Heartbreaker #3

Crossing Double

Rate this book
Brent Keiser, a certified genius, and forensic accountant works for the FBI mostly because of their awesome retirement plan. Growing up homeless with a ditzy mother can make a guy be a little obsessive in the saving for the future department. But just once, he'd like to get out in the field, maybe actually fire a gun or chase after a bad guy like the other agents. Although, solving crimes with his calculator is statistically much safer, and he'd live to enjoy that house on the beach he saves for each payday.

Sara Chapman used to be a card-carrying member of the Hollywood rich kid pack, but after serving community service, she said goodbye to her spoiled friends. Seeing the plight of the homeless up close and personal gave her new direction. But that doesn’t deter the annoying paparazzi. Her parents were the famous ones, not her. Sara’s only recent claim to fame was for having the most embarrassing public break up in the history of the entire world. Unfortunately, they don’t give Oscars for those, so she is trying to keep her head down and to stay as far away from single men as possible.

But then Sara becomes unknowingly tangled up in Brent’s money laundering case against her father. When it becomes hard to tell the good guys from the bad, she turns to Brent for help. While on the run for their lives, the built, nerdy accountant with magnificent abs, transforms into her personal superhero. Opposites in almost every way, will Brent see her as his Kryptonite or his Lois Lane?

It was fun being back with the Botelli women, and if this was the last Heartbreaker book, Baumann gave this clan a nice little send off.

I was curious about Dani's younger sister. She was a little wild child, who made a few appearances earlier in the series, but I knew there was more to her than we had seen, and I was right. Sara was struggling to break free of the fame she earned just by being the offspring of two Hollywood stars. She had lived the shallow, party-girl life, and now she wanted, and was working toward, having more.

Brent was an undercover FBI agent sent to uncover all the major players in a money laundering operation. Being an FBI desk-jockey was not his dream job, but it made good use of his talent with numbers and provided the financial stability, which eluded him during his childhood.

Though he didn't think he should, he accompanied Sara to her father's wedding, and that was where the plot thickened.

As always, Baumann wove a big suspense element into this romance. I liked how it forced these two on the run, because that afforded them a lot of bonding time. Running from the law, donning disguises, and trying to stay alive are definite relationship accelerants. I loved seeing Sara and Brent grow closer as they sought safety and seeing Brent opening up about his past, but I also liked that Baumann managed to do all this without letting the story get too weighty. She did a great job balancing the story elements and produced a story which was light and fun.

The romance between Brent and Sara worked for so many reasons, but mostly, because they were both running from something. They were missing something that they found in each other, and though Brent's backstory was a bit more heartbreaking, they both shared some abandonment issues, and had to deal with loving a parent, who did not necessarily return their love.

It was a treat having all three generations of Botelli women together in this story. In fact, Baumann gifted us fans of the series with having all the major players from each book present at the end. I loved the little catch up, and was overjoyed with the ending she gave to them all.

Once again, Baumann delivered a great contemporary romance, that was filled with humor, suspense, fun, and warmth.

This is a sweet contemporary romance with just a dash of special powers/gifts and danger (although not enough to classify this as paranormal romance). It was a sweet and easy read. The characters were likable and not hard to connect to. The story flowed smoothly and it was interesting enough so you keep turning tha pages. So why only 3 stars? Nothing really stood out in a good (or a bad way). It was a nice story to relax and read before going to bed but I'm pretty sure I'll forget all about it in a day or two. So, a great book to read when you're in mood for something light and easy but not a book that will go on your favorite shelf and you'll be thinking of for days or weeks to come.

Sara gets dumped very publicly just before a big fundraiser for the homeless, turning the attention away from a worthy cause, and onto her.

When the funds threaten to fall short of their much needed goals, Sara finds a creative solution that puts more money in the till, and a bit of 'up yours' to her ex fiance and her now ex best gal pal.

Poor thing. After so much publicity for a break-up, she finds herself tangled in the middle of some kind of messy scheme related to money laundering and her father.

So is she still a spoiled brat, reaping ill gotten gains and other fruits of her notoriety?

Or is she basically a young woman who has grown out of the somewhat spoiled ways of her youth into a caring young woman whose heart and life are now on the line?

Enjoy the fun as FBI agent and forensic account Brent helps both of them sort this mess out - and try to to alive.

Love can be dangerous, messy and sometimes fun.

Hope this unusual duo gets to enjoy more of that fun!

This book had no f-bombs and no on-page sex. If those things aren't your jam, there's nothing to worry about here because this book doesn't need them to be entertaining, the story is enough. Although it is part of a larger series, you do not have to have read those to enjoy this one.

I make no bones about the fact that I find “woo woo” stuff in my contemporary romance less than awesome – it really isn't my thing. That said, I have really, REALLY enjoyed this entire series and the “woo woo powers” of the Botelli women.

Ms. Baumann has a real skill for writing a book that has a lot of subtle humor and a lot of heart, and this story is no different. Crossing Double was so engaging from start to finish that I hated to put it down to do real life things – I just wanted to read it from cover to cover.

Sara was a bit of a mess from the get-go, but that just made her incredibly likable and really relatable right off the bat. Her ability to not let the bad things in life kick her butt made me root really hard for her – especially because her father was such a tool (that's not a spoiler, he's a tool from the start). Brent was a tougher nut to crack, but I liked him and found myself aching for him to just be honest with Sara as they got to know each other more and more. I loved how protective he was of Sara, even when he wasn't sure how involved with shady dealings she was, and how he fell for her despite his determination not to. They were absolutely perfect for each other, whether they wanted to be or not.

I would highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a little bit of whodunit mixed with a lot of humor and a really sweet love story.

