"More," I demanded. I ground harder into the blonde, desperate for her to continue. "Please."
"Shut up and let me," Jade bit back.
"Make me."

━━━━━━━━━━━ ♡ ━━━━━━━━━━━

In short, this was ultimately disappointing because there was somehow less smut than in the first book? Also, there was this extremely weird thing where Jade and Zafira would entertain themselves by torturing and hurting and hunting their maids and it was really disturbing. Just so bizarre, and jarring, as it wasn't relevant at all to the rest of the original story/plot. The only other redeeming factor (I have to defend my two star rating) was the humour that kind of got to me.

I stabbed the tiny peach on my plate and brutally cut it in pieces. If I used my imagination, I could pretend it was Oumar's tiny brain I was mutilating. Actually, that was not a bad idea. When I had him murdered, I'd donate his brains to science so they could study how such an incompetent man hadn't already killed himself by accident. It would be his first and only contribution to this kingdom.

I haven't read many books with entertaining, and dare I say humourous, inner monologue. But I actually found these girls' thoughts really funny. When they weren't torturing people of lower class of course 🥴. More focus on the romance, and more sex scenes (this is a dark romance, no need for fade-to-black!!), and less servant torturing would have really elevated this book, because this series does have potential: who doesn't love slightly psychotic sapphics who hate each other but can't help but want to fuck the other.

“I want to kill you. I don’t want to kill you. I want to kill you. I don’t want to kill you.”
And so the book begins

“I don’t think I know what jealous means.” I shrugged as I lit another cigarette.
The blonde’s breath fanned across my ear. “Angry that someone covets what you’re coveting.”
I laughed. “You think I covet you?”
“I think you do,” Jade whispered. Her teeth grazed my earlobe and an involuntary moan fell from my lips. She chuckled at my response, her laugh infuriatingly sensual.
I bit back the flutter in my stomach and ignored the shiver running down my spine. “You’re delusional if you believe I’m capable of that.”
“Maybe.” Her tongue flicked against my lobe. “I’ve been called worse.”
They’re just so, so superior I’m

“What an annoying git. I couldn’t wait to be an only child again. I eyed my parents. Or better yet. An orphan.”
SHES SÓ FUCKING FUNNY

“How many more poisonous flowers are in this Maze?” The blonde pulled her own scarf over her head and hid in the shade of the hedges.
I smiled, pleased to have regained the upper hand again. “Around three hundred.”
“Right… And how big is this Maze again?”
“If you get lost, nobody will hear you scream,” I supplied sweetly. I wrapped my arm around hers and intertwined our hands. “You’re not worried, are you?”
Jade took a moment to look at our clasped hands, a strange look flitting through her eyes.
I suddenly feared she was going to pull away, but instead, she tightened her grip. The same strange feeling curled through my stomach as I pulled her deeper into the Maze. Whatever Oumar was trying to do, he just got me more time with Jade. And that was exactly what I wanted.
She stared up at me, her look so stately it could’ve passed for royal. “I’m not worried at all.”
Without batting an eye, I replied. “Maybe you should be.”
The way I Stan zarfina like omg

Okay I loved them both in this book, the way zafira comes into her feelings is something that was just so cute cuz she was like wait I like her no I wanna kill her but like she’s so pretty but like I want her dead and I was like ahhh. Umm jade was again hot asf and them together omg their partner and crime stuff OMFG I LOVED IT. I fuckimg hated zafiras brother like the little sexist bitch can die tbh. The over all plot wasn’t like amazing or anything but the book made up for it in just really fucking good description writing and just like characters that were so good.

