A unified harmony of the testimonies of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Organized by events emphasizing narrators, speakers, locations, quoted passages, dates and Joseph Smith translations.
So many harmonies of the gospel are available as we study the New Testament in 2023, this is by far the best that I have discovered. It’s just scripture, which I want, rather than commentary (which has been done so many times). The book is meticulously organized. We see the birth and events leading up to the 3 year ministry of the Savior ordered chronologically as 244 events. With an abundance of white space for annotations, the volume includes the JST and Greek translation texts and offers excellent reader pointers by way of marginal footnotes indicating who is speaking, what passages are quotations and their source, scriptural references, place names, dates, and duplicate account scripture references. Helpful material is included in the appendix including several maps, the Jewish calendar, and an hourly calendar of the last week. The rational for how this was created is unique and I would say, brilliant, making it so easy to work through as a reader. Highly recommended.
I loved how this book helped me to experience the New Testament in a fresh way. Having events in chronological order and written out like a script delivered new insights, and I love that there is plenty of white space on the pages for my notes. I also appreciated that it presented the four gospels in bite-sized stories, which makes it ideal for my before-bed scripture study.
While I am finished with my first read-through, I am continuing to use this book as part of my study of the four gospels, and I continue to learn more as I do so. I'm excited to try the other books in the series for my future gospel studies.
The book says that this is "A New Approach to Studying the New Testament." It definitely is and I loved this approach. This is the first time I have read the gospels in harmony. This book made it so easy to do. They have laid out the story of Christ into events and have formatted it in a way that makes it easy to know who is speaking, what verses are being used, when it is a quote or naration or direct saying, and additional info if needed. I would recommend this book for those who are looking for a new way to Study the gospels of the New Testament.
Overall, I thought this was a helpful format for studying the New Testament.
What I liked: I liked learning how all the events of the New Testament fit together. At some points it was helpful to know who was speaking.
What I didn't like: It wasn't so much the format of the book as much as the New Testament itself. It is just confusing sometimes and there are some parts that I don't love.
I really, really hope these authors continue with the second half of the New Testament and also other scriptures! I just love how these books are put together!
I was touched by the explaination of various methods of deciding the order or harmonizing the gospels.
What I liked most about this book is the very clear organization. - It is clear who is talking. - It is clear where the text came from. (Some additional sources in addition the four gospels.)
The pages go by quickly became each pages has only one event, which occasionally are only one verse, are often a few verses. Sometimes an event goes on for several pages. 224 events are covered.
I even found myself putting in a few cross references between events that were similar.
