Welcome to Bad@ss Builds where the motorcycles are as sexy as the brothers building them.

Austin Burns:

I thought she wasn’t real the first time I saw her. To be fair I was a hungover mess when I woke up and looked into her gorgeous eyes. After getting the second worst news of my life — that my father would be paroled soon — I’d escaped to my buddy’s posh cabin near Lake Tahoe. Now the maid with the gorgeous eyes is snowed in with me, and I wonder if she might be a better distraction than the mountain of booze I’d planned on drinking. She’s curvy in all the right places, and the snow is falling faster.

Rachel Tannenbaum:

As a single mom, I don’t have time for men, especially irresponsible tattooed bad boys like my ex. But Austin is hot. And sexy. And stuck here in the cabin with me. I can’t say no to a fling with this bad boy, especially since Austin is so gorgeous and awkwardly sweet.

One night becomes two, and I don’t know if I can risk my heart — and my little boy’s — if Austin wants it to become more when we get through the snow and back to reality.

Yet another mixed bag of a book. For the most part, I enjoyed it. I like this author's writing style, and her stories always have a good flow to them. I loved the whole close-knit family feels Austin had with his brothers, cousin, and Aunt. I liked Rachel's mother, and Wyatt was cute. There wasn't any OW or OM drama. The sex scenes were hot and plentiful. All good things...

description

My main issue with this one, well two actually, were the main characters themselves. For half the book Austin just wasn't likable AT ALL. He acted like a bi-polar douche, and he treated Rachel like crap. However, he does become much more likable in the second half of the book. Unfortunately, that is around the time Rachel turns into this ridiculous over the top b!tch. I did like her up until the "event." I mean...girlfriend took ONE incident (that had a reasonable explanation if she had bothered to ask) and then blew it SOOO out of proportion, I kind of wanted Austin to say...sayonara bitch and move on to someone without a baseball bat shoved up their a$$. (lol) Alas, we can't always get what we want!

So yea, another mixed bag to add to my ever-growing collection of mixed bags this week.

As a quick and easy read this one was okay but for the most part I was just a little bored while reading. I felt like not a lot happened and there was nothing to actually intrigue me about the story and characters. I can't say I even saw a connection between them really. I am a little interested in the brothers but I'm not sure I'll give their books a try.

Austin seems to be carrying the world on his shoulders. Or at least the protection of his brothers. He’s risen to the challenge but it wasn’t necessarily by choice. His past is dark and frightening and shadows his present. Rachel likewise carries a heavy burden as she struggles to provide for her son and her disabled mother. There is no time or money for even the simple things in life much less a relationship. Which opens her up to the possibility of spending one wild night with the man of her dreams.

This is one of those feel good romances that is laced with just enough angst to keep things interesting and then springing a large conflict that makes the characters re-evaluate their priorities. Both Rachel and Austin are damaged in some way and both have their faults that tend to lead their decision making. But when things are flowing smoothly for them they are perfect together. With a medium range of heat, a tiny tot on the peripheral of the story, and a group of brothers that define dysfunctional it kept my interest until the end.

This story actually surprised me by not going in the direction I thought it would. It is definitely not your cookie cutter romance. Although a few interactions between the characters felt a bit stilted and the chemistry a tiny bit lacking, the ending rang with sincerity along with a sweet little epilogue that I wish had been longer and a little further out. Hopefully we get more of them as this series continues. After all, there are three more brothers and they each promise an interesting read.

This was pretty good. Austin was a bit too moody for my liking, but he won me over towards the end. I did like the scenes with his brothers. Totally dysfunctional but they cared for one another. Rachel and her mom were another atypical family, but they worked. Both families were realistic, and I liked it :)

Rachel and Austin are snowed in and must face their past and forge a future together. Lots of ups and down events that make for a great read. Read in one day! Build by Gillian Archer is the First book in the Burns Brothers Series. This is the story of Rachel Tannenbaum and Austin Burns.
Austin is a a cabin looking to lick his wounds before facing a new family issue. Rachel is working at that cabin when they both get stuck there. Rachel has her own past that she doesn't want to relive and she has a child that she needs to be focused on. But these two come together for a brief time but they are finding out that it may not be so brief...feelings are starting to take over for them.
Enjoyed their story.