Quotes:

“I heard your engagement to my brother has been made official. Congratulations.” I searched for the hidden packet of cigarettes and lit one to hide the blatant lie. Surprisingly enough, I didn’t need to lie much around Jade. Frank truths seemed to suit us both better and yet, I couldn’t say I was happy about her bethrotel.
Satisfied that I was one step closer to disposing of the Crown Prince? Yes.
Delighted that she’d be soon married to my brother? No. Not really.
“Your information is correct.” Jade’s hand trailed down my arm and stole the fag from my fingers. She took a long drag and let the smoke dance from her lips. “Are you jealous?”
Like the way they interacted is so superior

“What an annoying git. I couldn’t wait to be an only child again. I eyed my parents. Or better yet. An orphan.
“My sweet boy!” Mother cooed, draping herself along his arm like a towel. “You look so handsome today.”
“Thanks, Mama.” He kissed her hand, his dark eyes filled with arrogance. He loved having a doting mother and ever since we were children, couldn’t resist pointing out how much closer he was to his Mama. The one time I tried to call her that, I got a slap around my ears. Such a foolish mistake from my younger self.
“You won’t forget your dear Mama when you’re married, will you?” She pinched his cheek as if he was still a child. Why people insisted on these shows of affection was baffling.”
She’s literally just funny asf

“The small flower fluttered to the ground where it fell between our feet. The contrast of red on the dark earth was almost like a drop of blood on a battlefield. So innocent and yet, so tainted.”
The book had so many of these just amazing lines

“I wanted to punish her with a thousand whips, to destroy her until her spirit broke, to annihilate her so the wind could steal her ashes.”

“But within all that hate and anger, I wanted to kiss her. More than anything else, I wanted to run my fingers along her smooth spine or thread them through her hair. To colour her skin red with blushes and lashes, to bring submission to her eyes, to taint her with my words, to corrupt her with my touch. And I wanted her to like it.
I ground my teeth in the unladylike manner that Father and my teacher used to scold me for, but the annoyance just wasn’t leaving and I didn’t know how to get rid of it without either killing or kissing Jade.”
Bruh the way she like took so long to understand her feelings and the way she was just so confused was so ohm I loved it.

“Her irresistible smile had me bathing in intrigue, the shimmer in her green eyes encouraged my obsession, and the swing of her step fanned on my desire.”
These lines these linesssss

“In this devil, I met my match. Twisted corrupted by more of the very same, dancing in a symphony of darkness and immorality. Or at least, that was how we started out.”
I don’t even have words bruh

“Her soft hand found my cheek as she leaned in for a new kind of kiss. One that had no flames or fire, without spice and desire. The electricity hummed, the sparks dulled. The passion and lust made room for something entirely else. Something that was cool and gentle like the first drop of rain, but quickly escalated into a raging storm that ripped through everything and anything coming in its way. Forcefully gentle and terrifyingly tender.
Soft on soft, the hypnotising intimacy captured me in a cage of content and satisfaction.”
Tell me you don’t stan them, tell me you don’t stan them

“There was no way I could get away with not taking a husband if I wanted to rule. I'd need to produce an heir and have a man as a puppet for the people. And yet... A small part of me suddenly wondered what it would be like to have a queen next to me instead of a king.”
The subtle way she slowly slowly started accepting her feelings and like she would have thoughts like that was ahh

“I thought white girls were supposed to be slutty."
"Right..." If only I had the power to tell him that was racist, but one didn't anger the crown prince lightly.”
THIS WAS SO FUNNY, NOT RACIST TO WHITES BYEEE. IM LITERALLY LEAVING I CANNOT

“I wanted her. I coveted her in a way I never desired anyone before. Irrationally, against better judgement, I really wanted her.”
If you don’t love them, die.

“She caught me in a strange gaze, her eyes ever changing. From dark to light, from warm to bright. They flamed with passion and danced with tenderness. She brushed her thumb over my cheek and smiled. "Make me forget."
My breath stocked in my throat, my voice barely a whisper. "Make you forget what?"
"Who I am, why I came here, what I want… Make me forget everything that isn't you.”
THIS THIS TJIS

