As a child, TJ thrived in the Arizona desert. By the age of five she was riding horses through cotton fields and by eleven bought her first motorcycle, a Honda 125cc dirt bike. Growing up with teachers as parents meant traveling during the summer. Hiking, backpacking, fly fishing, climbing pyramids, surviving earthquakes, and flying in hot air balloons were just some of her adventures. An avid day dreamer, she would lose herself in mystical worlds and far off places limited only by her imagination. After choosing an academic scholarship over an athletic basketball scholarship, she graduated law school and accepted a position as a Deputy County Attorney. However, prosecuting felony crimes was not as exciting as she hoped, so she traded in her briefcase and the courtroom for a Glock and patrol car. She worked the road as a police officer for five years and now tells officers what to do as a policy writer for a police department. TJ writes from her heart by incorporating her dreams and experiences to create strong, passionate characters who must overcome personal flaws to survive against the challenges of traversing through magical realms, undiscovered planets, and apocalyptic catastrophes.

Sleeping Dragon Stirs is book two in the series, Outside the Veil, by T.J. Shaw. This series has me absolutely spellbound. T.J.’s writing is so beautiful and I am completely engrossed in this world she has created, in Jaxon and Amari’s story.
As Jaxon, Amari and the rest of their group travel towards Jaxon’s home, Jaxon and Amari become closer. Amari still has no memory and doesn’t know what animal lives within her. The Trinity is fast approaching, which is the time that all first time shifters make their first shift. But, with no connection to her animal, no pathways created in her mind to allow her to connect with others to help her with the shift, she is sure to either go rogue or die. Her inner beast is becoming stronger and she is becoming more confused.
“You will never get lost in the shadows, est draco, because your flame will only burn brighter in the darkness.”
Jaxon has accepted that Amari is his mate, no matter what her animal is. His cadre, or the three closest men to him that have sworn to protect him, all accept Amari as a sister and vow to protect her as well. I really loved that we got to know these three, Crispin, Kip and Slade, better in this book. I have already fallen in love with all three of them.
“I can’t lose her.”
“No one will harm her, because we take care of our own.”
Once they have all reached Jaxon’s estate, Jaxon looks forward to making more progress in helping Amari prepare for the Trinity. But something dark is at work in their midst. Something that can threaten any chance at a future. Something that seems to want Amari. At the same time, Amari’s family, whom she has no memory of, is searching for her.
I think what touched me most about this book is the way Jaxon is with Amari. He’s an alpha dragon shifter. He’s a ruler. But with his mate, he’s tender and loving. One particular evening on their journey when he made a place to rest for her especially touched me. I think it was my favorite moment of the book. But beware if you are another male and dare to show any interest in her, because Jaxon is most definitely possessive of his new mate. And he won’t hesitate to show you just how much!
So much is going on and I have so many questions. I couldn’t read this fast enough but now am left to wait for the final book, Alpha Dragon Awakes, to come out so I can get the conclusion to Jaxon and Amari’s story. This is truly a fantastic series and I can’t wait for you to read it!

Holy heck! This series just keeps getting better!
While Amari is still in the dark as to her designation, what her animal is, her confidence builds in the face of the dangerous dragons that surround her. She stands up for herself in the face of Jaxon’s formidable nature and yet quakes at the desire he arouses in her. Living in confusion and fear of what will happen upon transition, an event at Jaxon’s homestead causes her to question her very sanity.
Jaxon is more determined than ever to save Amari as her transition looms before them. His soul focus is on preventing her from going rogue and what steps he will have to take to ensure that doesn’t happen. With the assistance of his cadre he begins with her mental communications, or lack thereof. As bit by bit is slowly revealed of her true nature he knows that she is his mate no matter what animal she harbors within.
Amari’s character continues to grow and I loved that even as she was at such a huge disadvantage, she stood up for what she wanted. When even more of her innate nature is revealed I cheered her on despite the edge of sadness and despair that were present within the storyline. My heart hurt for her as well for her lost memories and her uncertainties. She’s a pretty perfect heroine in my opinion. Vulnerable and yet filled with strength when needed.
As Jaxon remains true to his protective, possessive and sometimes jealous tendencies, he is so very sweet as he recognizes the gentle touch or prod that Amari needs. He could easily bulldoze his way in to find what he wants, but he has her best interest at heart and refuses to do the unthinkable simply to quench his own selfishness. I also loved the connection he had with his cadre and the complete loyalty they shared together.
This book is so beautifully written. With the richness of this author’s words to showcase the world these characters live in, as well as intense development between the hero and heroine as well as Jaxon’s cadre, I was completely swept up in this story. There was no way I was going to put this book aside for any reason. It ends on a cliffhanger with so much left unanswered and new drama on the horizon. Although I’ll be so freaking happy to get that final installment, I’m going to actually be sad for this story to end.
I can’t recommend this book enough to anyone who enjoys shifters/dragons, possessive heroes and strongly developed heroines.

Part two is every bit as enchanting as part one and trust me, this is NOT just filler until the final book! This is a powerful stepping stone to Amari’s awakening!

Did she do this horrific crime and if so, what is Jaxon willing to sacrifice to keep Amari safe? Her beast stirs and is begging for release. Will Jaxon’s love save her from the brink of madness or has he lost her to her beast forever?
Sleeping Dragon Stirs is part two in the Outside the Veil series and my first reaction after reading it is, WOW! It picks up exactly where part one left off and we delve into Jaxon and his cadre. We get some much-needed background on Amari’s father and how it relates to Jaxon and his father. But more than that, we get to fall in love as Amari explores her feelings for Jaxon. The shared dream scenes were intoxicating, rich in detail while showing the softer side of Jaxon.
There’s a lot going on in this book and with that being said, I read it in two sittings. I couldn’t put it down. I had to keep reading, to find what happened next. Plenty of action and romance, this is a fast-moving paranormal romance even non-romance readers would enjoy.
If you’re looking for an intense shifter romance with dramatic scenes where the stakes couldn’t be higher, pick up Sleeping Dragons Stirs today. I can’t wait to read the next part in this alluring paranormal romance series!

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I do plan to collect this set when it is in one set.
This is the second book in a serial trilogy, and this means that there are 3 parts that go together to tell one story, and they end in cliffhangers until the 3rd book. Some people may not like serials, and if you are one of them wait and read all 3 books together once they publish. This is for adults only and does have sensitive topics including abduction and selling people.
This is a unique shifter world where not all shifters can handle the transformation and those who don’t go rogue and hurt people. In this world, shifters are divided into carnivores and herbivores where carnivores tend to protect those under their care. Amari still doesn’t remember her past. Jaxon wants Amari as his mate, but his past is haunting him after what his dad endured. His cadre helps him with everything from protection to advice. Amari’s family now knows she is alive. There is a murder mystery, and the Protectorate rep has arrived in the area to prepare for Trinity. So much going on, I can’t wait to see how everything works on in the end. Amari is protective and fierce, love her strong character. Jaxon and his cadre make a great family and nest, and I think Amari fits in perfectly!
I highly recommend to any shifter fans who love new unique worlds! If serials aren’t your thing, wait until the whole set publishes because you don’t want to miss this set and story!

We have rejoined the Dragonlord and his cadre along with Amari. She’s still unsure of what exactly she is but everyone knows she’s not a sheep. This ends in a cliff hanger as we wait for the third part. However the journey to Jacobs home is quite adventurous and revealing as to what’s going down. All in all very good.

The secrecy continues. Tamara continues to befuddle by keeping secrets and denying help. It's annoying, especially when jaxon has proven his devotion. We all know she's a dragon so let's get to it. Don't know why this had to be stretched into three short books.
