Sarah Carter was your average teenager. She went to school, did her homework, and was an honor student. Zeke suffers from memory loss and Sarah Carter plagues his nightmare ridden dreams, and he doesn't understand why. He is in the hospital with severe amnesia due to a brain injury that no one will speak of. His doctor and parents decide letting him read Sarah's journals will aid his amnesia recovery and speed it up. This is a messed up sad story that I made the mistake of reading when I was already in a 'down' mood. This is not the book to read when your mental health isn't 100 tiptop. Or maybe it is. Maybe it's best to feed that sadness? Or maybe not. Who am I to say? I can say this, that being in a not so happy mode made this book more intense. That is not my way of telling depressed people to read this book,, because yes, it's very sad. And it touches on mental health.
A teen wakes up in a hospital with no memory. He regains his memory by reading Sarah's journal.
Each time I flipped a page, I wondered why he was in the hospital and what had happened. When I found out why, well, it made me even sadder. So that's a good thing that I was emotionally attached to the characters, right?
Some parts did seem to drag on just a tad bit longer than they should've, but this one was still very satisfying

I am a survivor...From age 10 to age 14, I was taunted, called names and made fun of where I lived and how I dressed. I didn't live in nice houses like these kids. I moved there 3 months into 5th grade. I tried to tell my mom but she just said move to different bus seat. The taunting happended on the bus and at local church. I never told teachers or my mom after the 20 times I told her. Flash forward to 2020....I reconnected with middle school friends and high school friends, no kids from the group that taunted me. I have PTSD and Depression from trauma after high school. Once in while, I remember an incident and wish I could confront those people now. I always felt very alone. Please..Please..read this book and know you're not alone.

Kasey Thompson hits on the too real subject of bullying. Sarah was bullied from the time she hit middle school and never had true friends, until she met Zeke. Zeke fell in love with Sarah and tried his best to keep her from committing suicide. He's in the hospital trying to piece everything together to find out what happened to him, Sarah and just where his friend Damien fits into all this craziness.
I personally think that Surviving Sarah should be ready by all students. This will show them how real bullying is and all of effects. A superb job by Kasey Thompson!!

You want to know how you know if a book affected you personally and emotionally? Writing the review.

After I finished this book, I had no words. I was just "WOW!"

The way the author wrote this book and having it surrounding suicide, bullying, mental awareness shows the true talent of the author. I could relate to the story line from the 1st page until the last. The poetry in the journals was my favorite part. The poetry made it seem real.

Well done Kasey! I cant wait to read more.

Emotional read

Although a very touchy subject, it's one that needs to be heard. I know some can relate to this story, I hope others learn from it.