“Guess I'm not very humble either."
"Why would we be?" Jade reached across me for the cigarette smouldering on the nightstand and took a long drag. "We're extraordinary."
"Maybe, but we're not allowed to be." I stole the smoke from her and tapped the ashes on the little tray. "The world is not ready for us."
"That's because we possess true power." Jade looked up at me, her eyes swimming with something I didn't recognise. "You and I, we're the same."
"I'm not sure if that's a relief or an insult."
"Not sure either."
"I always thought I was special. Unique. Different. And then you came along."
The blonde chuckled. "Like looking in the mirror. Two sides of the same twisted coin."
"Maybe so..." I trailed my fingers through her hair, loving how the tresses slipped through them. "You're certainly not like anyone else I've ever met."
"Neither are you." Jade smiled. "You're the first real challenge."
Flattered, I perked up and admired the playful look on her face. She never showed this expression to the outside world, or as I suspected, to anyone else. It made her look vulnerable, weak, human. And I loved it, but for very different reasons than I thought I would.
It wasn't like a predator looking at a prey, delighted at finding the weak spot in the neck. No, it was a lone wolf realising that the nights didn't have to be so cold anymore. That there was someone to howl with and chase the sheep of the world. A companion in the dark, a partner in crime.”
Just seeing her get her feelings bruh I cant

“You're evil." Jade chuckled and pulled me into her. "It's hot."
"Kiss me then," I whispered back.”
The way they made out while torturing someone is so hot and superior

Overall I Stan jade and zafrina so hard I love them.

Play to Kill by Arizona Tape is a Royal Lesbian Fiction Romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Portia Kay Winters.

This book was previously titled Twisted Lives and is the second book in The Twisted Trilogy. “Twisted Games is a dark and twisted lesbian romance, with a lot of sensitive and harsh topics. Be mindful when you read if you’re triggered by: Physical abuse, dub-con, blood, and death. Please read with caution!”

This is the second book of Arizona’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. The story did end on a cliffhanger but that is no surprise since its part of a trilogy. I cannot wait until the last book is released.

Portia did a great job on the narration. I thought her voice was perfect for a Royal. I loved that she used different tones/voices for each character. I did have to speed up the narration to 1.5-1.75 otherwise it seemed a bit slow.

Jade and Zafira are up to no good in book two. Jade proposes a deadly challenge to Zafira. Jealousy is running through Zafira and she has never experienced anything like it. I can’t imagine how this will end.

Arizona Tape has written an addictive and spectacular dark lesbian romance story. The emotion, journey and actions that the characters take, make you become so absorbed in the story that you won’t want it to end.

Zafira’s internal monologue and character development, are my favourite things about her. She’s addictive, manipulative, twisted and isn’t afraid to do whatever is needed to reach her end goal.

Twisted Lives is the second book in The Twisted Trilogy, which follows on immediately after Twisted Games - which will need to be read first. I highly recommend this series and can’t wait to read the conclusion to the series with Twisted Ends. The “twisted” reference in the title of the books and series is adeptly named.

Note: trigger warnings are clearly mentioned before starting the book.

Favourite quotes
So poetically twisted:
“Understanding people by studying their life flashing in front of their eyes. It revealed what kind of person they truly were and what they believed in.”

This one is just beautiful:
“To be the only sunshine after the dark and the only drop of drew after the night.”

This book is a twisted tale of the darkest parts of the human soul. Arizona Tape takes the amazingly complicated and corrupt characters to the edge of humanity. She has weaved a tale of two power hungry psychopaths who simultaneously love and despise each other. What lies in the darkest part of us is revealed through the actions of these two beautiful and powerful women. How they express their perverse sexual desires to how they regain down their power is revealed with amazing detail and sends shivers down your back and reminds us their are people without a conscience. It is an amazingly well written book for those who dare to peek into this dark world.

Our heroines have this love/hate relationship going on. Both want the same thing, but neither is the type to share.

This is book two in the series and it picks up where the first book ends. I strongly recommend reading them in order to understand the characters and the situation.

This is a rather dark story which may be hard for some to read. The continues story to be very well written and keeps you involved right up to the end. The characters are well developed and we get a bit more of a focus on the heroine in this book than in the previous. Still, this is a dark and twisty story, have no doubt. If you like that sort of thing, then this one is right up your alley.

