Several generations of women with an extraordinary gift. A tumultuous period in America's history that honored the brave and the foolhardy. And an intricate tale of everlasting love that spans the fragile bridge between life and death.

Independence, Missouri, 1853: Mary and Norton Beecroft share a love like no other. They have endured their share of heartache and tragedy but a new life now awaits them in the promised land of California. Along with their young daughter Lucy and their twin sons, Mary and Norton plan to leave Independence, Missouri with a wagon train bound for a state so wondrous it has been referred to as the golden future of the rapidly growing country of America.

However, the Beecroft family are a little different from most. With a history on his wife's side stretching back many generations to the gypsies of Europe and an undoubted (but little understood) gift shared by the women in the family since time immemorial, Norton has his work cut out trying to understand his womenfolk.

Join the folks of the wagon train as this little community makes it slow way across the great plains to a new future. Share their joys and triumphs, heartbreaks and hopes, and lose yourself in a more simple and adventurous world than the one we know today.

The Knowing - the first full-size novel in the series, preceded by Mary Ellen (a novelette) and followed by Cutter's Mill. A series to captivate you, engage you, and have you questioning all that you thought you knew.

The Knowing is a great story about cross country travel in early America. The ups and downs of such an arduous journey kept me glued to the story. A great love story. It also made me aware of the role that the knowing plays in many peoples lives - not necessarily making things easier.

Of course I have to give my book 5 stars! I laughed, cried, paced the floor, got out of bed in the middle of night, said no to untold social events, and nursed this baby from infanthood to adulthood. I'm in love with the characters, I adore the plot lines, and all in all just think it's a great book! I do hope you will enjoy reading it.

Great Read!!

Really enjoyed the lives of the settlers & what they endured to get to California. Your love ones are never really gone, they are in your heart forever.

I quite enjoyed this book. It has a slow, ambling pace, much like the pace of the wagon train on the California Trail, but I didn't find it boring at all. I did think some of the characters were a little bit like caricatures, and some of the dialogue a little corny. There were also issues with the dialogue feeling like it waffled between period dialogue and modern conversation. Some of the writing was a little bit wordy and the story wasn't super atmospheric, but for an indie published story, it really was pretty good.

There was a scene that came abruptly and actually made me cry in a cafe, so kudos! I don't cry that often. At least I didn't used to. Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age.

I'm actually interested in reading the sequel, so I may do that soon!

Nothing Changes But The Changes
The Knowing Saga continues with the cross-country trip by wagon train. The trip is not made much easier by Knowing, sometimes that makes it more difficult. This book is long enough that the author can add the detail to make the journey come alive for the reader. The reader becomes so totally invested in the story that they must continue with the next book, although this book ends with a mere 'lead in' to the next story in the Saga! I received this book for free and this is my honest review.

I have been waiting for this book's release all year and when I finally got my hands on it, I read it in two days. Love, Love, Love. It was the page turner I was hoping for, I adored the characters, and it also had an unexpected effect on me as I found myself questioning some of my own beliefs. About to read the next book in the series over the coming week...

Young adults will enjoy

I received this book free from one of the book sites. I do not remember which one! This is my honest and voluntary review.

Nice story. More in line with younger teens and up. Had me crying and laughing.
