Love Me, Love Me Not by Katherine Debona is yet another psychological thriller in a year that has had some really great books released so far. With this one I really thought the story would be another that I would have loved but it just fell a bit flat to me.
The story is about two friends Jane and Elle who have had a long friendship that to Jane has been a bit lopsided. Elle is the bright and shining one that always stands out and gets what she wants in life while Jane has lived in her shadow.
One day Jane decides to take back what she thinks is hers and get out from under Elle's shadow. With a little help from Jane's horticultural obsession she comes up with what will be the perfect solution, a poison that when used just right it will give Jane everything she ever wanted.
Love Me, Love Me Not was one of those books where you are not necessarily supposed to like the characters but for me it's a thin line between suspicious dislike and not really caring dislike. I think the style of the writing in here kept pushing me more to the not really caring side unfortunately. It's one that you just know you are going to be waiting to see how far it will go and Jane's inner monologue would go on and on at times to make it feel like it was dragging me along to the shocking moments leaving me to rate this one at 2.5 stars. I'm in the minority in my opinion on this one though so if this sound like something you may enjoy I'd still suggest giving it a try yourself.

Oh my goodness that was good... I could not get enough of this book! The story was different and addictive. Such nasty people and yet I had to know what was going to happen next. That twist at the end was awesome!!

Just when you think an author can't possibly think up a new twist in the already twisted relationships of best friends....BAM! Color me pleasantly surprized! This book made me ask myself how many times throughout my life have I loved a BFF, but could feel the uneasy vibe of envy trying to claw it's way out? Could she tell? Did she know I had such feelings? One always wishes and hopes for a friend that feels like family, an extension of our better selves. But what happens when the one you love because she knows you better than you do takes said knowledge and creates a storm for which the is no shelter? Can you forgive, forget, and move on? Or do you spend the better part of your audulthood planning ways to undermine their happiness? Especially when their happiness cost you your own? If you are interested in finding out the answers to these questions and possibly having some of your own READ THIS BOOK! I would strongly recommend not reading it if you've had a recent quarrel with a bestie...

At last a book for the thinking woman!
Katherine Debona reflects the key characteristics that resonate inside us; she pools our thoughts and experiences into a melting pot which resounds deep in our unconscious challenging our own dark thoughts - if you are brave enough to admit them!
A must read for those who are open-minded and non-judgemental of those whose mental restraints differ from our own.

A dark psychological thriller with a botanical undertone. Two "friends" Jane (with silent hatred & jealousy) and Elle (needy) vie for the attention of Patrick. In an off and on relationship with both of these women, Patrick demonstrates that he is not perfect, either. Suspense triggers as Jane works her way into Patrick and Elle's life. Jane becomes a surrogate for Elle's baby. Or is it REALLY Jane's baby? Many twists and turns before the surprising conclusion!!!

I loved the story. The plot kept constantly evolving which made me want to read the book without a pause. Definitely recommend this to everyone!

A tale of sour friendships and broken love is woven into one powerful story. We follow Jane, an academic with high intelligence and her best friend Elle - a popular attractive girl - and a battle over Patrick, Jane's ex-partner. When Elle dates then marries Patrick, Jane becomes obsessed with harming her best friend since school, using her love of plants and her dark thoughts to do so.
This novel had such a punch towards the conventional relationship. I really liked Jane and her disturbingly dark trail of thought. She is clearly a psychopathic main character and she often dreams of violence and harming others around her. These descriptions are often graphic but that will never bother me. I didn't see the twist at the end coming, although part of me wanted what happened to happen for the sake of Jane. Her mental health was suffering and I would certainly put a warning out there to readers for self-harm and suicide ideation just in case.
This novel is a dark one with lots of time jumping. Sometimes I found the times jumps a little boring as they could have been described during the present scene, but they weren't a hindrance. I found the opening scene a little time jumpy and wasn't sure where it went from there. I didn't like Patrick's character and found him irritating to play off both Jane and Elle's emotions. There was zero difference in voice when the final chapter jumps to another character's POV. The voice was the same even though there is a CLEAR difference in intellectual abilities and interests from the previous narrator. This dampened it for me as it felt like the other narrator was still telling the story.
Some of the language used I found clunky and a bit overbearing on formality. For example "...and all around I fly" and "not (spoiler word) shall I be." This was a little irritating, and even though it was part of the MC it was taking away from the story itself. No one really thinks in such formal phrase as most of these examples were in her inner monologue. I don't think she actually spoke that way.
Overall, was a compelling read. Twisty with damaged and complex characters. Good character arcs and a great twist at the end which I was glad to see. The writing was slightly off the trail for my tastes but I would recommend to anyone who likes a psychopathic female MC and a dysfunctional dark love triangle romance.