A fun story that has a by the book FBI agent Brent Keiser, who works as a forensic accountant. He has finally been sent out of the office to work in the field. He has slowly put the pieces together about where the money has been going but now he must put all of the people together. Sara Chapman is the daughter of the man that Brent is investigating, but don’t think she is not someone that he trusts. He trusts no one. Even after she is dumped by her fiancé on national TV he still thinks she might have something to do with the money. He goes with her to her father’s wedding and after overhearing that some people want to kill him and her the two of them go on the run. He is still being his untrusting self and at times pompous self with her even though she has proved herself over and over. The twist and turns and the way that they get out of town are really good. You get to see that she is still feeling lost in her choice of men when he chooses the FBI over her and now they both are alone. Can he work through his past to get back to her and if he does will she let him? A good story with very good characters, I really liked her grandmother. Suspenseful love story

I won this book from Goodreads. This is a story about two people, Sara and Brent, who seemed to be so mismatched for each other from the beginning. Brent is working undercover with the FBI looking into Sara's father's life for criminal dealings. Sara comes from rich and famous parents who just wan5s to be left alone so she can help those less fortunate. The book had suspense right away when the two of them overhear a conversation at her dad's wedding about having to do away with both of them. They go on the run right away because they don't know who they can trust. Brent is basing their safety on his training and belief in the system. Sara is basing their safety on the prophetic dreams of her mom, sister, and grandmother. They fall for each other while on the run. However, because Brent still insists on doing the right thing, Sara feels betrayed and has her heart broken. Brent sets out to prove to her that he is the right guy for her and that he doesn't need the security he thought he did in order for them to have a happy life together.

This five-star book has it all. Heartbreak, betrayal, intrigue, mystery, romance, and humor, all wrapped in a well-written book.
Author Tamra Baumann writes a compelling book that you won't be able to put down. The story centers around Sara Chapman (daughter of two famous actors, Holden Chapman and Annalisa Botelli), and Holden's accountant, Brent Jackson who is actually an undercover FBI agent trying to prove Holden is laundering money. The two distrust each other at first but are soon thrust into a fight for their lives.
There are a lot of twists and turns in the plot, including the attraction between Sara and Brent, that keeps you guessing until the end. You'll love this book.
Although Crossing Double is the third in the Heartbreaker series you don't have to read the first two to enjoy this stand-alone book.

Thank you to NetGallery, the publisher and author, Tamra Baumann for the opportunity to read and review " Crossing Double." Tamra Baumann is a new author to me, I enjoyed her writing and will look forward to reading more books by her.
I found "Crossing Double" to be a light, enjoyable read. There is a little bit of everything in the book. From humor to mystery to suspense to romance.
The main characters are Sara and Brent....and Mittens, the cat. The evolution of Sara and Brent's relationship was very sweet. The story line kept me intrigued and wanting to keep reading to find out what was going to happen.
"Crossing Double" is part of a series but I feel you do not need to read the other books to enjoy this one.
HIghly recommended.

Exciting

Sara is the daughter of a movie star who sees the future in her dreams. Her daughter Denni, Sara's half sister also dreams of objects that might pertain to future events in Sara's life.
Brent is a forensic accountant working undercover for the FBI. He is investigating Sara & her father who has been hiding money in Sara's trust fund.
When Sara & Brent overhear the police commissioner telling someone that he wants Sara & Brent killed then a race for their life begins.
This book is full of action, the characters learn to trust each other, & eventually fall out in love.

This is a fun and easy read and can be read as a standalone novel. It kept my attention, and I ended up reading it in one sitting. Mittens was funny. I liked how Dani only shared pieces of her dreams with Sara (this kept me guessing when and where the pieces would show up). There were a couple things that I felt weren't wrapped up at the end, but it could be because they will be part of another book in the series.

I received a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This fun romantic read offers readers a nice blend of cuteness, drama, emotional turmoil, suspense, sweetness and humor. I enjoyed the chemistry and connection between Brent and Sara and I felt they worked on so many levels that they fit beautifully as a couple. In short this is a very entertaining and perfectly enjoyable sweet, emotional romance. This is my completely voluntary and totally truthful review.

Not at all what I expected, loved it. Baumann is new to me and it's the third in a series, thought for sure I'd be confused. This one stands alone, and was delightfully exciting and captivating. Also a plus, no hard swearing and the sex is discreet but yet hot. Looking forward to reading the others. Received my copy through Netgalley.

This is so much more than a romance. An exciting, humorous tale with lots of heart. Fun on the run! I didn't mind the woo woo as it was presented with humor. I usually skip over any intimate details. I will read more by this author as I enjoy her way with words. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley.

Cops and Robbers and Psychics
This is a fun and entertaining novel. I can easily see this made into a motion picture. The romance develops out of an undercover FBI investigation involving movie stars. The plot is wonderful with many levels to the storyline. The characters are all believable and multi-faceted. I received this book for free and this is my honest review.

An FBI agent with something to prove meets a socialite looking to be taken seriously. And a dangerous money laundering scheme that will either bring them together or get them killed. This is a fun but suspenseful and steamy romance that I totally enjoyed cover to cover

An enjoyable read that brings back some old faces (if you've read the other books!). If you haven't read the others, you can still read this story. Romance, mystery, and laughs, all parts of a great story, in my opinion.

Brent and Sara were the perfect opposites attract couple! I had a lot of fun reading this book. Just a touch of suspense. They both had facades they had to let go of in order to be able to pursue a relationship. I love the secondary characters! This family is great to spend time with.

Good read

This was a great read until the end. Lots of drama and excitement building to a big finish with the bad guy, only instead of the big finish, all we got was a one paragraph summary of the showdown 😢
