Her first manga story, (Goukaku kigan, Prayers for a passing grade?), was published by Hanamaru Comics in 1997; it was later reworked as the first chapter of Challengers. Most of her works have been translated into foreign languages. She was a guest at YaoiCon 2007, invited by Juné, the US publishers of her popular series Little Butterfly. When not making Boys' Love manga, she spends her time collecting Wallace & Gromit merchandise and playing Final Fantasy. Takanaga doesn’t like beer and people who are ignorant.
She comments that her biggest influence on her art and writing-style was KOUGA Yun, a famous shoujo manga artist whose works she read as a teenager.
Three stars is a little bit generous, but it's not as though I disliked this volume. It just didn't feel like it added a whole lot, and it didn't go in the directions I was hoping.
Reiichiro and Jinnai are solidly in a relationship now...sorta. They go on dates, they kiss, they have sex - when Jinnai wants to. Reiichiro never initiates anything, and that lack of active interest frustrates Jinnai, who can't stop questioning whether Reiichiro actually loves him at all.
Enter a rival love interest, a trope that's meant to either drive a wedge between them or prove that their mutual love is strong and can withstand all obstacles. It does push them into having more open communication and telling each other what they want and need out of their relationship, which is at least a step in the right direction.
Another coworker from their company's HQ, a super charming guy named Kijima, starts visiting their branch to go over the details of an important trade show. He's two years older than Jinnai and has known him for a long time, since Jinnai was just learning the business. They have a friendship that's built mostly on insults that mask their mutual respect.
Unfortunately, Kijima takes an interest in Reiichiro and starts blatantly hitting on him, often in front of Jinnai - which drives him to his breaking point multiple times.
So often during the course of this book, I thought: Reiichiro's little brother would've handled this better and more maturely than Jinnai is doing - I wish I could see more of their relationship! But sadly there isn't a single scrap of Haru or Tsukasa content. In fact, Reiichiro flatly refuses to let Jinnai anywhere near his family home, for reasons that cause some additional problems later on.
First, they have to deal with Jinnai's jealousy, and Reiichiro's obliviousness. The interesting part here was that Reiichiro truly had no idea that Kijima was hitting on him - and then immediately began taking steps to make sure he wasn't encouraging that behavior, once Jinnai pointed it out. That should've made Jinnai happy, but instead it made him worry even more...because Reiichiro is so easily swayed into going along with what other people want from him.
Wasn't that why he'd thought he might be interested in Haru? So he wouldn't lose him? And, Jinnai guiltily realizes, he's only dating Reiichiro now because he, as he says himself, forced himself on Reiichiro. Does Reiichiro even love him at all?
Sadly, this intriguing, important seed doesn't really bear root. Jinnai doesn't have to face the consequences of his actions and work on forging a stronger, healthier, more balanced relationship with Reiichiro. And Reiichiro, although he does start to display jealousy of his own once he finds out that Kijima is actually interested in Jinnai, still doesn't really demonstrate that he's fully in love with Jinnai.
I can see Jinnai's frustration, and the reason he has so little trust in Reiichiro - which hurts Reiichiro and strains their relationship more. If Jinnai stopped pushing things with them, would Reiichiro just drift away? Probably not...he did actively go after Haru. But is he in this relationship with Jinnai because he truly wants to be, or simply because he has someone who loves him, and that's nice, and he doesn't want to give it up?
There's room for so many interesting emotional explorations in this series, but none of them get pursued in any meaningful way, and I find that frustrating. I think there needs to be more from Reiichiro's point of view; he's floating through the narrative as too much of a passive player, just responding to other people's desires for him (including his family's insistence that he take arranged marriage interviews). I'd like to see Reiichiro take ownership of his life and his happiness. Right now, he's feeling kind of bland, and he's being overwhelmed by Jinnai's personality...which seems to be what Jinnai wants.
I actually don't really like the title of this spinoff as a whole, because the "You Will Drown in Love" idea is that Jinnai will fill Reiichiro with so much of himself that Reiichiro will change to suit him better.
Shouldn't he love Reiichiro for who he is? Honestly, at this point, I was kinda hoping the rival would be someone who saw Reiichiro's true, beautiful soul and swept him away from Jinnai, giving him the freedom he deserves to thrive.
Tsukasa was willing to let Haru go if that meant that Haru would be happy - because Tsukasa is mature and earnest enough to understand that's what love is: putting someone else first. Jinnai just doesn't have that capacity, it seems. And that's why this spinoff just doesn't hold up to the original couple's story.
Love it. I mean...

Recomendado.
Me encantó.
Hmm, surprisingly, the second volume is more interesting. The tension in the story feels stronger too. And Kijima-san… you’re seriously insanely handsome!
Reiichiro, Tsukasa’s emotionally withdrawn brother, puts in an appearance in this story, the sequel to “You will Fall in Love”. Being so standoffish, love for him is a more difficult proposition, making this tale of love more tense than its prequel. Veering between love and distance, propriety and immorality (getting involved with a business associate? How scandalous!), there is a more serious graphic novel than its predecessor. It has the effect of intensifying the love plot, making it all the sweeter when Reiichiro finally gives in to his emotions.
Not as good as the first volume in my opinion but still carries through with all the good points of the original. It has a new character enter the situation and then you get to see how both Jinnai and Reiichirou deal with their jealousy and a solid threat to their relationship.
