edit biographydelete Biography Amy Cecil is an award-winning Indie author of both historical and contemporary romance. Her penchant for Austen fan fiction, won her the title of Favorite Historical Romance Author (2016-2017) while her MC series has won several awards throughout the Indie community. Recently, she has expanded her repertoire to the thriller and erotic genres.
For as long as she can remember, Amy always had a book (or two) that she was reading for the love of getting lost within its pages. Amy has been heard to have said, “I’ve never given much thought to becoming a writer myself until I realized that if I hadn’t written my own version of Mr. Darcy, I might have run out of material to read.”
And thus, her first novel was born, A Royal Disposition. In the words of Miss Austen herself, “I wish as well as everybody else to be perfectly happy; but, like everybody else, it must be in my own way.” Ms. Cecil writes to do just that.
She lives in North Carolina with her husband, Kevin, and their four dogs. When she isn’t creating her next masterpiece, or traveling the country for book signings, she enjoys spending time with her husband, friends, and of course her fur babies.

Audiobook review. This book had me riveted from the very start. I absolutely loved it! I went in not knowing what to expect and was soon invested in Marie and Jax. Their suspicious beginnings, their unbridled passion, their unlikely love, their conflict and THAT ENDING. I’m still digesting it weeks later.
This was great story building from beginning to end. The plot, characters, prose, pacing, foreshadowing, conflict and climax were executed phenomenally. I couldn’t put it down.
The narrator, Marina Barrett, could not have been more perfect for this story. She did a great job with her accent, tone, pitch, pace and I couldn’t imagine a better Marie.
I am definitely looking forward to what happens next.

We all know the story of Jack the Ripper, but what you don't know is Amy Cecil’s version. Perfection is the best description of Ripper that I can think of, just perfection! Marie is a prostitute down on her luck until she meets Jax who sweeps her off her feet. The murders in Whitechapel have started and are gruesome, and things are pointing at Jax to be the killer. What is Marie to do now that she has fallen deeply in love with this man. Amy Cecil brings the heat enough to melt the walls of Jax and Marie's bedroom. See if you can figure out who the killer is because Amy has you guessing all the way to the end..
I also just finished listening to Ripper on Audible and here what else I had to say...
*A whole new level to Jack The Ripper* Marina Barrett narrates this perfecly, what a great fit! Marina bring life and character to the story even more than reading the book yourself. Totally perfection 💗
If you are searching for a book that will get your heart pumping and your mind reeling, and don’t happen to mind a few twisted, dark and disturbing scenarios, look elsewhere.
**Reading this book is like sitting in an alligator’s open mouth.
There is a tension and a danger that you can feel lurking on every page. No matter how calm the moment, or how tranquil the scene, it’s there, the pending violence is there.
This book has many layers, which makes it absolutely brilliant and one of the BEST historical thrillers I have ever read.
Firstly, the structure of the plot is flawless for many reasons. It’s complicated, twisted, and dark. There is an intense lust that you can’t fight as the story seduces you deeper.
The characters are dimensional perfection, varying in voice and mannerisms that make them distinguishable.
I also applaud any author, that presents with flare, a seriously flawed main character. Not only is Marie imperfect, she is also aware of it, and almost unapologetic even when she’s remorseful.
This protagonist had an INCREDIBLE voice. She was someone that kept this book alive and made me want to read.
This WAS late-Victorian England. The East End was dark, mucky, damp, cold, shadowy... the West End was glamor and posh excellence. I was there, I felt it, saw it, heard it.
Now for the layers of this book.
Instinct. Oh, how this book is an ode to intuition. And you don’t even fully understand why until the last chapter. But this story blew open the concept of primal instinct. It’s almost chilling how our protagonist Marie operates based on how she feels.
Perception. This book unveils the human trait of seeing the world through a telescope of preconceptions. We see what we want to see and yet we only process a small amount of what we ACTUALLY see.
Self destruction. This was the big one. Humans usually find some sort of way to self destruct. Smoking, drugs, over eating, cheating on a good relationship, giving up on a dream. This was like the ultimate point. This hidden thread of truth hit me square between the eyes.
This story took a HUGE amount of commitment on the author’s side. There were moments the book could have fallen into a weak stereotype and instead, the author tore down the box and fearlessly went there. This was a masterpiece and it will be with me for a long, long time.
Something heinous is happening. Somebody who calls himself Jack the Ripper is murdering the Ladies of the night in Whitechapel. Who will be next? I hear business is suffering because people are afraid to go out at night, but the night can't be all that bad can it? I mean I met him at night didn't I? Love is truly one of the strongest emotions out there, but if you take too much time analyzing it well it can turn itself into something else and once that happens all is lost.
I have to say that Amy Cecil is magnificent. As you read this story The Ripper comes alive in all his cunning glory. There was never a dull moment in this book as my mind was constantly on the go trying to stay one step ahead. I have to thank Ms. Cecil for whisking me away back to the streets of London in 1888 and making it all so real. If I could give this book dozens of stars it still wouldn't be enough.
