The Working Girls #2

The Scandals of Life

Rate this book
Rule number one: don’t sleep with the clients...

Escorting was supposed to be a short-term job to pay the bills. It wasn’t meant to lead to heartache. For Stefanie Wiley, love was never in the cards—until she met James Moore.

Being an escort was taboo but falling for James was downright scandalous.

He blew through her life like a tornado, leaving a path of destruction in his wake—a path she isn’t sure she can recover from.

Second chances aren’t something Stefanie believes in, but when truths are unveiled and lies are exposed, she has to decide whether to guard her heart or take a leap of faith.

I refuse to give this book any stars at all. First of, heroine is an escort but she doesn't sleep/have sex with anyone which was a plus as "escort" Heroes or heroines are not my thing. However, that was the only good thing about it.

When Hero first meets heroine, he tells her he is single but the truth is he is married to his bitch of a wife (they were married for 14 years!). It's an abusive relationship, but nevertheless, they were married! His wife and brother had an affair & created a daughter, Amelia. He & heroine begin to fall in love & she finds out about his wife & leaves him. Then he & his wife divorce, he & heroine get back together, heroine is pregnant with twins but looses 1 of them and Hero continues to lie over & over again - and he doesn't comprehend why his lying is disrespectful & hurtful to the heroine!

"James, look at how we started. You lied to me. You told me you were single. You broke me, James. I swore I wouldn't be lied to again. I wouldn't let you in again. You hurt me so much, my friends didn't want me to give you another chance; you didn't deserve one. But I went against them, I went with my heart instead of my head."

"I don’t want anyone to know that I hired you.”
“Oh, you’re ashamed of me.”
“No, not of you, I’m ashamed of myself. I was married and everyone will know that. They will know that I hired you and think I cheated on Val.” Umm.... you DID cheat idiot!

All around, this was a huge mess of a plot with unlikable characters. So no, I do not recommend!

4.5 Stars- Book 2 in the Working Girls Series is an awesome read. Stefanie is a wonderful character that has experience some heartache in her life. She demonstrates the same resiliency that Jess did in Book one. Both of these books are stand-alone’s but you are missing out if you don’t read book 1. James is our flawed hero that this author seems to excel at. I will say, I actually felt sorry for him. Yes he made some dumb choices but he didn’t deserve the messed up cray-cray which was affecting his life. I am sure you will hate the villain as much as I did (eek). I have to admit I didn’t always understand him and sometimes Stefanie’s response to things but they still kept my intrigue high. I love the full cast of characters which had me guessing, who is next?! Another great read from this author with a lot of European flavor. Happy Reading!

Wow, the twist at the beginning of this book I never seen coming. This book was an emotional roller-coaster I had no interest of getting off of. There was times I found myself sitting there trying to get my feelings in to check. This book draws you in and doesn't let you go, you have to keep turning the pages cause you need to know what is gonna happen next. Stefanie is an escort she only goes on dates never sleeps with them Until James and when she finds out his big secret she leaves him and doesn't look back. Stefanie finds out that she is stronger then she ever thought. When Stefanie and James finally has a long talk and somethings come to light about him and his ex. Will they be able to survive everything thrown at them? Will it be to much and they walk away? This book is a must read! I recommend this book to anyone and everyone

I’m not going to lie to you. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about a book where the heroine is an escort. That’s not exactly a favorite profession of mine. But Stefanie made it work. Her character is flawed, yet so freaking strong. She meets James when he comes to her as a client. And her little “never sleep with a client” rule becomes a bit fuzzy. This isn’t a Pretty Woman story. The Scandals of Life is so much more than meets the eye. There are crazy ex’s and messed up pasts that threaten their Stefanie and James’s budding relationship, and at times made me so frustrated for them. But their journey to happily ever after is worth the heart palpitations and “holy crap” moments.

The laundry is off the charts. Seriously. The physical and emotional chemistry between these two main characters is absolutely sizzling. You will not be disappointed. In fact, make sure you have your significant other or favorite BOB readily available. ;)

All in all, K L Humphreys delivers a stellar second installment to her Working Girls series. Book 1 does not necessarily need to be read beforehand, but you really should read it because it’s just as amazing as Stefanie ‘s story. I have a feeling this series is going to be one of my favorites of 2018.

