A succinct story of PI Lauren Pauling's search for Reacher, who as per usual never actually shows his face/presence. This annoying trait also appears in Diane Capri's so-called Reacher books, which at least are linked to a particular Lee Child/Reacher book. This time Pauling and usual partner Michael Tallon are on the hunt for the missing Reacher, who's supposedly sent Pauling a file relating to one of his past investigations that involved a brutal rape and murder in Turkey. However the return address - a military hospital - gives the pair little or no hope and, as usual, there's no real evidence that Reacher was ever there...or was he? I like the interaction and teamwork between the two investigators, but the story would have been just as good if they'd been the only main characters as Dan Ames' excellent imagination and literary talent needs no boost from a conspicuously absent Jack Reacher, just to cash in unnecessarily on his name to sell copies. Why not get your own copy and judge for yourself?
Fabulous. Jack Reacher is one of the most superb characters. He is full of suspense and intrigue. Can’t get enough and hope there will be another one soon.
A MAN BEYOND THE LAW. Dan Ames Jessica Halbert meeting someone at a bar a favorite of the army soldiers. Hospital an unknown man was given the name Reacher. Then a van kidnapped him, as though just transferring and no one was the wiser. Michael Tallon gets a picture on his computer of Jessica. Lauren Pauling a P I received a classified document of Jessica now in her hands, which is illegal, and hopefully it is a copy. Was this a case of Reacher, Return address was of a military hospital.Going to the hospital, wasn’t really a dead end, now someone is following her. As readers we have the pieces , the experts are Tallon and Pauling, as they figured out this case. Curiosity, stubborn, they want answers, someone spent a lot of time and effort to send them. The characters we know, the story is one of his best, from begining to the end.
"One victim for revege. One victim for pleasure." This, the eighth, and arguably the best, of Dan Ames' Reacher series is a quick to read and stand alone thri!ler, once again featuring Lauren Pauling (ex FBI, now running her own successful New York P.I. agency) and .Michael Fallon (sometimes operative on covert government missions). They are brought back together in pursuit of a vicious killer and rapist. Once again, the writing is straightforward, action taking precedence over depth of character but it is a good yarn, nevertheless.
Pauling ex-FBI agent who set up her own private eye business. This is a moving adventure of how humans can hide their real persona from the world and their employees. All I can say is there's suspense, intrigue and how psychopathic deviants who are really serial killers in disguise working for the United States Armed forces and spook agents working and hiding their schizophrenic nature. Pauling and Tallon are a good team, that I'm sure we will read again as they join forces to fight and bring to justice what is threatening humanity..
Read time 3 hrs 10m Tallon and Pauling both receive information about a secret Army mission in Turkey involving the rape and brutal murder of a female soldier, a case now filed away as a cold unsolved case seemingly with ties to both Jack Reacher and Tallon. Someone doesn’t want the case looked into and is busy taking VC are of loose ends. The Army creates killers and sometimes those soldiers enjoy killing just a little too much and don’t know when to stop.
Lauren Pauling and Michael Tallon get drawn into investigating the rape, murder, and mutilation of a female soldier that took place in Turkey. As usual, many questions to be answered. Who sent the file on this case to Pauling - surely it wasn't Reacher, even though his name is noted in the file? And who is pulling Talon's strings? Who is killer and what is his motive? Loved this story!
I have read all of the Reacher series and have loved them all but this one has got to be the best. Lauren Pauling and Michael Tallon have to solve another very fast paced murder mystery. This book is a real wow! It’s a fast read because you cannot put it down. I highly recommend this book.
Has Reacher been abducted and murdered? A psychopathic ex special forces killer on the loose, with a highly revered retired military officer? Non stop action! A fast paced action thriller!! Twists and turns to the end. Enjoyed immensely!
Once again Pauling and Tallon team up to solve a mysterious series of events that makes a real page turner. I highly recommend this series and this book.
I don’t know, but this story didn’t sit right with me. It was a little crazy, and I hate it when innocents get killed off, even if it is only a novel. The. Ames barely slows Waters down after taking two bullets?..? 4
I received an eArc for this book. A fast paced thriller you just can't put down. Full of interesting twists and turns that keep the reader guessing till the end and wishing for more.
Lauren Pauling and Michael Tallon are drawn into an investigation of the brutal rape and murder of a U.S. female soldier, while serving in Turkey, who had a brief fling with Tallon. The Army investigator, who is as large as Jack Reacher, sends a copy of his file to Pauling before he is grabbed from a hospital, and disappeared. When other members of Tallon's team die, the dynamic duo start tracking a twisted, psychopathic serial killer, who has a secret cover. Not for the faint hearted.
I was not enthralled with this tale. Reacher spent more time on the advertising than in the story, and though the other characters were interesting, they did not have his zing. Again, not a bad tale, just not up to Reacher. REVIEWED on July 26, 2025, at Goodreads.
Fast moving plots, always different. Each grabs you from the first word and never, let’s go. Lots of action, all planned to bring the cost story, ever -again.
