The Blackwood Pack saga continues… This is part of an on-going series and reading the previous titles is advised. Readers of the past books will enjoy meeting old friends once more as the pack does what it does best ̶ caring for each other.
Slate, one of the last Dire Wolves, has carved out a life which suits him fine—plenty of traveling to exotic locations and an abundance of one night stands to handle his needs. While he’s happy for his brother, who has found his Fated Mate, Slate isn’t interested in finding his—at least not for a long time. That is, until his body betrays him. Seeking his mother’s help—who is an Oracle—Slate pays a visit to the Blackwood Pack where he finds the Fates have once again, messed with his life.
Dakota, the chef for the Blackwood Pack, fell in love with cooking as a young child and ultimately the kitchen became a place of refuge for him. Suffering with a ‘curse’ through much of his childhood, he relied heavily on his mother’s help to deal with it. After the massacre of his mother and siblings by their greedy uncle, Dakota barely survives, but finally forges a life for himself, content to stay home and take care of the people he loves.
A long-hidden secret, rejection of a mate, acceptance of rare gifts, and a brutal kidnapping are just some of the obstacles Dakota and Slate must battle together to save their relationship. As the pack rallies around them, both must learn to trust the other before they can find the happiness that the Fates have ordained for them…
A few years ago, I wrote my first book, Dire Warning. Readers loved it and I was on my way to chronicle the Blackwood Pack, seven brothers who are gay wolf shifters in search of their fated mates—stories about love at first sight with twists and turns, angst and humor, romance and adventure and, of course, happy endings. Since then, the pack has expanded, allowing more stories to be told and different paranormals to be included. The series has become, as one reader described it…an “Epic Saga.” Now, twelve books later, Lord Manetu has just been published. I love the M/M paranormal genre because it gives my imagination a lot of territory in which to roam. My mind can really run wild and come up with some amazing stuff when it doesn’t have to stay inside the box. My story ideas come to me as if they were being channeled by my characters, all of whom I love (except for a few villains). They are eager to recount their lives, loves and adventures, and are not reluctant to let it all out when it comes to revealing steamy details. My writing style is free-wheeling and uninhibited and my readers tell me they love it that way; that it makes them feel like they’re right in on the action and a member of the Blackwood Pack. I live in the Northeast and love the beautiful change of seasons, my husband, and our quirky calico cat, though not necessarily in that order. I read a lot (good for the mind) and love gardening (good for the soul). And I’m always happy to hear from my readers and can be reached through Facebook, my private Facebook Group, Twitter, Instagram, or my website.
I absolutely loved Slate and Dakota's story. All the feels were felt. The Blackwood pack's journey continues but I don't want to post any spoilers, but I can't wait to see what happens next. I have one minor critique.. I really wish the author would stop the giggling. At least 3 characters did this throughout the book. Chuckling, laughed delightedly, or even just laugh. Giggling reminds me of a 4 year old. Again, I love this book and series and can't wait to read the next book. I highly recommend.
So many players! Zane is next on the chopping block of mate finding. Well that's for the next hook.
So much to digest! For a perfect read, on a rainy day. Talk about needing a bookcover. So glad I got brown paper bags.
Reading the first book in this series...was because of a bet. Continuing to read...got to see how everything pans out.
In the last book..."enter the dragons." Don't ask me why I get excited over dragon shifters. I just do! But Slate isn't his mate. Should have know with his foodie leanings. It was Dakota all along. The powers bestowed onto them. Had my heart racing. You would think being bonded was the closest a shifter could get. Oh access to your mates soul. Naw! The fates went farther than that. I am here for it.
How do you come up with these scenarios. Just when I had your ticket. You change the formula. So cool!. Welp I'll be back next week with book 6.
I am seriously loving this series. I'm not surprised this book got the Best Seller banner on Amazon.
I love how each book blends into the next but isn’t a cliff-hanger because the MC’s get their happy endings, it just makes this series a great one.