A thoroughly enjoyable and engaging read that will capture you and not release you until the end. I love the storyline of this series and of this book. This particular story line will give you a look at an issue that many times we only read about from one side. This is the other side. We get to read more of the characters that we got to know in the first book as well. I hate saying too much about the story here because I don't want to give too much away. If I had read some of the reviews prior to the book, it would have ruined the surprise for me. I won't do that to you.

The characters are deliciously written and will have your emotions going from one extreme to the other as you read their story. What I love about the female characters is that they may be "working girls" but they do what they have to do to survive and they are strong women who do have a moral code that they live by. Would they choose to do what they do willingly, no, but when faced with their own situations, they do what they have to do to survive.

This is a great series and this book is a wonderful addition to the series! I highly recommend.

I absolutely could NOT put this book down. It is book 2 in the working girls series. I would recommend reading them in order so you know who some of the characters are but it is definitely a series to fall in love with. It was the most amazing book ever. I love James and how hes so good to stef. I think stef and James story is my favorite so far. It is an emotional roller coaster and these characters are so east to fall in love with. K.L. Humphreys is such a good author. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Rule number one: Don't sleep with the clients. Escorting was supposed to be a short-term job to pay the bills. It wasn't meant to lead to heartache. For Stefanie Wiley, love was never in the cards until she met James Moore. Being an escort was taboo but fall for James was downright scandalous. This book had me from the first sentence. I'm pretty sure that I didn't put it down until I was finished either. These characters are some your going to fall in love with right off the bat and your going to be so invested in them. This is the story of a woman doing what she has to do to survive. Then you have James who has some messed up things that he didn't deserve happening in his life. He too is carrying around a huge secret that will have a huge affect on Stefanie. This is the story of two strong people doing what they have to do to survive this crazy world and the things thrown out of them. I wish I had read book one. They are standalone's but I just felt like maybe there was some things I had missed by not reading that book. However I didn't let it take away from this one.

Steph is an escort with particular rules. She never ever sleeps with a client. That is until she meets James and the more time she spends with him the more she falls for him. So what happens when their relationship becomes more?
I'm not completely sure about my feelings on this book, I liked Steph at times, but at the same time, she confused me and i found her to be over dramatic. James had a complicated life, with a vicious ex, who really made life difficult, not only for Steph and James but also for James's family. And this is where my feelings are conflicted, i just didn't get how they let this woman treat them as they did, even when together as a group, she run rings around them and because of these situations i found it difficult to like James and his family. As a man in his 30's i would have expected him to at least grow a set at some point and found him to be pretty immature. I did love how he treated and adored Steph though and even with my mixed feelings i did enjoy the read. I did like the storyand it brought out some sensitive subjects, but at times i felt there was so much going on outside of their relationship that i didn't feel we got to know Steph or James as well as we could have. Still a fairly enjoyable read!

Oops! KL did it again! She messed with my heart...

This is KL's 2nd installment of The Working Girls series. It follows the story of Stefanie and James and their emotional roller coaster of a romance. I love how it coincides with the timeline of the first book, and KL makes it easy to remember what was going on simultaneously in Jess's world. You can't help but fall in love and root for Stef; you'll cry when she cries. This is definitely worth reading!

This was a good follow up to book 1. I was glad Stef got a book. I like getting the different stories of this group of friends. This one did have a few instances where the plot had me scratching my head but overall this was a good read. I look forward to more in this series. I want to know more about Pen and Natalie.

This is the second book in this awesome series. Stephanie is a strong character, who does what she has to in order to survive. James is the man to change her outlook on life. This is a well written story, which had complex characters and plot, as well as being emotional and with unexpected twists, which all had be totally intrigued and hooked throughout. I look forward to reading more from this talented author, and highly recommend for all readers.

This was such a good read. Even though it was highly emotional.

James did not have a good start with romance because of what happened during his first marriage. It was a blessing see that it is not always the mans fault.

Steph has also not had the easiest or smoothest start to life. Because of this she starts he job as an escort.

James and Steph have many obstacles to overcome if they want a relationship to work or even last.

Loved it!

This series keeps getting better. I love stories where you could see the events actually happening and this book delivers. Steph and James started out as a job but what they feel is so much more. Through each other's struggles and love this couple comes together. They grow together. I can't wait to see what comes next!

