At Three Bears surf break, the attraction between a group of friends is anything but “Luke warm….”
Dan goes to stay with his best friend Josh in Margaret River, the surfing capital of Western Australia, to sort out his sexual confusion. But his best friend is the source of that confusion. Having never been attracted to a man other than Josh, Dan fears risking their friendship just to discover men aren’t his thing.
Within the first few days, Dan meets Luke, a local barista who offers him surf lessons. Dan soon finds himself emotionally coveting not one, but two men. When they go to Three Bears, his hidden desires begin to emerge. As the ambiguity of Dan’s mixed signals clears, it becomes apparent both of his surfing companions want him—badly.
It is only when Luke and Josh hook up that they formulate “Operation Three Bears,” an adventurous plan that might lead to a satisfying outcome for all of them.
World of Stories of romance that span every corner of the globe.
A. Nybo lives in Western Australia. She believes the perfect recipe for reality includes imagining, creating, chocolate, and coffee. Amounts and tools for each vary on any given day, but the magic is in the making. Her perfect creative storm is fired by music, travel, nature, and the ever-expanding dimensions of the mind.
I thought this book was going to be a hot-and-heavy steamer about, uh, three “bears.” In reality, it’s a slow burn romance between three younger men—two who have been best friends for years and a third man they meet. Three Bears is a surfing location in Australia, and surfing played a nice role in the development of the relationships.
This is an interesting menage story with three points of view: Dan, Luke, and Josh. Dan tells a lot of it and the story is mainly centered on him. Josh has had a long-time crush on Dan, and he’s also confused that Dan has developed such a close connection with Luke. Is Dan questioning or gay? Josh has been hurt by questioning guys before and he’s not willing to take that risk with Dan. Plus, even if Dan is gay, it’s not guaranteed that he’ll want to date Josh. So, Josh plays it very cool, hoping not to reveal his own desires and ruin their friendship. Meanwhile, Luke—as an outsider—is able to confirm that Dan is not only attracted to men, he’s got if bad for Josh.
The steam factor isn’t super high, but I liked how tender and honest it felt. Dan has lots of questions, concerns, and issues with his new awareness of his sexuality. He’s handled with care and love—with happy endings for all.
3.5 stars Short sweet read. It’s all about three guys with their friendship and love. Dan is confused about his sexuality… to figure out all his feelings he goes to his best friend Josh… even though his feelings for Josh are the reason why he is confused. On his way to Josh he meets Luke… Luke will teach Dan how to surf. Dan is more confused because now he is attracted to two guys.
He doesn’t know those same guys have strong feelings for Dan.
I found it an amusing read, not strong developed but that didn’t bother me. It was a sexy entertaining read, it had a lot of tension… it was funny, light and fresh. All three had nice friendly caring personalities. A threesome can be tricky in a story, the dynamic can be awkward but in this short one it was convincing and they fit perfect.

A solid 4 stars. I quite liked the 3 main characters and the setting of Austraila. I enjoyed the dynamics between bisexual Dan, his BF Josh and the new friend barista Luke. The scenes of them surfing were fun. Nothing spectaculat jumped out at me, this was just a solid MM/ MMM novella with several very good sex scenes, and a sweet HEA.
As a proud Australian, I am always on the lookout for stories with an Australian twist, and so Three Bears by A. Nybo caught my eye as it’s set in Western Australia. Dan is conflicted. His best friend Josh has been the only man to cause a sexual attraction, but the friendship is too important to risk on an “experiment”. In order to try to figure out his feelings, Dan has come to stay with Josh, but he’s struggling with being so close to the man who is challenging his sexuality. During this period of inner conflict, Dan meets Luke – a barista with a sparkle in his eye and a desire to teach surfing to the intriguing visitor. Dan accepts the invitation to learn to hang ten and the opportunity to make a new friend, but things get interesting when suddenly Josh isn’t the only one to trigger a sexual reaction in Dan…
This angsty story has vivid personalities and a wonderfully described backdrop of the Australian outdoors.