Overall Opinion:
Rushing down Tahoe to drink away his troubles after discovering the news that his father would be paroled soon, Austin suddenly awakens to find Rachel, the hired help who sets his heart ablaze with one look. Their romance starts off shaky and the past lingers close by, and with the how easily the story flowed, it was hard to put this book down.

Overall I was highly impressed by the writing style, concept of the entire series and the realistic characters. You were able to feel the strong connection of the leads and learn about their backstories which obviously explains why the developing relationship was so touch and go. Was enjoyable to read and I look forward to reading the next part of the series with the next Burn brother, Ryan.

Darn it, I really wanted to like this one. I mean, LOOK at the cover!! And, forced proximity romances are so fun.

The problem? Austin and Rachel just have no chemistry. When they find out they are stuck together, there was no "how will I keep my hands to myself?" feeling. Nor was there one of "OMG, how am I going to survive this stuck with him/her?" This lack of tension, either positive or negative, made me feel very "meh" about this title.

Add in the fact that I was already struggling to like Austin (I have no issues with characters who use the work fuck...drive with me, it's a word I've met myself) but when it is used as a character building tool...well, that doesn't work for me. And, it didn't work here.

This is the first in a new series about a group of brothers who do custom motorcycle builds. The book does a great job setting up the characters and the premise of the series. This is Austin's book. He is the oldest brother and has the big bad protector role down. He meets Rachel by chance but a snow storm looks them in together for a couple of days and they get to know each other.

Old demons rear their heads though for both of these two. Austin fights to break down Rachel's walls. Rachel fights to get Austin to be present. Both their families weigh in as well. Lot's of steam when these two are together.

Great start to the series and wonderful sneak peek at the next book. Looking forward to more!

Oldest of the Burns brothers who would rather run and drink than face bad news. While he's hiding out he finds Rachel, a single mom who's has a bad history with men who don't stick around. They are snowed in, have lots of sex, and start to fall in love. They get home and start dating. Austin gets more bad news and runs again. Tragedy strikes and they eventually work it all out.

I have been off to a rocky start this year reading wise. I have not read a book that has wowed me, but Build by Gillian Archer is for sure the closest I've come so far.

Austin Burns is having a rough go. He's just gotten word that his father is being paroled in three months - and he freaks out. So much so that he takes off for his friends cabin in Lake Tahoe. Where he manages to drink himself into a stupor.

Rachel Tannenbaum is a single mother working two jobs to make ends meet. She cleans houses during the day, and ends up at the same house as Austin. While she's cleaning, a massive snow storm hits, and they are stranded together. Rachel freaks out a little, knowing she can't go see her son, but Austin helps her get through her anxiety.

I'm sure you can figure out that they end up hooking up. Though there are lots of points during the story where Austin acts like a total ass hat. Rachel was a good character. She's trying to take care of her mother, who is paralyzed, and her three year old son, Wyatt.

I also liked the back story with Austin's brothers, Ryan, Nathan and Dylan, who are likely all to get their own stories. The dynamic really felt authentic. All the swearing and men being men. I enjoyed it.

Two things I didn't enjoy - Austin's fleeing every time things got rough, and Rachel's inability to trust. I have trust issues, so I get them to an extent, but I also know that at some point, you just have to let things go.

Another issue I had was the issue surrounding Austin's father. There was a lot of drama surrounding the storyline, but there was no closure. It was kind of like the author forget the father was paroled.

I wish the epilogue would have been a little further out in the future, and given us a little more closure, but I guess we are going to get three more books, so we will know what happens with Rachel and Austin going forward.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable book and I would recommend it.

Almost a 3.5 star read for me. I liked the families. Austin's complicated relationships with his brothers made for interesting reading and I kept turning the page to read more about their turbulent dynamic. Rachel's son and mother were great secondary characters, adding humor and depth in appropriate amounts. I liked the final conflict and resolution. It felt real for the characters and counteracted the major impediment to the relationship, which made the HEA very satisfying. Plus it expanded on the family ties and made me curious about the subsequent books in the series.