Aaaargh, I absolutely loved this book - great characters, intrigue, love triangle and a little bit irreverent. Loved the dynamic between Elle and Jane and their unspoken conflict over Patrick. I shed tears and laughed out loud - in places it was reminiscent of the utterly fabulous Sweetpea.
But it all unravelled at the very end, spoiling it for me. Others may love it, but for me I found it disappointing and a little rushed and contrived.
Overall, it’s still a good read but no more than a 4* as a result

Overall, enjoyed this book, although it did slightly drag in the middle. I thought it played out the complexity of relationships well and found the different characters voices came across well. I thought it talked about issues such as obsession, loss and hatred well and left me wondering afterwards what happened to characters.

Loss can be overwhelming. "He left a hole in my world where all my love fell through." How do you continue when love moves out?
Life offers us choices. "Every moment of every day gives us a choice." How we respond is up to us.
The novel breaks the reader's heart. Self harm is a major theme. It is "a coping mechanism." There are some difficult to read scenes.
How much are we like Dr Jekyll? Or are we Mr Hyde? "Everyone has bad thoughts... it's what we do with them that matters." Which part of your conscience are you listening to?

Jane and Elle had been friends since school but, they couldn’t be more different from one another. Elle is the popular girl in school that everyone follows and Jane is the quiet, studious one. They will do everything for each other and are very close.
One night Elle drags Jane to a party, where they see Patrick for the first time. Instead of being drawn to Elle, Patrick starts talking to Jane and they start going out together. Even planning a future together. But, Elle steals Patrick away from her and they eventually marry. Jane seeks her revenge, even resorting to murdering her once best friend.
I thought this book was well written but, there was no likable characters in this story and I thought that in some parts it did drag on a bit. Especially the parts with Botanical references and I was quite disappointed with the ending. 3 stars from me.

3.5 stars. Jane and Elle are the best of friends. Well - until Elle steals the love of Jane's life. Revenge is a dish best served cold, and Jane has the patience of a saint.
A clever book, where the main protagonist is not at all nice. Jane is calculating, cold and careful, but despite all of that I really liked her. And her story takes the reader down a dark and twisting path. I also loved the snippets of plant info at the beginning of each chapter, which added to the unease within the book.

Wow, this book is both beautifully written and packed full of twists. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a thriller with that little bit extra.
Jane and Elle have been friends since school - unlikely friends because whilst Jane is a nerd, Elle is popular and beautiful. Jane is as dark and troubled as Elle is, seemingly, perfect, but they are loyal and fiercely protective of one another, until Jane falls for Patrick and he, in turn, falls for Elle.
What follows is a rollercoaster ride of emotional torment as Jane tries to exact her revenge upon Elle, all the while battling with her own psychological issues that see her torn between loving and hating her so-called best friend.
I love the way the author has explored all the nuances of female friendship and as much as I wanted to despise Jane for all that she thinks and does, part of me felt sorry for her too. Such a wonderful, interesting book and I can't wait to find out what Katherine Debona is going to come up with next!

Given how many psychological thrillers are currently out there, I wasn't expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. Completely brilliant characters, totally believable set-up (I mean, who doesn't have a friend that they sometimes hate?), which made me gasp and laugh at all the things Jane gets up to. She's completely nuts, but in such a brilliant way that I was rooting for her all the way to the (very bitter) end.

I really enjoyed reading this book. A thought-provoking, highly original story with plenty of twists and fascinating lead characters ,particularly Jane. The wonderful writing kept me engrossed through to the end.

Everyone has cruelty within them. It’s what we choose to do with it that matters.
Wow, this was a totally different read than I was expecting! It wasn’t really a thriller or mystery, more like women’s fiction with plenty of twists and turns thrown in. I loved the original premise – a woman decides to kill her best friend using her vast knowledge of plants. The book was so much more than that, though.
While a little overwritten at times, the book was absolutely stunning. I do think it could benefit from another editing round just to cut out a bit of the fluff, because all the introspective moments got a bit much for me and turned a bit repetitive. There was also one mystery that was never resolved – perhaps on purpose by the author, but I still wish we’d gotten a bit more insight with that one.
The book was well-written, well-plotted and well put together. I don’t think it should be marketed as a mystery/thriller though. I loved the character development and am definitely curious about this author’s future work. I think her writing style works quite well for me. A solid 4 star read!
Would recommend for: If you liked You by Caroline Kepnes I think you might enjoy this one as well. I would recommend it to lovers of beautiful prose, well-written twists and a friendship that can turn deadly.