The three men become friendly and sparks fly in all directions as it’s not only Dan who finds Luke attractive… Luke has a charm about him that makes him very easy to like and both Luke and Josh are open about their sexuality – which leaves Dan struggling to figure out where he stands, both within himself and with the two men. This angsty story has vivid personalities and a wonderfully described backdrop of the Australian outdoors. The high-heat factor is certainly a plus, with a couple of super-sexy scenes full of tension and groan-worthy action. I will be putting this story on my re-read list as it is so engaging that I finished the entire book in one sitting! In fact it’s so good I was pleasantly surprised to find this is Ms. Nybo’s first book. I will be anxiously awaiting for more where this came from. Three Bears by A. Nybo is highly recommended for anyone looking for a quick and steamy read involving three super-sexy men! You won’t be disappointed with this 5 heart read.
This is a quick and at times amusing read, but I didn't really feel very invested in this throuple's road to bliss.
It just didn't click for me. The author takes the time to set the stage, so to speak, introducing the three MC's to the reader and each other, but as far as the actual relationship between the three men is concerned, everything feels very rushed to me.
Once they're on the same page, they all jump into the physical side of things very quickly, especially considering Dan is still in the closet for nearly half the book. This bothered me, I'm more of a slow-burn kind of girl. I'm also not a fan of fade-outs, so that ruined the more sensual scenes for me. A missed opportunity to explore the connection between the three men some more and raise the emotional stakes.
The connection between the MC's feels lacking in intensity for me and I just don't see where or how they actually fell in love with each other. Josh and Dan have a shared history and years of friendship between them to build on, but Luke is a recent addition and they don't really know him all that well.
In an mmm romance good communication and a solid emotional connection between all the MC's is crucial, and I just didn't feel like that was the case here.
Sometimes you need a little help to see what's right in front of you.
As someone who lives very much in my head I was very intrigued by the premise of this story. Dan is the epitome of over thinking, and Josh is a little too close to give him the push he really needs. Luke is a balancing force between the two men, and he's the catalyst for closing the gap between them.
This book right here really was a decent read. This is a book about one man that realizes something about himself and finally ready to admit it. Another man who has a secret to keep. And finally the last man is that catalyst to it all being blown wide open. Now the question is, can it be put back together again?
Dan has known for a while that he feltsomething towards his best friend Josh. The only issue is Dan has never had the courage to act in it and besides everyone thinks hat he is straight. So Dan cannot take the the chance of ruining things between him and his best friend. Another reason to not say anything is because, other then Josh, Dan has not been attracted to another man. Or at least that was the case until he met Luke.
When Dan goes and stays with Josh for three months it becomes Josh’s personal hell. The reason I say this is because Josh is in love with his straight best friend and there is absolutely nothing he can do about it. Except maybe find someone to pass the time with u til Dan is gone again and Josh can once again bury those feeling.
When Dan takes up a virtual stranger on surfing lessons that he met while getting coffee, he thinks this is a good opportunity to get out of his own head. But the problem is, When Luke touches him, innocently, Dan feels the same spark that he has only felt with Josh. So now Dan has not one but two guys he is harboring attraction to and has no clue how to deal with it.
To make matters worse when Dan and Josh meet, sparks fly between them as well and Josh and Dan both being openly gay do not have to hide their attraction to the other, so they hook up. Problem being Dan knows they do and Josh and Luke both realize that Dan is curious, as well as attracted to both men. But with Josh and Lukes hookup, it may have destroyed everything for everyone involved. Or has it?
This book has quite a bit of back and forth on Dan’s part. Which I am honestly glad for because if this was really happening in actual life then I think the reactions Dan has towards his sexuality is more realistic. That makes a read better in my opinion because you can actually see it happening. A. Nybo really did a great job o. This book and made it quite the interesting read.
Was given this galley copy for free for an open and honest review
Dan is staying with his best friend, Josh for a few months. He recently went through a breakup with his girlfriend and is taking the time to do some serious soul searching about himself and his feelings. He's had feelings for Josh for years, but is afraid to act on them or even admit them. Josh is the only man that Dan has ever been attracted to, and he's worried that what he's feeling is a fluke. He doesn't want to ruin their friendship.
