"Book 2 of the Ship Wrecked saga . . . this series is so much damn fun! " Brandon Sweeny, Ventura, CA
It was a hard sell, but Cameron had convinced Heather to return to the exoplanet Sang-Morang—where he had hoped they could experience the wonder of this majestic corner of the universe, together. The spacecraft Primion was flight-ready and the immense creature—the Minal Loth—seemed content to follow him wherever he went. And he still had the old Ford pickup truck, gassed up, and ready to explore more of that alien landscape.
But Cameron’s well-intentioned plan turns out to be amongst his very worst. No sooner has the Primion set down on Sang-Morang, than they are ruthlessly attacked. Heather is abducted. The Loth is gone. The Primion destroyed. Cameron, once again, is alone and shipwrecked.
While Cameron is somewhat accustomed to surviving alone—being self-reliant—Heather has little concept of such things. Forcibly abducted up into space and a prisoner of ill-intentioned beings, she will have to dig deep beyond her limited life experience as a mere hostess at the Drake Café back in Larksburg Stand to confront both her inner and outer demons.
Light years apart, it quickly becomes apparent to them both that there is little hope they will ever see each other again. Soon, they will each be forced to endure their own version of hell—and do so alone.
(I felt my first review was a little too harsh. This is the replacement.)
As you can tell by the grade, I was very disappointed by this novel. The first third restarted everything from the first novel and ended tragically. It was very well written and I enjoyed it, but it mostly lacked originality.
The new story line started at about 40% but used two of the most overrated and overused themes in fiction, a Roman gladiatorial situation and a damsel in distress (in every way). A lot of that was ugly and I started speed reading a little. Sadly, it never got better.
The paragraphs got up to a "page" in length, and facts and feelings presented earlier were repeated. I ended up speed reading even more and all the way to the end. There were times when I had a hard time picking it up so I could finish it. The story did end satisfactorily although it is a bit too serialized.
I don't like writing negative reviews, but I don't recommend this book. Sorry.
A really good sequel with enough action, aliens and twists and turns to keep the entertainment and laughter going strong. The book started a bit slow, but quickly became hard to put down. Definitely worth reading, just make sure you read book one first. Looking forward to the third book and the fight to save Earth.
Not quite as good as the 1st book, but still a 5-star story. Cameron now has Heather with him and while she is trying to adjust to life on a galactic scale with AI, androids, and the Loth, Cameron is worried she will be unable to survive the experience. A ship wreck and kidnapping leaves Heather and the Loth in the clutches of the owner of the zoo planet and Cameron once again shipwrecked. The story goes between both their experiences with Heather discovering she is more self-sufficient than she ever imagined and Cameron discovering new aliens, robots, and old acquaintances, until their paths again connect.
An interesting yarn with emphasis on character development for aliens, humans, and artificial life forms. Next stop, Earth. Available on KU.
Great adventure, glad some folks were digested, so to speak...lol Joe, what a character and hope he is in the crew for the next adventure on Earth. The Loth is up to be the big boss and I definitely want to see the group hug with his litter mates on Earth. Thanks for the GoodRead.
Mark Wayne McGinnis is an excellent storyteller. He offers great character development and marvelous settings! Every time I pick up one of his books, it’s hard to put it down. Treat yourself to a great escape by reading any of his books.
Timelines and side stories become more and more absurd and superficial. I prefer a more intricate and smarter tale. This one leaves much to be desired.
This book was ok, but just too simplistic for serious sf readers. The plot was ok to begin with, but the characters were without depth and the manner in which they got out of their scrapes was just too simple and convenient. I read both books in the hope that the second would be better, but was disappointed with it as well. I like books with clever twists and turns, but they have to be well thought out and believable, not ridiculous. I guess if you were to maybe 12 or13, these would be entertaining, but not if you've been reading this genre for decades. Maybe you'll find them to be ok, but for me, I won't be looking for any sequels. Doug.
Ship Wrecked II picked up right where Ship Wrecked left off. It was a great, fast, fun read. You read Mark's books for the story, the adventures, the characters and the action. Great fun science fiction. I love Mark's ideas and situations. There is a great flow and narrative to what he writes. This will talk to the kid in you and warm up that sense of adventure. Enjoy!
These books have a good story line but are pretty poorly written. Major issues suddenly just conveniently resolved and the oops my word count is high enough lets just make everything good and end this book moments are painful. Entertaining to a degree but nothing that draws me in.
I've been reading Mark since the first scrapyard book and he doesn't disappoint. Good solid Sci-fi would have given it 5 stars but didn't like splitting the story between two character's. But he beought it home and I'll read the next one
Can't wait for the next book in the series. Non-stop excitement in this one cover to cover. When I was a teen I used to dream of going off world for adventure. You spin a good story Mr. McGinnis.
When I read the first book in this series I couldn’t wait till evening when I normally read. I was so glad to stumble on the second when it came out, waiting for the third!
Like the header suggests, this book was kinda silly. It was also entertaining. I guess you could say it was entertainingly silly. The story line was good, the characters fleshed out nicely. I plan on reading book 3 whenever it comes out. Good job, Mark
MGM. has penned a SYFY novel about the second shipwreck if the spacecraft trying to transport the giant Goth to a safe planet. They run into numerous problems with two alien races and the military forces of Earth. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
A great tale of self-discovery. The characters are becoming their own persons. I can see the next step them understanding and growing into their own on Earth.
Loved the story line and characters worlds were great . Cam was believable and always truth to the character. AI’s were well thought out. Read it second after book 1.
A very fun read with multiple plot twists. A changing number of villains both alive and mechanical. Still waiting for a better idea about what exactly Art is.
What about Joe? But another well written McGinnis book.
Great read Marc, but you forgot about what happened to Joe when the Loth met up with Cameron and Heather as well as explaining her Dad's reaction to all she had been through.
Engaging, believable, many twists and interesting characters. Looking forward to reading the next sequel. Liked the descriptions of the different worlds in the cosmos.
The storyline was constantly changing, and frequent new characters were hard to follow sometimes. But it worked out in the end. An entertaining space opera
Loved the different perspectives and how Heather was forced into blossoming. The Loth is also so important to the development of the adventure. Who knows how you will respond when forced to survive.
