Centering around Kitty Linklater (interesting last name, by the way; I've never heard it before), an investigative journalist who's out to prove her father's innocence, Innocent Target is a pretty good love-inspired suspense novel as far as those go. And while the romance between Kitty and Chief Deputy Ryan Lawrence wasn't all that interesting for me, as it was just a series of back and forths on whether or not he can support her in her search and whatnot, what DID work for me was the mystery element of this book. I kind of suspected where things were headed, so there was no big shock there, but there were actually one or two things that happened that I did NOT see coming, so that was interesting.

A pleasant and quick read, for sure.

Wooooooheeee! This is one of my top favourite Love Inspired Suspense novels of all time! It's mind-boggling good. A complicated case, ever-present danger, tense, tense, TENSE (did I emphasize that enough?) relationship between hero and heroine...well, it all comes together in one explosively compulsive read.

And my emotions were all in a jumble. Mostly I identified with Kitty, even though I could see how Ryan could be so...condescending? patronizing?...at times. Or at least come across that way. But, grrrr, I was so seething mad at him for not believing her! Of course, I had the benefit of knowing I was reading fiction and trusted the author enough to believe in Kitty's faith in her father, despite his rough background.

Gah, I was in knots most of the read because Kitty is so alone -- ostracized by most of the town and she just needs someone to hold her and tell her it's okay and he believes her and couldn't that someone be Ryan? Uh...nope...he's supportive and protective but he draws the line at believing a convicted child killer is innocent. Talk about an insurmountable barrier to romance! He thinks she's bullheaded, she thinks he's closed-minded -- these two spar more than they spark. :-) (but that doesn't mean there isn't any toe-curling going on here!)

"I don't expect you to believe me, but I know I'm onto something, and when I finally prove that my father was wrongfully imprisoned, I'll happily accept an apology from you, Chief Deputy Lawrence." (p 17)

Love me a fiesty heroine with sass and conviction and tenacity! And, as it turns out, so does Ryan...eventually.

Innocent Target is everything that is good and right in a romantic suspense novel x 10!!!!

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Innocent Target. This is the sixth book in the Navy SEAL Defenders Series. This is an excellent example of Elisabeth's work. This story is well written, action packed and full of faith. I know you are going to love it.

Journalist Kitty Linklater is running a private campaign to free her father. She has been warned that she must stop using the newspaper to wage her war. Her father was sent to prison for killing a young teenage girl. Kitty knows he is innocent and is determined to find the killer. The whole town has risen up against her but someone, the true killer is out to silence her.

Chief Deputy Ryan Lawrence has issues with men who molest or kill women. He is called to her property and finds her being chased by a man with a ski mask. He rescues her but the man gets away. He doesn't like how she is trying to prove her father's innocence but she is obviously in danger. He moves into an apartment on her property to keep her safe and the town is now up in arms with him. He can kiss his election for sheriff goodbye.

A dangerous journey to prove a man innocence and stay one step ahead of a desperate killer. God has a plan for these two; a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan and not for evil. Trust Him He won't let you down.

I really Elisabeth books and this one was worth the wait. Its dealing with a issue that is the hardest issue a child will ever have to deal with. Kitty is needing to prove her father's innocence and Chief Deputy Ryan isn't so sure. Right from the start Elisabeth has action happening and draws you into the story. Its got some very interesting twists in this story. That will have you asking questions. Its got on the edge of your seat suspense that will keep you wondering what's happening next. It will surprise you as to who's the bad guy and why. It has things going on that makes you wonder why things are happening. Its a well written story that will be hard to put down. I know I did. I will look forward to her next book. She has yet to disappoint me.

This was my first book by Elisabeth Rees and it won't be my last!! Fast paced and suspenseful from the first page, I was completely drawn in by the character of Kitty and her drive to clear her father from a murder she feels he was wrongfully convicted. Now the REAL killer is trying to silence her. I love the way Ryan, the Chief Deputy, wasn't convinced of her father's innocence but realized that she needed protection from someone looking to harm her or kill her. I also loved that because of situations in his own life, he wasn't willing to even meet her father at first and seemed unwilling to forgive. The pace of the plot, the relationships of the characters, and the finale of who REALLY killed the girl her father was accused of and was trying to silence Kitty was superbly done!

Innocent Target
Elizabeth Rees

Has a wrong man put in prison for a crime he hadn’t committed? Kitty Linklater is the only one who believes her father is innocent. She’s ruffled feathers with her newspaper articles. Who is attacking her? Chief Deputy Ryan Lawrence doesn’t believe he is innocent, but vows to protect her from the attacks.
Twists and turns that keep you turning the pages until the surprising ending.
Loved how strong and determined Kitty was. Ryan struggled, but still knew what he needed to do for justice.

I read this book on one day. I could not put it down. From almost the first page it was nonstop suspense and drama. I had to find out what was coming next. There were a multitude of characters that could have been guilty so I didn't have the guilty party pegged till the end. The budding romance between the 2 main characters I enjoyed as well. You can't help but like them. I would read this again. I will also look into other books written by the author.