Austin's default response to stress was running away and I just rolled my eyes at him after the third or fourth time. Rachel responded by emotionally withdrawing and/or citing her other responsibilities, which felt a bit more valid but still got a little frustrating.

Excellent start to what should be a fun new series. Both the main and secondary characters are fun and interesting and I can't wait for more of these over the top brothers. Loved the banter between the characters and the chemistry between Austin and Rachel was sizzling. Both of the characters had moments where you wanted to smack them but overall I wanted to see them find their way. I would definitely recommend this very enjoyable book.

"I'd always remember him and our weekend together. But Austin was a snowy fantasy. He had no place here in my real life. No matter how much I wished he did."

So many feels!! These characters were completely adorable, the banter enjoyable, and I ate this story up quickly and with voracity. Austin, a hot alpha, with flaws and damage meets the insecure, yet strong Rachel by chance and the dominoes just fall and I was swept up in their tale. It will make you yell at your kindle, the pace keeps you engulfed, the backstory and happenings make you want to binge the series, and I had such a blast reading this one. There were a few unanswered questions that had such a huge build up in this story that kind of went unanswered, but I'm only hoping that it will come back in future books about the brothers that I'm dying to get my hands on. I loved the vulnerability, the stubborness, and transformation of both characters! I thank the Author for providing a copy to read!

"After last night, there was no way I was done with her. I needed more time. I needed more Rachel."

Rachel doesn't understand her man at times, “what?” Rachel stood up and blew her bangs out of her eyes. “Why are you talking about your junk? Don’t you care that you have glass sticking out of your hand?” Austin wants to make sure his girl is focused, “okay, okay . Do you need me to put a shirt on, so you don’t get all distracted again?” I loved this book, I fell in love with Austin.

This is my first book by the author and though this wasn't a home run with me, I'm interested enough to read the next book and see what happens.
Build showed potential, it's an interesting read but not a can't put it down read for me.
Honestly Austin spent a good bit of the book being a total jackass and that ruined him for me, no matter what changes he made he was still jackass material.
In all fairness both characters have their own issues it just seems Austin took it to the extreme attitude wise and I just can't stomach that kind of behavior. It reiterated the story's blurb for me. Rich guy and the help. I wanted to punch him on more than one occasion.
Rachel is responsible for two people and busting her butt to make sure they are taken care of which shows strength but she came across as such a mild mannered weakling I just couldn't love her. I wanted to love her, what she was doing for her mom made me smile and warmed my icy heart but she was such a damn pushover I couldn't stand it.

I wanted to love this book, I really did. I liked it well enough but honestly just felt the chemistry was off, it just wasn't where it should be. There was a lack of connection for me at times that just didn't work, and that's probably just me but this is what I did and didn't enjoy about this read.

This is the 4th book I've read by this author, but the least I liked.

As another reviewer stated, it was really hard to like Austin. I found him to be incredibly immature throughout most of the book. Which is in direct contrast to what I expected of him based on his past. Rachel was great...until she blew something way out of proportion. Let's face, she was waiting for him to screw up and the moment he made a mistake she jumped on it. Even towards the end I found her to be very selfish even if she used her son as the excuse for her behavior.

Side note, in today's day it wouldn't have been possible for Austin to pick up Wyatt at school. There was no mention of Rachel listing him on the pick up approval list and their relationship wasn't there yet so it wouldn't have made sense for her to do that. Trish would have had to jump through some pretty major hoops to have this going on for days on end yet it was never discussed. As a parent I know the lengths the school makes you jump through before they'll release your child to someone other than a parent. This was a red flag for me.

And hello! Where was the closure with the dad? We have an epilogue three months later which fits when something major should have been happening but it's not mentioned again?

I enjoyed this story, however in the end I was a bit annoyed with Rachel.
Austin Burns was a celebrity in his own. A custom build mechanic with his own tv show he shares with his 3 brothers. Austin and his brothers were raised by their aunt when their mother was killed and their father went to prison for the crime.
Now years later his father is being released and Austin just needed to escape. Things were just too much for him. So he went to a cabin in Lake Tahoe and met someone who was going to take away his sorrows. Or just someone to help him spend the weekend getting hot and steamy.