Wow what a great read, and highly emotional. What James has been thru in his first marriage is absolutely sad and upsetting. But also kinda nice to see it's not always the man that's a jerk in the marriage, there are plenty of women to blame for marital issues. Steph has been thru her fair share of sad past as well, the death of her mom the deadbeat of a father and her life as an escort. These two totally belong together, they just need to overcome a few obstacles first.

This review is hard for me to write because I loved the book & writing but I did not like James. I really wanted to but I don’t like weak men & I really felt he needed to grow a pair. This book is overall a great read & I’m looking forward to more from this author.

Crazy Life of an Escort

Steph and James started out as job, but ended in happily ever after land. The story had many gritty elements how life is, but told with understanding and love. Life is a windy road with many pitfalls, but ultimately it is how we handle it that makes the difference.

3.5* Stef is an escort, doing what she needs to do in order to survive. She's a strong woman with great friends who will help when needed. When she needs them they're there for her and she needs them the most now.

When falling in love she doesn't realize that there is more to James than what she thought. When she finds out everything that he hasn't told her, will she want to still be with him? When she unloads her secrets on him what will he do?

I enjoyed seeing the dynamics of their relationship and seeing which way this book could go. I liked James' family and seeing how they were around Stef and him.

The Scandals of Life is the second book in the Working Girls Series. I recommend reading this series in order. The stories are happening simultaneously in parts so you can see it from both prospective.

Remember this series is about "WORKING WOMEN" so it isn't about women living off a man or gold diggers but strong, independent, and feisty women who deal with life one day at a time. They do what it takes to survive while only breaking down in private. I love how real the stories are and look forward to seeing where the author takes the stories from here.

I loved book two just as much if not more than book one.

Stef is an escort, but she won't sleep with her clients until James. The twist at the beginning of this book was unexpected. The storyline in this book isn't one that I've seen attempted yet in the book world (my personal opinion) but I think it was executed brilliantly here.

I was hooked from page one and sat up reading through the night and finished it in one go. I'm really hoping that Owen gets his own book, he's one character that i would love to read his story.

Five stars!

I have been following this series in order, but I'm not sure I'll be continuing! I do really like the plot. But the writing gets mundane, and I find myself putting the book down and almost losing interest!

There is just something about this authors writing style I'm struggling with. I feel like very rarely are we given just the right amount of information. It's either not enough or too much! So I'm either like... And then? Or I'm like... Can we just move on?

But like with book one, I am glad I read it!

James was stand-up MMC. Even after everything with his ex. I am still so confused why he stayed as long as he did with her. But 🤷‍♀️

I really didn't care too too much for Jess. She kind of lacked depth. But her and James together were very sweet, and I was happy to see them get their happy ending!

I won't give up on this authors work, especially since this was some of her early work. I will be stopping the series for now. But honestly, I might come back and pick up where I left off eventually. 🤷‍♀️

I did LOVE how much we got to see of James and her together vs. just seeing them get together and reading an epilogue.

Book 2 focuses on Stefanie. She is an escort and falls in love with a client. But things aren't always as simple as they seem. This could be read as a stand alone, but it would be helpful to read book 1 because Jess is in this book. Natalie was interesting character, I'd like to read more about her story.

loved it!!
Another great story. Loved this one as much as the Secrets of Life. The story gives a perspective of an individual in a taboo risky profession and KL does a great job of making it a love story. You'll laugh, cry and be happy with the outcome. The characters are lovable and the story line is easy to follow.

Wow this is the 2nd book in the series and also the 2nd ive read from this author and I can honestly say she did not disappoint. I love the Stef, just as I did Jess. These women are fierce and go-getters. Yes they hurt, they break-down (behind close doors, and to themselves) but they get back up and fight for what they believe in. they fight for a better future. I'm really curious of where this series is going now. I'm officially hooked. If you haven't read this book yet, it's about you do. Great Job K.L., great job.

I couldn’t wait for book two to find out more from this series. Stef and James story was so intense i couldn’t put it down. The heartache of what Stef goes through is immense but so true so many women go though this. James is always trying to be there for Stef for his brother and trying to save his ex. The connection to the other girls and trying to help them all shows how close the all are . I so cant wait for more of the girls stories. A must read series you wont want to put down a must read.