What I enjoy most is the different interpretations the brothers have of their life before the massacre, they all had different things going on with them that the others weren’t fully aware of. Each brother adds another piece to the puzzle.
I’d been trying to guess who Slate’s mate would be since Dire Warning, but Dakota wasn’t the one I thought it would be. I love to be proven wrong because if things go the way I think they’re going to go then I get bored, I haven’t been let down by this series, I never know what’s going to happen next lol. I thought I knew who the mate would be for the next brother, because of something Kieran said, I thought maybe the author was giving the readers a clue, but nope, I was wrong again!
I’d like to applaud the editor, aka the authors husband. That man must be seriously openminded, but I think it’s great that he supports his wife like that.
Mary Rundle is excellent at writing a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. With all its twists and turns that always ends with a happy ending. Can’t wait for the next brother to find his forever love.
I love Dakota!!! I'm so happy we got his story. Zane has been busy and so bad the Fates and Gods. This has become one of my all time favorite series and I can't wait for more. We need more justice and why their pack was given such extraordinary gifts.
I love this series. Each book just keeps getting better. Slate and Dakota made a perfect couple, well all the couples are perfect for each other as they are mates. I still have a problem with the way they talk to each other like they are a bunch of frat boys. With all they have been through, you would think that they would act a little more like the adults they are. The kidnapping had more a little worried, and then I though but why, they all get their HEA. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I adore this series!!! Each book is better than the one before and they are all awesome books!! Hopefully you are no where near done with this series. So many characters have yet to meet their mates, pups haven't been born yet!! And then there is the dreaded Uncle. I CAN'T WAIT FOR ALL THE REST OF THE BOOKS!! And maybe you'll write a series on all the pups, second generation. I can only hope.
Thank you for another saga of the Blackwood Pack. Love and romance can be found in abundance in all of the books written by Mary Rundle. I rate this book with five stars because I really could not put it down. I love a good romance novel with bits of mystery along with a dose of intrigue. Looking forward to the next installment.
Absolutely love Blackwood Pack series. Superb characters with all guys. Loving couples doing what they need to help each other's. Three more brothers to find mates and two bears and a Dragon. Oh such possibilities!
Thank you so much for writing that Mary. It was so wonderful and beyond my expectations. It had mates, falling in love, evil, and good guys prevailing. I can't wait for the next one. And between Lisa and you and Phil, I will be happy going to the poor house!
Awesome as always. I love, love, love this series. Well written with well developed characters. I am going to read this book several more times waiting for the next one. I can't wait for book 6.
I love the continuing build of this series. Each is emotional and heartfelt as we are taken through the gifts fate is bestowing. My only criticism is the sheer length of the book. It’s long, like really long.
I LOVE the storyline of this whole series and can't wait to see where it goes.
My only complaint is the constant use of the words babe, bro, no problemo, etc and having Alpha's giggling. The alphas in this series sometimes lack the alpha feel that I'm used to.
Stronger Two-gether!💖👨🏽🤝👨🏼💖 Shadow Voice Blackwood Pack Series Book #5 (audiobook) MMy Thoughts Confessions and Review
Things to know before you pick this up: - This is a saga, not a standalone series. - This series is told from multiple points of view, even though each book has two MCs it focuses on. - Each story is rife with action/ danger sequences (these are not fluffy cuddly supes all the time) and there may be triggers for some such as child abuse/ neglect, kidnapping, and trafficking. - This is also a paranormal fantasy shifter gay romance with mpreg, and lots of steam. So, if that is not your thing, this may not be the series for you. - The audiobook is uhh-maa-zing!!!
MMy Confession: I remember reading the epilogue in “Ice Soul,” Book #4, and being so excited that sweet yet broken Dakota was finally going to get his chance in Book #5 “Shadow Voice.” When I was given the ARC I could not wait to get started. I had no idea just how very much I would come to love and treasure Dakota as his story unfolded.
