Eve James lost her parents in a car accident when she was ten years old. She spent her childhood in foster care, thinking that she had no other family, but just when she was starting to get her life on track, an aunt she never even knew existed has included Eve in her will. Eve travels to New York to meet her aunt's lawyer, but she's inherited more than a few dollars. Eve is now the owner of her aunt's lingerie company.
Taylor Barnes has spent years working alongside Tina Dixon to build Lacey into the company it is today. As CEO, Taylor expects to take over the company after Tina's death, but things don't always go as planned.
Will Eve and Taylor be able to work together, ignoring the attraction and the chemistry between them?
I didn't realize going in what this was and by the time I did, I was intrigued enough to continue, anyway. And by what it was, I mean erotica (as opposed to romance). The plot and characters are just solid enough to carry enough story to sorta kinda work. It's like if someone created an outline of a really good romance and then hurried through the character building and plot in order to get to the sex scenes. So relationship issues get worked out, and about how you'd expect, only they do so in a fraction of the time and emotional cost you'd expect.
Anyway, I'm going to give this three stars because I liked the story evoked by this outline and I was able to skim the sex scenes pretty painlessly.
A note about Steamy: There are four or five sex scenes that are pretty long. Which doesn't seem like much until you notice that it's only 116 pages long. So yeah, way outside my steam tolerance and I'd have put it down if I didn't kind of like the story bits we get.
Once again you have astounded me with the smooth story that was written. Loved the age difference was never an issue between the characters in this story.
YES! +F/F! +Age gap! Taylor is 14 years older than Eve. +A lingerie business! Although we don't get to "see" any of the designs. Oh well. +Eve and Taylor talk about problems like adults! No needless drama because of nonsense.
It is short, so it was fast read. It is good, so it will be well worth it. I just wish there was more depth into characters, what they decided to do? Work, future.....I had a little glimpse into relationship, but that was about it.
This is the first book I’ve read by the author and I thought she did a great job. I liked the pace of the story, it didn’t seem to drawn out or too fast. The connection between Eve and Taylor was sweet while also seeing their spicy side. This was a good balance between sweet and spicy and it also pulled at the strings a little bit. I would definitely read another book.
I loved Endless love - but this is more of a short story - and didn't crack open the mustard, sorry. (Maybe a little harsh but followed on reading from The Chicago Series (Nicole Pyland) the comparisons are difficult.)
Eve is thrust into a live-changing situation when an aunt who she's never met leaves her an apartment in NYC, a large sum of money, and ownership of her aunt's lingerie company. As she prepares to figure out how to deal with this, she meets Taylor, the company's CEO who is angry that she wasn't tapped as the owner instead of a young girl who knows nothing about the business.
In this coming together, the two must navigate their business relationship, their age difference and the fact that Taylor has not been interested in relationships for some time.
There are some interesting plot points in this novel, including the final crisis point that I didn't expect, but that makes total sense given the unusual set-up for Eve. There's a lot of sex scenes here, probably more than were needed, but I guess that's the appeal for some people.
Another book that's 3.5 stars that I'm rounding down to three (sigh).
I try not to let covers define a bookmark for me, but yup, this one had a big warning that I would be in for a tacky, poorly written and developed, cheesy story that would be the opposite of "show, don't tell". It's one of those books you're obligated to believe in what's happening by what you're being told. There's no organic plot development, with actions and feelings that convey the emotions, beyond the fast paced, out of the blue actions and words these characters deliver. I really wanted to like this since the plot was fairly intriguing, but it just fell short for me.
Shows potential but I felt it could have had a bit more depth. A bit more of the characters getting to know each other, development of the interesting premise and to be honest a bit less of the physical getting to know each other. I’m not a prude and if the above development happened extending the book then the sex scenes could stay, but if to protect the length it’s either or, then for me, more development.
A sweet HEA with a very basic plot. More complex secondary characters along with a little industry specific detail on Eve's difficulties running the company might help bring the main characters to life.
Its a very cute, entertaining book but everything seems to happen in like warp speed... Would've loved if the author developed & expounded on the characters & the narrative more. But it was still an enjoyable read.
Nice short story about a company inheritance and its legacy (like the title states). Unfortunately about half way through I got a little bored with the relationship between the characters.