Rachel was a maid during the day and a bartender at night. She had two jobs to take care of her mother who was in a wheelchair and her little boy. She didn't have time for fun or getting naked with a the guy she has been drooling over in magazines. She was responsible and can't be stuck in a cabin with no way home. But that's what happened. Now, no way home stuck in a luxury cabin with a hot guy, I mean maybe she can just forget about the responsibilities waiting for her at home.
But when the weekend is over its back to reality, or is that really what she wants. Soon things become more complicated than she wished it was and Rachel has to make a decision on if Austin is the responsible man that she needs in her life or is that too much to ask of him and all the issues that is going on his life.

A nice easy to read romance book about a guy who wasn't out looking for a relationship and ended up with a girl and a little boy he couldn't walk away from. I can't wait to read the rest of this series. Hopefully its not a long wait...

Austin and his three brothers own a motorcycle shop which specializes in custom designs and they have created quite the reputation for themselves. When he receives some disturbing news about his family he needs some time to decide how to handle it so he heads to a friend’s cabin to drown his sorrow. Getting snowed in with the woman who was cleaning the cabin could either be the best thing to happen to him or the worst.

Rachel is a woman who is weighted down by the responsibilities she is handling on her own. She works multiple jobs and is not only a single mother but her mother due to health issues is dependent on her as well. The last thing she needs is to be away from her family when they need her the most especially when she is stuck with someone who is acting more like a petulant child rather than a man.

Spending time together the chemistry between them ignites but when they are no longer snowbound will they realize it was only a fling or the beginning a future together?
This is a story about two people who weren’t looking for love but sometimes there is a bigger plan and they couldn’t have been a better match.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
Austin Burns is one of the brothers who build motorcycles and they own Bada$$ Builds. With a reality show behind them and possibly more on the horizon, there is always someone looking to get one of their bikes. When Austin gets some bad news, he needs time to process it and drink until he can't think. He goes to a friend's Tahoe cabin for the night.
Rachel Tannenbaum is a single Mom working two jobs and living with her mother who is in a wheelchair. They live in a rundown apartment and barely getting by. When Rachel is sent to clean a cabin in Tahoe, she just wants to get done and head home before the snowstorm moves in. When she walks into the beautiful cabin she finds a very drunk and shirtless Austin Burns.
When the snowstorm hits, both Rachel and Austin are stuck in the cabin for two days. What are they to do with each other? Maybe they should test the electrical current running between them because it is just about to melt the snow.
This story is filled with pain, heartache, and love. The pain and heartache are more from Austin and his brother's past and it will break your heart to read it. And the Prologue at the end is for the next book with Ryan and it is going to be so good. This author has a way of telling a story with a broken hero and the woman who helps him heal. So check her out if you haven't read her yet.

Very good premise, enjoyable story, and characters I liked for the most part. Austin & Rachel's initial meeting is both LOL funny & sad, due to the reason he's inebriated. And I like their interactions, except the swiftness that Austin falls back on a-hole mode is a bit concerning. He continues that pattern a little too long for my full enjoyment. There's also a SOB (seemingly obligatory breakup) that just didn't fully work for me. I didn't feel like they got enough happy page time, I think.

Overall, however, I enjoyed the story & loved getting to know these characters (which is why I wanted more happy page time! LOL) & I liked the author's writing style. I have another by her on my kindle, from a different series, so I'm going to read that one before deciding to continue w/ this series. The other blurbs certainly have my interest piqued!

Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:

Build is my very first read by Gillian Archer and I am so glad I gave her a try because this book was REALLY good! Steamy, engaging, emotional and romantic, with a gentle push and pull that draws a reader in, I was enraptured with this book from start to finish!

I liked both Rachel and Austin. These two had amazing chemistry and great personalities that seemed to mesh well together. The romance is pure and tempting and the sexy times had tons of heat and made me sigh out loud. I loved how the story flowed and didn't want to see this end. I was very pleased with it and am looking forward to reading more from this particular author.

Build gets a VERY APPEALING FOUR AND A HALF SHOOTING STARS!