A beautiful garden full of flowers, shrubs, plants and trees is a beauty to behold, but if some one knows their darker side they can be deadly. Jane and Ellie have been best friends since school. Ellie has money is beautiful and always gets what she wants on the other hand Jane is the ugly duckling, poor but very intelligent. Enter Patrick who as far as Jane is concerned is her soul mate. Until one night they have a row and one of them makes a mistake. Jane runs away to the other side of the world mourning the loss of her love and tries to move on. Then she gets a visitor which changes everything and now she has a plan to get what she wants and to hell with the consequences. This girl will do whatever she can to get what she thinks she deserves. But what happens if her plan goes wrong and has devastating consequences???? I loved this book!!!!!

Loved this book. True, it’s didn’t have the intensity of a ‘must read all of it immediately’ to the detriment of my sleep pattern but I must admit the closing chapters certainly hooked me to that point (mild apologies to husband).
The story surprised the hell out of me in the manner of the ending. I’m not one for ruining the pleasure of other with spoilers, so I won’t go down that road, but the element of unrequited love plays a significant part. Excellent ending twist. My next goal is to read the Katherine Debona’s first book. I look forward to further novels.

Ooh I do love a enthralling, twisty thriller that is a little bit bitchy and Love Me, Love Me Not definitely ticks all those boxes.
The reader is drawn straight into the story with a rather telling scene that immediately lets the reader know how things are between the two women. It’s clear from the start that Jane has a huge chip on her shoulder and wants revenge on her supposed best friend, which Elle is blissfully unaware of. Everything is obvious not ok between the two women from Elle’s point of view and the author cleverly takes the reader back and forth in the two girls relationship making them slowly aware of the reasons why. I was very intrigued as to what had gone wrong and wanted to keep reading to find out what it was. The fact that Elle seemed oblivious to Elle’s hatred was very interesting and I wanted to find out how she would discover the truth.
It was hard to really like or feel sympathy to either of the main characters. Jane is a very evil, twisted character that is very determined to hurt her friend. She has a number of little schemes on the go at once on how to bring her friend down. Elle, though the victim in Jane’s schemes, isn’t blameless as she often overlooked Elle in the past and trampled on her feelings. It was hard to feel sympathy for her when you discover the whole story.
This was quite a fast read for me that I couldn’t put down as I felt I couldn’t look away from Jane and her antics. I desperately wanted to know what would happen next and how everything would end so read far later than I should have.

Oh dear.
One of the many ironies of this book is the protagonist specifically scoffs at plebs who only read crap like Twilight. And yet, this book is arguably worse than that excremental pile of teenage horseshit.
Cringe making writing. I assume in the attempt to make the very boring Jane sound like the genius she is meant to be, there's lots of 'oft' and awfully clumsy stabs at sounding intellectual.
Stupid, stupid plot.

The 'twist' I did see coming, despite what the blurb says.
Amateur. Boring. Bad.
It's clear the author wants it to come across as a commentary on the complexity of life and grief and love and the lies we real ourselves and each other. But it's just not very good at all.
But it is short. So there's that.
One of the many ironies of this book is the protagonist specifically scoffs at plebs who only read crap like Twilight. And yet, this book is arguably worse than that excremental pile of teenage horseshit.
Cringe making writing. I assume in the attempt to make the very boring Jane sound like the genius she is meant to be, there's lots of 'oft' and awfully clumsy stabs at sounding intellectual.
Stupid, stupid plot.

This... must be the weirdest book I read. The plot twists were both ridiculous and gruesome and not in an 'ooh true crime' sort of way, but rather 'what the fuck just happened' and 'are people really this stupid' kind of way. I kept reading it and thinking to myself 'Surely, people cannot be THIS dumb and dramatic and ridiculous in their lives, right?'. So either we are doomed as a species, or this book figures some really 'special' individuals.

An unusual book, definitely unique, but a bit of a chore to read. I really struggled to force my way through this one. I just didn’t seem to feel any connection, either love or hate, for any of the characters. Which left me not really caring what happened to them. But all the same I kept reading because I was at least somewhat intrigued to find out what happened. The ending wasn’t what I expected but I felt pretty indifferent about it! Not one for recommending I’m afraid.

I wish I hadn’t wasted time reading this pretentious rubbish. It’s filled with disagreeable unbelievable characters doing ridiculous unrealistic things. All the way through we have to trawl through every single muddled, repetitive, self-indulgent thought of the main character. I think I was meant to feel sympathy for her but couldn’t summon up any feeling at all other than disgust. This book was trying to be clever but to my mind failed dismally.