Josh knows that something is eating at Dan, but also knows well enough to not push. While there, Dan meets Luke. Luke is an easy going guy and very likable. He offers to teach Dan to surf. Dan finds himself attracted to Luke and is really confused by this development. Once Luke and Josh meet, things get more complicated than any of them expected.
I like the three men in this book. They clearly needed all three of them to make things work. Dan tends to get caught up in his mind and takes a long time to work things out. Luke noticed Dan's attraction to Josh, but is confused since Dan seems to ignore any of Luke's pickup attempts. Josh is dealing with his own unrequited feelings for Dan. He's convinced that Dan is straight and therefore off-limits. Luke is the buffer that Dan and Josh needed to make the jump from friends to lovers. While I wasn't thrilled with the subterfuge that Josh and Luke go to in order to see where Dan is at and get him moving in their direction, I could see why they did it. I was a bit surprised by the speed at which Dan moved physically with both Luke and Josh once he made his mind up. I was happy to see them all come clean and finally discuss their feelings as well.
If you like friends to lovers and M/M/M books, this novella should work for you.

This was a fun and enjoyable read. This author did a great job building up each of the three characters and putting me right in their heads. This is the first book I’ve read from this author, and I love the whole opposites attract. We are our own worst enemy, and this is proven here. As well as the fear of coming out as gay, lusting for your best friend and new surfer guy and the fear of losing the relationships. What a combination for a stressful guy but these two guys pull him out of his shell very, very slowly.
Dan has been best friends with Josh since they were younger. Josh is openly gay, but Dan just ended an engagement with a woman and has come to stay with Josh. Josh has been in love with Dan for years, but Dan has no clue. Dan thinks he’s gay and wants Josh but he’s to chicken to tell him. He doesn’t want to lose him as his best friend. They’re both struggling with their feelings towards the other but damn if either will do anything about it.
Dan meets Luke, the hot surfer, when getting coffee one day. Luke is his barista, and the moment Luke touched his skin, tingles went through his body. This confuses Dan even further, but he agrees to surfing lessons with Luke. Dan introduces Josh and Luke, and they hook up. As Dan watches this, his poor brain can’t handle everything. Josh and Luke come up with a plan to bring Dan out and enjoy each other as the three bears.
Now, I admit, there were times I wanted to reach out to Dan and strangle him or hug him. I wanted him to find happiness and quit worrying so much, but it just isn’t in his DNA. Will Josh and Luke be able to pry Dan away from his brain? Will Josh and Luke keep hiding their relationship if things don’t go their way? Will Dan be able to use his wood other than for himself? All very good questions and I had to read the rest of the book to get my answers. Enjoy this fun read and three-way love story.
Three Bears is a surf spot with 3 different grades of waves, a Papa, a Mama and a Baby, so don’t let the title full you into thinking its about three burly, hairy guys. This is a story about three men coming together in a beautiful story about self-discovery and self-acceptance.
Dan meets Luke at a coffee shop and strikes up a conversation which leads to Luke offering to teach Dan how to surf. Dan is in town visiting his best friend Josh. Dan has always felt an attraction towards Josh and wants to spend this time to try and sort out his feelings. After hearing Dan talk about Luke, Josh eventually goes to the coffee shop to meet him too. This leads up to all three going to Three Bears to surf. All three guys feel an attraction towards each other, but no one voices this. Luke becomes aware of Dan’s attraction towards Josh and Josh sees Dan checking out Luke. Luke and Josh eventually start a relationship and try to figure out how to include Dan. When all three finally come together the chemistry is off the charts!!
My only real issue with this book was the authors writing style. I have never read anything by A. Nybo before. I found that some scenes tended to end too abruptly. I do enjoy MMM as long as it is done right. This book was borderline for me, with Josh and Luke plotting ways to get Dan to join them but in the end they both had real strong feelings for him and they felt incomplete without him. Three Bears is apart of Dreamspinner Press’s World of Love series but it is a standalone novella.