What do you get when you mix a sexy, broody, alpha with a kind, loving, single mother? You get Build. Austin and Rachel have immediate sparks the second they meet and that chemistry grows to be explosive the longer they’re together. Full of some fantastic steam and a dash of sweetness to go with the drama this one is hard to put down.
This could have been easily five stars for me, but occasionally the constant fighting between Austin and his brothers felt forced and unnecessary. It took away from Austin and Rachel’s story more than added to it. Outside of the constant brawls however the romance between these two is wonderful. Austin is night and day different when it comes to not only Rachel but also her precious son. He’s gentle and sweet when it comes to those two and that’s what really made me love him.
These two have quite the emotional ride to their happiness that will have you hooked and dying for what is coming on each page.

I definitely liked this book but I felt like the main characters were at each others throats too much. I understand a bit of fighting but jeez, it felt like everything was an argument. I will say that I Did feel like the first 70 percent of the book the parts about their father was a little too heavy for the story but by the end it did flow better.
I'm super interested to know more about Dylan and the west coast kings MC.
I dont know if I would be able to forgive my sibling if they did something like that but I guess I would have to.
Good story, annoying characters to a degree, AWESOME DOGGY!

Burns Brothers Series

A new motorcycle series?  Yes please!

Build is the first in the new series by Gillian Archer.  The series focuses on the brother Burns and their custom motorcycle shop.

Austin is the oldest Burns brother and this is his book.  He has the heavy mantle of responsibility for his brothers and his shop on his shoulders.  His backstory is horrifying and it's a miracle he isn't more scared (both physically and mentally) than he already is.  When he gets some earth shaking news, he breaks and runs to the cabin of a friend in Tahoe to process the news in a not so healthy way.

Rachel is a single mom, struggling with everyday and keeping her little family together.  For someone so young, she is forced to be mature beyond her years.  She to is burdened by a heavy mantle of responsibility her past has made her bent and a bit broken as well. When weather forces her to stay with Austin in the cabin, that's when the sparks fly.

Austin and Rachel's chemistry is on fire! Rachel has never experienced the overwhelming feelings she has for Austin and it scares her.  Austin, who has never had the word commitment in his vocabulary, struggles to be better for Rachel. Rachel struggles to trust herself and to trust Austin and it's moving to read and feel.

There is angst, there is swooniness and there is redemption and forgiveness in this story.  The perfect combination!

You get a fantastic introduction to all of the brothers in this first book and I can't wait to read their stories soon!

This was different and I liked it, we have Austin who ran away to a cabin to get away from the knowledge of his dad getting out of prison,  so his plans are to drink the thought away.
Rachel is a single mom who is the cleaning lady for the cabin and they get snowed in together.
She puts her son first but the sparks that these two have can not be stopped but can they both look past what they have been through to see what could be? Can Austin grow up?
This book is an awesome start to this new series and I can't wait for the next one

This story is about Austin a alpha-hole who has his own baggage and tends not to deal with it. He and his brothers own and operate a custom build shop and tend to work out their differences with their fist instead of their words. He receives some rather unsettling news and takes off to friends cabin to "deal" with it while drinking himself into a drunken stupor.

Enter Rachel a young insecure woman. She is a single parent who works 2 jobs to support her son and mother. She ends up showing up to the cabin as her last job of the day. Upon her arrival she discovers Austin there. While she is working Mother Nature intervenes and decides to drop a few feet of snow.

Their meeting is less than ideal, but they both decide to make the best of the situation. The banter between the 2 keeps the story flowing really well. Austin is a commitment phobe and is not looking for anything serious. However, the young and beautiful Rachel makes him feel and think that maybe he can see himself change his ways. Rachel decides she would like to give them a shot, but is leery because she has been burned in the past. Their love is not instantaneous or easy. They both face some harsh realities and need to decide if it is worth it. Yes the families did intervene, but hey sometimes you need the help of your loved ones to get you to see what you could be missing out on.

I really did enjoy the story, but there are a few questions that did not get answered that I am hoping get answered in future books. The secondary characters were fun and witty and I can not wait to see how everybody else's stories unravel. I'm especially looking forward to seeing just how the brothers get knocked on there asses by whatever females catch not only there eyes, but hearts as well.
