This was not one of Cathy Williams's better books. The blurb had grasped my attention and the general story line had a lot of potential. However, as much as I hate to say this ( since the author was born in my tiny C'bbean twin island republic, so I feel some loyalty to support her work ), the execution of the story line was a bit bland. I know it's hard to find the correct formula all the time but this couple just did not seem to have much chemistry. I applaud the author for the research into the C'bbean Tourist industry and into the field of Advertising but I found a little too much emphasis was placed on those issues and this detracted from the romantic story line. I should note that maybe another reader might find these things interesting.
The heroine was a nice character but she seemed a bit too stiff and stoic for the first 60% of the novel. I understand why she needed to be portrayed that way, since she was the product of parents who were "swingers" that lived a nomadic global type of existence. Ellie, the heroine, craved simplicity, security and wanted a committed relationship with one man ( instead of the "swinging" of sexual partners pattern she'd seen from her parents' marriage ). She's a very educated Advertising executive who owns one third of a small advertising agency. She's not a sociable individual and she prefers to dress in very conservative attire. At the start of the novel, she goes to meet the H Niccolo to present an advertising pitch for his new deluxe singles resort in an unnamed Caribbean island.
Niccolo is a "Dotcom" billionaire, but he doesn't look like that Facebook billionaire guy ( obviously ). Facebook guy is not that cute; on the other hand, Snapchat billionaire nerd guy, who married the Australian supermodel, has a cute boyish face, and a nice smile. That's just one of my rambling and useless asides. I tend to do that now and then. Where was I ? Ah yes, Niccolo: the H is a manwhore who has been hurt by a gold digger in his youth so he currently prefers to engage in only sexual "Friends With Benefits" relationships with women who are willing. But Niccolo is not ( alas ! ) a graduate of the Professor Christian Grey College For Elite Manwhores. One of the basic lessons in Principles of Manwhore Dynamics 101 is ( according to Christian Grey ): Always get your penis polisher to sign a Vagina Rental Contract, that includes the all important non disclosure clause. Niccolo fails to do that and as a result, 2 of his former penis polishing OW sell their stories about their sexcapades with him to the tabloids. I don't know why this surprised the H, after all his type of OW live by the following motto:
"Lusiurandum in scriptis referri semper ad meretricis facta MAKE PECUNIA" ( "A whore's oath is to always make money" ).
One former "pumped and dumped" OW, a glamazon called Amy, even turns up to stalk the MC's at his resort. When Niccolo sends her right back to London, without even letting her unpack her suitcases, Amy goes straight to the tabloids and gives an interview about the MC's love affair. This puts the heroine in a bad situation because it makes her appear a bit unprofessional. Ellie doesn't want to appear as the type of woman who will have affairs with her clients so she sells out her share of the agency to the other 2 partners. That annoyed me and that's why I went on a bit of a tirade about Niccolo and the consequences of not making penis polishers sign their Vagina Rental Contracts. And if you're feeling sorry for the penis polishers like Amy, you ought to note that they're the ones who enter into such relationships where they barter sex for money and gifts. I'm merely pointing out that since that's what they do, then maybe billionaires not interested in marriage need to get things signed on paper before embarking on any kind of interaction with them.
The MC's didn't even kiss each other until after the 65% marker of the story line. Their foray into full blown sex seemed very sudden to me. They had flirted a bit before but the heroine always kept pushing him away and maintaining her professional dignity. That's why it was a bit sudden to see her proposition him right after she bought herself a new wardrobe. Ellie made that decision on her own. Niccolo didn't coerce her into having sex with him so that part was a bit different. I found Niccolo to be a bit laid back and more of a beta H. The MC's shared a few sex scenes in the last quarter of the novel before they broke things off and went their separate ways. Ellie, of course, discovers that she's fallen in love in with. She had thought she would have been able to just keep things on a purely sexual level but that obviously failed. There's a short period where they are separated for a few weeks. Niccolo misses her and wants to call her but feels that he shouldn't. Ellie is determined to take her money from her share of the Advertising agency and make a new life for herself. Niccolo is the one who comes grovelling and looking for her. He is also the one to declare his love and propose.
The lack of an epilogue was a HUGE negative point for me personally. Their relationship had taken far too long to build and I needed an epilogue to see if they had staying power.

Didn't really find either characters engaging.
Story was flat and found it hard to concentrate and found myself skimming towards the end.
Heroine lacked depth and seemed to switched on a dime for no reason( she's saying no and pushing away for about half the book and then the next sentence it's lets have sex).
Hero was off putting. Didn't find much to like.

Bland romance storytelling centered around work...I dnf'd by Chapter 4. I was not interested in the advertising campaign plot used to bring the hero and heroine together. The discussion about that, bored me.

Ellie is all about her career and stability after being brought up by hippy parents, Niccolo is a hard working playboy who works hard and plays harder but has been burned in the past . When Ellie is given the chance to pitch for an advertising campaign for Niccolo's resort sparks fly and what follows is a steep learning curve for both of them.

If you are looking for a stupid & weak heroine who is so in lust with a manhore H because he has a great face & body and she can't think with her brain at all, this one is for you. Maybe because I am so tired of this type of c...ap writing, I gave up after a few pages in. I just didn't care to finish it. Thanks to a friend who I borrowed it, I didn't spend a dime!

The vintage books of Cathy Williams (and other writers too, like Penny Jordan) are so much better than the modern ones. The difference is unbelievable. It’s as if other people are writing under their names.
Because the same goes for all the HP writers, I think the publisher has something to do with the modern HP’s being so boring. The books probably need to be politically correct. No real alpha male H’s anymore in HP’s.
It was boring. She’s thinking far too much about what a beautiful man he is. The writer got way overboard with her description of how the H’s looks.
She was boring, he was boring. He’s not an alpha male, he doesn’t pursue her. There’s no angst, he’s just a nice H.
He doesn’t want to commit, but as long as the women in his life know that beforehand, I see nothing wrong in that.
There was too much dull talking going on. No witty conversations. She was busy saying ‘no’. And then suddenly they have sex.
She’s a virgin, but the first time they have sex she immediately gives him a professional blowjob. He didn’t even have the chance/time to touch her, she takes the sexual initiative immediately. What virgin goes down on a man immediately. 🙄

Niccolo Rossi is not sure why he feels the need to have his potential advertising agent go to his resort to see it first hand. And why he decides to accompany her, and show her around is even more of an unknown. Something about Ellie Wilson seems to strike at the heart of him.
Ellie wants to win the job for her fledgling company. It would help set them up and give them future business. But there is something about Niccolo that leaves her questioning her need to keep things controlled. Because her feelings are more than just a little out of control when Niccolo is involved.

Not enough dialogue
Had to skip to the end. Too much thought life and interrupted dialogue. The last few pages summed up the story.
Writes need to learn that reads want interaction with the characters. Not someone says one sentence and then we get three pages of thought life. Frustrating.