In a story that proves how sometimes two just isn’t enough, it’s the third part of the equation that is needed to make things work, three young Australian men figure out that the attraction they all feel toward one other could grow into a lot more – if they let it. There are complications, and not just because a triad is not as easy to figure out as a two-way relationship. There is a friendship at stake, they generate confusion as if it were about to go out of style, misunderstandings get in the way, and several gorgeous scenes at the beach when they surf had me sighing with envy. But what keeps this story going is the emotions, and there are a ton of them going around!
Coming of awareness coupled with learning to surf set in Western Australia, the three characters develop nicely as the author lightly sets the scene. With Dan's overanalyzing his exploring his sexuality, and Luke and Josh dragging him along, there are chuckles galore on a delightful read.
As I am a gatherer of books, I collect books and ebooks from a variety of sources: Goodreads wins, Bookhub, BookFunnel, emails from authors and publishers, and others. I do lose track of their sources. But, as a reader, I feel I should give an honest, unencumbered review for all I read.
A pleasant surprise. Usually the threesome relationships tend to fall into sexfest or melodrama category which this book has avoided to my relief. It was sweet, realistic and convincing to me. Sex was there but was not a focal point, so it did not overshadow the romantic part of getting there. It kind of too short to have a truly convincing HEA but it's very close to perfect.
Believable heat and heart. A catalytic reaction ensues when two long-time friends, suffering from years of covert mutual attraction, develop a friendship with an attractive third guy. An entertaining read.
Although I appreciated how Josh and Luke were super respectful of Dan and waited for him to make the "move", I wasn't entirely sold on this polyamorous story. Maybe it needed more built up.
When I read the synopsis for Three Bears I thought it sounded so cute and truthfully, I didn’t think I was going to like it as much as I did, but I really loved Dan, Josh, and Luke. They really complemented each other with the different personalities and reactions to the whole situation.
Dan being scared of how he feels and is kinda burying his head in the sand in order to ignore it for as long as he can. He wants to be brave and admit what he feels but the fear of rejection is everything that holds him back. Which I can totally understand, I’m the same way fear can be a paralyzing thing no matter how small or large the situation is.
Josh is willing to share what he feels more than Dan is but is still unable to make the first move and potentially ruining things with his best friend, and Luke, he is so down to earth and goes with the flow like the waves he loves to ride. He is willing to go after what he wants but is willing to let others decide at their own pace if what he wants is something they want as well.
I seem to have a thing for books set down under this month, this being my third one, but is always a welcome thing with me. I love when surfing is included in the setting because when you think of Australia you think dangerous animals and big waves and surfboards.
I do wish it had been longer but it was all around a great first read from A. Nybo and I cannot wait to pick up others as well.

Nothing like a threesome of gorgeous men playing at the beach!
Dan is visiting his best friend Josh for an extended stay while he tries to finally figure out his head and his heart. He had recently broke it off with is girlfriend “who rightly accused me of being emotionally unavailable” as he secretly realized that he might have “feelings and desires” for Josh. While trying to deal with and understand his feelings, he meets Luke, the barista and surf instructor, at the local coffee shop. When Dan starts having uncontrollable feeling for both men he is even more confused. Then Josh and Luke hook-up and he is even more confused because he realizes that he is jealous. When Josh and Luke hatch a plan to make Dan finally come out of his head it can go well or sideways in a big hurry. But can Dan finally get out of his head and open his eyes and heart to what is standing right before him?
I think I liked Luke and Josh more from the start. Dan was all angsty and his inner battles to try and figure out what he wanted and needed was driving me a bit crazy. On stories that are this short I find myself becoming a bit frustrated with the constant inner battles and just want the author to get the men together so they can find if there is a relationship to be had and give enough time so that I get my HEA. At least, with this story, the author did give me a nice little epilogue so I could know more if it was going to all work out.
The plus side to this story is it is set on Western Australian coastline, there are three hot men that desire each other and there is surfing. Although I could definitely done with less head space with Dan, I found myself hoping that the scenarios that Luke and Josh were trying to put into play would work out. I wanted this to be a working triad. I would have rated it higher if we would have got to the relationship part faster and seen how it was developing.
