'Long ago, in the far-away land of China, in a little village set among emerald green rice fields, there lived a little girl called Kei-lin'.
In The Enchanted Egg you will read about her and all the extraordinary adventures she had, with the strangest of fairy-tale creatures for her friend, and a mission which was to lead her through realms which were beautiful, frightening and mysterious in turn.
It all began during the New Year celebrations when Kei-lin slipped away with her pet buffalo and rode him down to the stream...
A childhood favourite, I have thoroughly enjoyed re-reading this to my daughter. This is a delightful adventure with flavours of China throughout. When Kei-lin learns that Prince Sung has been marked for death by the Empress, she feels she must do what she can to save him. Accompanied by a talking dragon, she faces many dangers and visits a rich variety of realms in her quest, from the realm of dreams to the land of the Yin and the Yang.
I picked up this book that a friend had given me some years ago. Although it is a children's book I loved the story. A girl from a village rides her Buffalo in the evening of New Year Day. An action she takes means that she meets a boy escaping from men he believes are planning to kill him. This sends he on a fascinating trip and as she travels you get to learn more of the mythology of China.
