An amazing self-help/motivation book. Very strong "for Dummies" and incredibly well written.

I am so impressed about how many different topics is covered when it comes to success within this book. Everything from goal setting, to relationships, to investing... I honestly think he covered pretty much every topic I could think of at least.

Another really powerful takeaway from this book are the "hands-on activities" that go along with it. There are numerous times where you are given little tasks/homework assignments to go figure out some financial aspect of your life, something goal related, so on and so forth. I really think this adds a lot of value to the book and honestly they are pretty great and shine a lot of light on things.

My ONE issue with this book is how overwhelmingly Christian this book is. I would say nearly every single chapter somehow connects to a biblical verse, throws down some sort of christ reference, or he reflects about some kind of lesson learned in church. 100% honestly, this book should have been titled "The Christian Success Habits for Dummies."

I think he could have maybe dedicated a chapter to this? That would have been effective, not compromised his beliefs, and been 100% acceptable. Thrown down a disclaimer stating this is how he feels and if you are not a believer or follow a different faith, that's fine but this is just his position. However, he just saturates pretty much every page with Christianity.

I think delivery like this will push a lot of folks away. I can filter it out and accept the way he chooses to live and think his life. My Mother in Law 100% absolutely everything she reads are books like this. She would totally love it and I have recommended to her.

Again though... not everyone feels/thinks this way. I would say he goes too far and injects too much. I say again, the title should been changed.

If you can accept this one overwhelmingly present bias in the book, then it is truly a best in class success habit/motivational book.

I am writing this review from my phone, so please disregard/understand any possible errors or auto-corrects.

Do You Have the Success Habit?

Success Habits for Dummies by Dirk Zeller can help you get on that road of success.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence therefore is not an act, but habit.” ~ Aristotle

“Whatever a person keeps pursuing with his thinking and pondering, that becomes the inclination of his awareness.” ~ Buddha

Dirk Zeller is not on the same scale as Buddha and Aristotle, but he has put together a useful guidebook on some habits that can help you become a success and smile more.

Success Habits for Dummies is a good source for some insights and practical pointers to achieve success.
Do not agree with everything but there is plenty to agree with…

Let’s start with ten personal characteristics to improve success:
1. Perseverance
2. Doing more than you are paid for
3. Lifelong learning
4. Gratitude
5. Positive attitude
6. Integrity
7. Persuasion
8. Patience
9. Concentration
10. Self-confidence
Sounds almost simple. But as we know life is not quite that simple. I don’t agree with the author when he says (Chapter 18) that Time equals Money. Sure, there is a strong correlation between time and money – after all most people work for jobs where we earn salaries. But the author points out that most of his wealth has come from real estate acquisition. That expertise and knowledge is not based on how many hours he puts in, but rather on knowledge, perseverance, and business acumen. So, while it sounds like some good advice but like many cliches – some are true some are not.
If you are doing it right Time is unequal to money – breaking those chains can set, you free. Learning how to leverage or scale yourself is a great achievement:
o Painters paint
o Writers write
o Thinkers think
o Managers manage
And what about you? If you learn to add value in a way that is not related to time not only can you create wealth, but you can also follow one of your passions and have some fun too! So no, time is not equal to money.

Zeller is bang on what when he asks: “Debt: Your foe or friend.” It sure does depend on what you use debt for! Let us look at Credit cards as an example.
o If you pay on time and in full – a credit card can be a great asset. It helps build your credit, gets you points and gives you a free loan for an average of two weeks;
o The exact same card, if you only pay the minimum amounts can be a huge liability, when that can zap your future plans and create a financial death spiral as pay last year’s indulgences for months and years to come.
o Same card, different results….it is like any powerful tool. You need to learn to use it and use it properly.
Yes, it is true that emergencies do happen and that is why you should always save some money. As the author states (page 269) “Pay the most important person first: you!” Remember, what you earn does not determine your wealth – but what you don’t spend can be the most important catalyst – that and a good plan – to a healthy financial future. It is never too early – or too late – to start good ‘success habits.’
The author also advises against not “remaining married to your first spouse.” While we would like to think that all our choices are good ones that is not always the case. So, if you are going to make it work, make it work. If not, cut bait and get the heck out of it. After 70+ years of marriage we have some experience on this topic (35+ years each.)

