books by this same author (no I haven't read the series in order, yet it hasn't distracted from the books I have read), and I must say I enjoyed the scenes involving showing affection better in her other books. This one was verging on too steamy for me. I am so grateful that Grams walked in the room! I felt that although the "love at first sight" storyline has been used many times before, this author did a fantastic job of developing the characters' feelings and personalities so it seemed very believable. I hope there is another in the series, and yes, perhaps a little less making out in the next ones. On a steaminess level I would rate this a mild PG-13. **Spoiler I wasn't comfortable reading about her siting on the counter with her legs around him. That almost made me stop reading, but I gave this author the benefit of the doubt because none of her pervious works were so passionate. Luckily things didn't get that "hot" again.
Another fantastic story by Laura Ann!! I really enjoyed going on Ruby's journey. This is the fifth book in the Middleton Prep series, and I'm enjoying every single one! Unlike the stories before, this story had a bit more suspense in it. Usually I don't enjoy reading suspense, but Running from the Wolf had just the right amounts of suspense and romance. I loved Derrick! He is so swoon-worthy and the way he treated and protected Ruby had me sighing in wistfulness. They are a great couple together, and I really enjoyed seeing their interactions with each other. The ending was satisfying and of course a HEA. Overall, I would highly recommend it! 6 out of 5 stars!! P.S. I have to admit that this is my favourite book in the series so far!
My favourite of the Middleton Prep stories so far.
The suspenseful turn on the story worked really well, especially as initially I thought There were some intense moments, and annoying ones given the none response to what was happening Ruby...especially given the recent push back on harassers.
Some phrases and tropes were a bit -_- for me, but on the plus side Flora and Funa didn't make much of an appearance.
Anyone who enjoys memories of reading the little red riding hood story will enjoy this modern day retelling. I was I retested to see just how close to the fairytale story the author would make this & I have to say I thought she did a great job! I really enjoyed this book right from the very beginning. The Hero is swoon worthy & protective - the real alpha male but with a vulnerable/sensitive side & the heroine is sassy & full of spunk but is also caring & willing to put others before herself. What’s not to love? There was a brief mention of some other characters, which I assume with be the retellings of Snow White’s story & also Rapunzel’s... already eager to read!
So I thought there were some cute, funny and intense parts of this book and over all it was pretty good. The overall theme of these stories seems to be insta-love and fast-paced relationships which I don't necessarily love. I liked the main characters as well as the grandma. The villain seemed pretty believable. A bit cheesy in places and once again we had electricity at first, second, third etc touch. Overall it was a clean fun quick read.
I had such high hopes for the first half of this story - intrepid heroine, the perfect hero (really, a Marine who loves kids and was raised right by his mama!). I was prepared to give it at least four stars, but Ruby earned herself a demotion when she was so ridiculous as to go running miles from her house when she knows there’s a stalker with his sights on her.

Online dating? Not for everyone as Ruby finds out. This story has a wolf and a great guy that defends Ruby. It is a lovely story and I truly enjoyed it. I hope you do, too! (I received an advance review copy from this author. The opinions here are my own.)
Live the cute quick fall in love romance. Especially when you add a little fairy tale into the mix. Ruby running from the wolf and straight into Derrick was perfect.