“Ripper” is yet another book in a genre not normally part of what I read/listen to. As soon as I saw it, though….I knew I had to listen to this book. Marina Barrett. There. Those of you have read my reviews of Marina’s works (and those of her pseudonyms) know that I’d listen to here reading a phone book aloud.
So, “Ripper” is a fictionalized story of the very real first serial killer: Jack the Ripper. The story is from the viewpoint of the Ripper’s final known victim. So…a challenge for the author given that we sort of know the ending before we begin the book.
What makes “Ripper” work, is that the story focuses on events from the viewpoint and interpretations of one person. MC Marie is living a hard life in 1888 as a woman on her own. She was disowned by her weathy Irish family for marrying a man she loved and refusing an arranged marriage. He died a few years after marriage, and she was broke and alone in England at age 19.
Four years later, she has been turning tricks for four years to support herself, though she lives with a man (Joe) who loves her but she does not love.
One late night she meets a mysterious man just as she hears police whistles for what she later learns was a gruesome murder. She is attracted to him, and is thrilled when he walks into the pub soon after and offers her an exclusive arrangement for more money than she could imagine.
As time goes by, they are more and more attracted to each other, though the man, Jackson (Jacks), insisted he will never fall in love, and will never make love to her. He will fuck her senseless, but will never take what she does not offer or want. She’s intimidated by his “wolfish gaze”, and shocked at being in control of the use of her body for the first time in her life.
“Wolfish gaze”, eh? Author Amy Cecil’s writing is very sensual and descriptive. We spend most of the book not looking at characters and events from the outside, but viewing events from the inside of Marie’s mind. She is at times observant and clever, and at time maddeningly prone to leaps of conclusions. She is definitely an over thinker. So…I was sure I’d discovered Bridgett Essex writing under an alias for a hetero historical novel, working once again with Marina Barrett! Until I asked the author to confess. Either she wants to maintain her pseudonym, or I reached my own wrong conclusion. Odds are with me being in error on this occasion!
As the story progresses, and the murders continue, Marie and we are suspicious of her benefactor, Jacks. It’s creepy as we get bits and pieces of the Ripper clearly stalking Marie at times.
In Essex’s werewolf stories, we generally have a world where monsters are real, but not monstrous. The MC learns of their existence, and ends up loving and having a very good time with them. In Cecil’s story, we have a monster who is also real, but is human, and is very monstrous indeed.
“Ripper” does a great job leaving us clues and yet no clear path. As with Essex’s stories, we have massive miscommunication and misunderstanding, and unlike the werewolf stories, a tragic result.
There’s a twist at the ending, but that’s all I’ll say about it. 4.7* rounded up to 5* and a very strong recommendation for “Ripper”. Did I mention Marina Barrett is the narrator?
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
My rating and my review was not in anyway affected by my having been provided a review copy.
Jax has his eye on Marie and she's more than willing to agree to his arrangement, it's a lot better than what she's been doing as it's the perfect arrangement for a lady of the night. But someone they've dubbed Jack the Ripper is killing prostitutes and the timing of the deaths is all wrong.
Where is Jax when these horrific murders are happening? Wasn't their initial meeting shady? But Jax is a wonderful man, he's sexy and attentive, and Marie is starting to develop feelings for him. Certainly, he can't be Jack the Ripper. She needs to stop these crazy thoughts, what they have is good.
Despite Marie's doubts, these two are wonderful together. They have wonderful chemistry and it's obvious that Jax really cares for her. Cecil has done a wonderful job blending fact, romance, and suspense that has you swooning in one chapter and on the edge of your seat the next. The scenes between these two are incredible and the worry you have for Marie because the killer is out there has you biting your nails. Very well done!
Ripper by Amy Cecil Marie a lady of the night bumps into Jax in a back alley in Whitechapel. She has no idea that this meeting is about to change her life. Jackson is intrigued by the mysterious woman and seeks her out. Once he finds her, he propositions her and she cannot turn him down. Gruesome murders are occurring in Whitechapel. The serial killer seems to be targeting prostitutes. When certain incidents transpire it seems like Marie already knows whom Jack the ripper is. Can she walk away from the man she has fallen in love with? Or has her story already been written and carved in blood? The detail for the setting of London will take you right back to 1888. You will live in the era, as you become invested in the love story of Jax and Marie. Ms Amy Cecil has given us a version of Jack the Ripper that will capture you and haunt you. I was blown away by this story and to be honest I can’t wait to go back and read it all over again. Reviewed for Hot books and Sassy Girls book blog

I was anxiously awaiting this book release since the first teaser. Amy Cecil did not disappoint at all I was hooked from the first page and was so enchanted with the characters. I was captivated by the story of how fate can put you in a situation that is beyond your control and you have to do things just to survive. The ending is already foreseen but you still cannot believe what happens. Thank you Amy Cecil for bringing your own spin to this unsolved case and providing a love story to it as well . Looking forward to the sequel. Also I want to recognize Rebecca Weeks for her creative illustration for the book cover. I highly recommend any genre written by Amy Cecil.
What can I say about this book, well it was amazing, incredible and simply breathtaking! As we know back in the 1800 there was a serial killer named Jack the Ripper who was never caught, these are the accounts of the mind of man, who killed prositutes because he was in love with one! I don't want to ruin the story for others, but I want you to know that is by far one of the best books out there! Please if you get a chance to read I highly recommend it!!