It is true that the break-up of a relationship causes untold loss of wealth. But sometimes it saves your health and well-being.
The author also touches on many other aspects of ‘success habits.’ I will highlight two more:
“Building customer and client relationships”
• Solving problems
• Creating value
• Under-promise and over-deliver
• Connecting in business integrity
• Establishing long-term service relationships
• Communicating frequently with value
There is no doubt that being in charge can cause great anxiety but also great liberation. Whether you are an employee, a contractor, in business or a volunteer following the above tips will open doors and generate smiles. And it will also give you a greater sense of satisfaction.

The law of reciprocity states that we pay back what we have received from others (165).
Some simple habits to follow (original author unknown):
• If you open it, close it
• If you turn it on, turn it off
• If you unlock it, lock it up
• If you can’t fix it, call in someone who can
• If you borrow it, return it
• If you value it, take care of it
• If you make a mess, clean it up
• If you move it, put it back
• If it belongs to someone else, get permission to use it
• If you don’t know how to operate it, leave it alone
• If it is none of your business, don’t ask questions

P.S. Some of you are reading this post and thinking “yeah, but…” We would advise you to read the book – so at least the synopsis and some of its recommended readings. I would also advise you to ponder this advice from the author- “Improving your success by developing your spirituality (143):
1. Learn to forgive
2. Find comfort in faith
3. Increase your feelings of belonging and security
4. Connect your faith with love
5. Use the golden rule as a spiritual base
6. Build community
7. Build relationships
8. Build friendships
9. Build unity
10. Invest in spiritual study
P.P.S. The three bolds are mine.

This is a decent book but the author is relentless with his use of quoting scripture and focusing on Christianity. It should have been titled Christian Success Habits for readers who don’t care to hear quotes from the Bible for 25% of the book. The author is a rich white guy who has money, a great life quality and never faced any real adversity. His tips are focused on marriage, traditional values and community. There is a lot of generic general advice on dating, friendships etc. I would only recommend this book for young conservative Christian men and women who would like some generic life advice. For myself this book reminded me of the importance of having a positive mindset, it was too long and annoying for me to deal with the other fluff but it was a solid book. I am detracting a star because of its religious focus. The author briefly mentions that other people may have other faiths but doesn’t include samples of practices from other religions or belief systems. When I am getting a general book I don’t expect a sermon.

I loved the book. Put together an interesting overview of all the major themes. The only thing that seemed excessive to me was the Christian approach. If I want to learn Bible lessons, I directly read the Bible. The latter I consider to be quite serious. As a result, it misinforms about pornography. I inform the author that there are different genres of pornography, and scientific studies have shown the beneficial effects on health. So if this is a guideline I think you should avoid mixing up subjective personal vision. For this reason, he lost a star, otherwise, the book would be perfect. But I do recommend reading.

What you need to know about Success Habits.
There is a singularity point in the growth of a person's skills.

Up to that point, you can only grow at a level where you do not know whether you are growing or not.
However, if one continues to work hard without giving up, the moment one reaches that singular point, one begins to grow rapidly.

In other words. It is better to imagine that the actual growth is not a curve, but a broken line.
Where the singularity point is and how much effort one needs to accumulate to reach it vary greatly from person to person, and to be frank, no one knows.

this book has given you a proper guideline on how to live successfully in different aspects. The aspects including health, financial, relationships, spiritual growth and so on. It has given me insight that the health should be put on the first priority before other aspects could be discussed. It has also given me practical guide that habit is the key of success. It looks like a handbook with some details ideas on how to define success and how to become success based on your own standard.

Hate books which attribute success habits with religion or some imaginary sky god. If authors want to add religion / spirituality or gods into their motivational books please indicate clearly as it puta off people who do not believe in your religion or imaginary sky god.
