The unstable earth shakes. The waters continue to rise. Waves heave beyond their bounds and the earth wobbles like a drunken man. Babylon rises as wickedness covers the world like a blanket. Evil spirits seduce its kings and inhabitants with desires of riches and hedonistic living. Every knee must bow in honor and obedience to the International Community of United Nations and the celebrated Messiah who moves among them…but not all nations do. There are a few radical, religious, rebel nations who resist the matriculation process and refuse the biochip, but not for long! They will be crushed! In America, the saints’ hearts yearn for Zion. A company of three hundred thousand wind triumphantly out of the mountains, their terrible banners of freedom flying high. They are led by one like Moses, accompanied about by fierce armies of tribal people. Their age-old desire is to finally build the prophesied city of New Jerusalem. Are their hearts worthy? Inevitably, there are trials and hardships which purify them, giving God a sanctified people. Now no power on earth or in hell can stop them!
Continues to be a great series and making me wonder and think about the scriptures, the end of time and if I am/will be ready. What a wonderful experience that will be.
I liked this book, but the reason that I gave it a lower rating than the other books in the series is that it takes a long time in the book to get anywhere. Some of the dialogue at the beginning of the book is frankly boring and drawn out, not to mention unrealistic of what families would talk about. Every conversation has to do with the signs of the times and scripture prophecy. It's great as a reader to learn some new things, but difficult to get caught up in the story when the characters themselves seem so unrealistic. About halfway through the book, things start to pick up and get interesting. I read the second half much more quickly because exciting things were starting to happen.
I really, really enjoy this series. It's a fictionalized account of the last days in close relation to scripture. Edwards does an amazing job of creating fiction about modern-day people from science, gospel, and scripture truth and she documents everything well. My reasoning for giving it 3 stars is that the narrative really jumps around a lot as Edwards tackles several storylines at once. It wasn't cohesive and the plot seemed to move slowly. Excellent series though, I'm excited to read the next one.
Actually the story is slow and not that interesting, but the notes the author adds about everything are interesting. Although maybe she adds too many of them and that may be why the story goes so slow. She documents every statement which gives meat to her story, but also causes it to drag at times. It is however very interesting to see the last days come to life.
Great until the last chapter or so, where it suddenly felt rushed, like "oh no I'm almost out of pages so I have to finish it." Love the way the story and characters are transforming (even if my favorite keeps getting beat up!). Can't wait to see what's next!
Continues to be an intriguing story and I've enjoyed the series and the references very much. This book represents evil and truly how bad the world could become. It's one of the darker books in the series and it made me feel truly grateful for the gospel in my life.