Ripper by Amy Cecil is beautifully written, flawless, intense, sexy and sinister. I could feel the end rushing at me but I was helpless, I had to finish. This novel was gut-wrenching and suspenseful but utterly satisfying too. I've always been fascinated by the story of Jack the Ripper and I loved this fictional take on it. Both the attention to period detail as well as the actual murders were, in my opinion, extremely well done. I loved this book and can't wait to read the companion!
The Ripper was an amazing book it had my emotions on a roller coster! A must read if you like history or jack the ripper
This is Amy's first go at an erotic thriller and she knocked it out of the park! She kept me on my toes with suspense, steamy moments, falling in love, doubt and not sure who to trust. Her mix of historical events and her own twist was a wonderful blend.
wow this book really kinda scared me! it makes you think that it was really happening now. so detailed in this book. very sad ending though. not happy about that. i guess i need to read the next one to find out what happens next!
Amy labels this as an erotic thriller and it doesn’t disappoint. She keeps you on your toes the entire book. The story of around the Ripper murders comes to life. Great read!
Ripper is an intricately weaved historical tale of the calculated and methodical serial killer Jack The Ripper. I'm fascinated by the tale of Jack The Ripper and when on vacation in London, England, UK I went to the Jack The Ripper Tour where I seen the places and locations where these murders occurred. Author Amy Cecil has created a suspenseful erotic tale oozing with mystery, romance and unexpected twists seeping through the narrative. The anticipation of what's happening next will put you though a emotional wheel. The writing style is striking as well as riveting. A mind-boggling ending that will leave you wavering. I'm about to blow a gasket as I need this continuation The Mind Of A Killer (Ripper Book 2) to be turned into audio right now.
Narrator Marina Barrett kicked it up a notch with her performance. Her inflection was perfect and changed when voicing different characters. A skyrocketing portrayal of Marie, Jax and all the characters in this historical revolution of the "Real Life Jack The Ripper".
Ripper is hands down one of the best erotic thrillers I have read! Amy's takes her knowledge of how to write a historical drama and dives into the erotic thriller genre. Once again, giving us another show-stopping book! The environments Amy created in Ripper are impeccable and allows the reader to submerge themselves deeper into the story! Ripper is full of mystery and suspense, with just the perfect amount of steaming sexuality to get the reader hooked! You will not want to put this book down!
I don’t care what mood you are in, if you open this book you are practically guaranteed to be engrossed in a story about Jack the Ripper. This murder/mystery has so many twists and turns it will completely shock readers at the end of this story. Mrs. Cecil writes a harrowing novel that engages the readers throughout the book. Can love be found while Jack the Ripper is murdering and mutilating women? You must read to find out. Mrs. Cecil handles all themes with admirable dexterity and clarity. Well done Mrs. Cecil. Your creative writing style simply amazes me.
Warning ⚠️ not for the faint of heart definitely contains triggers ...
Wow Amy has out done herself this time this book is filled with mystery and intrigue and of course there has to be that spark between the leading characters, but still has powerful hints of violence .....a very good but very dark read and just to top it off of course there's twists u do see coming ... and the ending oh my gosh I didn't see that coming at all ....
I enjoyed this book it is definitely different from her M.C books but not in a bad way ...
Well this story definitely caught my attention and held it. I loved the historical components and that Cecil took a well known notorious piece of history and embellished it giving the reader a plausible impromptu presentation of events.
The script was uncomplicated and reflected the simplicity of former times. The possible interpretation of the motive behind the killings was suspenseful and creditable. The characters representative of the chronicled misfortune. And although Jack was never identified and the conclusion reflects real life, I somehow wish for an alternate ending.
Ripper is a fantastic fictional look at the story of Jack the Ripper. I was hooked from page one. Ripper is a suspenseful, emotional, thrill ride to the end. It was almost impossible to put down and carry on everyday life. I just want to read it nonstop.
Ripper is the first book I have read from Amy Cecil. I enjoyed that she took a sensational story like Jack the Ripper and put her own romantic spin on it. Amy kept me guessing as to who the killer was and I am pleased to say my first instincts were right. However, she did make me question myself.
As you know, the Ripper murders were never solved. This is Amy’s story of this historic event. She takes you back into the possibilities of the minds of a killer, a victim and a romance. She weaves such a spellbinding tale that keeps you riveted until the end. I do have to say for all you hardcore romantics, even though this is a Love story, it is not an HEA!! It’s murder thru and thru, a heartbreaker, a what if. That being said, I absolutely loved it. ❤️❤️❤️ GREAT JOB!!!
What a great book! This is the first time reading this author and it was such a pleasure. This book contained everything a story needs to get the reader to flip through each page captivated by each and every word. This story holds its own and will keep you anxiously coming back for more as it unfolds and reveals all its secrets. I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for more books from this author.

Whiling keeping historically accurate to the Ripper, Amy gives you a glimpse into what life may have been like for a prostitute during the days of Jack the Ripper. Sexy and thrilling, an emotional rollercoaster.