I found myself wanting to melt into the story and become one of the characters so I could bear some of Dakota’s “curse,” giving him a much-needed reprieve. Thankfully, The Fates always know what is best and sent a mate strong and patient enough to show Dakota how brave and strong he was too.
Slate believed he would never have a mate, like his older brother, and he was content in that fact, or complacent, (you can decide for yourself). That is until the day he laid eyes on the gorgeous pack chef and his wolf howled and his soul cried, “Mate!” The claiming of said mate was neither fluffy, pretty, or easy. Dakota was afraid of the curse, and Slate was upset by the rejection by the one who should have been his. If claiming what the heart and soul wanted was easy, life would be boring. Right?
I loved this story so much, I read it twice. That’s right! I read the book two times because of all the action going on. There is so much happening in this epic tale that it is a miracle I have fingernails left. I am not sure how this is all going to pan out in the end, but goddess am I enjoying the ride.
The Story:5.00🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 The Narration: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Overall: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I received a complimentary audio copy of this book to read and review from Other Worlds Ink. 🎆📚🎆
This had been one of my favorite series to follow. I was especially happy that all of the very many secrets that have been piling up between the Blackwood Pack members were finally starting to be revealed. It had been a point of contention for me that so many of the brothers felt that they couldn't trust one another.
Slate and Dakota were a great couple, though I thought that their relationship developed a bit too fast considering how each felt about mating before it happened to him. I can't wait to see what happens next with the pack, and their gifts.
This was an awesome addition to the Blackwood Pack series. I really enjoy how each book builds on the ones that came before, it really fleshes out the connected storylines. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
So this series is super cute. The characters are fun and likeable. There's conflict and interesting revelations in each book. So generally have enjoyed the series. :)
---- SPOILER ALERT ----- YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED ----- I have to admit, I'm a bit annoyed at the inconsistency. At times, fated mates with telepathy are TEXTING each other to come to their office/bedroom/kitchen/etc when they could just let them know... you know, telepathically.
The young dragon, Fionn, has Mystica create an 'ATM portal' to his horde. With a handprint reader, password, etc. Let's him go to any address he programs the address into. This is an incredibly overcomplicated construct, totally unnecessary. And what's worse -- I mean, you have magic at your disposal and you create, what, an ATM? Why not just make it so it only summons to him because his life force is the password. Why complicate it with technology concepts? OK that portal kills anyone unauthorized, but being able to summon an ATM that you can then program to take you anywhere in the world is a bit overkill. And it ends up being very Deus Ex Machina in the end.
What's worse is that Mystica portals across the Atlantic at a drop of a hat to set up this magical ATM even though Fionn isn't really in that much danger. But when Slate is literally in such danger Cody has a vision about his impeding death...they have to charter a jet? Mystica can't portal them over then? But she could when Fionn wasn't actually in immediate danger? WTF? I, up until now, generally assumed Mystica could only portal herself (limiting the Deus Ex Machina ability), but then she started portaling Fionn around. Disappointing.
So enjoy the series, but the internal inconsistencies are piling up and getting to be a bit much. Thinking I may have to say thank you and move on from this series, sadly.

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow- Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile' or ‚Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the at he kids' series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or 'Liberty' from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey’s books) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times a year (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, maybe 2-3 times a year. It’s like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time- reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok). It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
I am so hooked on this series in audio format. I’ve never read the books with my eyes, but I’ve listened to all of the ones in audio format and I love what Nick J. Russo has done with them. He does a particularly great job with Shadow Voice. There are many different characters and he gives each one a distinct voice. He also does a great job with accents; I really love his Scottish accent.
Because the blurb is so detailed, I really recommend you read it. I will tell you that parts of this story brough me to tears. There are some fairly gruesome scenes but they are necessary to the story. I wonder how in the world Mary Rundle manages to come up with such intricate, yet very different stories in this long running series.