Highly recommended.

The twisted duo of Princesses Zafira and Jade continue to flourish in this book. Zafira despises her brother Oumar and concentrates on how to deal with Jade (the imposter) and control events to come. Lust or love cannot be allowed to cloud her mind. Both women are eager for the upper hand and more and more Zafira's resolve is tested. The ultimate challenge may be her undoing, a calculated bluff, an elaborate foolish scheme. Murder, sex, deceit, all play a part but will a winner emerge from all the torture?
My fascination with the dark layered characters written by Ms. Tape kept me reading to the end. The final book can't come soon enough.

This is part two in The Twisted Trilogy. Princess Zafira and her dark, twisted tale continues. Just like book one, I was hooked as I turned each page and got further and further into the story. The plot continues to twist and turn and travel down some very dark paths. Jade and Zafira's relationship is a constant wonder, is it real or is it all part of a front for something more? I cannot wait for book three! Beware and enjoy!

Jade and Zafira are back and as dark as ever. While they are still competing and testing each other, their relationship is growing, But how to tell what real and what’s a con when they are both psychopaths? I liked seeing a little more..I want to say vulnerable, but Zafira isn’t vulnerable but she is more focused on feelings, and not liking that she is having some. There is a twist at the end and I can’t wait to see what these two do next.

This is a new author for me and I will be looking for more from her. I loved this book and the dark journey it took me on. I was pulled in right from the beginning and turning pages just so I could see what happened next. The characters brought the story to life and made me feel part of the story. I couldn't put this book down once I started it. I didnt regret picking up this book and neither will you. This is a must read!

This book was mind-blowing! Tape is a writing genius! I can't get enough of this story. This is the second book of The Twisted Trilogy. Zafira and Jade are both exquisite and psychotic. They are the same side of the coin. This story is a game to find out who will be left standing at the end. This book ends on a cliffhanger. I can hardly wait for the next and final book of this trilogy, Play To Keep.

Zafira and Jade are back in book two of the Twisted Princesses trilogy and this book picks up where book one left off. This book puts more focus on Zafira and Jade's relationship as their competition intensifies. From the inner dialogue to the descriptive writing, this is an entertaining read. I loved to push and pull between the characters and after that cliffhanger I can't wait to read the final book in the trilogy. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

This was a great book but it wasn’t as great as the first. There was nothing interesting happening. I had high hopes but was really disappointed. There was no plot and it only focused on Zafira being jealous and I wish there was more talk about her plan to become queen. The ending was great tho and I think the next book will be the best in the entire series.

When is the fucker gonna die? Seriously I thought he would die in this book, but apparently not. On the brighter side, at least the two are getting closer, and Zafira finally accepted her feelings for Jade, even if its momentarily.

The maid torture was surprisingly hilarious and entertaining, maybe because i didnt care for them and it was quite cute to see Jade push Zaf to kill with her own hands. They are definitely psychopaths, so the disturbing scene didn’t really seem out of character, but it was kind of irrelevant to the overall plot, kind of just there to show how dark Zaf and Jade are apparently.

I originally read this as Twisted Lives, I just listened to the audio of Play to Kill. This is the follow up to Play to Kiss, which I absolutely loved.

I still really enjoy Zafira and her internal voice - she's manipulative and twisted and I can't get enough. This book is still dark and twisted but really focuses more on the relationship between Zafira and Jade. I really enjoyed the power struggle between them as they try to figure each other out and stay one step ahead. I can't wait for the conclusion to this series to see where their story goes.

The narration by Portia Kay Winters was great again, she has a smooth voice that's a pleasure to listen to.

This is the second book in the Twisted Trilogy series and it picks up right where the first book ends. I love Zafira's internal monologue and her character development in this book. She is a head strong character that is not afraid to do whatever she needs to do to reach her end goal. The power struggle between Jade and Zafira is rather interesting to watch as they compete and test each other. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