If you enjoy a large cast of characters and a variety of different shifters, I really think you would enjoy reading or listening to The Blackwood Pack series. I’m looking forward to listening to more of the books. If you can’t wait for them all to come out in audio format, books 1-10 are available to read now in Kindle Unlimited.
A copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
2.5 These books could be so much more with the help of a good editor. Like heavily editing to remove all the nonsense. We don’t need the same story reiterated over and over to each brother...we ALREADY KNOW from the first time you told us. It makes me think that the author just wants to stretch the book further for KU page count. Kieran is made to be the stereotypical gay twink...who acts like he’s fifteen. We don’t need every little stupid juvenile thought he has, especially in the middle of a crisis. The Blackwood pack also act like teenagers quite a bit. They don’t talk or act like adults a lot of the time. It detracts from the story. Although, sometimes I think these books are written by a tenth grader. There are also inconsistencies, lots of POV switches, and same voice, too much sex within a chapter. Telling instead of showing. Oh, and using the word tits to describe a mans pecs...is not a thing. It’s just more moronic silliness and isn’t at all sexy. Meh, don’t think I’ll continue. I’ve noticed the number of reviews on Goodreads have gone down since the first book...so I’m thinking it’s not just me.
This author has created a world that is very intriguing and with many twists and turns. We get Dakota and Slate's story and it was just as sweet and sexy as the previous books in this series. There is also a good amount of mystery that kept me wanting to keep reading.
I loved seeing all of the kids as the puppy pack. It melted my heart with how sweet it was! Daniel was pretty much my favorite secondary character with all his protectiveness. I also like how intertwined and connected all of the characters are with each other. It is nice to visit the MCs from previous books and see how they are doing.
Just like the previous books, we get many perspectives in this book. I like this because there are really no details missing from the story, we get all sides so it does not leave much to be misunderstood. Though, because we do get so many POVs there were a few times that it was like reading the same scene over and over because we are getting similar reactions from all of the characters.
Now I am ready for Zane's story!!
*** Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure, a review wasn't a requirement. ***
So #5 was a non-stop roller coaster of action and sex. The emotional outbursts are still present but do not feel so extreme (either they have toned down or I have adapted). I am enjoying the incredible variety of issues this group runs into, but find that the solutions are kind of --- I am not sure what? Simple? Things do get right to the edge of desperation and past but then wham! solved. I find it really helps if you can mentally 'patch over' the holes and unanswered questions (like were the boy's parents fated mates? and - What is their uncle up to now? On hold for this novel). Well-developed if immature characters (I say immature because the emotional swings remind me of teenagers during hormonal rushes) with twisty stories which are held back only by the writing style that continues to annoy me - so that might be an 'only me' issue.
This is the fifth book in The (Blackwood Pack Series)
How can describe these book DRAMA AND MORE DRAMA I mean sure I like these brother's and their mate's are alright too some of the Mate's I like better than other's . Like Ki ,and David I do like Fi too but his mate is Jackson's cousin not brother but the rest I can take them or leave them and yeah Theo and Norman are good supporting cast . But what I don't get is I thought that these brother's had already been through the ringer but it seems that there's always more heartbreak in store for them to me sometimes it seem way to much . It seem like every time they get a break something else happens and someone else's is on the brink of death of dying so much for the Fates with them who needs enemies .
I really wanted to like this one but it felt too repetitive.
Oracle dangles the idea of a new fated couple over everyone's heads but refuses to be forthcoming about major details. Guy meets fated mate. Guy runs away from fated mate. Fated mate finds him and convinces him to give them a chance. Guy unloads trauma on fated mate. Fated mates mate. Some catastrophe happens amidst their honeymoon phase. Happy ending with them finding out they're expecting.
See?
I love the series but this book wasn't as interesting as the others. Also, I love queer representation, but you're telling me all 13 brothers happen to be gay??
